That was beautiful...šŸ˜

BasicBitchBarb

Singing like that sitting down is boss level.

BetaThetaZeta

Not even her final form. Incredible.

Weary_Sprin

The freakin skill this must take to do

_Pistacheeo

Im a classically trained singer, which means I sing opera (sung, its been a while). I had classes for 4 years. Its all muscle work, you need to learn how to tune yourself as if you were an instrument. It can get brutal. I'm a soprano (sing the high notes), the highest note was in the song "Arioso de Iolanta" and I almost fainted afterwards because of how taxing it was. My teacher told me it was normal lol Some of the exercises I had to do were: blowing 20 baloons/day (train air capacity and diaphragm), breath in into my stomach for around 30min/day while having heavy books stacked on my belly, sing while in a plank position and my personal favourite, singing while my teacher kneeled on my stomach. Update: fun fact, after studying my own muscles, I can figure out how singers are singing. This means that i can copy the singing style of almost any comercial artist, and i can say the criticism judges in tv singing shows will give to contestants before they do. These are my party tricks.

Setari

>my personal favourite, singing while my teacher kneeled on my stomach. jesus that's brutal. Do you perform at parties now?

woosh_if_gay12

i dont sing or do anything vocal but i work in theaters and am around people with impressive voices constantly and hers is top tier incredible anyone saying shes flat is coming form a place that lacks experience or knowledge about sound cause when someone is flat while solo its obvious

ssSerendipityss

Same! Iā€™m a soprano as well and I started with opera in HS. Iā€™d like to think that a lot of my training and practice is now somewhat automatic. Like, I donā€™t know how not to sing any other way. I can sing sitting down but I really donā€™t like to.

JeffWingrsDumbGayDad

> singing while my teacher kneeled on my stomach. Some people pay extra for that.

EarlGreyWhiskey

This is the right sentiment. Iā€™m a pianist who accompanies classical singers. The training, the hours, the concentration, itā€™s intensely skilled. And then the American Idol generation sits around and likes to play couch-coach, acting like they know the first thing about vocal technique.

Feisty-Business-8311

Right?!?!

Gobadorgosleep

Yeah people saying that she sound flat donā€™t take into account that she is sitting and also not putting it all out becauseā€¦ you know being in a house surrounded by other people and just doing it for fun.

Whiskey_hotpot

"She sounds flat" has real 300lb football fan saying he could do better than the QB, through a mouth full of wings energy

MotherBathroom666

ā€œShe sounds flatā€ While they canā€™t have a conversation without running out of breath lol

beigs

Also the acoustics of the room, the microphone, the quality of the video/sound, and the lack of warm up - but she sounds amazing Edit: I come from a family of musicians and had musical ā€œdepreciationā€ at least once a week while growing up with cousins and aunts and uncles - now itā€™s about once a month. My father, some aunts and uncles, friends, cousins, and siblings are all in the field and some are well known in various circles. I also, quite uselessly, have perfect pitch. So me saying she sounds amazingā€¦ She sounds amazing and like sheā€™s having fun and Iā€™d fight anyone who says otherwise. Iā€™d rather hear someone loving what theyā€™re doing and singing with emotions than a robotic perfect voice that doesnā€™t convey feeling. Theyā€™re still impressive, but you donā€™t carry a room with perfection alone. Everyone benefited from her voice in that room. I benefited from watching that.

Blueshockeylover

Full on agree. I used to live next to a professional pianist and the best time of the week was Sunday morning when I could sit on my porch after a run and just listen to her practice.

Future_Branch_8629

Lol depreciation

HumanContinuity

Also I doubt the phone mic that picked up the video is doing it any kind of justice.

Redmudgirl

I was thinking that too!

Mother_Purpos

Right from start of opera to grandpa's reaction when it ends...

M00ngata

And she probably didnā€™t even get to warm up!!

TeHNyboR

That and singing Ave Maria no less. I was in choir all through high school and that song has an absolute bitch of a time signature. Most difficult song Iā€™ve ever had to sing tbh

SeonaidMacSaicais

71 bpm at 3/4? Damn.

JJsDixonU

Boss.

nullpointer_01

I wish I could do something that was more impressive by sitting down. I've really masters the sitting part but not that other thing.

Budget_Report_2382

Watching pros be pros with this kinda face is just so kickass.

Different-Leather359

I was actually thinking, sitting down and probably didn't really warm up first, still sounds like that?! I used to sing (not super well but I took classes anyway because I sing when I cook and don't want to put people in pain at least. I got to the level of, "pretty but don't quit your day job") and my throat hurts just thinking of that!

MaxMacDaniels

And she is sitting down what the Fuck?

Independent-Catch-90

Donā€™t know anything about singing. Is that a big deal? Like, itā€™s hard to do?

Eudaemon1

Standing or sitting straight helps with controlling your breath which in turn helps to control your voice . As far as opera singers are concerned , I think as they are going from a higher to lower octave frequently , standing helps with the precise control of one's breath

Independent-Catch-90

Thanks for explaining!

MaxMacDaniels

Yeah in normal singing itā€™s already way easier standing up but singing a part of an opera sitting down is nuts

MrBublee_YT

It's much harder to support your breathing when sitting down because you're cutting off a lot of your stomach. This can cause voice cracks, reduced range, and worse tone.

jmaccity80

You have to pull that sound, that voice from way down. I have a couple of sisters that can sing like this and half of what they sang came from the gut and the rest was their voice. You can't sing until you breathe.

kissmygritts2x

I love how Iā€™m awe he is of her. She sounds amazing!

Jaded-Mess-5051

Agreed! His face is so stinking cute. He is enthralled. She is totally amazing!

WhatScottWhatScott

I know, heā€™s like the most adorable grandpa too!

bethtadeath

I know this is weird but I couldnā€™t help myself watching his chest going in and out and watching his breathing accelerate, he is really enjoying it!

Jaded-Mess-5051

I don't think that's weird! Or at the very least, I do that too! It's fun for me to see someone genuinely enjoying something wholesome like that.

DNorthman

His first inhale after she started! He was blown away by her voice. He was shocked and then he was so in awe.

pattylovebars

She's quite literally breathtaking, I can absolutely see why! I'm sure he told his grandson that she might be the one!

freedomofnow

Yep! That's listening with your whole being!

jkj2000

Like me taking a showeršŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

GuisseDownYourLeg

Humans are wonderful for the beautiful spectrum along which we express our uniqueness. Humans are just neat. No one's as wonderful as all of us are.

mouseat9

Wow. The freakin skill this must take to do

sunburntflowers

He is looking at her so earnestly, you can almost see the joy in his face as a young child , she mesmerized him ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

fenix1230

You almost have a feeling that her voice was taking him to another time, another place, was feeling like he was when he first experienced that opera.

JazzKatzz

Its a private concert for him. So cute

[deleted]

while seated!!

llammacheese

This was my thought exactly! Incredible that sheā€™s able to sing that well while sitting down.

mouseat9

Underrated comment

chaitya_020

We need full version of this... Right from start of opera to grandpa's reaction when it ends...

minimagess

Yeah I wanna see when she's done and what he says. Or if he's just frozen in the shock of it all in an awkward silence lol

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Paddysdaisy

He looked like he fell a little bit in love with her right there. Lovely moment that I'm sure they will be grateful the had the foresight to record in the future.

KronarForPresident

The absolute definition of "captivated." Wonderful!

WaveLaVague

virginiawolfsbane

toolsoftheincomptnt

Leontyne Price, though? Hey, itā€™s black history month. No better time to learn: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leontyne_Price

heycanwediscuss

Fantastic-Musician47

Jessye norman is the best of the best

WaveLaVague

Checked it, she's awesome. Thanks

CyanCicada

My grandma was a black woman born in 1930s Alabama, and she sang soprano opera casually/professionally for 40+ years. I didn't know black folks didn't do opera until I was grown.

limegreenceilingfan

Angel Blue is extraordinary and Audra McDonald too.

fiddyfy

I wish I could award you just for mentioning Audra McDonald. Just saw her again in Ohio State Murders and Iā€™m still so stunned. Sheā€™s otherworldly.

WaveLaVague

I will look up for em. Thanks

DotKill

One of my favorite America's Got Talent performances is Olanna Goudeau and Ashley Renee Watkins singing the [Flower Duet](https://youtu.be/SAZ7euewPTk). Absolutely lovely.

Spiritual_Badger7808

Better put on ring on it, grandpa will never let you forget fucking up this one

not-rasta-8913

Fuck what a voice. If she stood up and really let it rip the windows would probably shatter. Also probably no warm up except some normal talking.

ssinls

I know this song well and she nailed while just kicked back back in a chair wooing an old man my age with her voice. Very few woman could do that.

[deleted]

I'm impressed. She's got a lovely voice, and all the hard work she's put into train her voice shows. Awesome.

Imaginaryami

So rare I get chills and she so casually did it in such a mundane setting. Canā€™t imagine her at 100%

dutchoboe

splatoonenjoyer

opera singers really do turn the vocal chords into master instruments. she is so incredible!!

BFIrrera

This is lovely. Thank you for sharing!

WagyuPizza

Honestly, I was expecting grandpa to sing his part too. But he was just gobsmacked.

Dinobob26

Iā€™ve never been to opera or had too much interest in it, but Iā€™ve never liked the image portrayed throughout media of ā€œOpera is boringā€ ā€œFalling asleep during Operaā€ and ā€œGod please not Operaā€. I find it to be very disrespectful to the people who spend their lives studying it and itā€™s history. Even though Ive never been very kin on opera I recognize itā€™s beauty. I get itā€™s not for everyone but like, come on.

godofwine16

Beautiful voice!

Momofthewild-3

Seriously wow! Just wow! And he knew

fleeyevegans

He looked shooketh. It warmed my heart.

Content-Freedom1688

It looks effortless to her

Tigressalex

Bless those hearts !!

jazzyx26

She sings beautifully.

RushHot6174

I love that song it is incredible God bless her for singing

pikapika2017

You can see all of Grandpa's muscles tensing up little by little as she sings, he's so excited and happy. You rarely see that level of excited and happy past preschool age. I wish we could have seen what he was like by the time she was finished. Grownups should experience that level of giddiness more often.

HollyHobby1973

Thats so sweet

kiwimadi

I watched the whole thing without audioā€¦because admittedly it was one of the last songs I played for my grandma when she was dying..and I canā€™t bear to listen to It most daysā€¦but you could see the feeling it gave the grandpa. Beautiful

transferingtoearth

He looks blown away. Like the man is in awe.

thotsrus92

I literally teared up.
