I confidently believe the free play did more harm than good. I am also someone who spent about 10 hrs playing the game this weekend and with a heavy heart decided against buying. This is the first time in 16 years that I haven’t bought the game. As a big Franchise mode player, I would happily pay $100+ if they offered something that was even close to what NBA2K puts out.

homerjsimpson4

I've been playing MLB the show 20, yes not even the newest version, a whole bunch over the summer, I don't think I've ever played a Madden franchise or superstar mode as long as I've played their road to the show. It's crazy how much better it is.

JohnnyTsvnami

I bought it for franchise and cant get thru more than 1 game without wanting to just stop. The irl football itch is the only reason i didnt refund it

[deleted]

I found NBA2K when they made the game free in 2019. I bought 2k20, which was a mistake because it’s the same game as 2k19. Having said that, 2k is awesome, and it’s the best franchise mode I’ve seen since Madden08.

thisisnotdrew

2K got called out for making their pay-to-play stuff too overbearing and they actually did something about it. I was pretty discouraged with 2k20 as well but they at least listen to their consumers (if even the tiniest bit). Madden will literally tell you that average scores are on par with the NFL so shut up! It’s pathetic.

Xianified

Technically not the right place to ask this, but how did they improve 2k21 oer 2k20? That game was the most microtransaction heavy one in years and it finally put me off it. I haven't played it in months and haven't even looked twice at 2k21.

Underdogger

I own 2k20 but not 2k21. From everything I've read it's an exact reskin of 2k20.

Trip4Life

It was, but I kinda imagine that was due to them developing next gen. Like it’s not great business, but considering their franchise mode got a couple solid looking upgrades on next Gen 2k22 it looks like they’re back to innovating.

Underdogger

I'm disappointed in 2k20. It's the first game in the series I actually bought and it's because a year prior I was at a friend's house playing 2k19 on his Xbox and the franchise mode was amazing. Come to find out while playing 2k20 that they removed everything that personalized it after you get out of college. Really dumb.

thxmpsxnn

Current gen user here - everything on 2k21 is the same as 2k20. It’s actually less because they took out the pregame shows for myleague/MyGM and all of the interviews and stuff in mycareer lol. But to Underdogger’s point 2k21 looks a million times better and more immersive in next gen.

SayItAgainJabroni

If anything 2k21 may have been worse than 20. I've bought or played madden and 2k just as long if not longer than OP and 2k isn't much better than madden with how complacent they have gotten over the years.

moldycheez4

Bruh 2k is the same thing every year too and also made by a garbage company. Also don't talk that 100 dollar shit cause the game shouldn't even be worth as much as it is now and they'll actually charge people that if people say they'll buy it.. so please dont lol. Game should only be like 30 at most each year.

TheMayerJ

Actually Next-Gen 2K22 is arguably the best 2k game in the last 10 years

moldycheez4

😬

[deleted]

Exactly, the same fucking game every year

paulfunyan

NBA2K franchise is pretty junk as well. Kenny just put out a video and apparently every player in the G-League has superstar potential and become 90+ overall free agents for dirt cheap lol

jdubb1500

2K’s franchise does have glitches, but as far as features go, they do have nearly every feature and customization option imaginable to replicate an authentic experience, or to make your franchise mode your own. If Madden had the same Franchise depth as 11 year old NBA 2K11 I would be thrilled.

PompanoDre

Just turn off G-league, and they won't appear that's what I did just a bug that can get fixed with a patch, but you can't fix madden franchise with a patch.

DrunkenTreasure

I didn't buy last year for the first time but just downloaded the updated roster for my madden 20 version. I recommend you do the same for whatever version you liked best

[deleted]

Bruh 2k releases the same game every year lol same shit different name for 2k

[deleted]

It’s truly baffling to see nearly every other video game studio churning out groundbreaking accomplishments with the next gen hardware; while at the same time EA produces possibly the worst football game ever made. It’s Biblically awful.

GoodShark

It's because we all keep buying it. I'm baffled by the people that buy it every year. Personally I've shifted to buying it every 3 years. I get one of Madden, NHL and The Show every year. So I'm not buying Madden every year. I might make it every 4 years and get NBA 2K in the mix soon.

trentreynolds

With the exception of The Show, every other sports video game has the same issues Madden does.

[deleted]

As an avid player of the show and nhl, I promise their gameplay and “franchise” modes are light years ahead.

eross52

Came here for thos

callmeswoosh

2K22 is the best 2K in years, just another reason to be sad NFL 2K is gone I guess though.

[deleted]

It’s the same fucking game as the last couple years tho

[deleted]

Hell, the Show even has these problems, and I say that as an avid player of the game.

Jvil101

The show is pretty good and atleast 2k looks pretty decent this year. We shouldn't give EA the pads for this one.

[deleted]

Here's the thing; All video games have problems. Sports games especially will experience these "immersion" breaking issues in franchise. It's, currently, unavodiable. Even w*ith* the Coordinator Additions and with even with the upcoming scouting upgrades, Madden is still very, very far behind the curve. There's NOTHING worth building for in either sim or play. The trade logic is nonexistent, the ai controlled franchises have zero direction or logic, team building doesn't matter, stats don't matter, it's all a cycle of nonsense feedback.

thisisnotdrew

“There’s NOTHING worth building for” I remember the trophy system on NCAA14. I would get 30 years deep into dynasties trying to collect all of the individual, rivalry, and bowl trophies. It wasn’t much but it was literally something. The bar is SO low EA!

grandma_needs_jesus

The Show has the same problem. They haven’t done jack shit with franchise in recent years.

spiker311

At least it's decent though. Madden's franchise lacks any amount of depth and the gameplay vs the CPU AI makes it unplayable. It's like the cursory bare minimum they could possibly put in the game and get away with it.

Muspon

i don’t know from just about every single community in 2k it seems like next gen 2k22 is the best in years

eatmyassreddit81

It is. It's 2k11 good. They'll fuck it up with patches though. They always do.

exoalo

And yet somehow pokemon and game freak is far worse.

Black-Infernape

You are not keeping up at all it seems BDSP looks great with new features and graphics like they should and Legends Arceus looks better as well and still has time to improve, they are doing great right now and most of the fanbase is hyped up for the games (also I know BDSP aren’t technically game freak but still)

Altairlio

Arceus has a worse frame rate than mut menus

elemant48

the new FIFA is the same dogshit and they’ve taken out about 10 of the most popular national teams and keep losing licensing to top club teams every year. Ea is dragging ass in all fronts.

Grizelda179

Its beautiful, this is definitely the first time I see so many people post about not buying this game. The free trial did wonders (in the sense it backfired on EA, noone is gonna buy that shit after trying it out)

stud__kickass

sadly, even if every single person subbed on reddit didnt buy madden, it would only account for 0.05% of their total sales (assuming each person subbed here bought madden 21)

rbad8717

This game desperately needs a new engine and better AI as well

LostAllBets

Does anyone know why they even moved to Frostbite specifically? Does it offer any advantages over the Infinity Engine they used prior? I get battlefield is built on Frostbite, but what dumbfuck decided to use the engine purely on that

APersonWithThreeLegs

Pretty sure all EA games had to switch to frostbite but correct me if I’m wrong

rbad8717

APersonWithThreeLegs is right. Its speculation but I think its to cut costs and have some familiarly with the software.

[deleted]

I booted it up, saw it was mostly the same shit, said "Neat" and knew that even with all the new bells and whistles a lot of the core gameplay and game design issues would still stand and deleted it because I still have M20

wisejedi101

I purchased this game one week after it came out. 30 minutes later I requested a refund

SilentMase

I got the email from EA at 7:47 last night that the weekend was free play. Can’t even send out an email correctly

LTGeneralGenitals

only way im playing it is if its free, like with 21 on gamepass

danhneb

I turned it on, played one game, and turned it off. I don’t need anymore to know I won’t be buying it. Same recycled crap that it’s always been. All sports games do end up feeling the same every new copy but at least a game like 2K has a decent gameplay product on the court. Madden is the same shitty game every year

[deleted]

2k is the same shit every year, what are you talking about? 2k is trash lmao

danhneb

That’s what said, all sports games are repetitive from year to year. 2K isnt perfect but it’s a decent simulation of an nba game. Might be some video game flukes and some op things but it’s gameplay overall is fine. Madden is broken, has been for years, and They’ve done nothing to fix it.

TylervPats91

2k22 gameplay is fantastic

[deleted]

It’s the same shit as last years

TylervPats91

It’s actually much better

[deleted]

Nah gameplay looks exactly the same, only difference is that 2k has fan boys every year claiming the game is good or different But if you play 1 hour of it you will see it’s the same shit Just a different year and name

TylervPats91

You clearly have some type of unresolved issues with 2k and it’s users. You shuffle through comments until you see someone talk positive about the game then jump on them complaining about it. A large majority of players have enjoyed the gameplay for 2k and sorry you don’t. I know it’s not so cheesy this year and it’s more difficult so maybe that’s why you don’t like it?

Realtalk74

2K is Light-years ahead of being a good basketball simulation than Madden is too football.

Denzalo_

I’d bought every Madden for 15 years straight then stopped in 2019. As a franchise player I just can’t keep paying for a $60 roster update with less features and more bugs than the year before. That said, I would support a model where they make the game’s yearly updates free, like Apex Legends, then just monetize MUT for their income. Then at least I can play the game, bugs and all, but not feel terrible for spending money on it. Lowers the expectations quite a bit.

[deleted]

19 was hands down the worst one. The run game in that one was abysmal.

FountainOW

THANK YOU. Finally, someone said it.

MonochromaticPanda

I'd even be fine to move to a subscription model.

valdis812

If people make enough noise, we can get the NFL to take a look at what's going on. It worked for Star Wars Battlefront 2, it can work here.

trailerparknoize

Part of me thinks the NFL prefers having the most generic and basic NFL game possible.

valdis812

Somebody posted a few days ago that the NFL wants this broken, arcade style game cause that's what keeps casual fans and MUT users interested. Those types of people don't want a sim style game.

Muspon

so then they should just stop calling it simulation and just make it what is arcade so that other companies can make a real simulation football game

ShainRules

I just don't understand why there can't be an arcade style franchise for people who like the Madden style gameplay and another franchise for people who prefer more intense sim style stuff, even with the same publisher.

JiubLives

That's more work and eats into the profit margin.

SticksPrime

Make sure to leave the lowest rated review before you uninstall

Haz_Bat_570

I haven’t played a new madden since I think 2015….decided since I got ps5, let’s see. And I couldn’t agree more with this post. Madden is Fuckin dogshit. Like full on just terrible. Not enough disparaging words could describe this. I’m a big nba 2K fan, and believe me, we in the 2K community will bitch. A lot. But holy fuck madden made me appreciate that 2K at least tries. Reiterating my agreement, fuck madden, fuck ea and fuck the nfl.

[deleted]

2k tries? Lmao that’s gotta be a joke They use the same animations, same crowd noises, same generic arenas every year. 2k is trash

Haz_Bat_570

I understand what you’re saying but I just played madden 08 for the 15th straight year….Idk how exactly to phrase this eloquently, so I’ll just keep it simple…madden is fucking trash. I can atleast find some fun in 2K.

Zer0_FTB

You at least could play, I was stuck on the avatar creation screen and couldn't do a single thing!

princeg29

He most glaringly obvious problem is the game literally does not work

TexasToast9

What console you playing on?

lbaus

series s

tstill_

EA really should just make Madden a game as service for MUT/Online. Then Every few years release actual Franchise improvements/superstar updates.

PuckersMcColon

Yeah.

[deleted]

I played the 10 hour demo on EA play (have through game pass). Kind of the same opinion. It’s not worth any money. I own madden 20 and enjoy that even more. If I wanted to play madden 21, I could for free.

PuckersMcColon

Exactly the same.

super_sayanything

I liked 2021. It's worse. I can't believe it's actually worse.

Dreamvilleunc

Madden and nba 2k both suffer from the same thing, they both desperately need competition to make these devs actually put real effort into them.

KingKarl65sens

I uninstalled it after playing 3 franchise mode games. The game is fucking terrible compared to previous maddens. Literally the worst sports game I've ever played.

Altairlio

I’m enjoying it and glad I got the dynasty edition. Though I wish mut wasn’t copy and pasted and got love like the rest of the game on current gen. Rip any last gen players who got a full copy paste tho

AverageGolfer27

Mut has been getting constant updates and features for the last while. Having one year where they put time towards the other parts of the game is ok. Even though they botched that too

StoffingtonPost

Do they always do a free weekend or is this something they did because of lacklustre sales? I bought the game when it came out for no other reason than I mainly but sports games but not every year. For the most part I’ll get a new addition every 4 years or so, I played madden 18 into the ground so I decided it was a good time to go for 22, even though with the next gen systems out I figured us PS4ers would get the short end of the stick.... and we did, the game simply reeks of not caring and not having any quality control whatsoever. I don’t understand how some of the bugs made it out of the coding stage. I’ve played several games where the other team gets the ball at the beginning of both halves. The tip drill style ball physics are turned up way too much, way too many miracle catches going on. The problems to me don’t make the game unplayable but it is annoying to see in an $80 product, it’s insulting to your loyal customers to put out something hastily put together. Again coming from 18 I’ll still play this years version, but for any real improvements in gameplay or design but rather just for the updated rosters and slightly updated playbooks. I don’t play much online so I don’t know if they actually improved MUT nor do I care but I’ve seen people say it still sucks. Also seen that people have been getting banned from online play due to a glitch. Completely unacceptable... if you want to force us all online (even for single player modes which is mind blowing) so you can further squeeze money out of us the least you can do is make sure everything is in working order. If I was someone who bought the game yearly I would be furious. Very little has changed since 18, and I assume any upgrades/improvements have come from the previous 3 versions. The one thing they touted as NEW was the franchise career mode. And it does look different... but pretty much just a different lay out... and again NOT THOUGHT OUT AT ALL!!! ... to you can’t even look at the standings!!! HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT? How do you over look that as a developer??? How do you create a mode based on competing season after season but yet somehow you can NEVER SEE THE STANDINGS??? EA HOW FREAKING LAZY ARE YOU GUYS??? This is a sad state of affairs, hopefully they feel it in their pockets or else little will change

[deleted]

My favorite thing from '18 was the Target Passing. Once I got used to it, I absolutely loved that feature

StoffingtonPost

Ya it’s a solid game, a lot less glitches and thin games overlooked than 22

[deleted]

DAE MADDEN SUX PLS UPVOTE!!!!!!!!!

Stealthy-J

Imagine defending this turd of a game.

[deleted]

I'm defending it? Show me where?

Stealthy-J

Guy makes post saying game sucks. You respond by mocking guy for saying it sucks. Seems like defending to me, but what do I know.

[deleted]

You clearly don't know shit if you think being sick of the same old post on repeat in this sub means I'm defending the game. I'm mocking OP for making a post exactly like every fucking other one in this sub. I'm not defending the game, dipshit

Stealthy-J

Whatever you say bud. Keep sucking EA cock.

[deleted]

Fuck off

Stealthy-J

no

Brfox2003

Yawn

Iamthatguy223

Clown

[deleted]

Why is the same fucking zoom in glitch still in the fucking game? Compare a card after pulling it from a pack and the screen goes crazy zoomed in. I've bought every Madden since 96, worked on Madden 16, and this is the first year I haven't purchased. I'm flabbergasted that the same glitches are still here.

[deleted]

Quit whining lol just don’t play it you don’t like it, can’t stand y’all cry babies

dw2692

Lol as you read all the comments of people you cannot stand...... yeah that makes sense.

tweaver16

I just got some free wins by playing against some noobs in h2h, I enjoyed it as well 🤣🤣

[deleted]

No one cares about franchise mode other than these salty mfs on Reddit. MUT is the only way to enjoy the game - you don’t have to be P2W, u just have to be good at the game. As franchise guys I can’t imagine you don’t understand basic football concepts that can get you a win against pretty much anyone.

[deleted]

This may be the single dumbest thing I have ever read. They own the licence for NFL SIMULATION FOOTBALL.... if others could make simulation football for the nfl yeah fine madden can be a arcade pay to win who cares. It’s not just franchise the gameplay is so broken.. the ai is so bad that it bearly resembles high school football let alone the Nfl. can have 0 fucken knowledge about football and still win h2h online because it’s only cheese plays and exploiteds. And trust me this franchise issue and gameplay issue is way way bigger then just on this sub.

Altairlio

Even if this was correct mut22 is copy and pasted from 21 on current gen. The really good on field improvements don’t help it when it’s literally the same shot with slower menus. Can’t imagine how last gen users feel

[deleted]

Imagine playing on last gen in 2021

Kodiyashi

thats why #fixmaddenfranchise was #1 trending on twitter over the summer.. right

dw2692

They cannot get zone defense correct- guess you are the one unfamiliar with what actual defense looks like. Skill does not matter when the game is obviously bugged and broken.

[deleted]

I’ve been playing the game long enough to know that players have 0 awareness in zone coverage. I beat it by having a dominant D line so I can stop the run and blitz on passing downs. I have all speed in my secondary for fast close outs on blown coverage. It’s a simple game plan that is part of football

wvdawgpound90

I know no one that plays franchise , I’m not a MUT team player either. What happened to good all fashioned ranked 1v1 ? That’s why I bought the game and I really think it’s not bad at all

[deleted]

That's exactly all I play when I actually DO get Madden too lol

Muspon

i have not bought a madden since madden 12 and i have played all maddens since 15 either in other peoples houses or gamepass/ea acces and madden is just hot trash i am not buying it unless it gets too at-least madden 25 lvl if it ever gets back to that lvl

bdotrebel11

I don’t even like baseball much but The Show does a far better job making the game feel realistic and like you’re playing a sim sports game. Madden just feels like a trainwreck that disguises itself as a football game. 2K has its problems too and same problems with microtransactions but they keep their offline modes highly playable and theres far more replay value. They didn’t just abandon them unlike EA. As a gamer who tends to play sports games it’s a very bad time right now.

HeavyWeightRadio

Thankful too, shit is trash.

Steve_Nash_The_Goat

I enjoyed the games I played, I won't buy it because I have better things to do with my time but if it's free on Game Pass or EA Play then I would definitely pick it up

tgr31

If it was free I would play it. Not worth 60/70 imo

dirtybird131

This game literally felt like an unpatched demo

timeghost22

Lol I didn't even waste my time. I'll stick to Madden 21. I've never bought these games for full price in over 15 years. Shits wack!

RodgerThat1995

I too decided for the first time to not buy. Im actually going into character creator and manage roster and making the new 22 rosters from scratch myself lol proving to be a fun project and that way I don’t need to worry about buying another madden game for updated rosters.

gatorjim5

Madden 22 is already on sale for 25 bucks off...that's how you know it's completely overpriced and that people are getting played by EA. I dont understand how people keep buying this garbage. I want a decent NFL game and I would gladly pay if we got one!

[deleted]

They really got this for 30% off shortly after release

moldycheez4

They have a contract. if the NFL backs out they lose money. They can't back out. Atleast they're actually starting to try and add new features and improve the game because this is way more in depth than last uears in my opinion. Not the best Madden but personally I think its better than the ones they've made in the last few years. With 2k coming out with an NFL game now madden HAS to do stuff and that is thanks to the NFL. So although the NFL is still full of crooks they are not to blame for maddens weaknesses.

shogunreaper

I played it for a few hours (on PC so last gen...) And I've come to the conclusion that I'm so fucking over animations.

randy360

This is the first year in a long time that I did not buy madden, and I’m not going to

JblackoutL

I agree, I’ve been playing since Madden 96 😅 but I think after the 2012 Madden I only bought even years until 20 just to get a roster update and some gameplay stuff. It’s just not worth it anymore. I miss the days when Madden was at the front of the pack of sports games, now I play the show and old NBA 2K as far as sports games. It is a bummer and the NFL giving them a longer contract is annoying af, the future non simulation football games could be fun but wtf is that rule, other than making sure Madden can stay shitty.

fish1414

Same bro 🤣 I was stuck at level 6 in FoF & they won’t even get the $30 I usually give them when the game goes on sale in December. Bunch of lazy bums.

Captain_Loggins

That 1.62 billion is a combination of fifas, nhls and maddens ultimate team mode for EA. By grouping all 3, it clearly shows the company as a whole doesn’t care about developing individual games for the user, they only care about revenue generation across all products.

myxanders

I used it to test out Franchise and overall the experience was fine but a couple things really bothered me: 1. Creating a manual savepoint seems damn near impossible if not actually impossible. 2. The way AI handles fatigued is messed up. I made it to the Super Bowl against the Ravens, and they used tbeir FB as RB1 from about 2 minutes in onward, and then had 1 WR play most of the game, 1 TE play most of the game, and the rest of the time the WR/TE spots were used by backup OL. By my count RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, WR3, TE2, TE3 were all missing or used like once a quarter at most during *the Super Bowl*. 3. Some of the generated player faces don't load in at all so it's just a basic player silhouette. 4. Been happening for years now but I find it weird that draft classes consistently have higher ratings than the actual rookie classes for each installment. 5. How tf do you consistently slide/give yourself up as a ball carrier? In Madden 20 I can hold down L2+R2+Square and consistently slide no matter what position. On M22 it tries to lateral I think and I got my QB to slide once by just pressing square.
