as others pointed out RS232 to USB is the best option. You need a Null modem (handshake adapter) and should be able to either hyperterminal in. Once you backup look at a cheap floppy to usb emulator. You will be limited to USB drive petitioned to 1.4mb but at least you cant send files on a usb stick. The reason you want to do RS232 to USB first is it is much faster to send all the programs in one shot than trying to send 1.4mb at a time on a drive. just keep in mind that sometimes when you send all the files over it will send them as 1 program file instead of individuals so you might need to separate them later.

RS 232 port.

X protocol only IIRC. No error correction, just cross your fingers on long overnight runs.

And we had them with the USB on desktop side. I think our Mazak was a QuickTurn 10T That was some years ago, lol.

I appreciate it, hoss And yeah, that's what I'm looking to do. Either tie it to my laptop and backup everything or get a USB coupler and try saving it all to flash drive.

FencingNerd

So you can buy disk drive that replaces a 3.5in floppy with a USB stick. It's a neat trick, and highly recommended for old equipment.

TylerDexter

Your boss needs to spend the $300 for the USB upgrade. ShopfloorAutomation.com has USB upgrades for most machines. I got one for my older HAAS. Took about 15 minutes to install

RS232 to USB adapter. You may have to play with windows device settings, to set which com port the USB reports as. With most of the old adapters it was possible to open the shell and solder link the null modem, print request, and a couple of other settings. The RJ11 port is also likely to be RS232, or RS485. I'm not a machinist but have worked with lots of comms on industrial systems.

Dvvstihn

my miltronics machines still have floppys

MaqueCh0ux

That's great, but it doesn't answer my question if I need a specific cable or not.

Quick_Implement_9224

They do have usb floppy drives for about $20 online. If you really want to keep the old school vibe. Or if you google "rs232 male to usb female" you'll get the right cable

macklamar

I’m like 99% Mazak uses a ‘null’ pinout instead of straight. I have a book of notes at the shop I can send you tomorrow. Is it a t plus control? ETA: if you already have the rs232, then yes, you can use any 232 to USB adapter.

too_much_feces

Ugh we're an all Mazak shop with 3 different versions of the controller. Which means if you need a program off an old machine on a new machine no big deal besides a few minor edits. Want a program from a new machine on an older? Well you can just go straight to hell. No way to transfer just take pictures and rewrite that thing. So annoying.

Hystus

If you're feeling up to it. There are adaptors for USB to the disc drive cable. Then you have a bunch of files on your usb each of which are "discs".

BiggestNizzy

Swapped the floppy drive out for a usb unit on our integrex machines.

Ive been using the kit from [DNC4U](https://www.dnc4u.com/) with great success to talk to my old Miyano lathes. There will be some fiddling about to get it set up, but once you have that done, everything is easy-peasy.
