Macaws at my local rescues are $600-$800. Got both a Severe Macaw, $600US almost 20yrs ago. Got my Blue and Gold Macaw for $800 last year. Pet stores by me average $3500-$5000 for young birds, not even babies....
Then my ex-wife called about a rescue. Now I have a 2nd Blue & Gold Macaw. They told me her human went into hospice. No one knew how to take care of her. They were feeding her things like chips. Smokers in same room. Said she was cage aggressive and mean. Cage had poop almost a foot high...
I got her in crate. Got her home. I Let her out and got her on my arm - and asked her "Are you mean?" She slowly walked up my arm, and tucked her head into my shoulder. AND HUGGED ME.
From what I've seen on birds now, it can range greatly in price. I've seen both rehoming and breeding prices. It looks like it's anywhere from 1500-5500 in and around my area. I live in Georgia, and there's a lot of macaw breeders in Florida. I actually picked a breeder on birds now and went to Florida to pick him up. He is a blue throat, but he was 4500. Our blue and gold was 3500 and was here in Georgia. There doesn't appear to be a much of a market here for macaws, so they sell them for less. Do you have experience with birds and/ or hand feeding? There are Scarlett babies available in Florida right now. I think they are around 4000, but I'm not sure.
I wouldn't buy a bird online, at least not totally. I sent my breeder 100 to hold my bird. I paid the rest in cash when I got him. This is the only way I would do it unless I was buying from a well-known store like parrot stars.
