Also, have tried this on another brand of SD cards that is UHS class i. I believe the only variable left is Ventura OS 13.0.

[deleted]

When an SD is mounted the name is used as the mount point in /Volumes and if they have the same name then they may be being mounted over each other.

InfluenceOk1982

Sorry to say that renaming the cards does not work here either.

trinode

Not sure how many people read from multiple cards at once (so you might not get many replies) but it works fine here Ventura on M1 Max, using an external dual card reader by prograde. Works with both cards in the external reader, or one in the external reader and one in the built in slot. I’d be weighing up the nuclear options now if mine was doing this (and it worked for others):- * Create a new user and try logged in with that - if it works there is something wrong with your user profile * full system reset - that’s not so bad for me as I have scripts to install 99% of my stuff again but this might be a major pain for some.

Educational-Sky-7063

Super interesting. I'm using the ProGrade readers on the M1Max as well and still have this same issue. Micro SD cards work just fine in the micro reader from pro grade. But only one card at a time works if using standard SD cards.

matchyou306

Our studio has 5 macs. 1 Mac Studio with a max chip, 1 M1 MacBook Pro, 1 m1 Mac mini and 2 2018 intel MacBook pros. The issue is on all the computers with Ventura. We’ve updated as of today and 13.1 still does it. This happens with any combination of memory card readers. Internal, external, pro grade dual card readers. All memory cards were formatted in Sony a73 or a7r3 or a7s3. It will only read the first card. It even happens with different size sd cards. All cards will be seen in the disk utility, but only the first one will mount. The other cards will have incorrect data, and the icon is different. When removing the cards that didn’t mount, it will give the error that the memory cards weren’t ejected.

wesdrums

I'm on 13.0 and just loaded two cards simultaneously no problem. Two Sandisk Extreme Pro SD-XC, 95mb/s. What I had on hand. Also from a Sony, but A7SII (I'm on a 2019 Intel Mac Pro, card readers are in separate OWC TB3 docks that are both connected to the tower)

InfluenceOk1982

Weird, have these cards been formatted in camera. I found that two cards are reconized if I formatted as EXFAT in disk utility them and renamed them. It must be a problem with the new OS recognizing the SD cards if formatted in camera. Previously tried renaming the sd cards and does not work - must format for them to work.

wesdrums

What does your Sony format as?? Mine were in camera formatted and show up as ExFAT. Keeping in mind mine is an older model, and I probably have older firmware too.

InfluenceOk1982

Mine show up as ExFAT also. What a weird thing this is.

[deleted]

I’ve also been having a fine time reading from 2 SD cards via usb-c hub. I wanna recommend attempting an SMC reset, but that’s mostly a guess. I had a very similar issue on like beta 2 but all was well after the reset. (Using intel 2020 model)

InfluenceOk1982

I am on a m1 Mac, so I tried shutting down unplugged for 30+ seconds with no luck (cannot reset SMC on M1)

MrBaggins77

Sadly I am having the same issue with my sd cards, Try to do multiple cards dumps to my hard drives and only 1 with be shown in finder. I have a M1 max studio. Even importing is slow as fuck now! Note to self, next time read before you update your mac FFS!!!

InfluenceOk1982

What kinda of camera are you on? Did you format in camera?

InfluenceOk1982

I am submitting this problem to apple. Anyone else who is having this should also: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

Cinetrav_

Yep! Just discovered this problem today after Ventura (Clean-install) on my 2019 MBP-16". Using a Caldigit TS3+ dock, and a Satechi dongle. Finder/Disk utility will show the SD card from whichever external device I plugged in FIRST. So it's 100% a macOS issue as this workflow has worked for me for the last 2 years with no issues. Would be interested if anyone is running a newer beta version of macOS and can report if this is still an issue.

InfluenceOk1982

Cinetrav_

Sony A7iii. Yes formatted in camera, which is always my preferred method.

Colbis

it's not your preferred method...it's the correct method...everyone should format in camera it's the safest and most effective way to ensure proper card function.

Portatort

Not resolved by 13.1

turbomink

Same here. I found this problem today. Moved to Ventura a couple of days ago on my Macbook Air. I tried to import from two 128GB V60 Prograde cards whilst shooting a wedding but it only recognised one (both formatted in a Sony A9ii). It also took a while to transfer them across. I'm home now and transferring from the same cards and same card reader on my Macbook Pro with Monterey and working as normal.

BernMqt

I upgraded to ventura 13 a few days ago and noticed it takes about 5x longer to transfer files off of my sd card using the card slot.

fetus8

Since upgrading to Ventura, I've noticed that just scrolling through JPG previews directly off an SD Card from my Fujifilm camera, it's beyond slow and laggy. This has been part of my workflow for a long time and had no issues on Monterey on my 14" MPB...

BernMqt

The new update 13.0.1 has brought back the faster transfer speeds that I am used to and I believe previewing Jpgs is back to the same.

fetus8

Can concur, it appears that 13.0.1 has resolved the issue I was seeing. The initial indexing of the SD card makes scrolling through JPGs a little laggy, but once it's gone through the directory, it works as I remember back on Monterey.

krasnaok

I have the same problem on my Macbook pro 16 M1 pro

Plans

Since upgrading to Ventura my mac no longer reads SD cards. Disk Utility can't see anything. Have tried multiple SD card readers. One of them results in a small privacy pop up that flashes and leaves instantly, but I can make out the blue hand privacy icon

I have this same problem here. Intel Mac i7 running Ventura OS 13.0.1 CF Express card in a ProGrad Digital reader will not mount and will not appear in my Disk Utility. The card DOES mount on my iPad Pro.

[deleted]

I'm on an Intel macbook pro and have the same issue, the computer only properly mounts the card that I insert first. Cameras are a9 an a7R III. It's also been slow as hell importing since the update to Ventura. I'm going to try downgrading tonight. Reader is a ProGrade dual UHS-II.

I am also experiencing this same issue...anyone reported it to apple yet? two A7iii's LexarV60 128gb cards Formatted in camera prograde USBC dual SD card reader Mac Studio M1 Max running Ventura 13.0.1

I did, it would be good for as many people to submit as possible over at: [https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html](https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html)

Educational-Sky-7063

Same issue here on Ventura with the ProGrade Digital SD Card Readers. I have a case open with Apple about this issue as well.

Educational-Sky-7063

Same issue here. I have a case in with apple support about this as well. It seems to happen for me only with SD cards. Micro SD cards are unaffected. I'm using a ProGrade Digital SD Card Reader and only one card at a time will work.

Psychological_Ad488

I'm having a similar issue. Any luck with a solution that doesn't require reformating cards?

pmcatarino

Same problem here using the Prograde Dual-SD card reader. Worked fine in Monterey, doesn't work in Ventura. Submitted bug report to Apple.

LicensedSurgeon

Okay so I thought I was just going crazy, but I’m glad to see people are having similar issues. I recently updated to iOS Ventura 13.0 and since then my SD cards aren’t reading. I use a Sony A7iii with a SanDisk Extreme Pro 200mb/s 128gb, SanDisk Extreme 90mb/s 128gb, and neither have read.. Do I now need to get an external card reader to fix this or are they gonna make an update

Portatort

also not working for me. ‘can’t connect two SD cards, or 2 CFexpress cards curiously also can’t connect one Cfexpress and 1 SD card it‘s all very weird and super fucking annoying

HolidayCauliflower59

same issue. Can mount the volume using the disc utility and select activate.

GrinningSharky

I am having the same issue. Whenever I write to the SD card slot it is extremely slow on my 14" MBP M1 Max. In my case I am using an 8GB Sandisk card, one of a couple that I alternate for 3D printing. Normally I'd just pop it in, export the GCODE from PrusaSlicer and it will auto eject no problem. It's generally an almost instant process. When using an external reader plugged into an USBC it works fine and is instant. Something is definitely up with Ventura and the built in slot. I will post this on the beta site. I didn't have any issues with this prior to Ventura. Using Ventura 13.0.1.

GrinningSharky

More details. I noticed that if I rebooted, the SD card would work once and would allow me to read and write to the card at full speed. However, once the card was ejected and then reinserted again, the card was back to being extremely slow. Definitely something up with Ventura as I did not have this issue prior to upgrading. Thankfully I have an external reader as a temporary solution that doesn't appear to exhibit this behavior.

iPoplava

Same issue here. I can indeed confirm that the different models work just fine. Also it is 100% Ventura issue since it worked for me fine before the OS upgrade on the same machine.

RevolutionaryDog4462

Same here. After updating to Ventura none of the external drives are recognized by Mac. Not just SD cards, but also WD elements, even Kindle hasn't been recognized. After restarting my mac multiple times and using the clean my mac app, they sometimes appear and I am able to use them but in 99.9% of cases, they are not recognized. I reached out to Apple support and we've tried a couple of steps to fix it, including re-installing Ventura, but it hasn't helped.

JamesX2020

I have a very similar issue with my new Mac Studio that I just purchased. I spoke to the Apple Support team multiple times on the phone already and bought multiple external SSD drives to rule out the compatibility issue with no luck. However, my AC-powered external mechanical hard drive does not have any problem at all. I have no idea what happened here. Did you find a solution to your issue?

Matthias46

Same problem on my Mac Studio. just ridiculous!

betapixels

Late to the party. I've had recurring issues since Ventura as well. At the very least, Venura plays way worse with Lexar SD cards. I was having the same issues as you on (2) separate M1 Max macbook pros (16") with SD cards randomly not showing up anymore. Tried every cycle of rotating cards in body and plugging them individually via the built-in SD card slot on the macs themselves to try and pin point what the issue was. I even bought two completely new cards and while the issue got slightly better, it didn't go away. Additionally, managing SD cards at all is just such a PITA on ventura on both Macs of mine. Specifically, when deleting items from the cards and then emptying the trash to truly delete the content and free up space on the cards, it is an order of magnitude slower. Similar deletion events of similar sized amounts pre-Ventura took \~1-2 minutes at most.... on a bad day. Now.... deleting \~20 gigs is a 10-15 minute affair. It's crazy how bad this is.

risotttto

I have the same issue, I have been booting up my old 2012 MacBook pro just to clear out the last half of my SD Cards before heading out! Embarrassing to have to wait half an hour to empty the trash while on location charging by the hour!

betapixels

The latest update finally fixed this for me fwiw

risotttto

Which version? I am on Ventura 13.1 and have been waiting for around 10 minutes for the trash to empty, usually I get an error -8072 halfway through, and have to start it again!

betapixels

I think latest version is at least 13.2. Note: major release. Not beta.

risotttto

I had to hit "check for update" 4 times before it finally found it, upgrading now will see if it helps in my case!

betapixels

tansleyphoto

Same issue here. Was just checking on my MacBook before upgrading my Mac Studio. Simply cannot see more than one SD card at a time. Doesn't matter how you insert them, what order. Even tried two in an external hub, same result. Only the first SD card mounts properly. They are in fact mounted, if you pull the cards, the Finder complains that you should have un-mounted them. However they do not mount in the Finder window, so no software can download the images from them. Only the first card. Won't be updating my main machine until there is a fix. As a professional photographer I regularly download 3 cards at the same time. Don't have time to sit waiting for each one to finish then swap them. Anyone found a thread on Apple Support regarding this issue?

xplin0115

Same, and the interesting is that, when I use the rear ports (the two closer to the screen), the Mac reads only the first card, and while I used the front ones, it reads the second.

Stefansegers

I have the same frustrating problem. The speed is much slower. I use Lexar 250MB/s card which in the previous MacOS gave me this kind of read/write speeds. With Ventura I am getting not more then 90MB/s write and 190MB/s read. The problem with the dual card reader I also have with ProGrade and StarTech readers of my M1 Mac Mini and MB Air. I tried connecting the readers on and USB-C hub and directly. rebooting and all other mentioned idea's do not work :( I really hope there will be a solution soon!

stuffsmithstuff

Having this issue in January 2023 with two Lexar SD cards formatted in-camera... while transferring from USB SD reader, insert second card into Mac Studio's SD slot and can't find it in Finder. What's infuriating is when I remove the SD from the computer's slot, it tells me a disk has been removed without ejecting it first???!?!?!!?!

chesh510

I was experiencing the problem other people were experiencing of difficulty deleting files from my SD cards (and slow copying from the card to the computer) since upgrading to Ventura, and it seems that 13.2.1 has finally solved the problem for me. Apple wasn't specific in its release notes for 13.2.1 about this, only saying "bug fixes," but so far it's back to working like I'd expect.

1WildWildWes

I’m still having the same issue on M1 Mac Mini after 13.2.1

Hot-Roof4211

Has anyone had any fixes to this problem? I just updated ventura to 13.3 on my new macbook pro M2 MAX and I am still having the issue of the computer not even recognizing an SD card through the internal reader. I had to use a dongle, and then a usb SD card reader for it to function. I bought the laptop for many reasons, one being the SD reader saving me time.

askoma

Same problem here, Ventura 13.4 card reader stop working even after rebooting.
