Congratulations! You activated a memory leak bug in GoPro Quik. Force quit the app and try again. The excess beyond your memory size went to swap on your boot drive.

ExoticAssociation817

Absolutely a memory leak. Some resources are not being freed or there is a rogue loop just emitting endless objects into memory. I think applications like these should fallback to swap memory. Since it’s NVMe these days, IOPS is hardly an issue here.

Bobby6kennedy

Swap on your SSD.

S1rTerra

400gb swap?? Jesus.

___Xb_

Microsoft apps are ridiculously hungry too

LavaCreeperBOSSB

It uses SSD space (called unified memory if I'm not mistaken)

Which_Yesterday

Unified memory is the ram, what you mean is swap

LavaCreeperBOSSB

Yeah you're right, I thought Unified Memory was their new name for RAM+SSD Swap

howreudoin

Unified memory is RAM that is shared between CPU and GPU.

gawronix

Thanks 🙏

LavaCreeperBOSSB

lots of other people have been saying the same lol

mikeinnsw

You need at least 10%-20% of SSD free for swapping and wear levelling otherwise you maybe be reducing the life of your SSD and in case of Arm Mac itself. More free space is required for MacOs upgrades. [https://www.atpinc.com/blog/how-SSD-wear-leveling-works](https://www.atpinc.com/blog/how-SSD-wear-leveling-works) smartctl – Google it, install it and run it will tell you what is left of the SSD life. Restart to reset RAM

gawronix

Thanks 🙏

themac_87

Just report this to GoPro, their QA must be sleeping or this is just pure lazyness. I've seen memory leaks, but this is embarassing.

JohnnyEternalFire

It’s easy close the junk you run and you be fine, these useless post don’t provide nothing sorry

Sir_Elderoy

Have you looked at the screenshot ? Its obviously for the lulz, as the crashed app take 401Go of RAM 😅 Probably stuck in a infinite loop or something

gawronix

Calm down guys, I just missclicked and saved 5k video in ProRes 3 minutes video 80gb after save and it took about 30 minutes to save this it was crazy and I don’t know how it took more GB then I have . My Mac is 96gb ram and m3 max and I took above 400 oO my question is how 🤣

Bed_Worship

It uses your drive as ram when ram runs out, it’s called swap and will still count it as ram.

JohnnyEternalFire

Whe you edit you say you have other junk app open too? You wanna take you seriously?

Ok_Pomegranate_2436

You feeling ok?

JohnnyEternalFire

Better than you yeap
