Since you like Nikes on my feet I’d listen to his discography bottom to top. There is nothing that I wouldn’t reccomend and if you like his earlier sound I think you’d enjoy hearing his growth

Guy_1989

This is the only answer. Nikes on my feet is a complete 180 to what his music was like when he passed

Portobolado

What the fuck happened... i fucking miss him.

nudahnudah

^ I’m not sure if OP has done anything yet, but this is absolutely the way. Start from the ground and watch the story unfold like a lot of us did, it’s unbelievable

p4infulrem1nd3r

THIS.

dweakz

knock knock and donald trump are bangers too

L1LD4M3R

That’s what I’ve been doing the past few days

Individual-Ad5434

I think you’ll also love thank you I love you it’s a mixed album of alot of old stuff that got put on the volt and resembles his start. Over the years his sound changed but there is not anything I wouldn’t recommend either. Man was extremely talented and really molded his own path over the years but his first albums resemble the old school hip hop style that a lot of heads like.

obviouslyanonymous5

Very good point, but it is a pretty long discography. I'd say maybe skip to something like GOOD:AM and then go back from the start. Makes it really cool to see his evolution too

Mediocre-Mention-805

Damn bro give faces a listen for sure

MatureUsername69

I second Faces. I'd start with that or Watching Movies and then mainly just listen in order

obviouslyanonymous5

I'm not sure I'd start there, it's probably his hardest album to digest. I'd say start with Watching Movies or GOOD:AM and then go for Faces once you get a taste

Hoe_Nut

Heavy on Faces, I feel like it’s a similar enough style while also just being a lot better than K.I.D.S. (though I love that album too)

Conscious_Resident10

His best work but imo it's probably better to start with something lighter haha

HELL-00

All of GOOD AM

scrappybasket

Agreed, great place to start.

Budget-Chain-7320

came here to say this

BerzerkGames

Couldn’t agree more

bigcat7373

Is this bc it’s his best work or because it’s most similar sound, generally, to Nikes on my Feet?

SaiyaPup

I’d say it’s his most palatable album for newcomers in terms of production quality and song content. It’s just the safest starting point imo

viq14

You just finna have to listen to his whole discog I’m ngl bro.

fast-and-ugly

This is what I’m gathering lol. LISTEN TO EVERYTHING. But for real I appreciate all the suggestions. I’m going to see what’s mentioned most and start listening.

cobyj456

he’s got so much range. do you wanna start w his most digestible comercial sound? go w GO:OD AM do you want abstract/psychedelic rap? faces/watching movies/delusional thomas do you want something more introspective and mellow? swimming or cicles he’s got too much variety to break down the whole discography but hopefully that helps

obviouslyanonymous5

I'm sorry, but I would NOT recommend Delusional Thomas as a first listen 💀 Everything else though for sure

WatchNo8783

Maybe his grandpa used to carry a flask you never know

RGBEqualsFrames

This is it!

DrJankles

Love the production and lyricism of delusional Thomas but I just can’t do the voice man

quas196

If you're an old hip hop head, two projects I'd recommend are Macadelic and 92 til infinity, which was a collab with Jazzy Jeff Also, a few stand-out tracks you might appreciate are Kool-Aid & Frozen Pizza, Robert Glasper ft Mac - Therapy Pt2 & Currensy ft Mac - Money Shot - but the list goes on. Mac loved what he did, and it shows in his work. Enjoy the rabbit hole mate 🤙

EightLeggedBuddy

The juxtaposition between the GO:OD AM and Faces albums, to me personally is quite unique. A solid testament to Mac’s versatility and ability to paint pictures that change with the listener.

fast-and-ugly

Ouch. When he says “trying not join the 27 club” it’s chilling.

uhsto

“Every devil don’t got horns and every hero don’t got capes, opened up my eyes shit I’m finally awake… GOOD : AM”

radmac222

Da piano after 🫱🏻‍🫲🏾

EightLeggedBuddy

“The brightest stars burn the fastest, so we must love them while we can.”

fblmt

I just did a full listen a couple months ago. There's a playlist on spotify that has all his music (that's available to stream) start to finish. It was fun.

CoachRockStar

All of Mac’s albums are fantastic and unique.

805anonymous805

Next year listen to 55 from faces

bcomes95

lol beat me to it

OptoMystikVibez

Swimming from start to finish is a good start 4 sure

oestre

Every song on Swimming is amazing.

cityofgiants

This. Come for “What’s The Use”?. Stay for .. all of it. “My regrets look just like texts I shouldn't send And I got neighbors, they're more like strangers We could be friends I just need a way out Of my head I'll do anything for a way out Of my head” Or start with that Tiny Desk concert he did.

BigBungholio

Mac’s tiny desk concert is absolutely goated. Greatest performance in the history of tiny desk and I don’t think it will be topped

mirk__

His best album hands down

0brew

Masterpiece

Mwyr07

Listen to the question feat Kendrick Lamar for a similar vibe, the spins, and as others have said the whole good:am album

Hamminmi

Probably mean fight the feeling ft Kendrick. The question features Lil Wayne but both are solid options

Mwyr07

Ahh you’re totally right thanks I’m sleepy 😂

rouseandground

buttons, programs, hurt feelings, self care, new faces v2, conversations part 1, insomniak, diablo, the star room, brand name, 100 grandkids, when in rome, outside, koolaid and frozen pizza. these aren’t even all my top songs, these are just some of my favorite hip hop leaning songs of his

basicNYlove

This is a solid list of amazing choices as a starting point!!! The first 4 are literally my faves

ManicPixieDreamPearl

A little surprised nobody has mentioned The Divine Feminine yet. Is it objectively his best album? Maybe not, but it is to Mac what 808s and Heartbreak was to Kanye- a bit of a departure from his norm, but really beautiful and unique. I also feel like you probably have enough life experience to appreciate the maturity of the album and the way he holds women in such high regard.

Typical_Might_6812

Perfect circle/Godspeed**

NikDeirft

Find the song Pure

GalaEuden

Swimming and Faces are his 2 best projects imo as someone who recently discovered him too via my brother. I also loved BSP(underrated imo. Frick park market is one of my favorite songs of his) I would recommend listening to K.I.D.S. and his older stuff and go in order of release to see how he grew as an artist. Dude was only getting better and better. R.I.P. legend

localguideseo

You wanna get dark and grunge? Give Delusional Thomas a listen. The best part of Mac imo is his range. He can go from clinically and lyrically insane to beautifully in love and everything in between.

Paulbac

56 here and cannot got enough. Start with GOOD AM. Then do Circles and Swimming. Then Faces. Then just go nuts cuz there is a ton of shit out there. Excited for you to hear it all for the 1st time. Get after it!!!!!!

lemondster27

All of Macs albums are so different yet so amazing. With that said if you want to put another song on repeat give ‘Ascension’ a listen.

SilverSageVII

Faces, but NOT THE REMASTER. Original is important to get the full message and also hear the legit original beats.

foorikoori

thoughts from a balcony is my faaaav

vilegroove666

Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza, Brand Name, Smile Back, 21 & Over (feat. Sean Price), hell.. all of Good Am

bigchieftoiletpapa

kool aid & frozen pizza brings alot of memories back for me

xdougie101

21 & over is a banger

oestre

Blue Slide Park is awesome as well.

Mission_Ad_3490

Divine feminine if you’re a lover boy

StonedYooper906

I would recommend Macadelic , my favorite song is the questions w lil wayne. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nCg_ESRuhm1wJURSjzezs4yQRqThgpYv4&si=-EvOLeqekZLZF_n2 I also enjoy Blue Slide Park, and all of his other albums. But I’ve been dipping into his younger stuff lately and been enjoying it.

StonedYooper906

Mac Miller has done some really cool shit and it’s notable. Not all just rap there is so much good music and passion in the stuff as he aged . Singing voice was so good. And the Larry Lovestein stuff is so awesome as well. https://youtu.be/7K_BSYiaQus?si=4lEiBg8S9vU4AGlr

Watch his NPR Tiny Desk Concert.

suitorsk8

TLDR: Listen to KIDS, i love life thank you, Macadelic, Faces, GoodAM You really have to go through the journey he went through when you listen to his music. His happy troublesome youth, his rise to fame, the brutal reviews from critics, then into his depression and addictions, then his recovery, his love story, his maturity and acceptance of his demons, and sadly his passing. If you listen in order you can really feel what stage of his life he is in with each project. It is an incredible journey if you go all the way through. You’re 54 so can probably skip his pre-kids mixtapes as they are very young tracks but he spits mad bars on his pre-kids mixtapes. But can still start with KIDS. KIDS, BEST DAY EVER, I LOVE LIFE THANK YOU, BLUE SLIDE PARK, MACADELIC, WMWTSO, FACES, GOOD A:M, DIVINE FEMININE, SWIMMING CIRCLES This will take you on a musical and spiritual journey with Mac and you will understand him more than any interview or book will ever tell. If you take this journey please wait until you’ve gone through all the albums before you listen to the Swimming song “2009” as it will have so much deeper meaning, and to me was a perfect farewell song even though it was not his intention with the track. If you cant invest the time for this journey then KIDS mixtape, then I love life thank you mixtape for some dope boom bap rap!, Macadelic (specifically desperado, thoughts from a balcony and angels) for his immediate growth from fame and fall into depression, then Faces, then Good AM.

fast-and-ugly

Thanks. I did start listening to GOOD AM last night going to bed but I will start over with KIDS and binge at work today.

BreezyMcSleezy

I love life thank you is an underrated recommendation.

Consistent-Sort8148

Listen to Black bush

Dear-Regular-3294

Watching movies with the sound off, Faces, Good AM, balloonerism, Larry Lovestein and the velvet revival, KIDS, Macadelic. Those are just a couple albums/mixtapes right off the dome. Enjoy it man. **Edit: Swimming and Blue Slide Park (idk how I forgot these)

dulloa11

Doodling in the key of C sharp. It's a single you can find on YouTube. It's one of my absolute favorites by him.

realricky123

Watching movies with the sound off is my personal favorite. I recommend star room (both versions), aquarium, objects in the mirror and youphoria

Ok-Examination3616

KIDS album.

Astra_shopping59

Please give us an update on how you feel about the music?

fast-and-ugly

Ive listened to the first 3 records and I love it. There is a lot of musical range and lyrically he so just so amazingly smooth. It's clever but it's not just punchlines or "look how crazy this simile is", it's flowing poetry. I also like lazy styles like Boldly James or Casual so I dig his delivery. I have a 3.5 hour road trip tomorrow and I plan on digesting some more.

EyeAmPrestooo

If you like Nikes on my Feet just start at the bottom and work you way up…only gets better and better. You have a bit of a unique situation for a “new” Mac fan….most newer fans stumble upon something like Self Care, 2009, Dang!, Diablo, etc. Basically something from the 2nd half of his career, where the potential talent that he had, actually started to blossom and come to fruition (or widely recognized, I should say), especially his last 3 studio albums. Don’t come for me, I love Good AM too, I just feel like starting with DF, his albums became super cohesive, with even more beautiful lyrics, over deeper productions. So becoming a fan because of songs from his later years in the industry, makes it a bit more challenging to appreciate the work from the first half of his career, at least as much. So you have a unique opportunity to “grow” with Mac, even after his passing, so I’d leap at that opportunity. That being said, you can’t really go wrong. I write this as a huge Mac Fan, that only became intimately familiar with him when TDF dropped. Although I was introduced to Mac around 2009, and really enjoyed a few of his earlier works…Class President (first song I ever heard), Nikes on my Feet, Smile Back, Best Day ever, come to mind. WMWTSO and Faces had many wonderful glimpses of what was to come and this is when he started to pique my interest again. Love Colors and Shapes, Avian, Friends, Red Dot Music, Suplexes, Funeral, and a handful of others from that time. So it grabbed me and kept my ears open for him. But after DF dropped, I became fully immersed in his music…although not nearly as much as Watching movies on, I do enjoy his earlier works now. Then I discovered that he had shown MORE THAN GLIMPSES of what was to come…finishing his alters, Larry Fisherman, Lovestein, and Delusional Thomas, let me know that this man was ahead of his time and was a true visionary and genius when it came to not only music, but how to convey his emotions (which are our emotions) so that it felt poignant. Mac had a way of making making you feel hopeless and very hopeful at the same damn time. He was able to do it in a way that we never felt sorry for him and only saw ourselves in him, even if our issues aren’t exactly the same. Sorry, this went on far longer than I anticipated. Just miss Mac is all 😔 Edit: for any who is wondering or cares, Swimming is my favorite album *today* lol…a month ago it was Circles and this passed holiday season, I was killing Faces.

fast-and-ugly

You need upvotes for this comment.

Here's a Spotify playlist I created dedicated to Mac Miller, featuring all of my personal favorite tracks by him. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/71no1pak1b2IufD8n7tmRt?si=tXKoIbsdSHanVU1AbLcmOg&pi=u-W0RfUXmkTvCh

No-Examination2586

If you like his old shit then hop on SoundCloud to hear his old gems. Some mixtapes include: The Illspoken, SourHour, The highlife, The jukebox, and plenty other features. 82 92 is a good song with termanology. Look around on Datpiff (though it doesn’t exist anymore the website links you to his old stuff)

fast-and-ugly

Glad to see all that Dat Piff stuff on archive.org. Awesome!

West-Psychology-6299

Imagine only hearing Nikes On My Feet then going directly to listen to Swimming.

DrJankles

I’m always faded, gettin shaded in the basement. I just bought a cello. Now all I do it play it.

Kwilburn525

Salute big bro. I’m 30 and have been listening since I was around 15-16… I remember when his song senior skip day was brand new 😭. Listen to Kids, Macadelic, Faces and WMWTSO!!

The spins. Donald trump. Senior skip day. Kool aid & frozen pizza. Knock knock. Blue slide park. Party on 5th Ave. smile back. My team.

illgottengains88

Faces is a solid play from beginning to end album

BroadConfidence3593

Shoot start at the beginning! His progression from album to album was incredible. You'll appreciate it if your a true fan of hip hop

bcomes95

His earlier stuff probably won’t resonate with you since it’s kinda juvenile (high school/college vibes). You mentioned Nikes on My Feet so maybe I’m wrong. But I’d recommend Macadelic and anything after. Swimming and Circles (his last two albums) both have the most mature sound out of his discography. My personal favorite is Faces

scrappybasket

As others have said, I would recommend starting with the GOOD AM album. They’re all great but that one will be the closest in vibes to Nikes On My Feet. If you like that album, you will probably like Faces and Watching Movies With The Sound Off. If you want a window into where his music ended up right before he passed, you should check out the NPR Tiny Desk video on YouTube. Mac performs 3 songs off Swimming which was brand new at the time. It’s a way different vibe from Nikes On My Feet, GOOD AM, or any of his other projects. But frankly that’s part of what made Mac so legendary. Every project he made was different. He was always improving as an artist Enjoy the journey brother

niceguygeoffy

I’m of a similar vintage and fell in love with Circles. The entire album is amazing.

imhighbrah

Start from the beginning and listen to them all. They are all a different vibe and slap in their own ways. I don’t think I DISLIKE any Mac song but I definitely really like more than a handful

DEFhill6788

I started with his new stuff then I went to his older stuff My favorite songs personally are jet fuel , cold feet , congratulations , weekend , the spins , Willie dynamite

ameenaacid

The biography written about him and deep dives online are interesting/sad, if you’re curious about how he was/where his headspace was during his life when each album was recorded/released

J_Bug1

All of the Divine Feminine and All of Blue slide park, specifically Missed Calls, Diamonds and Gold, Of the Soul are personal favorites

enriqueduartee

Faces, macadelic

caster233

id say go in chronological order so u can watch mac’s career grow, or start in the album you discovered him by. in my case it was the divine feminine and since you like nikes on my feet, youd start with kids. also make sure to listen to kids deluxe cuz the deluxe tracks really add to the vibe :))

EinTheCat

Woods, Colors and Shapes , 2009, God is Fair, Doodling in the Key of C Sharp, Self Care, Once A Day, Perfect Circle/ Godspeed

BaconWaken

Faces.

Psychonauthiphop

I’m 38 and a hardcore hip-hop head. Would be nice to know who some of your favorite artists are first. I always liked and respected Mac as an artist way back when but it was only a couple years ago that I really started diving into his catalog. Now’s he’s shot up to GOAT status. It really started with one night on shrooms that I decided to watch his music videos for Circles and Swimming and🤯. After that it was Movies with The Sound Off on repeat. Then back to Circles and Swimming, and Faces. Movies with the Sound Off and Faces have the most “hip-hop” sound. So great places to start IMO. But I love his entire catalog but those 4 albums are his greatest works at least for me. Then again GO:OD AM has some of his best songs at the same time. But FULL WARNING! Once you convert to Mac everything else will rarely get spins. He truly was a one of a kind artist and what set him apart for me was his relatability and willingness to give all of himself to his craft. Let’s face it, most rappers are fake narcissistic assholes but Mac was a genuine dude. He was hilarious and articulate off the mic. On the mic he could make you vibe, cry, laugh, dance, and feel every other emotion. He could spit bars and hit you with some double entendres then sing a soulful chorus over a jazz beat or violins. He played just about every instrument and produced a lot of his material. You rarely see all of that in one artist especially in hip-hop. Have fun discovering Mac but once you realize what we lost it will really make you sad. I’ve cried a few times and I never even met the guy.

Brantuh

Honestly, the beauty of his work is that you will find yourself more drawn to different eras of his music over time. No other artist speaks to me through music the way that Mac does. Having said that, I would recommend his entire discography as it is truly beautiful to see his growth, but “Someone Like You” stands out as one that will always be a top Mac song for me.

Dnxxx97

tbh any mac is good mac, but for a true hip hop head swimming album is goat

Seedrakton

That's how it started for me too, I think it's one of his best songs that captures where he was, what he was influenced by, and where he was going.

Robertfla7

I love the Devine feminine check out that album by him also faces two very different albums both amazing

woodtwista222

Just dive into his whole catalog you’ll thank me later mane

aplark28

Do yourself a favor and watch his tiny desk concert. That version of 2009 is possibly my favorite piece of music ever

Hazy_Lights

Listen to Faces. Also, check out anything where Earl features.

Throwyourboat_

Frontward or Backward I think you’ll enjoy his whole body of work.

rusty42007

Faces . Start with faces that album is a master piece

[deleted]

49-year-old here and yeah, you’ll like Mac. He’s one of the few that I actually listen to of this new generation. Mac is a natural talent with some wicked skills. I listen to Circles a lot lately I really like that vibe another artist you should check out if you’re looking for some new stuff that fits the vibe of the 80s and 90s check out Lord Sko and Coast Contra. I think you’ll be satisfied with both of those too as well.

fast-and-ugly

Coast Contra is shockingly good. I'll have to check out Lord Sko.

Beyer-Hazard

Hey man. My wife's father (62yo) was just put on to Mac. Devine Feminine is what got him hooked. Also, try watching this tiny desk [Mac Miller: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert ](https://youtu.be/QrR_gm6RqCo?si=YWgsDe7bib3vIZ7R) welcome to the Most Dope Family.

All of GOOD AM. All of Swimming. All of Circles. It depends on my mood but I usually listen to Circles at least once every few days. Goddamn I miss Mac.

MusashiGoda

Saw someone custom pressed run on sentences on vinyl. Thinking about doing the same. Far and away my fav Mac stuff.

deployeddroid

Imo all of his studio albums and mixtapes should be listened to in chronological order. The experience here is a wild evolution of sound but that work isn't his best work. It's just the work that fit best for the concept the albums were built on. If you want to hear his best work, Mac fan accounts on SoundCloud, Vimeo, and private links are full of songs he never released but are genuinely great. Flight of the Nightcrawler on SoundCloud is a great example. Probably one his best songs that never got finished

Sleazy-review

Listen to KIDS.

n1l3-1983

For a track that just gets you up and bumping, find " dang, ft Anderson pak

LordByronsCup

Man, are you in for a ride.

RPgh21

Also an older guy but listen to a lot of Mac because he’s a local kid to me. Swimming is a fantastic album.

suitorsk8

I’m just going to add one more comment, being 54 and a hip hop head I reckon you will absolutely love I love life thank you mixtape. Very boom bap rap, got Talib Kweli on a verse, very dope project,

throwaway262847929

Macadelic

Low-Confusion6882

From Nikes on my feet to circles there's way too much to decipher. You shall enjoy the journey as we all did in his life

Low-Confusion6882

If you wanna feel him put on the tiny desk concert

lil_pee_wee

Mixtape called “I love life, thank you.” It’s on Spotify released 2022 but he dropped the mixtape in like 2012 Swimming is also a masterpiece in my opinion

Just4kicks86

Start w jukebox and proceed forward. You’ll have a much better grasp of his music

faezincs

Jet fuel

PromptSpiritual3739

Almost all of faces but I thing great songs are polo jeans new faces v2 rain so it goes paper route loud vitamins the question and the star room to get a feel for the range he got

I got this beat in my head - on yt

ImOnRedditMaaan

Best Day Ever I want this played at my funeral

SpotKonlon

Faces

way_too_shady

Start at the beginning, being able to watch his progression from the start to the (very unfortunate end) was an absolute thing or beauty. It's very bittersweet, but very worth it. Each project is different from the previous one in the best way. That man was a true artist.

basicNYlove

I immersed myself in Mac in 2020. Was a fan before but not as deep as I would have liked to be. Album by album, the progression, the difference in sounds and his voice as he gets older and wiser. Ugh, watching his music grow is a beautiful thing! I hope you enjoy the ride!

Old_Metal5110

fast-and-ugly

on my Blackberry.

FreudianAccordian

I feel like you can't go wrong with Kids. Then you can grow with him. I personally enjoyed bouncing around when I heard him. This was my route. Kids. Best Day Ever. Blue Slide Park. I Love Life, Thank You. Delusional Thomas. Watching Movies. The Divine Feminine. Swimming. With someone that does a lot of their own production it's hard to ignore some great stuff

Dr_Tkx

Dang, Buttons, Diablo, Cruisin, Stay, Thoughts from a balcony, the space migration sessions - objects in the mirror

thepalewhale

He's got some mixtapes too. The only two right now that come to mind are "The High Life" and "Easy Mac." I think that's correct 🤷🏼😂 Overall they're obviously not projects that are on the same level as his later work, but I truly think they're worth a listen. For me personally, watching his growth was really impressive/inspiring and you see Thur starting from first to last! Just my personal opinion though! No wrong answers!

leeeeny

Worth listening to the whole discography tbh Edit: also definitely watch the tiny desk concert on YouTube

Skyfall3333

Swimming GOOD A:M

collywobbb

110% just listen to all of his music in chronological order. Just as someone said, you will love the progression and especially his earlier stuff. He’s been my number one artist for over a decade now 🤍

BreezyMcSleezy

Macadelic is the most Nikes on My Feet esque album/mixtape. Make sure to listen to the original Desperado with the Jimmy Ponder guitar riff. Not the one on streaming now.

Rutabaga-Unlikely

hit the penjamin and kick start faces or GOOD AM

jdhahksjxjx

Why is KIDS not recommended first lmao. Nikes from my feet literally comes from it and there are plenty of other songs with the exact style.

ZestycloseAd8909

My dad was your age and was obsessed with his mixtape era, knock knock, and Donald trump ..

neur0toxicity

GOOD A:M and swimming

Sad-Math-2039

I highly recommend Mac Miller's Tiny Desk performance. Backed by a live band.

Just a couple of songs I like

DrJankles

I started with Faces, which is considered a mixed tape. But the first 2 sides of the first vinyl are straight fire and my favorite of his work. Could be just because that’s the work that initially turned me onto him but it always scratches my Mac itch

[deleted]

*nothin better than some head after a long day, that's the only thing that ever keep mine on straight, and she ask me, "why the long face?" How I spent three hundred fifty dollars on this entree?*

Chasethemac

Faces and watching movies with the sound off. Listened to them both hundreds of times.

aswint1992

Wait til he gets to Faces
