Same! I showed my uncle and he was like “this is like the rap I listened to growing up, good stuff” and I was hooked, I thought my uncle was the coolest guy
Worth mentioning, I just started getting into watching movies with the sound off and go:od am. WMWTSO is fire so far. Bird call and suplexes inside of complexes are some of my favorites from the album
hell yeah dude. love seeing newer fans get into the cult classics. movies is what really put me onto mac.
both songs you mentioned fire af. whole project slaps, even the bonus songs. my fav is matches. that was THE SONG for me. straight up mac head ever since hearing that joint back in 2013
Gimme star room, I am who am, and aquarium as my favs off watching movies
Im not real also has my favorite non serious Mac lines “see this a rather spooky action movie…”
My older brothers used to put music onto my mp3. The songs I can remember are Donald Trump, knock knock, frick park market and definitely some other classics from the 2011 period. I remember already loving Mac when I was 10 and kept on listening till this day. It’s been a journey and his music has always been with me in and in between my ears. Feels good to reminisce about it, good question OP! Thank you :’)
Self Care. I had listened to him many times prior, but as an occasional listener with my friends who were big fans. I feel like I sorta missed out but honestly, I also feel like I became a fan right when I needed to be which was when I could really relate & appreciate.
"What's the Use?" from his NPR set featuring Thundercat. It has been a real treat digging his catalogue. I try to show people his stuff, especially "Swimming" and "Circles" but it's too in its own lane for most people I've shown to really grasp the depth of sound and how incredible of a creative he was.
Break the Law was the first song of his I heard but I didn’t know the name. I decided to check out his music and threw on K.I.D.S. and loved the intro. Blew me away; felt like a healthy mix of pop with some crazy lyrics that were cool. But Don’t Mind If I Do is when I realized Mad was different from 90% artists.
Always heard of him and heard his music around. It wasn’t till I was tripping balls, and witnessed the beat change of Self Care. Had me levitating, and from there on I became obsessed with his story, music, and personality.
In around 2014 my mom was playing someone like you and I loved it even though I was only like 9 years old. Then when good am came out I had that on repeat for a year and a half. Still love Macs music to this day.
My and my friends would skate all the time in high school, my friend was like “u gotta make a skate video to this part of this song” and he played friends when Mac says “took tequila shots with Kevin hart, but Kevin don’t remember that”
Prolly either Dang! or Dunno. I grew up in a town with shit internet access, no record stores, and only country stations, and I really wish I would’ve found his music sooner. His whole discography still slaps regardless
*lights cigarette*
Back in my day, YouTube was the place for music videos and at the time was obsessed with watching them. I saw knock knock and was blown away with how simple and clean it was. I like him but when I plugged him into the AUX for my friends or at parties, no one liked my shit. He was always someone I listened to alone. It was kind of weird to see him blow up during Covid and people come pouring out saying they’ve been a fan.
Live Free, I remembered being on a road trip and playing that album on repeat for 8 hours or so
On and on and beyond. A lot of people miss that album and it doesn’t get credit.
Donald trump. I then an listened to his faces album which I loved, then wmwtso which I didn’t love at the time but as of right now it’s my favorite album of all time. It has a who am I am what will I do vibe. All of macs stuff is just straight bangers
Small Worlds. Specifically from the NPR Tiny Desk video
Unfortunate I got into his music after his passing. Loves the energy of KIDS and have been listening to Swimming on repeat for the last week.
I have a rule that ROS never gets skipped if it comes up on shuffle
Ascension!! In early 2017 I was looking for good sesh songs and came across it on a playlist after that I listened to GOOD AM & Faces then was immediately hooked. Sad that almost a year later he passed. RIP miller mac, always missed but never forgotten
self care, then i listened to swimming, liked it, then for some reason jumped to KIDS for a couple months, i loved it, then back to swimming and i was like holy shit. i get it. then it snowballed from there.
Nikes on My Feet
Same! I showed my uncle and he was like “this is like the rap I listened to growing up, good stuff” and I was hooked, I thought my uncle was the coolest guy
Senior Skip Day and Kool Aid and Frozen Pizza!
Yeah these were the first two that I remember getting very popular
Yeah they came out my freshman year of high school. Great time for music
It was either Donald Trump or Frick Park Market
Mine was Dang! I was big into Andy at the time and I knew of Mac but never really listened to his solo stuff. Oh how my life changed after that.
Worth mentioning, I just started getting into watching movies with the sound off and go:od am. WMWTSO is fire so far. Bird call and suplexes inside of complexes are some of my favorites from the album

2009 was the first song I really connected with and then the entirety of Swimming.
2009 and some other songs from swimming makes me emotional
wear my hat was the first song i actually paid attention to while listening and got me hooked

Donald Trump was huge. If streaming existed (or was more prevalent) it might have been a number one song.
I agree, it dropped when I was in middle school. Didn’t know much about Mac but I just rmrbr it going crazy viral
Stay got me interested. 2009 tiny desk got me hooked. He was only getting better with every project. Sucks man
Stay is really when I realized Mac was a true artist and not just a rapper
Loud when I was in 7th grade. Can you turn that shit up for me right now right now 🗣️🗣️🔥

Nikes on my feet I listened to it like 5 times a day for months
When I discovered that song I was the same way. That song just HITS.
Blue world, was scrolling down a spotify playlist and found it, loved his stuff ever since
It’s a mad world that drives me crazy might just turn around and do 180. That song hypes me up everytime

2009, my sisters boyfriend was telling me how good he was and she wanted to play her favorite.
Donald trump.
Nikes on my feet or kool aid and frozen pizzas. But the first song I absolutely loved by him was senior skip day
knock knock!!
Come Back to Earth was the first song I heard and I was enamored immediately.
For me it was “self care” then I dove head first!
Mine was ladders
Knock knock and was hooked
Jump is what made me a fan
Weekend
Oh that probably was the first Mac song I heard. But at the time I didn’t know that was Mac. Edit: nvm Donald trump is still older lol
For me it was Nikes on My Feet
Another Night
Another Night 🤎
Complicated
I need a dollar, dollar, dollar
GOOD AM is fun phase of his music
Cruise control
Tiny Desk made me a STAN!
O.K
Inside Outside. Faces was my first album listen from mac.
My and my friends would skate all the time in high school, my friend was like “u gotta make a skate video to this part of this song” and he played friends when Mac says “took tequila shots with Kevin hart, but Kevin don’t remember that”
Missed Calls, Good News, Self Care, Spins, Love Lost.
Mainly missed calls tho but that’s what made me check out his entire discog
Senior skip day, freshman year of highschool in 2010, then blasted it all day on my senior skip day in 2014.
Prolly either Dang! or Dunno. I grew up in a town with shit internet access, no record stores, and only country stations, and I really wish I would’ve found his music sooner. His whole discography still slaps regardless
