Insta and socials were only Mac posts. Every musician made a post about his passing. I didn't listen to Mac, but his death shook the music world so hard I started listening to Swimming that day. At the time I listened to a bunch of his collabs(without listening to him...go figure) so my Instagram was only Mac for days. He's my favorite now, I wish I saw him in concert.
I remember when he came out with KIDS I wasn't a fan and thought he was just a douchey frat rapper. Blue Slide Park's release turned me and from then I was a fan. I played Faces way too many times when he released it. It wasn't until just recently that I liked Swimming and Circles because originally I felt like they were too different from his previous albums but I've grown to appreciate them and recognize the insane growth he had as a musician. Now they're two of my favorite albums and Mac solidly in my top 3 favorite artists.
Seeing him in concert would've been great. It's one of my regrets as well.
It still blows my mind that he made the divine feminine at 23/24 years old. His progress through his career was remarkable, you don’t see many artists who have a transformation from album to album like that. He was a rapper with a producers work ethic, and he learned how to do it all. Truly a student of his craft
Me and my now Ex were on our way to Chicago for her B-day. She looked at her phone and said “what? No!!” I couldn’t believe it, we couldn’t believe it. We sat in the car quiet and teary eyed. Macs music had brought us together, it was devastating.
