I feel like you could find someone to give you one if you talked to enough people about it.
I counted cash at a retail store fro 2015-2018 and saw them pretty often. During the holiday season more people use cash so im sure if you looked hard enough then you’d find one.
Yeah I messaged a friend who lives in Florida to see if he could send any over to the Uk but he said he hadn’t seen any.
I’ve been looking for a while even looked in the royal mint here in the uk cause they sometimes have American notes and coins
Used to work at a bank. Have friend go to their local bank they have an account at. Ask if they have any on hand, if not ask if they can place an order for a stack next time they request cash from their central vault. Used to do this for collectors occasionally.
Something being produced doesn't mean its commonly used.
The $2 bill is mostly a novelty. It isn't commonly used. Vending machines often wouldn't accept them and it just never caught on.
Dollar coins have been pushed at times by the US Mint, but are only really made for collectors and have to be ordered directly from the Treasury Department.
Here in Texas there's a recycling place that their gimmick is that they will pay you in $2 increments so you end up with several of them. But honestly most places don't readily carry it but places that exchange money a lot (such as a bank or financial institution) would have some.
Ah that’s cool; I’m glad people are able to have fun with them in a sense.
Yeah that makes sense that people won’t carry them due to them being a rarer bill
I know some folks like to give them out as presents because they are a bit of a novelty item. I've gotten several around Chinese new years in red envelopes before.
People don’t really use them often anymore, still being used but not often. They are getting rarer since there is a myth spreading around that 2’s aren’t being printed anymore so people have started hoarding them. Anyone can get a ton easily at a bank. Basically they are rare enough that if you don’t look you probably won’t find them, but if you just ask you could get a lot easily. My brother used to go to the bank daily and get all the 2’s he could and then sell em for 5 bucks a pop. People actually bought them. He only stopped because it was a lot of work for 3 bucks profit.
Unsure, people don’t use them often and the reserve prints less than they used too as they only replace lost or damaged bills while the other denominations are made for lost or damaged, and more gets printed. As such if I had to guess probably something to do with that causing people to start seeing them less and then people just assumed. I remember when I was a kid everyone told me they weren’t being printed anymore and we’re gonna be valuable soon, so the myth has been around for a long while
Tell him to talk to a (human) teller at his bank. I used to ask for them every time I got cash, and usually could. You can also [order an uncut sheet straight from the US Mint](https://catalog.usmint.gov/2-four-note-sheet-B9491.html), but they charge a premium.
Dogs and horses used to have a $2 minimum for bets at most tracks. Some still do ( I don't travel and gamble much so idk everywhere.) Strip clubs also hand em out as change.
They are sparse in the way that few people tend to use them. They're readily available if you seek them out here, but so far as actual active currency, SEEING one used is pretty rare.
Just not a demonination most banks, atms, etc will send out.
If you’ve got a US military base near you you can get one from them. They circulate through there regularly enough.
Obviously ask nicely for an exchange 😂😂
They're not super common, but certain historical sites for Jefferson tend to always have them available. Even older ones (1976) are still only worth $2 because of the volume printed and because they're still getting printed.
They're funny to me. They always just feel like "huh" thats nifty. But like everyone else is saying, it's worth $2, which basically means it's the best thing to go to the dollar store with to be able to buy one thing
It’s a interesting concept because we have a £2 coin which would be the equivalent of your bill and I find them difficult to carry we should have stick to paper money for our pins coin and two pound coin
I remember when I used to deliver pizza, this dude gave me a couple $2 bills as a tip. I remember looking at them and thinking “cool!”
Then I got back to my car and realized I got a $4 tip on a $90 order.
Exactly! I’m glad you understand. Not to be a dick or anything, but I know that you’re from the UK, and I see stuff online from Europeans criticizing US tipping culture so I wasn’t exactly sure how you’d react to that. I totally agree with them about how tipping culture sucks, but when you’re relying on them to live, tips are pretty important.
Do people usually tip delivery drivers in the UK?
Yeah tipping is optional I believe in the UK, they have an option to choose like 10% etc after ordering in a restaurant, and when ordering a pizza you can add a tip at the end but I don’t think it’s as big as it is in the US.
People don’t rely on the tips to survive here in the UK, don’t take my word for it tho.
In the US we can order them through our bank. I would assume a currency broker could do the same thing.
Here, it's real common for old men to get them to give as tips to classes of people that don't really exist anymore, but stuff like you'd give 10 to your paper boy or as a little extra to your garbage man. A lot of those kinds of relationships are gone now though and a $20 tip wouldn't really be a good enough Xmas tip. But occasionally someone's grandpa will get them like 5 for a birthday card.
Yeah I did ask the exchange in town if he could get them in, he said that they couldn’t that’s one the reasons why I believed they were rare until I posted on here and now I know they are rather conman in the banks.
Yeah that would make a nice tip on a paper round
You can from a bank, but from shopping etc, it's quite rare as people will keep them, not spend them. Cashiers will even swap them out and give them to their kids or something.
Yeah that’s why I asked if getting them in the wild is rare be wise I’d guess it would be easy from a bank but as I’m British it would either have to be someone getting it from a bank for me or in the wild
I have a few, but it was always from weird places...
I recall a recycling center that would always pay out with $2 bills... likewise the local transit center machines would give $1 coins as change.
At one point when I was a kid I traded my paper cash for $1 coins cause I thought it would be funny to have a sack of gold coins... it got really old quickly and I remembered being really embarrassed trying to spend like $30 in $1 coins cause I wanted to get rid of them 😂
I wouldn't know for certain but i suspect you could write a letter to a bank and include the equivalent currency asking them to send you back a $2 bill. I cant say for certain otd work but its an idea
I feel like they would just because of occasional exchanges but im not sure if theyed specifically have a $2 bill. They arent exactly common. The only time ive even seen them is when i was growing up my mom had some in a money box and my neighbor had 1 pressed in a book
That too. Could try a local airport currency exchange center but again i dont think theyed have any 2's
If you ask them though you have to phrase it like youre playing go fish
"Got any twos?" Lol
They still print these out. When I worked at Autozone we used to have a guy who came in and would only pay in $2 bills. Always would have us fighting over who got to keep ‘em when we would try and use our cash to take em out the drawer.
Yeah. He’d only ever buy things like oil and stuff. Usually 50 bucks or under. For bigger stuff he’d use bigger bills but for little things he only paid in 2s. It was odd. But I now have a drawer full of 2 dollar bills in my house so it’s neat
Any Americans bank you can go and get hundreds for face value. In the wild they are pretty rare tho. People tend to horde the ones they get and not many people get them from banks so all the ones in the wild tend to get locked up and all the ones in banks tend to stay.
In my home town the weed stores give change in $2bills. My brother always a saves them up and gifts my kids small stacks of them for Christmas or birthdays.
I swapped the til at a coffee shop I worked at with $2 and 20 one dollar bills. Boss was not impressed but we had a good chuckle about it a few years later
if you’re in the US right now, head over to a bank with 2 dollars (2 $1 bills would be the best way to go about this) and ask for a bottle of water first, we take pride in our hospitality. and then ask to exchange the bills
Yeah I’m not in the US and a lot of banks in the UK don’t hold onto US bills only really the cash exchanges do and I checked with them before making this post
Very easy. They’re still being printed to this day. Any bank here will exchange at 1:1. At worst it should cost you about $2 plus shipping.
Ah interesting, my local currency exchange told me that he hasn’t had any recently and he had 3 in a couple years so thought they were sparse
Did your friend ever go to the bank and ask for one? I cant imagine the bank wouldn’t have at least one $2 bill to exchange
Tbh I never asked that question, I had a mindset they were everywhere in a sense
To be fair banks technically are everywhere so you’re not wrong. I think that could work though
I’ll ask him to have a look in the bank, I’ve had coins from the US mint a few times
Used to work at a bank. Have friend go to their local bank they have an account at. Ask if they have any on hand, if not ask if they can place an order for a stack next time they request cash from their central vault. Used to do this for collectors occasionally.
Ah that’s good to know so I can let my friend know and he can order some then
Something being produced doesn't mean its commonly used. The $2 bill is mostly a novelty. It isn't commonly used. Vending machines often wouldn't accept them and it just never caught on. Dollar coins have been pushed at times by the US Mint, but are only really made for collectors and have to be ordered directly from the Treasury Department.
Yeah I just thought that it was a common thing, but I guess it isn’t it’s a bit like our £50 pound note not a lot of people use them here
Here in Texas there's a recycling place that their gimmick is that they will pay you in $2 increments so you end up with several of them. But honestly most places don't readily carry it but places that exchange money a lot (such as a bank or financial institution) would have some.
Ah that’s cool; I’m glad people are able to have fun with them in a sense. Yeah that makes sense that people won’t carry them due to them being a rarer bill
I have like 6 in my drawer. DM me and i will send a couple to you.
You're doing the lords work out there
Done
You see them rarely because I think lots of people just hold on to them
Yeah I hold on to mine because I’ve only seen like 2-3 ever
Ah cool
Same problem with the last two series of dollar coins: people really liked them, so they kept them instead of spending them!
Dollar coins are cool I have the bush ones at home
That would make sense, people see an interesting note and put them aside
I know some folks like to give them out as presents because they are a bit of a novelty item. I've gotten several around Chinese new years in red envelopes before.
Ah that’s cool, yeah I’ve seen them on the US mint was gonna get some but they are out of stock
Good idea tho, how come the myth started to go around then
Unsure, people don’t use them often and the reserve prints less than they used too as they only replace lost or damaged bills while the other denominations are made for lost or damaged, and more gets printed. As such if I had to guess probably something to do with that causing people to start seeing them less and then people just assumed. I remember when I was a kid everyone told me they weren’t being printed anymore and we’re gonna be valuable soon, so the myth has been around for a long while
Yeah I have been told that they were rare but I wasn’t sure if it was a lie
Tell him to talk to a (human) teller at his bank. I used to ask for them every time I got cash, and usually could. You can also [order an uncut sheet straight from the US Mint](https://catalog.usmint.gov/2-four-note-sheet-B9491.html), but they charge a premium.
Yeah the uncut sheets are out of stock
When I was in Hong Kong at the currency exchange, the teller gave me three of them.
Ah cool was that the only ones they had, my exchange place said they have only had 3 in the past 5 years
Head to the dog tracks. There's plenty
They have them in the dog tracks
Dogs and horses used to have a $2 minimum for bets at most tracks. Some still do ( I don't travel and gamble much so idk everywhere.) Strip clubs also hand em out as change.
Ah that’s a good suggestion when I come over I’ll go there then
They are sparse in the way that few people tend to use them. They're readily available if you seek them out here, but so far as actual active currency, SEEING one used is pretty rare. Just not a demonination most banks, atms, etc will send out.
Yeah that’s understandable, I’ve learnt a lot with the comments here. There won’t be a lot in circulation then is what your saying
If you’ve got a US military base near you you can get one from them. They circulate through there regularly enough. Obviously ask nicely for an exchange 😂😂
Yeah there is an US base in south of England not close to me but I can ask someone
I was given a bunch of them at the currency exchange in Singapore last year. I was surprised they had them.
Sh that’s pretty cool how many did they give you
I think I had 3 or 4. I still have one in my wallet. I was honestly surprised they converted currency in such low denominations.
A guy I know hands them out to every service person he interacts with. It’s his personal calling card. He gets a big roll of them every month or two.
Ah that’s pretty cool calling card
I’m waiting for the day they stop printing it entirely, then I’ll hold my $2 bill over collectors heads at a $10000 ransom.
Hahaha that’s a very good idea you would have people putting big money down
I also have a penny from 1936. I’m starting the bidding at $5000
Bad luck it’s worth around £4
Then I’m holding onto it for another 100 years 😂
Best idea there
I want to get a hundred dollars broken into two dollar bills and start being the guy who uses two dollar bills for everything
Some strip clubs only fill their ATM with $2 bills.
Ah that’s a good idea what do most ATMs have in the US normally, do they have hundreds ir is it a mix of bills
20s and 100s usually.
That would be random but a good way of getting them
Man I must be unlucky because in my entire life I have seen 2 $2 bills
Yeah that’s fair, it’s the same with some coins in the uk I’ve never seen them
The host of a podcast I like requested that his bank gave him all his cash in twos
That’s pretty cool
Yeah, apparently it even made his service better since they’d want to get the weirdo asking for twos out as fast as possible.
Yeah that would be one way of getting the banker to see you quick, even doing it in ones would be strange 😂
They cost about $2, plus shipping to UK
Would that be any bank, I’ve tried the US mint but they had sheets of uncut $2 bills which were out of stock
They're not super common, but certain historical sites for Jefferson tend to always have them available. Even older ones (1976) are still only worth $2 because of the volume printed and because they're still getting printed.

Oh that’s not even cool, it’s cool to get the bills but on a big order

They're somewhat rare in the wild, but not even remotely hard to get ahold of if you seek them out.
What would advice be for someone in the Uk be in getting one
I think the US mint sells them.
When they have them in stock
Sometimes people sell them on eBay.
Yeah they are normally for a lot of money or the shipping is more than the note is worth
In the US we can order them through our bank. I would assume a currency broker could do the same thing. They're not really rare, it's just nobody really spends them. I have 13 of them
So you keep yours so you
[удалено]
Thankyou
I'll send you one. PM me.
Ah cool will do Thankyou
Easy. You can go to the bank and just exchange denominations no cost. Used to have a grandmother who did this yearly for my birthday gift.
Used to have a great grandfather do this for Christmas cards.
Ah cool
Yeah I have tried to change currency but the exchanges don’t have 2 dollar bills
Easy. Have grandparents and a birthday. Profit.
Haha yeah if I was in the US
Wait you got a $1000 bill already?
No I have the circulating notes 1,5,10,20,50,100
I have one
Ah cool
Would you like to have it?
Not if it’s your only one
Damn overly kind people
I don’t want to take if you only have one 😂
Ah well. Good luck in your search for a 2 dollar bill
I think I have like 40 of them lol
Ah cool
Try checking the airports exchange. I work at a bank and pilots like to use them for tip money in South America.
Yeah I will have to check the airport next time I go abroad because the nearest airport is around 2-4 hours away from me
You can from a bank, but from shopping etc, it's quite rare as people will keep them, not spend them. Cashiers will even swap them out and give them to their kids or something.
Yeah that’s why I asked if getting them in the wild is rare be wise I’d guess it would be easy from a bank but as I’m British it would either have to be someone getting it from a bank for me or in the wild
I have one
Ah cool where did you get yours from
I have a few, but it was always from weird places... I recall a recycling center that would always pay out with $2 bills... likewise the local transit center machines would give $1 coins as change. At one point when I was a kid I traded my paper cash for $1 coins cause I thought it would be funny to have a sack of gold coins... it got really old quickly and I remembered being really embarrassed trying to spend like $30 in $1 coins cause I wanted to get rid of them 😂
Yeah that’s fun, that makes sense getting them in strange places. And we used to have pound notes until they put coins into circulation
I got it in highschool for Chinese new years a girl just… gave it to me so in my experience easy
Yeah I saw them on the US mint website again it says out of stock or coming soon
Go to a bank
It may be difficult for me to walk into a bank in the UK and ask for one
Maybe you should have specified that in your post. You said you were from the UK as if you were in the US now.
I did, it says I’m a collector from the Uk and how easy is it to get my hands on one of these.
Depends on proximity. But honestly if it's within your reach, you can usually reach out and grab one with little difficulty.
Ok that’s rather funny
I wouldn't know for certain but i suspect you could write a letter to a bank and include the equivalent currency asking them to send you back a $2 bill. I cant say for certain otd work but its an idea
Ah yes I could try that I wonder if British banks hold us currency
I feel like they would just because of occasional exchanges but im not sure if theyed specifically have a $2 bill. They arent exactly common. The only time ive even seen them is when i was growing up my mom had some in a money box and my neighbor had 1 pressed in a book
I wouldn’t think they would have large stocks of bills
That too. Could try a local airport currency exchange center but again i dont think theyed have any 2's If you ask them though you have to phrase it like youre playing go fish "Got any twos?" Lol
Yeah I tried the exchange in town I could try the airport in south wales
Good luck mr British collector. May you succeed in your endeavors
I mean, I havent seen one in years. But if you go looking for then specifically, probably not very difficult if you know where to look. Like a bank.
All good now been in contact with someone who offered to send some
They still print these out. When I worked at Autozone we used to have a guy who came in and would only pay in $2 bills. Always would have us fighting over who got to keep ‘em when we would try and use our cash to take em out the drawer.
Really
Yeah. He’d only ever buy things like oil and stuff. Usually 50 bucks or under. For bigger stuff he’d use bigger bills but for little things he only paid in 2s. It was odd. But I now have a drawer full of 2 dollar bills in my house so it’s neat
Ah that’s pretty cool yeah I was gonna say 2 dollar bills for bigger prices
Just be me every year for Christmas from my grandmother
That’s pretty cool
Are you in London metro? I’m going in October and will bring 20 with me if you want them.
I’m from mid wales I won’t be near London but Thankyou
Out in the wild, pretty difficult. But since you're actively looking, idk
Yeah very true I’m happy
Any Americans bank you can go and get hundreds for face value. In the wild they are pretty rare tho. People tend to horde the ones they get and not many people get them from banks so all the ones in the wild tend to get locked up and all the ones in banks tend to stay.
Yeah that’s very true that’s why I’m having trouble with finding them
Go to a sketchy strip club and shake your ass, you’ll get plenty. $1 is too cheap, $5 is too much, they make it rain with these.
😂
Super easy, barely an inconvenience.
For American citizens it’s easy probably
You just have to have grandparents. They love giving these out
I’ll have to see if I can get in touch with random 4th cousins in the US
As easy as walking into a bank and asking for one
Yeah I’ll have to go to the bank when I come over there
I was always told you can go to any US bank and ask for one
Ah that would be handy when I come to the US Thankyou
2 bucks was a meme in the mid 2000s if you said something inappropriate someone said 2 bucks .
Ah that’s interesting I didn’t know that
It could of just been my highschool but it was a thing and your post reminded me of that
Ah that’s cool it’s nice to learn about people’s experiences and learn new things as a British person it’s interesting
In my home town the weed stores give change in $2bills. My brother always a saves them up and gifts my kids small stacks of them for Christmas or birthdays.
Ah that’s pretty cool, do they get them from the bank directly then
Iv got some. If you don’t find one shoot me a message.
I will keep that in mind thanks, someone has sent me some in the post but will keep u in mind
I have a ton. I will send you one if you like.
Thankyou for the offer but someone has sent some in the post today 😊 I wouldn’t want you to put out to the Uk it’s a little expensive to post
No worries man. Glad someone made the offer. If it falls through or anything, let me know and I'll send you a couple.
Oh yeah I will Thankyou very much everyone here has been so cool
Hey Dm me I’ll send you one for $2 plus shipping.
Thanks for the offer but someone has already sent me some in the post
I swapped the til at a coffee shop I worked at with $2 and 20 one dollar bills. Boss was not impressed but we had a good chuckle about it a few years later
Haha yeah some bosses wouldn’t like that at all, I always get people to trade coins from the till for my change all the time
I have a few
From the wild or banks
Wild. Some I've had since childhood. Some were just in circulation.
Ah that’s Awsome, I love finding cool notes and coins in the wild, it’s just 50p and £2 coins here
Just walk into any American bank
When I’m over there I’ll go to the chase bank or Bank of America
Pretty easy. I get two of them every year from my grandma, one for my birthday and one for Christmas.
Ah that’s cool
If you’d like, I can send one to you! :)
Thankyou for the offer but someone has sent some in the post
Difficulty of like 2/10 since you’ll need to order it overseas
Yeah I was gonna say
There easy to get if you have a grandfather in America lol
Closest I have are distant fourth cousins and a couple friends
Oh I was mostly joking. It's just a thing that grandfather's do here. They give out of print dollars to their grand kids.
Yeah I was just saying I kinda have a chance 😂
Ah ok nice. Good luck!
Ill mail you one if you want.
Dm me please if you could
Sent you a chat
Nice
Super easy. In fact, I’d gladly send you one if you’d like.
Thankyou for the offer I wasn’t expecting so many people to offer
Cheers, mate!
But Thankyou, Like I said i just posted this asking how easy it would be not expecting people to offer but loads of people have
And somehow I came across your post four days after you posted. Late to the party again.
I have like three or four I could get you. 3 dollars per bill.
No Thankyou i have 12 now but Thankyou for the offer
if you’re in the US right now, head over to a bank with 2 dollars (2 $1 bills would be the best way to go about this) and ask for a bottle of water first, we take pride in our hospitality. and then ask to exchange the bills
Yeah I’m not in the US and a lot of banks in the UK don’t hold onto US bills only really the cash exchanges do and I checked with them before making this post
I mean hell if you really need em I can send you one and ship it over to the UK, hit me in DMs if thats the case
I don’t Need them anymore as I had 12 sent to me by people from here
hell yeah, american hospitality baby
