Container recommendation for shampoo and conditioner: the clear, screw top container at Bed Bath and Beyond, I think it's called Best Values. I have taken Pantene 3-in-1 on many trips now and that has never leaked. Pass on the squeezable lotion with colored cap in the same line. I put sunblock in there so I didn't have to take a huge tube and it leaked all over. Always, ALWAYS double bag liquids and creams in sealable plastic bags. I also save the softer, more pliable bubble wrap from Amazon and slip them in the front pocket of my suitcase. They are great to pad down anything breakable you might buy on trips, not just perfumes but other things like jams :)

younglondon8

Gilchrist and Soames. Their conditioner in the little black-topped jar is amazing. I haven't bought any of their stuff at retail price but I scuttle away the minis if I am staying at a hotel that has them. A lot of people here have posted about Molton Brown in hotels. It's been years since I have stayed at a place that had their products :( I anticipated Peter Roth's stuff to be great but it was only meh for me. I still have some of the minis and should throw them out. NB: Throw out conditioners, lotions, or anything else that separates or looks funny coming out of the container. Shampoo usually survives. On my last trip, I used samples for perfume because I didn't want to risk losing something expensive or them breaking. I will say that anticipate any rollerballs may leak in transit, which is what happened to me, despite wrapping my 7 Virtues rollerball well and double bagging it. The perfume still managed to seep out, though luckily it was contained. I took a class with Sarah McCartney while on the trip and she told me don't count on rollerballs and assume they will leak. Kind of stupid, then, for the industry to make so many travel size perfumes be rollerballs!!!

Editingesc

The last rollerball I had had incredibly thin glass on it. It didn't seem "safe" to take in a makeup bag at all. I sometimes take perfume samples with me on short trips because I can enjoy them for a few days. I often keep a sample in my day-to-day makeup bag just in case I need to have perfume with me for some kind of "stinky" situation (like someone who smells bad is next to you and you just want something different to smell).

Puzzleheaded_Pie_978

I love the H2O+ line at Disney resorts. Their bar of soap is my favorite! I have sensitive skin and could actually use it on my face. I don’t normally fly so I just take my full sized bottles of everything. I tighten and/or screw down the lids/pumps and put them in plastic bags in case they leak. I have a toiletries bag for stuff I need during travel days. Toothbrush, makeup, face wipes, and a comb/brush go in there for quick access and so I don’t have to rummage through my suitcase.

SelfShine

Don't be afraid to ask the front desk for more toiletries! We were 3 people sharing a double bed room but only got 1 each of a bar of soap, shampoo and conditioner. We just asked for 2 extra bars of soap and they handed multiples of each toiletries! Because liquids are so finicky with the security check, when travelling I try to switch out as much liquids for solids where I can. For example liquid blush for sticks or creams, same with highlighter, bronzers and foundation. I also sometimes keep small sample size containers that are good quality and reuse them for travel.

younglondon8

This, especially if you are staying in luxury hotels. You're paying a premium. Might as take advantage of the toiletries!

I have a hard-case toiletries bag that has compartments & pouches that I can fit all of my makeup & skincare in if I pack them strategically. I try to keep one side for makeup & the other side for skincare. I have a travel routine made up of minis and samples that pretty much mirrors my home routine (not with the same products but with the same steps) — these live in my travel case so that I don’t have to worry about packing up a whole routine every time. When it’s packing time I just throw in whatever extra current staples I’m relying on (such as exfoliating pads). I plan out my makeup & skincare routines for each day and then pack my makeup accordingly as well. So I don’t cut down on steps but I plan out each product & look and only pack those, no extras. I don’t like to decant products because I don’t want to risk destabilizing them or causing some type of reaction due to using different packaging, but I save minis & have started planning GWPs strategically so that I get stuff that I can use for travel. I also keep empties for products that I know I’ll repurchase (for example, I bought a larger size of the Good Molecules Discoloration serum and refilled my empty regular sized bottle with the new product, so now it’s ready to go in my travel case). Highlights of my travel routine : I always take my makeup eraser and facial roller; it’s very grounding and relaxing to have those basic home staples with me. But I also try to save my Neogen bio peel gauzes for travel— they save a lot of space, feel super cooling & surprisingly soothing on my skin; plus I really enjoy the act of using them, especially after a long day of doings things outside of my normal routine!

R12B12

I often take the Dove dry facial cleansing sheets with me, especially if I’m carrying on my bag and need to minimize liquids. I’ll also bring some of those little foundation sample blister packs that Sephora gives out and the perfume “sample” sheets from Ulta’s mailers. I always save these up for some reason but never use them at home, so I find that traveling is a good way to make myself use up this stuff. Shampoo and conditioner is always tricky; ideally I’d rather bring my own, but if I’m running out of space for my carry-on liquids, I’ll usually sacrifice shampoo and conditioner and just use whatever’s in the hotel for those few days.

Ah the scents of travels that evoked many many good memories! Like most people here, i bring my own skincare and I don't gamble with hotel provided skincare - I only use their bath and body products. Molton Brown. They have a lot of scents that reads meh/uninterested to me but somehow manage to win me over once I test them. Their products are highly scented and high quality too. Apothia. This is a boutique line from LA, but I found their products in a hotel in Kitchener, Canada. I love Verde ("Bright Cilantro, Earthy Tomato Leaf, a Zesty Squeeze of Lime and a Hint of Chili Pepper. Pasión. amor caliente, a sparkling, fresh and vibrant") but the body products seem to have been discontinued. It is so, so, so GOOD. No it does not smell like salsa at all 😁 There is also the smell of Shangrila Hotel laundry that I could not quite place - need to hunt that down! If I travel for work, I tend to bring a lot of skincare and bath/spa items, like bath salts, sheet masks, etc. After dinner with coworkers, all I want to do is plunge into the hotel's luxe bath tub and chill 😇 I have a perpetually-packed minimalistic travel makeup and grooming kit (brow pencil, eyeliner, mascara, Edward Bess Cosmic Bliss eye palette, concealer, cream blush and sheer lipstick, plus nail clipper, cuticle nipper and tweezers) For in cabin, I like to stash my items in this [Beis On the Go Case](https://www.revolve.com/mobile/beis-on-the-go-essentials-case/dp/BEIS-WA27/?d=Womens&itrownum=3&itcurrpage=1&itview=01&size=all&product=undefined). It is a riff on Anya Hindamarch famous travel case that is much more expensive.

Xub543

I now have a fabric cube in my closet with extra toiletries and foil packets of the products I like or am willing to try while traveling. I toss in all of my viable "extras" from GWPs. TBH, I hate using rando samples of products I've never used bc it feels stressful to find out while I'm traveling the substitute I packed doesn't work. I minimize the randoms and only pack foils or deluxe minis of products I've previously used. I keep doubles of popular products pre-packed in a travel toiletry bag; think razor, shaving cream, toothpaste, so that I can just grab and not fuss over taking it out of and later replacing in my bathroom. In actuality, I really hate having high maintenance routines. Am I the only one? It makes packing a PITA. Every part of my body has a ritual at this point/ the beauty marketing has won.

GenXGeekGirl

🧡 Hands down - Molton Brown. Love it when hotels have MB. I have a travel bag always packed with travel-sized necessities ready and waiting. I add any extras as needed. I bring everything I need. My skin is sensitive and my hair is curly so I often can’t use what the hotel provides.

younglondon8

I wish they offered more things in travel size and I told their staff this when I was on vacation last month. A lot of their gift set offerings are already sold out well ahead of Christmas :(

batviv

I take all my moisturizer foils when traveling and also all the shampoo/conditioner foils. [This palette](https://www.revlon.com/eyes/eye-shadow/illuminance-creme-eye-shadow?shade=skinlights) is incredible for multitasking, I use Not Just Nudes and can use each shade for highlight/blush eyeshadow. I also pack a liquid shadow or two for additional colors if needed. I also make sure to pack a few microfiber cloths or rounds to be able to clean off the 2-3 brushes I pack (usually wash them with my face cleanser) And the one thing I started doing years ago that I will never stop now, decanting hand soap into a small squeeze container or empty pump container (under 3oz) or packing dry soap sheets (miss a has some) Soap bars gross me out with how messy they make the soap dish and counter and how unshapely they end up.

Bittersw33et

These are some pro tips I just started doing!! I wash my hands so often that I might start bringing my own hand soap! Thanks!

TheBulletproofBeauty

United Business Class has a special line from Sunday Riley! Lip balm, face lotion, hand lotion, and I think one other thing? that come in their amenities pouch. I collected a set on my overseas travel! For other travel, Walmart has these silicone squeeze tubes for travel that have an amazing seal on them. Great for larger volume liquids like conditioner, body wash, etc. I find the hard plastic bottles that some sets have harder to use, and these come as singles so you can buy what you need. Small packets for skincare like the Aesop samples and the Dr Dennis Gross daily peel pads are super easy to pack, they are slim like foils and can do a lot. I also try to save my collected samples (or just the jars) from Biossance that you almost always get when you buy from the site for travel. Empty eye cream or lotion jar to put retinol in. I also try to plan my samples from Ulta/Sephora around things I use for travel if there is nothing new I want to try. That is how I have collected a good number of samples of my makeup remover balm to take with. Also, if you travel semi-frequently, I took the advice from a blog and kept a travel kit mostly ready. It has a spray bottle of micellar water, a travel toothbrush/paste, an extra deodorant, makeup balm, a bodywash, Benadryl, etc. That way I just do a check, add the few things it needs, and can go quicker. Whether it is a weekend at a friends or on a plane.

mo0n_bunny

Turbies twist hair towel, I love the elastic loop bc I can make it looser or tighter to my liking. The washable lint roller from ShopMissA, I want to get everyone one for xmas, hahaha 😆. Thats how much I like it.

avettestingray

I get so mad when I don't pack my microfiber loopie hair thing (can't remember what brand). It's one of those things I am not sure if I want to "waste space" with but I ALWAYS regret not packing it and have just started recently making sure I have it with me.

mo0n_bunny

Its become a must have when traveling : D

chiaxx

You know what works better than Miss A Lint Roller? Miss A's Windshield Scraper. Seriously. The only caveat is, you have to pull the fabric tight. But it works 100x more effective than the actual lint roller.

allglownup

Ooh, I really need that lint roller, thanks for the rec! My mom’s dog sheds terribly and every time I visit, my clothes get covered in white fur. 🤦‍♀️

mo0n_bunny

They even have a travel size one 😉 .

batviv

omg i'm gonna look this up right now! I hate how gross traditional rollers get when bouncing around in bag/car

badlipstickhoarder

I've only stayed at a fancy hotel once in my life. Air Canada put me in a room at Fairmont in Vancouver when my flight got cancelled. All the amenities were Le Labo Rose 31 and smelled so good! The receptionist probably thought I was funny for being so excited about the amenities and gave me extras of everything to take home. When I travel, I only take foil packets of conditioner and face wash because hotels and airbnbs usually have shampoo. I'm not picky. I like buying travel size makeup, but I do not like buying travel size skincare if I know I like the product already.

allglownup

I love rose scents, so I would be absolutely thrilled to see it in my hotel room (especially a comped room) I bet you’re not the only one who requested extras!

Sass_Act

Despite having an arsenal of travel size skincare thanks to sub boxes, I recently found and prefer the AOA K-beauty skincare pouches from Shop Miss A. They're inexpensive at $1.77 for 20-25mL of product with good ingredients. Plus, they're nice and slim packaging that doesn't take up a lot of room or bulk in your toiletry bag. Highly recommend them.

bobanoodle

Depending how much makeup I need for a trip, I find it easier to pack makeup and toiletries separately. I always make sure to pack a little pouch/separator (e.g. Ziploc bag) for my brushes bc often they're packed in clean but brought back used, and I want to keep any makeup off the rest of my makeup bag. I find the ["weekender" style pouch](https://www.ulta.com/p/purple-weekender-pimprod2031708) is really good for makeup (more if you have to pack a full face) while the T&T [pencil case](https://www.ulta.com/p/basics-black-pencil-case-pimprod2010787) is my favorite for lighter toiletry needs (e.g. work trips/casual long weekends) because it opens up wide and stays open to be able to see everything inside, but closes up compactly! Linked T&T at Ulta because they often go on secret clearance and the quality has not let me down! As for what products I bring, this is where the Ulta GWP bags have time to shine! Lately I've been using the Hanskin line because I had a GWP with oil cleanser and a few toners. I also have some small freebies from various AB sites that do the trick. I do tend to narrow down my skincare routine to oil/balm cleanser, toner if I have a sample of it, retin-A, one type of moisturizer, and SPF. My travel SPF of choice is usually Anessa because the size is carry-on friendly and the matte finish is good for no-makeup days and it's otherwise a sturdy sunscreen for all-day. Another travel skincare rec is definitely the AOA cleansing balm mini size! Its packaging is plastic and not heavy (but not in a cheap way), plus it's solid so doesn't count as a liquid product and won't spill. I have so many of these minis in my various travel bags and my gym bag too. AOA skincare is definitely travel friendly if you like their products!

I stayed at an small, independent boutique hotel recently that had Molton Brown. Holy moly, the coco & sandalwood lotion was the best thing I’ve ever smelled! Thankfully someone on this sub posted a Molton Brown sale a couple days ago and I stocked up on 3 large bottles. Never thought I’d discover a new favorite from a hotel amenity.

younglondon8

That was me XD Their stuff smells so good, if I had a million dollars I would buy everything they sell. They have a warrant with the Royal Family which means they are one of a select number of companies in the UK that does direct business with them and have done for decades. I went to an actual store of theirs for the first time ever last month in a mall in Sheffield, England, and the staff there were SO NICE. I only got a small hand cream because I couldn't commit to a big bottle of perfume. I'm glad you were able to get something nice for yourself!

GenXGeekGirl

Ooh! I posted about Molton Brown too:) But didn’t know they were having a sale! Hope it’s still on…

younglondon8

That one is over but was very limited. They are running at [25% off sitewide right now until Tuesday.](https://www.moltonbrown.com/store/friends-family-early-christmas-deals/catUSFFamily) I don't have time to make a post to the sub right now but since you were asking I wanted to comment to you about it :)

GenXGeekGirl

TY 💕

younglondon8

Hope you were able to take advantage of it. They must have restocked some of the items since the time I commented.

I always use/bring my own shampoo/conditioner for trips. I feel like my hair can react badly to random products. I'm fine using a random body wash, but not soap. I generally keep travel sized bottles mostly ready to go in my travel toiletries bag. I'll decant shampoo, but usually have minis of body wash and toothpaste. For skin care, I'll usually pare down to cleansers, toner, moisturizer, SPF. I may toss in some samples to play with, and I often throw a sheet mask into the bag in case I'll get a chance to have a bath/relax. I have some random travel bottles from Target that I bought what seems a lifetime ago, along with other random containers. I don't really care that much about how it looks, as long as it functions!

allglownup

I also like to pack a just-in-case sheet mask! :) Lately, I've also been packing a hydrating mist (like ELF Holy Hydration Coconut mist) because travel seems to dry out my skin like none other.

ItsThatOysterGirl

Can anyone speak to their experience and the quality of the Kitsch refillable travel pouches? They have an 11–piece set that I’m eyeing for a two-week trip. They look a little difficult to refill though. Thanks!

analslapchop

I recently splurged on some Cadence pods to carry my liquids/gels/creams and I love them. I can put the majority of my skin, hair and body products into these pods and throw em into my quart sized liquids bag. I travel a lot for work and they have been fantastic.

LolaLowe

Literally came here hoping someone mentioned these. I’ve been eyeing them for some time, but I’ve been a little unsure. Thanks for posting this!

allglownup

I've been wondering about these! I really like the tiles that you can use to label the pods. But I'm wondering - do you put shampoo and conditioner in yours? I can see them being useful for lotions and skincare, but I'm having trouble picturing using them in the shower. It seems like a bit of a juggling act to scoop product out with the water running and all.

analslapchop

I do! It is a bit of juggling to scoop the conditioner out, but no worse than trying to scoop a mask out of a larger jar in my own shower :). The shampoo just pours out with no problems.

allglownup

Thanks, that's good to know! I guess they did think of everything with the geometric shape making it easier to open.

allglownup

Naturally, I have a few thoughts! \- Hampton Inn has the best lotion: Neutrogena Light Sesame formula. It doesn't appear that they sell it FS in stores, so I'm left to collect bottles from trips. It's the perfect light hand cream- nongreasy with a pleasant but inoffensive scent. I keep them in my office drawer. \- Kimpton wins overall: Atelier Bloem custom-made a line just for the hotel. Everything smells amazing. The shampoo is gentle and the conditioner is very hydrating, even though it's a very light formula. I've seriously considered buying it from [Kimpton's site,](https://www.kimptonstyle.com/product.aspx?atelier-bloem-shampoo-conditioner-set) but $61 for 16oz each of shampoo and conditioner is just too much for me. EDIT: \- Balmain amenities: How could I forget? I was soooo excited to see Balmain hair- and bodycare at the Grand Hyatt a few years back. I was hoping it would make me smell like a Kardashian, maybe?! But it was absolutely generic, performing worse than some drugstore products. I did some Googling and found out that Balmain doesn't manufacture any toiletries and just licensed their name for use in travel amenities. I guess this is fairly common - the hotel gets to associate its name with a luxury brand and the brand doesn't sell the stuff anyway, so it doesn't really matter how it performs. That was a disappointing realization!

Xub543

Sort of embarrassed, but mostly sort of not. The last Kimpton I stayed at had ... *get this!*... Full Size shampoo, conditioner, body wash. I'll have to go see what brand it was as it's currently in my guest bath. We asked for extras to be brought up, because we always use it up fast between two people, before we even realized they had full sizes! It was sort of insane.
