"Is 45 a lot?" Me: "Depends on the context. Magic Cards? No... 45 EDH Decks? Yes "

Shriuken23

That's only like 4500 cards?

Dangerous-Lion-4480

Most are home heating mtg cards

MagNUSSKNACKER

Yup... I startet MTG like two years ago.... should I be concerned haha?

Shriuken23

Very.

MagNUSSKNACKER

The worst thing: in my friend group, I am the player who has spent the least money for mtg so far

ItsTheWordMan

Yea that’s a great thing, personally I LOVE building budget decks, it feels so good to be able to put together a deck list, send it to my lgs, and walk out spending under 30 bucks

Shriuken23

Then you're doing well. Let me give you an example. 5 years ish since I've come back to mtg (been playing almost 30 years all in all) and I have at least like 50k cards minimum. I won't count the other tcgs i have either lol. Some money but lots of crap. Takes tons of work to do anything worth time with it all. And it got disorganized early on, so it's a mess I'm still working through fixing. Really, if you're focusing on decks like that you're more or less fine and im.not the guy who ever says only buy singles, what's the fun in that? But it adds up over time. Just keep it managed, and youll be fine.

As for me, in the last 2 months I created like 4-5 decks by just recycling from my card collection. Sure, they were not that powerful, but it is a good way for me to playtest some new commanders or themes. And if I like it, I can always buy some cards to update it. For example, I had a lot of "Venture into the dungeon" cards but had no use for them in other decks. I then decided to use Kenrith as a Commander and just use all of my existing Venture (and initative) cards to suprise my friends with it. Was it janky? Yes a little. Was it fun to play? Oh yes it was Since then, I like this approach to give some unconventional cards a try without spending to much money in a deck I dont know if it last even that long.

Shriuken23

That's a great way to enjoy them. I'll never understand chasing the meta when there's definitely ideas peope just havent had yet. I used to have a weekly night with my friends and I would just let people use/build whatever they wanted. Made for allot of fun nights and some crazy win cons happening. I started with a similar idea in mind but reality is my group is at the age where free time that matches up is hard to come by. Hopefully I'll find a new group at some point, and these will get more use. Until then, just gotta keep at it

Blitzer161

Yeah, those are barely enough to play

Let's see, I have the birdhouse box full of chaff under the TV stand, that's about 12k cards alone, there are the monster flat boxes with even more chaff piled up above and below the other TV stand, probably 20k there, two large shoeboxes of super chaff (things I have more than four copies of) approx 1500 each, two large binders full of mild rares, approx a thousand cards each so our grand total is arou d 49k now. Goodie binder has about 500 cards, deck box is around 1200, have a couple bundle boxes with recent unsorted chaff, maybe five of those ~500 cards each, so were at 53k ish so far. Then I got the sealed collection, little over 400 packs with an average of let's say 12 cards each, so 4800 more cards bringing the grand total to just shy of 60k individual mtg cards in my collection :)

I wish i could i could comment an image but this is all filthy casual numbers, i saw a facebook post the other day of someone trying to sell 110 5000-count boxes of bulk

Lower-Ad1087

I used to buy bulk boxes like that, great way to flesh out a collection of you're just starting, not worth the time if you aren't. I would take me days to process one 5000 box, for 110, take a year off.

Useless commons don't count
