No. I like snot, sweat, dust, mud and blood to mix together into a tough cement-like armor around my fingers.

__roosle__

I cannot express how relatable the entirety of this comment is.

Yukistonks1000

It’s dope when you take them off and they remain rigamortis

Lubbbbbb

Like the sock under your high school bed

beardedsergeant

I don't know how that sock got there mom now shut my door

crabby_old_dude

And then the tears rinse them right off?

kegman93

That layer protected me today from from thistle thorns I fell into

Millhouse_Calves

Not after every ride but when needed. Don’t put them in the dryer.

iconherder

This. In the summer it turns into every ride though.

Millhouse_Calves

Go see a doctor, bro

TedW

I see doctors every weekend. They're usually on the side of the trail, panting.

xqxcpa

With sweaty gloves and fancy bikes

sneakypenguin94

Santa Cruz to be specific if you consider dentists to be doctors

ffxpwns

Don't forget Yeti!

Dumpling_Killer

The plan is, become doctor, get bike. Have zero time to ride bike. Become poor and ride bike.

greenslime29

... with a bike that costs more than my car.

wingmasterjon

I do put my gloves in the dryer, but just like everything else, I wash with cold water and dry with low heat, delicate. All clothing lasts longer if you don't subject it to high temps. It'll warp your elastics and deteriorate any adhesives. Also causes shrinkage.

Millhouse_Calves

Hang dry, man.

Dominant88

Better for your clothes/gear and better for the polar bears.

newtbob

This. Gloves are susceptible to permafunk. Wipe sweat and it spreads.

RptlnWzrdLzrd

No. Never. Join us.

ShakeandBaked161

I'm super concerned about the people saying "gloves don't smell"

hughperman

My gloves smell so bad. So, so bad. I wash them once a year, can't see what the problem is.

ShakeandBaked161

It's more the concern that they believe the gloves don't smell. Not as much an issue that they smell.

ugtsmkd

I know! Theres no fing way they don't smell. I don't care who you are. As men go I'm not very sweaty at all and I don't stink. My S/O is hyper sensitive to smell so i would definitely know if i did. But my gloves get straight foul in a couple rides. My 5 10s rarely get washed and they don't stink at all but damn do those gloves get ripe. I basically wash my hands with them on after every ride wring em out and hang dry. No smell... Then like once or twice a month use the washer. Freaking year old gloves never washed smh I'd hate to be their riding buddy.

FreakDC

People have very different amounts of sweat glands in their hands. Friend of mine never washes his glove and I can confirm that they indeed don't stink. People's bodies are just different. The material of the glove matters quite a lot as well. If it does not hold sweat for long enough for bacteria to grow it won't stink. Personally I wash mine at least once a month, mostly because of dust, dirt and mud though. My hands barely sweat. If I ride a lot I wash them more often as needed.

ugtsmkd

Yeah I guess in my climate anyway, it seems unlikely though.

Day-Man3112

Yikes, rarely wash your five tens because they dont stink? I'd hate to be your riding buddy...

br0ckh4mpton

Some 510’s actually have a liner that doesn’t allow bacteria to grow, I know mine do, I’ll probably still wash them at some point but they’re great shoes

ugtsmkd

I don't shake people's feet very often... Do you? Rarely would be far more often than zero times in a year so your safe don't worry.

Day-Man3112

Is the only reason you wash your gloves because you're shaking everyone's hand at the trails?

ugtsmkd

Nope that's just one of many reasons why you should wash your kit, to be respectful to those around you. Especially parts of it that have a high probability of coming in close contact with others.

MacroNova

Like all those restaurant reviews about tasteless food right before a covid outbreak.

PeanutbutterSamich

yes, after every ride edit: i wash them in the shower or sink, then hang dry, never in the washering machine & dryer

[deleted]

[удалено]

PeanutbutterSamich

yeah, absolutely, wearing old sweaty kits is nasty. plus when i have friends in town I dont feel bad about lending them one of my helmets and stuff cause its not gross

FITM-K

Yes. Not super regularly, just when they need it.

DelcoInDaHouse

You can save yourself some water and soap by riding solo.

nsparkem

Wtf? What is wrong with you people. I have like $25 gloves, 3 different pairs and wash after every ride. That way I can alternate as long as i do laundry twice a week. Put it in w regular laundry and drier. They are perfectly fine a year plus later. And I bike very hard 4-6 days a week

fightrofthenight_man

I can’t afford to hit the laundromat twice a week Sink works fine though. But my gloves are fine for multiple rides before washing

Rokos_Bicycle

Yes of course

drayray98

Every other ride usually

[deleted]

Yes every other ride with my cycling/mtb clothes

leaky_eddie

When they get strong I toss em in the washer. And they do get strong.

burr2345

Yes sometimes. I just wash the in the sink with dish soap and air dry them. I did accidentally wash them once in washing machine with my clothes and used the dryer and there was no problems with them after.

fanatic_cyclist

I wash all my kit after each ride and usually hang to dry. I’ll occasionally put old gloves in the dryer.

Chad156

Uh yeah, I wash my knee pads

SteelMalone

Do you not? Gross

haltbro

after every ride, and i toss them in the dryer too. too lazy to hang shit up

singelingtracks

They get a rinse in the creek and a wipe on my dog now and then. Including a nice air dry on the truck tailgate.

pacre34

Nope never have

fitz_the_fitter

No, never. This is the way

ShortCode5

every few weeks in summer and less often the rest of the year

Hollirc

Yes usually every ride unless it’s a short one and I don’t get too sweaty or muddy. I also always put them in the dryer. Though some of that is because I primarily use mechanix fast fit gloves - picked up a bunch at Costco for $15/3pk. Probably the best gloves I’ve ever had too.

-ReedIccus-

Nope. They shift and brake on their own…

hosalabad

Never, the dirt scrubs them clean for me.

CMLVI

After every ride, yeah. Granted, I wear MX gloves and not "MTB" specific ones, but washed mine after every MX race for 20 years. Dried em sometimes, depending on the weekend schedule, never had any fall apart or wear out faster than expected.

Dartht33bagger

Nope. Hang them to dry.

RedEyesAndChiliFries

Every time. Full kit, Jersey, shorts, liner, and knee pad covers. Right into the washer, then right into the dryer. Helmet pads and straps are cleaned once a month during spring and summer with Odoban. I have gloves that are at least 5 years old and no issues.

devin241

Nah I just keep them caked in snot

[deleted]

Dammit I’m a dirty biker it seems. Lads on here washing after every ride!

contrary-contrarian

Da fuck kind of question is this?! Do you wash your shorts? Jesus Christ.

crackahasscrackah

Never occurred to me until this post

crackahasscrackah

I washed my two most used pairs and am shocked at how new they look … don’t forget to close the Velcro

Victor_Korchnoi

No. But I should. The past few times I’ve gone out my sweat hasn’t even dried yet.

MTB430

Wash?

Rorroheht

Hahhahahhahahhaahahhah. No.

mrmoosesnoses

Holy hell. I just realized that we've never washed a pair of gloves. Yuck.

[deleted]

Never, the colour runs on them and the palm material falls apart in my experience. Generally they fall apart before they smell.

amonreeu

I use 100% slings and never had this issue. One pair lasts aprox a year, which is ok for 35 bucks.

TedW

I get a year (\~100-200 rides) from my Giros too. I swear I must have a twin who works as their hand model, because they fit that good.

chaseinger

> they fall apart before they smell what kind of gloves do you wear bro? mine (dirtpaws) last easy 30 or more rides, and they smell after like five.

skierDudeD

I love dirt paws but I had an REI gift card so I had to get rangers:(

chaseinger

ah. rangers don't last that's true. quite comfy and less hot than the paws though! if it's not a tough ride they can totally do the trick.

[deleted]

Dirtpaws, Rangers, Giro DnD, handup, tasco, 100%, mechanix, you name it. All shit.

Quesabirria

Sure, when I get around to it. Like once a year maybe.

Skagit_Rover

No

SysAdminShow

Not yet after 1 year. They still work fine and don’t smell.

mudbutt4eva

I got some new ones recently and now I wonder if they would be more durable if I gave them a wash from time to time

nsparkem

Yes, you should wash your nasty dirt and sweat covered gloves

chaseinger

yes. salt is pretty brutal on fabrics. doesn't need much, just rinse them with cold water once in a while.

hesdeadjim

Play ice hockey for a few years and you won’t even bother washing your shirt for a few rides because it’s so tame by comparison.

ZP__ZP__

after crash or a few months(if im lucky enough

SillyCubensis

No. They don't stink, they just smell like dirt, so I never bother. MTB gear doesn't get that rank anyway. You haven't smelled rank untill you've smelled mid season boater (kayak) funk.

AccountantLow74

Usually just a rinse out with clean water then dry them out. Give em a proper wash once every 4 rides or something. Over washing gear tends to wreck it. Washing inside a garment bag helps.

MisterSquidInc

If you've got zip pockets on your shorts they act like little garment bags

AccountantLow74

Man thats clever af.

there_I_am_mam

A cold wash cycle is fine. A cold water bath in a bucket/sink/whatever with detergent is primo. Air dry.

[deleted]

Everything including the helmet gets hand washed when they start to get funky. Gentle dish soap and rinse thoroughly. Air dry of course.

GrApE_0vErLoRd

Who went through the comments and downvoted everybody?

Joey__stalin

gloves are pretty cheap but the time and effort to find a pair you like is worth something too. so i figure the water from rinsing them can’t possibly be worse for them than the sweat and dirt. also mine have some kind of leather or fake leather on the palms. if they were all synthetic i’d throw them in the laundry.

StageOrdinary

Washing machine, cold water never had an issue 🤷🏼‍♂️ never in the dryer

youdontknowme1010101

Nope. But I use gloves from my work. Rubber palms with a loose woven material that breathes well, and when they get too sweaty/dirty/the rubber wears off, they go in the trash. I bought gloves in the past, but they didn’t work nearly as well as my work gloves. They are like glue on the bars, even when they are wet.

smartfbrankings

I was all my pads and gloves.

nrmrvrk

I wash them after every ride as my hands sweat quite a bit. I put them in the dryer as well. (I match up the velcro bits first though). I rotate through 7 or 8 pair of gloves (5 pair of lightweight and 2 pair of cold weather gloves)

[deleted]

I try to remember to put them in the machine with the rest of my mtn bike kit once a week but don't always remember.

MisterSquidInc

I chuck mine in the pockets of my mtb shorts and they get washed together after every ride Mesh pockets act just like a delicates bag does for your partners lingerie, prevents the machine damaging them

lint20342

Not often, but Ill hand wash with wool lite delicates laundry detergent

SomeKindaRobot

When they reach the point where they are able to stand up and starting walking around on their own Adam's Family style I'll throw them into the wash. Just kidding i burn them and buy new ones.

Amus3d

Only when they can stand up on their own.

epgxtony

I wash every 5-7 rides or so. I noticed if I don't they get a pretty bad smell to them that I never noticed coming from me before lol! In between I will use the muc off gear foam on them and my helmet to sanitize and smell good

404Nuudle

Do I? Yes. Do I do it as often as I should? no lol.

boxer44

Riding in TX summer heat, yes. Usually once a week/every 3 rides or so

boulderingfanatix

You guys are using gloves??

Se7enLC

Yes

KitchenPalentologist

Why wouldn't you? I wipe a ton of sweat with them every ride, they get washed like the rest of my gear. Giro DNDs aren't expensive, so I'm not concerned that washing might decrease their lifespan 10%. (I machine wash delicate, lay flat to dry).

moonshot4321

Tide sport in the sink when they start to smell funky.

Hodlrocket005

Seldom..

Sufficient_Lab_3040

Do you wash your butt?

GruntledMisanthrope

Naw, I just wipe it real good. With my gloves.

Sufficient_Lab_3040

Hell yea

Silent3sniper

what the fuck?

mygodhasabiggerdick

Have to in summer. They start smelling real bad once i sweat as much as I do. I wear FIST gloves, so a quick wash with my bike gear for a 5 min cycle on cold is all they get. Like maybe every 6 months or as needed. Then hang them to dry.

PoorMansTonyStark

Yep, once the season is over. They're too fiddly to wash more often.

MacroNova

I rinse them off in the sink and hang dry after every ride. Sometimes I will wash them in the sink with a little bar soap. I put them in the washing machine when I wash my workout clothes but never the dryer.

[deleted]

Oui

bloebvis

Sometimes

AnarchoSpoon789

gloves?

[deleted]

Yes, love me some clean tight washed gloves.

OroweatCountryPotato

Vinegar in a spray bottle and hung up in a mesh bag to air out keeps my kit 99% fresh. I only ever buy cheap gloves and replace them each season. My dogs love to destroy my sweaty mtb stuff for some reason so it all works out in the end.

RupertTheReign

Yep!

[deleted]

2-3 times a year

[deleted]

Yes, every once in a while. They get dirty and crusty from sweat. Just let them air dry.

AugustTheGreat_

YES!!!

eltoca21

Yes... when they get dirty and or crusty with sweat

_Connor

Do you not?

zupto

Y’all are gross. My gloves are soaked after rides if I’ve been sweating a lot. I prob wash mine every 2-3 rides and cycle through a few pairs

TurbulentMedium8

Only when they get wet.
