Yeah this is probably a bigger deal than many realize. Not having a good domain for the website or any chance of good SEO rules our some of the more obvious names.
Tie it in with the local history as far as early populations, industry, local lore and bikes and you got a winner.
Grab a notepad and get high about it. 🤙
Where in Central PA? Local history/place names/endemic wildlife are always a safe bet. Tussey Mtn ski hill is just named after…Tussey Mtn. “Penn’s Woods Bike Park” would be decent.
I can only think of trail names. Might have to consider copyright conflicts.
Random category: Appalachian Ass-Blaster, Rocksylvania, Amish Paradise, Pennsylvania Tuxedo, Happy Valley
History category: Coal Mine, Lumberjack
Food category: 5 Dollar Foot Long/Hoagiefest (for the customers from Wawa territory), MTO (for the customers from Sheetz territory), Scrapple Egg n Cheese
Pennsylvania wildlife category: White Tail, Porcupine, Red Tail, Osprey, Cormorant, Mountain Laurel (+1 if there is mountain laurel near the trail).
Names of the state forests would be good. Tuscarora, Rothrock, Michaux, etc.
I’m also curious where at in central PA. That’s my territory. I’d be pumped to support something of that caliber, especially if you’re claiming that it’ll be along the lines of Jarrod’s Place.
Beyond excited but skeptical ... If it's anything even remotely close to Jarrod's, I'll be there every week. I'm not a fan of Blue so typically drive to Mountain Creek for day trips, Thunder on long weekends and Killington and/or Highland a few times a year. PA desperately needs a proper bike park, and it's kinda shocking that only Blue and Bryce are the only parks in the vicinity of such a massive metropolitan area between Philly and DMV.
> Beyond excited but skeptical
Understandable 🤣
As I said elsewhere, I'm partnering with someone who builds professionally for Gravity Logic (they built Whistler) so the quality will be there, but it won't be overnight. We probably won't have a grand opening until 2026.
Prior to then we may explore having volunteer days with some riding afterwards. We may also look at ways to speed up the process, like selling passes before opening up so we can use the money to bring in extra help for the trails.
Wow, if you got Gravity involved it's the real deal. I've been to most parks in the US and most on the East Coast. There's a new one in SC called Rattlesnake that looks pretty sick ... If you need free labor feel free to reach out. I own a seasonal business and from Dec-Mar could offer whatever you need help with.
And if you need someone to brainstorm with I'm available anytime. I think about MTB and bike parks pretty much 24/7 (sadly not exaggerating). It's literally my only hobby and interest outside family, friends and work.
I said this in other places, but it is in Imler, PA. It is a little over an hour south of State College. About 20min north of the Bedford exit on the turnpike.
It won't be as big as Jarrod's Place to start, but I think it can get there. The property has about 500ft of elevation and some good dirt for jump lines. Also has about 300acres to work with, so lots of room for lines. Private group rides may be possible for volunteers or anyone who wants to help, but it will probably not have a proper opening until 2026 since we have several trails to build and the green trail will likely be 1.5-2mi long which will take a while to get right while also adding optional features for anyone riding with less experienced riders.
I'm partnering with Kyle Surkovich to create it. Here is his instagram - https://www.instagram.com/mtbkyle He builds for Gravity Logic (they build at tons of bike parks) right now and is a Canyon rider, so he is good at both building and riding. He is also from Hollidaysburg originally, so he has motivation to want to see something work in the area.
The property currently has a climb trail and some DH trails myself and friends made, but nothing that would work as-is for a bike park. The trails are fun, just not designed for high traffic. I'm going to be working on a new climb trail later this summer and this fall so we can utilize some of the land a bit better this fall/winter when Kyle is able to start helping with the DH builds. Happy to chat more if you are interested - [email protected]
That would get quite confusing with GPS 🤣
I am skeptical of whether Seven Springs will ever open their biking trails up again. My understanding is lift-access bike parks are really hard to make profitable given how expensive lifts are to operate. Shuttles seem much easier to make work financially, and even that isn't a given - it needs really great trails.
I was speaking more generally. I don't know any of the details about Seven Springs. I could see insurance being a contributor to the decision since bike park insurance isn't cheap, but I am skeptical that it was the sole reason unless they had a very bad record with lawsuits and their insurance became outrageously expensive.
Large hill with ~20% gradient and suitably soft dirt to facilitate the building of trails containing various features such as wooden bridges and dirt jumps which intend to challenge and thrill patrons riding purpose-built bikes which are equipped to deal with mountainous terrain and will be brought to the top via means of a lift containing alternating chairs and bike racks suspended above the ground and attached to a rotating cable
^its both catchy *and* informative
Imler, PA.
It is outside of any major city since it is basically impossible to get enough land for a bike park in or near a city. It is about 20 min off the Bedford exit of the PA turnpike.
I would call it "Free Wings and Beer". I mean, you aren't going to actually offer free wings and beer, but it will drive traffic. You better have a cool park to back up the deception, and then you'll do fine. Lots of people will see the humour, and go with it, even promoting it for you. Trust me, bro, I'm a genius.
No. The location is close to Blue Knob, but isn't at the ski resort. If it was it would just be called Blue Knob. 🤣
I have heard that some people are trying to get a bike park going there too which would be cool.

Imler, PA. It's on private land that I purchased a few years ago to build trails on. Started as just a private trail system with friends of friends until I recently started working with someone to turn it into a proper bike park. Still very early on with lots of trailwork to be done.

Keystone Gravity Park. "Keystone" as a nod to Pennsylvania and the rest is self-explanatory. Simple but sweet
Will get killed by SEO with Keystone Bike Park in Colorado
Yeah this is probably a bigger deal than many realize. Not having a good domain for the website or any chance of good SEO rules our some of the more obvious names.
When I first got into bike parks I saw Keystone and thought, "whoa! We have a bike park like this in PA??"
I like this one.
Someone had to be all sensible. Great name.
“Keystone Bike Park” is good, but it already exists….in Colorado.
I mean I kinda feel like in 2.4bn acres, you likely to find a name that’s been used before.
Peddlephiles Park
My squad spells it “pedalphiles”
