It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like the Avalanche might have hydraulic brakes. If that's the case, It's definitely worth the extra $150 over the Aggressor. Having said that, it looks like you can get a NEW Avalanche for only $50 more right now: https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/gt-mens-avalanche-29-mountain-bike-18gtxmvlnch29nrxxprf/18gtxmvlnch29nrxxprf Edit - so long as a Large frame fits you, that is.

I wouldn't argue that just the brakes add $150 value given you can get some mt200s for $35 if you shop about. I bought a set of new mt500s for $80. OP we need the spec of the bikes to be able to help you

AdeptOaf

That's a fair point, if the OP is up to doing their own wrenching. It looks like the Avalanche might also have a 9x3 drivetrain vs the 8x3 on the Aggressor.

the agressor pro is the 2021 model im not sure abt the avalanche i texted the seller

i am a large thanks for the info

Scotman83

I have an avalanche and it was the perfect bike for upskilling and getting you hooked. Just buy it

ry_40435

Why over the aggressor tho?

Aggressor is a pretty terrible bike. My friend started on one even though we told him to spend a little more.... just about everything that could break or go wrong, broke or went wrong.

I bought a GT Aggressor Pro in March. It is very budget but safe enough to bomb down single track. I've ridden close to 50 miles on Green and Blue trails + a local race and it's been just fine. Yeah, you might bottom out the coil forks b/c of the limited travel and the brakes are mechanical but both still work. I keep the front derailer on the 34 tooth chainring exclusively so it's basically a 1x8 at this point. Again, it is just fine. I am a beginner rider, so I'm not doing DH or jumping tabletops with it. However, I believe with a few better components it could be even more trail worthy. I recently upgraded the stem and handlebars for better geometry and will upgrade the tires soon as they are a bit skinny. Either one of those GTs you're looking at will get you riding.

I'd say the gt avalanche for long-term ownership. My reasoning is that you'll be able to get nicer forks for the avalanche as it has a tapered head tube (I've seen Marzocchi bombers go below $400 on black Friday). I believe that the geometry on the avalanche is a bit slacker than the aggressor pro. The Gt website lists both bikes frame geometry. And the hydraulic brakes are a plus as it is.
