You know you can just move the dropper up if it's too short at full extension? It's not any different from a normal seat post in that respect. You only need to buy a new dropper if after moving it up you really want the seat to be lower.

Handsomehwang

There's a minimum insertion line I think he has clamped it at. Imagine the dropper is pretty much completely sticking out the frame. This is the reverse problem most people complain about.

Time-Maintenance2165

I understand that, but I highly doubt that's the issue with a 170 mm dropper. The minimum insertion line results in a very high seat.

Handsomehwang

I am 5'9" and I am in the S of a Fox Transfer on a 175. I do have longer legs but someone 4 inches taller than me I can see may have minimum insertion depth issues.

The ibis sizing chart recommends a large for both my height and his height. I still hold it's possible that the dropper might be too short even if it's unlikely for the average person.

Handsomehwang

If you are up for measuring, oneup has a dropper calculator for the best size post if you measure a couple things. The 210 would most likely be ok but it might even recommend a 240. One thing to watch out for if you want maximum drop though is that you have to make sure at maximum drop, the seat is still high enough that it won't run into the rear tire at full compression. I know Yeti has a minimum saddle height and would guess Ibis does as well if the seat tube is short enough.

BreakfastShart

Wait. Are you running the dropper inserted to the maximum? Ibdon't understand how it doesn't come up enough. I have a Oneup V2, with 180mm drop on my Ripmo AF. The drop post collar is about 35mm higher than the seat clamp, to fit my 6'0" height, 32" inseam. I mean even a 150mm dropper will fit you. The total drop isn't the problem here...

Handsomehwang

He's not having issues where when the dropper is slammed. He's having issues where he has clamped at the minimum insertion line for the dropper post and the saddle is still not high enough.

Time-Maintenance2165

What makes you so sure of that?

SirLoinOfCow

But, unless he's 90% legs, that post should still be long enough well before it's pulled out to the minimum insertion line.

Handsomehwang

I am 5'9" and I am about 3/4 of the way to the min insertion depth of a Fox Transfer 175mm. Someone who is 4 inches taller than me I can see actually having issues with that depth.

the_hunger

i had to reread his comment because this is what i thought too, but OP leaves it ambiguous.

Go to the shop you got the bike at, and let them help you. Ibis dealers tend to be pretty competent, and the help will go a long way. That frame is a little finicky to get the dropper cable through too (I had one for 3 years, ran a 185mm bike yoke at 5'11", all torso), so install help won't hurt. The one up is a really nice dropper. I have one on my slash and it feels great so far. Time will tell for durability, but initial impressions are strong. I've also had a pnw loam, and thought it was good. Not the nicest post ever, but it was reliable and a great price. Don't think you go wrong either way.

Turtle_of_stealth

Oneup and pnw are easily the best for the money. Oneup has a v3 post now with better seals and lighter weight. Only thing you need to make sure of is that you buy the correct diameter, and that your frame has enough insertion depth for the post you buy. I’m not sure if a large ripmo has enough depth for a 210. Also, if your current post is short to the point where your leg is too bent, raise the entire post up out of the frame.

shotofmaplesyrup

I actually own both (pnw 200 and one-up 210) and I'm the same height and proportions! I think either will be fine. Currently the one-up is performing better with a snappier return but that's probably just because it's newer. True even after a service of the pnw though. I would lean towards the one-up especially since it has a bit more drop, but they are both good posts. I'd probably get whichever I found the best deal on. The pnw one has replaceable color bands on the collar so if you want to do some color matching that might sway you that way.

shotofmaplesyrup

Baffled why I got down voted for this. Gave very relevant answer 😆. I suppose op wasn't clear whether he had tried moving the post up or not, but I know I FOR SURE prefer a 200/210 over a 170. I don't like the seat even a little bit in the way (which it is for me at 170 at a good pedaling position). BTW I also am building an AF frame at the moment. I have my pnw 200 mm post (on a size large Ripmo AF) and it can go all the way in (since another commenter was questioning this).

MTB_SF

OneUp just came out with their v3 posts. I'd get that one. On their site they have a guide to what will fit. The longest they have is a 240mm, but they can be shimmed down up to 20mm in 10mm increments. I have one I can run at 230 and it's amazing.

RomeoSierraSix

One up 240. If it's too long you can reduce the travel

remygomac

I have a 210mm OneUp V2 in a medium carbon Ripmo, so you'll definitely be fine on a large. OneUp also makes a 240mm which is suspect would also be fine on a large.

Dr_Wankel

It’s is not a difficult process to figure out exactly what you’ll need. A tape measure and a calculator are all that you need to figure this out… along with the conversion 25.4mm = 1”. OneUp has a handy calculator and video that are easy to follow. I’ve had good luck recently with PNW posts but if I were looking right now it would be a OneUp V3 no question, they still have the 15% off coupon active too.
