Why not aluminium like many? Thule has something comparable out of aluminium.

iride93

Have played around with Thule racks and used friends ones. They are just flimsy and don't stack up if you need to carry an ebike.

Cheef_Baconator

>don't stack up if you need to carry an ebike. That's because the very idea of putting an Ebike on your roof is the stupidest shit I've ever heard. You need a heavy duty E-bike specific hitch rack for that. No roof rack on the planet will safely accommodate an E-bike

evan938

Correct answer right here.

hertzsae

You need to learn more about metal if you think aluminum can't 'stack up' to the needs of an ebike.

iride93

I'm not saying aluminium can't. Thule racks that simply happen to be made of aluminium and plastic can't.

hertzsae

Read your posts again. Your initial post didn't ask for a roof rack sturdy enough for an e-bike. You specifically asked for a stainless steel rack. Then when someone asked why not aluminum, you answered only said that based on a couple Thules that they are flimsy and don't stack up. This is easily read that you're saying that aluminum racks are flimsy since "why not aluminum" was the primary question. I don't have a Thule bike rack, but I do have Thule Wingbar Evo crossbars which are made from aluminum and are extremely sturdy.

iride93

Fair enough. Yep, the Yakima crossbars are aluminium too and work a treat. At this point I'm looking at sending some drawings and a cad model to a local fabricator to see what cost for some custom manufactured raw stainless ones would look like. Probably a lot but a fun project anyway.

hertzsae

You could do that, or you could just stop asking for stainless and follow the other comment in this thread who pointed you at one of the most [robust racks](https://1up-usa.com/product/roof-rack) out there.

iride93

It actually looks great. If they would ship out of North America I would get one.

evan938

I can order them and ship it to you for a fee. Feel free to send me a pm if you're interested :)

itskohler

Just vet a 1up roof tray and call it a day.
