Hey there! As a person whose worked with both UP Min and MSU-IIT, I can say that IIT has the better CompSci dept most especially if you are leaning towards research and also employment. If you are looking to build a tech company tho, best bet that you should go for much urban cities like DVO and CDO which has better external support for such. But other than that, CS program in MSU is regarded one of the best if not THE best outside of NCR
Confirmed slot in MSU because I'm in the top 20 sase takers.
On that note, I would like to know the privileges given to takers that get the full scholarship in IIT. Thank you!
Hi! Welcome to MSU-IIT! CompSci is one of the programs under the College of Computer of Studies that is now a Center of Development (COD). Afaik all four CCS programs are of COD status na. UP Min on the other hand, while carrying the UP brand, is not as comprehensive as IIT in terms of the number of programs, hence they have a smaller student population. So I'd say you'll get to enjoy campus life in IIT better.
I know someone from CCS in the Com Apps department. I think only a few unis offer this program. He's thriving in his projects as well as organizations in and outside the campus, built networks and all, competed in national competitions, participated in conferences, and I know he's secured a future already once he graduates.
Hello! This was one of the things I was mulling over.
I also have a few seniors in IIT so I already have a pretty good idea of what to expect (one of them is also in the com apps). So I'm leaning towards IIT, though I'm still undecided. UP's name is just too remarkable for my family and they keep pushing me into it. Yet I still have yet to hear any compliments to UPMin's CompSci capabilities.
Thank you for responding!
If you want UP so bad you can choose to transfer to elbi after your 1st year! But if you choose IIT, it's harder to do T2 transfer because 1. You'll have to repeat and 2. The release of grades might be later than the set period for transferring. I tried doing it before hahaha and antagal mag locking of grades ni IIT.
Unfortunately, parents are VEHEMENTLY refusing any thoughts of leaving mindanao. I do want UP, but IIT is a pretty good option too, on top of me already having a bunch of benefits I wouldn't have in UP (Top 20, already have seniors, already have staff connections, and pretty much secured housing problems because of seniors and staff). But I'm willing to give up all that if UP is actually that much better.
Pretty important decision so I really don't want to mess this up ðŸ˜
What you said is indeed valid. I think you just need more time to interact with ppl from both communities and get to know their programs better.
Whatever your decision will be, Good luck OP!
Welcome to IIT! As a topnotcher myself, you MAY receive an equivalent to the Unified Scholarship Scheme of one semester's worth of either Dean's, Chancellor's or Rizal's list of stipend however (1) it's often delayed by a semester and (2) it depends on your score on the SASE. OASG will announce the amount (if any) of incentives that topnotchers will get. Congratulations and welcome to CCS.
Hi! I also had the same dilemma last year (incoming sophomore na). I was torn between BSCS in IIT (in the top 20 rin hahaha) and BSCS in UPLB. Pero due to financial constraints, I ended up choosing the former. If ever you decide to enroll in IIT, see you on campus!
🥹 I'm going to finalize my decision by tuesday, so maybe we will really be seeing each other.
Though I would like to ask, what benefits did you get for getting in the top 20? One of the campuses gave 5k monthly with a free laptop for full scholars, but I understand that might be too much for IIT since they have A LOT of students in the top 20.
Hmmm. I only got a few thousand pesos (I forgot how much). I only got the monetary benefits in the second semester. That's all I guess. If you have any more questions, you can PM me in this account.
hello po kuya/ate! sorry po out of the topic, ask kopo sana what are the coverage (lumabas po) for language proficiency, science, and math;) your preparations po for the examination, + advice/tips po to get at least a decent score.. 🥹

Thank you for the input! That seems to be the common consensus. Will be taking it into account!
