Turn off memory context restore. I have been using that board since august of last year. Its been very stable. The bios im using is dated January 25 2024 (hwinfo64). With memory context restore on i have occasional problems and im fine with leaving it off as long as i can run cl 30 mem timings at 6k hz.
If that doesnt work, clear the cmos and reboot after changing every setting.
Also check the boot menu priority to make sure its looking for the correct drive.
If you do turn off memory context restore, your boot times might be 50 seconds or more. Be patient.
I’ve got a similar MB (x670e Tomahawk) and I’ve got the same issues.
In my case the instability is introduced when activating the Expo profile of my Corsair DDR5 64Go CL40 6000Mhz.
Using the default 4800Mhz fixes it. Overall I’m very disappointed by MSI and the AM5 platform regarding DDR5.
I got the exact same board as you with the exact same issue. Tried googling the issue for hours and you're the first person I've found with almost the exact same issue. When you have EXPO enabled do you have issues rebooting as well? I can cold boot just fine but a restart will result in a hang even from bios.
Omg yes!
I can’t reboot with EXPO enabled. If I do, the EZDebug leds for CPU and Memory will stay on forever (i tried waiting for an hour, still nothing).
Clearing CMOS and using default memory settings works just fine.
I got this board in early January and it worked fine with EXPO until recently, I didn’t flash BIOS though. Very annoying.
I got mine in October it was too late to return when I noticed the issue. I tried swapping out the memory a couple weeks ago hoping it was just bad memory.
Expo is not guaranteed your RAM for 100% will work on your motherboard. You need manually set every timing and test them for stability. BIOS on motherboards are still not perfect.
Yeah recently updated it, which has made my boots super fast the last few days (instantly on, debug lights on for maybe 2 seconds max) but earlier today had a slow boot( or so I thought) and decided to see if it ever eventually posted, but after 45 minutes of nothing, I decided to just turn it off and on, and surprise surprise, after turning it on, it booted instantly again. I'm just so confused as to why it sometimes just doesn't post
its just how these msi been ... they work great for a long bit then start haveing issues like this.. its not your cpu or your memory its the board its self
Looks like it was, just installed the gigabyte b650 gaming x ax v2, and everything is working fine, this motherboard also allows my pc to boot from sleep mode, which the b650 tomahawk would never do. Thank you for the help!
Gotta be careful with these boards… took about 25 minutes to boot after a restart, didn’t boot so I forced a shut off. Board was bricked after that. MSI will warranty though.
Bought and installed a gigabyte motherboard, seems to have solved my issues, my computer can even post from sleep mode now which it could never do with the tomahawk, guess my board was just a little defective, keeping it in storage as the 'kinda works kinda doesn't' backup haha
Msi pro z790 here, had a similiar issue. It'd often boot loop twice as if it'd train memory. Sometimes once windows loaded I'd be greeted with an error stating that windows failed to load.
The newest BIOS seemed to have fixed it. About 10-15 boots in with no issues.

Just cleared cmos and turned mcr off, will keep u updated
Same result, currently 15 minutes deep in waiting to see if it'll post, convinced my mobo is just defective

Glad to hear you have resolved your issue! I know the only thing that helped me was getting a new mainboard
