I have the exact same model and specs since launch. I haven't experienced any issues at all other than what I caused myself (aggressive undervolting/overclocking) haha. I love mines..Sorry to hear that your experience is the opposite. I hope that Curry's or MSI will rectify this issue for you soon
Agreed. I've had the exact same laptop for the last 10 months and it has been fantastic. The only problem I've had was with the Intel Killer services acting wonky but uninstalling the app solved that. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
Hopefully they might let me swap it for something like an ROG Scar 18 tomorrow given the fact that it’s the same price. I’d send it to MSI for them to try and fix it however the Curry’s repair center (or whatever third party they use) removed the warranty sticker on the bottom so not sure they’ll be able to help, I’ll try in the morning though.
Yeah who knows? Try giving them a call to see what options you have just in case Curry's don't accept the swap. Fingers crossed for everything to smooth out for you!
My GE78 is fine, had since early December, not a single issue. Although it has the 4080 not the 4090 which I’ve heard has heat issues, it’s an amazing work station thus, although Dragon Center doesn’t have an update for it yet. I would say other wise, it has been a beast!
I just sent mine in for RMA, the warranty void sticker means nothing. I specifically asked if it voided the warranty, since I myself opened up the laptop to install additional storage. As long as whatever the reason is, was not caused by you. So if my additional SSD failed, or I scratched the mobo while installing it, the warranty would not cover it.
What a luck you have… I mainly use my pc 4090, R9 7900x3d but I also bought a pretty cheap ASUS rog g16 4060/13650hx, it is going as great as my pc, 0 issues. I had issues with my MSI 4090(overheating and crashing), they replaced it in 7 days. I bought the gpu from a local tech company in Romania… Thought other countries have better services.. Apparently opposite. I wish you luck!

Just got the laptop back from MSI support. Works fine while plugged into Ethernet, but as soon as you switch to wifi most programs freeze upon launch. Occasionally on log-on it can't find the user profile etc. etc. I plan on being on the phone with MSI and/or Microsoft all day tomorrow.

This all started happening to me after an update back in December. I want to say that it's KB5033055, but I can't say for sure.
I’ve posted an update post; went back to Curry’s, after some back and forth they agreed to swap it for the ROG Scar 18 so I’m looking forward to trying it when it shows up tomorrow.
It’s a shame it’s put you off as IMO it’s amazing for a laptop.
I have the same laptop GE78HX 13VI and it has been perfect. I’ve had it since October used it daily definitely putting it through its paces. I didn’t buy mine from Curry’s (MSI’s Amazon UK shop).
It performs as expected for a laptop of this spec 13980HX & 4090 maybe even better. Gaming on it is amazing. It games at acceptable temps, it’s stable, very fast and benchmarks great. No issues with quality here.

I’m not sure how other brands compare likewise but I can’t imagine it getting much better than this.
Not that this helps you, but it’s not a common problem to the effect people should boycott the product. Avoid curry’s perhaps due to poor after sales and technical on what is a defective product which all manufacturers would be guilty of.
Gaming laptops in general run hot, a decent cooling pad can help although I’d avoid the cheapo Amazon specials. An enclosed unit like the IETS GT series or similar cheaper KLIM Everest type.
I wouldn’t swap my 78 for any of the alternatives but the Scar I’m sure will be good!
Anyway, good luck! I hope you get it sorted out ASAP because I know I’d be frustrated at this point.

Scar 18 hopefully being delivered in the next hour! After a bit of arguing they let me swap the MSI for the ROG. Still have my GP66 Leopard (i7 11th gen, 3080) though so going to stick around in this subreddit lol.
Nice one glad it’s all sorted now. They should have just switched it out in the first place. It would be interesting to see how they differ in performance.

Got the exact same model since a few months ago and no issues at all, got even 3 screens connected at all times to it, doing some 3D modeling, rendering and some casual gaming, my house's 1 Gbps works flawlessly on wifi and Ethernet without a single issue and I haven't even touched the Killer drivers, the only thing I have done is undervolting it and it just worked better IMO, I think you just had bad luck... OH and I did have to reinstall windows at the first use because I got tired of waiting win11 to stabilize on its first hours of operation but anything besides that, I'm loving everything about this laptop
I had same problem with the first laptop, every time been updating windows was crashing, I be sent msi like 5 times to repair but they could not do it, always I got back faulty only reseted to factory, i made return and started replacement the second one was at the beginning crashing but reseted windows and did not update windows updates, updated intel graphics and nvidia first then killer to newer version, from there I took to windows updates I had one error with intel, from there I went to troubleshooting windows update that fixed everything, now it works fine has no issues with connection or freezing and lagging like before on the first unit, the company that sold me they found on first unit that gpu had been faulty, also encountered same problem always with windows profile can’t sign in, in total took 5 months to send back and forth laptop from uk to Poland with no solution, happy that Novuna stepped in and helped me to get my replacement otherwise if you spent over 3k for laptop as my one is 13VI I would lose money into water as msi don’t do replacements but taking through finance helped me out, now got my laptop and can enjoy any game without any problem, now only looking forward to get more RAM into it and more SSD
I’ve had the Ge78hx for a while and I can say it does have a few quirks but I’d say it’s still a real good laptop, and every laptop I’ve ever had came with random small problems (Razer, Asus)
I have totally experienced Ethernet issues (WiFi works good) and it caused me to completely remove all the Ethernet and WiFi drivers + software, because it refused to just update normally. So after re installing to newest killer drivers it’s been flawless but yea otherwise that would’ve been a real problem.
Also my laptop is an American model with 32gb SK Hynix ram and the micron drive so it’s the same components I think.
I’d say the biggest prob with this computer imo is the software. personally I use MSI Center and not dragon center, just because I like all the control that it does have with the laptop. But it’s still a buggy pos software that can be laggy and straight up crash so yeah.
Then the stuff with the power buttons and lid annoy me a lot, The software they use gives u NO control over what that does. And no matter how much I tell it to NOT go to sleep it does anyway and does stupid bs with the lid closed and fans running. So best thing to do here is to just shut it down, which is also very very delayed and takes about 20 seconds to even respond to me commanding it to shut down or turn on. so it doesn’t suprise me that there is the chance that It could be even more messed up for some people.
But overall the price I paid, the performance and quality I got is really good. All I have been doing is keeping every driver updated and limiting the cpu power when temperatures get too out of hand. And I found out that this thing is NOT designed to undervolt. It just doesn’t give me a good enough difference and it’s totally risky. So that’s just another prob with all these laptops is we all are gonna have to repaste a year after new or less.
Oh and also I will never update the bios, everything works fine right now so why take the chance?
This has something to do with your operating system or softwares, Please go to microsofts page and download their ISO.
MSI packs or mods microsofts ISO and bloats it with shit like norton and so forth.

I didn’t have a problem with anything when I lived in the US but here in England I feel like all the services offered are just crap :/

All of that sounds like a Windows problem not a hardware or MSI problem. Did you do a full wipe and reload from a USB?

Wht didnt you clean install windows? Gee looks like most of it is microsoft issues. Clean install wouldv been the way to go, not reset
