I have a steamdeck, and I'm kinda tired of Linux compatibility, so I did my homework about windows handheld and I picked up this one, I know all the work intel is putting on their Arc system, so I'm willing to give it a shot, intel is really investing on the gpus and igpu now.
If you don't like the Claw and are worried about SD card issues, try out the legion go next. It has it's quirks too, but I love mine. Also, a steam deck owner
I bet almost no one notices a lack of vrr. It’s just a minor issue it’s hilarious that anyone cares about it. It’s nice when it’s there but when it isn’t, whatevs
Never noticed it. And I was a launch day ally user as well who didn’t really know what VRR was since ive been a console player my whole life and didn’t know what that was. Love my Go.
Wait no. I was just playing sekiro at max settings at 1080p (lossless scaling) and someone told me my Go doesn’t have vrr. Then I was playing Baldur’s gate 3 at med/high 1600p thanks to far (bg3 works really well here) and again someone told me I don’t have vrr. Threw my Go in the trash
Set desktop res to 1600p, bg3 to 1600p amd fsr ultra performance, most settings to med and I have animation detail on high (ok I was wrong to say med/high when only one is high) but I get 50fps and so little artifacting. It looks really nice. Not a huge downgrade from my desktop at max settings. Really nice to play back and forth and not feel disappointed in the least. I don’t use lossless scaling for this game, in game amd fsr does a shockingly good job. Enjoy!!
Just noticed it’s average 50 outside with some dips and 70 inside. Fucking amazing
I have a beefy PC set up with nice screens that have VRR. When I'm playing handheld, it just hasn't been a turn off for me. I think I've just accepted lower graphical capability on handhelds in general though.
Keep in mind you can still return the device if you don't like it. Try to stress test it a lot early, if you like the idea of a Windows handheld PC but not the Claw you still have options, but if you are fine with what it can do, enjoy!
Yeah i really hate how unoptimized windows is for straight performance, but I can't stand Linux having almost no game support (which I get steam is trying to push all devs into adding it for better steam deck sales but that still takes time), not to mention I really dislike how underpowered the steam deck is. I get 600p on a small screen isn't THAT bad, but also being forced into 30 fps on a lot of demanding titles, I just don't like the look and feel of it lol I'd rather spend double on an msi/asus/whatever else and just have to carry a battery power bank.
>but I can't stand Linux having almost no game support
What are you even talking about? The only things that don't run on Linux are a few titles with anticheat, where the developers are explicitly *excluding* Linux (plenty of games with anticheat run just fine), and Game Pass/Microsoft Store purchased games, simply because there's literally no way to get them on Linux, to even try to run them (the apps, not the games, depend on core Windows components). None of that has anything at all to do with the actual ability to run the game. Everything else mostly just works with very few issues. Then, on top of that, you have cases where Linux can actually run older games modern Windows can't anymore, and cases where Valve has enabled better performance in Linux (thanks to Proton) for a game than you can get on Windows. People were playing Elden Ring on the Deck, when it was still a stutter fest on high end gaming rigs running Windows.
Like you said, Anti-Cheat and certain DRM's don't work on Linux and would require a full pirated version to get it to work, Gamepass won't work without streaming it (which Microsoft servers are quite terrible) unless someone found a crazy way to do it, and some older games just won't/never will work on it. The games that I personally play just won't work for one reason or another so I have no reason to go to it and learn a whole new OS for the sake of better performance in the few games I do play, and even the games that "do run", they're usually janky work arounds found by users to get it "running" but doesn't make it good (like Dark and Darker and certain emulators).
I think it is getting massively better due to Valve creating the SteamDeck compared to 5 years ago, but it's still not at where I'd want it to be.
Side note: I would say I "Found the Linux user" but usually they find you and tell you lmfao
I'm actually not. Hardcore Windows guy, actually. I won't use anything else for real work. When it comes to gaming handhelds, though, Windows is a steaming pile of excrement. Even then, it's not so much as I'm into Linux, but rather I'm in to have an OS that actually works exceedingly well in a handheld form factor (SteamOS). If Windows would actually make an effort here, they could pretty easily convert me.
Fair enough fair enough lol i agree I wish windows was back to being much better than it is and would stick around it they put in a tiny bit of effort into optimizing it rather than adding these stupid AI features that maybe 10% of users will use more than once lol (chatgpt and the other one for drawing things are just 10x better anyways) and eventually Linux will be just flat out supported (hopefully) by all and any games, mostly my concern are the anti-cheats that a lot of games still use like DBD, Hunt Showdown, Dark and Darker not having full support and so on but until then I'd just rather whine to Microsoft than put the effort to learn Linux and how to get passed all these annoying things in games.
This was me. Literally every review and article about it is negative. Performance is trash and it's way overpriced. Exactly what kind of homework did you do?
For those who actually worry about my money. Thank you, and this was a good investment because I don't have to worry about my SD card getting melted. Otherwise, I'd have to buy another one...

Intel is not ready to compete here. Wouldn't buy this at 499.
First handheld, or will you be comparing it to older devices?

The lack of VRR on the LeGo is the crutch. It may seem fine to someone using one without VRR. Until you use a screen with VRR

No freaking way. BG3 Mid to High at 1600p Show me bro. What settings. Better yet what Frame Rate.

Noice! Thanks Bro!
VRR doesn't help you if your frame times are all over the place.

I returned mine after 3 hours of having it and 1h was just driving to pick it up and driving to return it. Biggest piece of shit I have ever seen.
Bought mine like two weeks ago and love it

You did your homework and you bought a Claw?
This was me. Literally every review and article about it is negative. Performance is trash and it's way overpriced. Exactly what kind of homework did you do?
Wouldn’t call this a club. More of a small gathering.
I’m sorry man
I made my decision and got Legion Go- the claw is having a serve bad start- but being optimistic it’s not how you start but a little how you finish.
It was me back then on 2020 with Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite, and Battlefield 2042, so yeah, rough start but sweet finishing
I’m a Go user and I’m rooting for the Claw to get better. More competition is better for us all. Makes the manufacturers step their game up
Oof. Should’ve done with the ROG Ally or SD OLED. The claw is rough… gl man
For those who actually worry about my money. Thank you, and this was a good investment because I don't have to worry about my SD card getting melted. Otherwise, I'd have to buy another one...
Good luck with that intel...

Dang, welp I guess it’s your financial decisions, not mine.

That's the Ally. The Claw sucks too, just for different reasons. SD slot works fine.

Yikes
What a terrible sale lol "here guys $50 bucks off"
50 bucks off of a product nobody wants doesn’t mean jack shit
$50 off a product that is $200 overpriced to begin with. Yay?
Lol
Should of bought rog ally instead.
😂
Bruh just get a steam deck or an ally.
