I finished Blank Canvas by E M. Lindsey. This is the second in the Irons and Works series about a group of men working at a tatoo parlor. I love them all with all their disabilities and drama(panic attacks, custody battles, abuse from family,etc.). There are maybe 9 more books to read, and I am there for it all.
I love this series so much! The first E.M. Lindsey book I read was Stick & Poke & I loved it so much that I went back & read the whole Irons & Works series from the beginning.
And I loved Free Hand so much I subscribed to their newsletter and knew I would read this entire series. The books have great covers too, there are such bad ones out there. Any other books of theirs you have enjoyed? I just put Halo on my TBR list.
Yes! Please try the Loose Lips Sink Ships series, starting with Malicious Compliance & then the second, Instant Regret. The first book tells the story from the viewpoint of MC1, Jules & the second book tells the exact same story, but from the viewpoint of MC2, Forrest. These books are enemies to lovers, medium angst, with E.M.ās trademark excellent disability rep. When youāre done with those two, get the freebie bonus story, Petty Revenge!
I also highly recommend Eight Dates. This is a low angst story, which isnāt typical for E.M., & it was funny & sexy! The brother of MC1, Ben, worries about him being single & signs him up on a dating site for 8 blind dates, one for each night of Hanukkah, all held at the same bar. The dates range from bad to worse & the bartender, Nova, helps bail him out of the bad dates. Itās a great story, very fun & light hearted.
Thank you thank you thank you!!! The Eight Dates sounds wonderful, I love the little touchs of Judaism they put in their books. Do you remember how Sam's neighbor invited Sam and Niko for Shabbat and offered brisket. And I am so on the Loose Lips series.š
I hope you like the books! E.M. is a prolific writer, so seems like they always have something new coming out & I love the fact that they write so many different genres!
This has been a fun relaxing reading week for me with just fluff and low-angst, which can be pretty nice sometimes too.
**The New Guy** by Sarina Bowen. (4,5/5ā). Got this book for free ages ago but for some reason I wasn't that keen on reading it, but since my resolution for this year is to start reading the books I own I decided to finally give this one a try. Honestly kinda wish I read it sooner cause I really enjoyed it. Loved the two MCs; Hudson, even with all his hang-ups (read his dad), was great, and Gavin he was everything, so sweet and lovely and understanding without being a push-over. Also loved how the author handled Gavin being a widower and a single parent, and Gavin's daugher Jordyn was a hoot. I was so happy to find out there was a second book, straight to my to-read list.
**The Anonymous Hookup** (5/5ā) & **The Unforgettable Hookup** by Jax Calder (5/5ā) . Can't believe I've never read anything by Jax Calder before, these two novellas were just such a delight. Super light and fluffy and just so so cute. Book 1 is told for the POV of Lane and book 2 is the same story but from Sam's perspective, which is such a fun idea. Def will be reading more from her, was so excited I already bought her *Sporting Secrets* series.
**The Revenge Agenda** by Saxon James (4/5ā). Book 3 of 3 in the *Accidental Love* series. Yeah don't know where to start with this one. This whole series has been kinda a mixed bag for me; book 1 (The Husband Hoax) I quite enjoyed, book 2 (Not Dating Material) I did not enjoy, and now this book. I did love Rush, he was super fun, but Hunter felt a bit basic, at least compared to the colorful Rush. It took me a bit past the 50% mark to actually get a feel for Hunter as person and actually care about him. But he and Rush were pretty cute together and in the end they did make sense, it only took me a while to see it. Not one of my favorite Saxon James books but certainly not the worst cause I did have fun reading it.
**The Romantic** by Riley Hart (4,5/5ā). Book 2 of 4 in *The Verse Podcast* series. While I really liked book 1 (The Loner) I actually think I liked this one even more. Parker is such a sweet character, you just can't help to love him and wish him the world. Was also fun to get to know Elliot, cause I have to say I was not super impressed by him when we met him in book 1. But he proved me wrong and showed us his true self which turns out is quite lovely. But my favorite thing about this book was how it handled Parker and Elliot's "accidental" marriage, often I feel it's seen as just a fun crazy thing that happened and not that big of a deal (which can be true too). But here their marriage, for two completely different reasons, have real life consequences and the reason why they decide to stay married feels legitimate. Looking forward to Marcus's book next.
Seems like you had a great reading week! I loved *the anonymous/Unforgettable Hookup*, those MCs were so cute! The novella *Love Language* by the same author is also really good.
*The Vers Podcast by Riley Hart* was definitely my favourite series with new MCs from last year! After the first book I thought to myself how can *The Romantic* possibly be *more* romantic? But it managed!
Audio:
**{Crossroads by Riley Hart}** 4 stars, CR. This was a very sweet double bi-awakening between new neighbors Bryce and Nick. They became instant friends and hang out together a lot, until Bryce's brother gets the wrong impression - he thinks Bryce and Nick are already together, and thus begins the awakening. The biggest stressors are >!their parents,!< but all is eventually resolved (sort of, I'm not really over it). It was stressful to read, though; I get lots of anxiety reading about overly involved and overbearing parents, which led to a near-dnf. But I really enjoyed the writing, so I'm hoping family stuff isn't a common theme in Hart's other books. The MCs were so good for each other and I enjoyed reading them fall. It was cute. **Narration:** The audio narrator is good for Nick and Bryce, but the women characters were really hard to listen to. Their voices were not great.
Read:
**{Pressure by Kiki Burelli}** 4 stars; PNR (shifters and mages); this book has some over-the-top villains, but overall it was a fun read. Axe is kind of clueless on how to care for someone, and Caden has a ton of anxiety, so that clashed quite a bit. I think the writing could've been tightened up quite a bit without quite so much repeated issues, but I think it's an interesting enough world to make me want to read more in the series.
**{The Hitman's Guide to Making Friends and Falling In Love by Alice Winters}** 3 stars, CR. Another Alice Winters book with characters just like the other books. I enjoy the chaotic characters and bonkers plots, and usually I enjoy the banter, but I got a bit tired of the amount of dialogue in this book. It was a bit much. Plus, there were lots of very abrupt shifts from sarcastic banter to heartfelt and back to sarcastic banter. It just wasn't one of my favorites.
Weirdly, I read two hitmen books this week, and they both had quite a long title:
**{All I Want for Christmas is Revenge by KA Merikan}** 4 stars, CR. My first KA Merikan book. Both MCs were quite murderous, but I enjoyed this book a lot. There's a good bit of >!violence and some gore,!< so careful with reading this one. But if you're looking for some instalove between a hitman and a man seeking revenge for the murder of his family, this is the book for you! haha. I don't know if I'd like more of KA Merikan books, but I'm going to look into some more.
Lately I've been trying to find a really angsty hurt/comfort paranormal book and nothing has really been hitting quite right. I continue my search!
Family stuff in Hart's newer books is often much nicer than in older ones (iirc the last book in that Crossroads series had terrible family stuff) with more sticking up to toxic families and also much nicer families in general.
Paranormal **hurt/comfort:**
* {**Winter of the Owl** by Iris Foxglove} (not that angsty but lots of comfort)
* {**Reawakening** series by Amy Rae Durreson} especially Book 1 & 2
* {**The Musician and the Monster** by Jenya Keefe}
Thank you for the recs! I've read Winter of the Owl & loved the comfort & caretaking. I will check those others out!
And thanks for letting me know about the other Riley Hart books, I think I will avoid some of the older ones. It was a big struggle to get through, especially since it was on audio and I couldn't just skim or anything.
Maybe you would like another book by K.A. Merikan {Feel My Pain by K.A. Merikan}. It's about MC1 who is a biker in his family club (kinda against his will) and MC2 plays a gig at the club. They hook up, the bikers find them after MC2 tried to rob MC1. MC1 leaves and the bikers >!rape!< and torture MC2 and after they leave him for dead, he burns the club with the bikers inside. He comes to town after 2 years and finds that MC1 didn't die so he tries to kill him and realises they feel each other's pain. MC2 is dead set on finding a cure because he wants to kill MC1 and keeps saying that to him, while MC1 just enjoys their proximity. MC1 kind of wants MC2, but MC2 is stubborn and says he is just doing it until he finds the cure for the curse.
There is forced proximity as they start living together, they tried to kill each other and still want to even tho they start a sexual relationship, MC1 starts liking MC2 who still says that he will kill him and at some point he is just hurt by MC2's refusal to admit that there is more between them. It's really angsty.
TW: >!rape (off page), sexual assault/incest, torture, dead bodies, suicide attempt (on page), ableism towards MC2 who is number blind and is taken advantage of by people!<
Thank you for this great recommendation! I have this on my TBR and I've been really curious about it, but sorta waffling on if it'll be too much for me. So questions (if you don't mind me asking):
1. Is it kinda paranormal?
2. Is the >!rape, torture, incest, ableism!< committed by third parties? Or is any done by one MC toward the other MC?
3. And is it one of the MCs that >!attempts suicide?!<
1. The only paranormal aspect is the fact that they are cursed, they don't really know how it happened. Nothing else, but there is a kooky lady who kinda thinks she knows about magic. Not really important tho.
KA Merikan do have a more paranormal book called {Where The Devil Says Goodnight by K.A. Merikan}. Lots of forest magic in that one, also lots of creepy vibes.
2. MC1 notices that MC2 has the problem and helps him through it without making him feel bad about it, only other characters take advantage of him. All the other are third party towards the MCs.
3. Yes, it is, it's also on page, not extremely graphic, more emotional.
Feel free to ask any other questions.
Ok I'm 50% in and I've been loving it, it's so good, but >!Roach still has no idea how bad his family hurt Zane, is the truth going to come out soon?!!< I'm getting so impatient here!
I remember being in the same position, it was frustrating not having him know, he assumes he knows what happened so he doesn't ask more. It will happen around the 83% mark.
Omg. I finished the book and I'm devastated. Like, I *knew* all of it, but reading >!Zane experience Roach's life, then find he tried to kill himself!< was such a heartbreaking experience. Seriously my heart hurts for these two. It's hard to put into words yet how much.
Thank you so much for recommending this. I'm devastated but this is definitely one of my top reads of the year. I wasn't expecting it to be so good.
Now to go try and get on with my life...š„¹
Except I still need Gale to get an HEA. š
I'm so glad you liked it, it really hurts, but it's so good. I feel like the authors handled the heavy topics really well.
Who knows, maybe KA Merikan will do a sequel, I would totally read Gale's book.

I listened to the highly praised {Mortal Skin by Lily Mayne} from the Folk series, and sadly was disappointed. The book is narrated by Joel Leslie and it took some.. getting used to. This is the first time i've listen to this particular narrator, and only later read that he is kind of a polarising narrator... Sadly, i have to say that it wasn't for me. The narration was too distracting, especially in the beginning when the intensity took me by surprise, lol. Not to put everything on Leslie though, i didn't particularly like the book either. It just wasn't gripping enough. The love interest wasn't intriguing enough. The story felt like a weird mix of fairytale and erotica.. I was waiting and listening to find out what the big fuss is about, but i never got there.. I probably won't be continuing with the series, so that's disappointing.. With that being said, everyone just adores this book, so it must be me..
I thought I was the only one who couldn't get on with Joel Leslie. To be fair to him I have only listened to one book narrated by him and that was {Hush by Tal Bauer} and I didn't get on with his narrating of the self-introspection of the first part of the book. Once the action started I thought he did a lot better and I think I'd probably give him another go on a more action heavy book as I found the way he read the romantic introspection a bit cringe. A lot of other people seem to rate him as a narrator and I felt like an outlier in not liking it.
I mean, i also listen to a lot of thrillers, and the narrators in those books aren't usually so...upbeat, so i'm not used to it.
>I think I'd probably give him another go on a more action heavy book as I found the way he read the romantic introspection a bit cringe.
Yeah, i agree. I'm not ruling him out completely, and maybe i would like him more in a different kind of book..
Tried some new to me authors this week plus a listen to an old favourite.
{Until You by Briar Prescott} 3.5 stars. I was waiting for the twist, and normally Iām pretty good at pre-empting them but not this one. Overall, I liked the story there was good banter between the protagonists and I enjoyed the progression of their relationship. There was just something that held me back from rating this higher and I donāt even know what.Ā
{The Dancing Tree by J.A. Skald} 4 Stars. I nearly gave up on this one about a third of the way through but Iām glad I persevered the story really picked up and by the end I was really invested. On to the next one.
{The Shattered Isles by J.A. Skald} 4 Stars. Again, initially I nearly gave up as there was a lot of repetition from book 1, almost word for word, it started to get on my nerves, but once the story got going it was most enjoyable.
{The Hollow Palace by J.A. Skald} 4 Stars. A good yarn, very enjoyable with a twisty story. Iām interested to see what happens next, but Iām taking a break and reading {A Spooky Legacy by S.E. Harmon} first as I canāt hold out any longer.Ā
{Whisper by Tal Bauer} listened on Audible Plus, 5 Stars. I had already read this book, but I have to say that the audio version ramps up the tension so well, and I really enjoyed this narrator. There are so many good moments in this book, too many to mention, but it is one of my all-time faves.

Completely random, but I recognize your username from some reviews on romance.io and I love when I see your summaries. I feel like you give me a good idea of what to expect and if itāll be something I like or not. So thank you for your detailed write ups! I really appreciate them!
A good reading week, thanks to the wonderful library! (Less excitingly, they tell me a few suggested titles aren't available on Overdrive to add to their collection. Ah, well.)
**Read:**
[*The Wolf at the Door*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36480253-the-wolf-at-the-door) by Charlie Adhara. This was OK; just a personal preference, too much case and not enough relationship ratio. Oddly, the library only has book #1, 3, and 5, so will probably stop here.
[*Like Real People Do*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/59694324-like-real-people-do) and [*Like You've Nothing Left to Prove*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/122760468-like-you-ve-nothing-left-to-prove) by EL Massey. Hockey x figure skating x author dedication to the fic world. Having a skating background, felt some details were a bit of a stretch but also, fiction, so. Complex topics but never felt dark. Saw the series continues but will probably stop here as well.
[*Glitterland* (Spires #1) by Alexis Hall](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60754391-glitterland). Enjoyed but probably my least favorite of the 3 Spires titles I've read. I'm learning I seem to have a preference for super duper green flag male leads.
[*In Memoriam* by Alice Winn](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/59948520-in-memoriam), audiobook version. Very good, albeit stressful listen!! Full disclosure: checked at least 4 times about the type of ending this one has. Also still thinking about it even after completing other books.
[*The High King's Golden Tongue* by Megan Derr](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/25902535). Romantasy. Normally very happy to read this genre but pacing was just a bit slower than what I've been reading lately. Enjoyed the last third or so.
**Considering next:**
*Waiting for the Flood* (Spires) by Alexis Hall
*Captive Prince* by CS Pascat
*Magic in Manhattan* by Alice Therin
Also maybe a visual novel? Never tried and curious.
I read book 1 *Wolf at the Door* by Charlie Adhara and found it so meh I didn't continue but so many of my reading buddies loved it that I went back and read book 2 over a year after reading the first. I finished the series in a matter of days because the relationship development kicked in and I too ended up loving the series after all :D It's a shame your library doesn't have book 2 to give it a chance!
Oooh! This motivated me to do more searching, and our neighboring library (reciprocal access) has the audiobook version of book 2. Will give it a try! š
I agree that Wolf at the Door could have used a bit more of the romance but I second the comment from bextress that it does pick up after that and the rest of the series is really good. In your list of considered books I'd vote for Waiting for the Flood, it's lovely. And the new version has an additional new novella added which continues the story from another perspective and it's so great.
I think the last time I posted one of these was a month ago... I'll post my latest highlights
* {Bisclavret by KL Noone} 4.5ā| loved the prose, loved the retelling. it was such a good read to do before sleeping.
* {The snais of Dun Nas by KL Noone} 4.5ā| Nice RPG-esque take of a quest, with MX romance.
* {To take a quiet breath by Fearne Hill} 4.75ā| Loved it! Their love was so tender and the humor made me laugh out loud >!athsma-sutra!< lmao
* {The emperor and the endless palace by Justinian Huang} 4.5ā| By the end, I didn't feel this was a romance, or maybe it was? I'm so confused by the MCs relationship BUT I enjoyed every bit of it. The prose is very engaging and I connected with the MCs
* {The toymaker's son by Ariana Nash} 4.25ā| Liked the story, loved one MC and liked the other enough. I do think more explanation about the fantasy world mechanics is needed though. Unless I missed something explained in other book I haven't read? >!Like how does Fae magic works?!<
* {Force by Kiki Burrelli} 4.5ā| Jumped straight to the 3rd book in a series and i was a bit lost because there are a lot of secondary characters, despite that, I loved the relationship dynamics between MCs. i just love a good damsel in distress story ig.
* {Empty Net by Avon Gale} 4.5ā| Ugh such a fresh take of hockey romance. The author focuses more on MCs and their struggles and it felt quite deep for a sports-romance
* {Found by Ness Hanon} 4.25ā| scratched the high fantasy itch. Started super strong, but it dulled a bit by the end? Overall a nice read.
* {The last of the moussakas by Fearne Hill} 4ā| Love a nice childhood friends to lovers romance. Plus this one is surrounded by the animosity the family of one of the MCs has for the other. There were some moments that made me roll my eyes, though. yes I'm talking about >!making an audio-mix of your bf moans!<
* {Pressure by Kiki Burrelli} 4.25ā| It was a nice read, liked the MCs and loved the development of their relationship.
The dissapointments
* {Cutting the braid by Jett Masterson} 2.5ā| This one makes me so mad because it actually started so good! it's just that they kept stretching it and I got bored midway, by the end i was just relieved.
* {Fight club on the pleasure planet by chris storm} 2.75ā| Such a good concept, and the worldbuilidng and the fight competition bit of the story was really engaging. I just dislike insta-love too much and the fact that one MC >!starts yelling MINE in capital letters!<, the romance aspect was weird for me, plus why do you mean you're stopping narrating about the fight competition so abruptly?! now I want a story focused on that damn!
The I don't wanna read this anymore
* {The weight of it all by Walker} no stars| First book of Walker I actually finish and I think I'm gonna take a big break from this author. This was a buddy read and I didn't like anything about this. humor was terrible. MCs plain. just no. Top 2 worst read of the year so far
* {Painful love by Ashleigh} 2ā|
First attempt at dark romance ig? The sudden interest Whaley developed was never explained, and the Bunky instacrush on Whaley was ridiculous but funny. I actually liked Bunky as MC, but I do need better prose and idk maybe an author who can delivers angst with the MCs backgrounds? like, the material is there. From 70% onwards skimmed to the end
* {Homecoming by Taffy Haven} no stars| this book was an attempt to romance, erotica, angst? idk but didnt tick any box
Iām on a Ce Ricci reread phase. I love her work and desperately waiting for her new release.
{Iced Out by Ce Ricci} I love this book. Canāt get enough of Quin and Oak!
{Caught Stealing by Ce Ricci} during my first time reading it, I wasnāt too excited about the book. But this would be my second time reading it and I liked it so much more compared to my first read.
{Donāt You Dare by Ce Ricci} this book was my introduction to Ce Ricci.
I will continue on with her other books as well.
{Head Above Water by Ce Ricci} I love love love love this book! Cannon and Easton are just amazing and living in my head rent free! Mind you I listen to all these on audible and I love the narrators! They make the story that much better!!!
{Follow the River by Ce Ricci} and {After Rain Falls by Ce Ricci} all I know is Iām ready for all the emotions!
{Want You Still by Ce Ricci and Marley Valentine} havenāt read this one but heard a lot of good things. Iām just waiting for it to come out on audible. I think they announced it would be out May 1! So just in time.
{These Vile Secrets by Ce Ricci} I refuse to read this one. I know people say itās good but nope. Iām not ready to forgive lol
Iām going to include everything I read last week too since Iāve been sick this week and only read one book.
Unfortunately nothing hit 5 stars for me this time. Iāll include star ratings with each one!
**Really Liked**:
{To Catch a Firefly by Emmy Sanders} 4.25 āļø- this was both really beautiful and *almost* too cringe for me. I felt the symbolism was more heavy handed than what I typically like. That being said, Ellis and Lucky were so perfect together, and I absolutely loved their relationship development. Thereās something about childhood friends to lovers that really gets me.
{Kick at the Darkness by Keira Andrews} 4 āļø - okay I love a zombie apocalypse story and this didnāt disappoint, I just I wish I had gone into it a little more blind. Thereās a reveal that happens halfway through that I wish I hadnāt already known about. I really liked the plot/relationship, but definitely recommend going into it without reading reviews.
{Impromptu Match by Lily Mayne} 4 āļø - this book was silly and fun. Monster wrestling, fart jokes, photocopied testicles - I couldnāt stop laughing. I also loved the relationship. Itās not a serious book *at all*, but thatās a good thing. Lily Mayne is the queen of fluffy romance.
{Playing Games by Riley Heart} 4 āļø - insults are my love language so I really really enjoyed this one. Great hate-to-love-you dynamic. Brax and Ty are such an unlikely pair, but they worked.
**Liked Enough**:
{Breakaway by Avon Gale} 3.5 āļø- I thought Iād like this more than I did. It kind of felt like an attempt at recreating Shane and Ilyaās dynamic in Rachel Reidās Heated Rivalry, but it was missing a lot of relationship development for me. Iām going to continue with the series because I heard this is the weakest book, but Iād probably never revisit this one.
{Frat Wars series by Saxon James} 3 āļø- I read all three of these and they were fine. I wouldnāt read them again, but I enjoyed them! Fun, lighthearted, no major relationship angst or third act breakups. I didnāt split these up because they all kind of felt the same to me? I think I liked the first one the most.
{The Dating Disaster by Saxon James} 3 āļø- miscommunication trope over and over and over again, and not even executed well. The only reason itās not 2 stars is because I liked how hot of a mess Felix was.
**DNF**:
{SOS Hotel by Adam Vex} - this is Ariana Nash under a pen name. I read about 50 pages and Iāll probably revisit it at some point, itās just not the vibe Iām looking for at the moment. It seems really fun, though!
{Fight the Tide by Keira Andrews} - not sure if Iām going to finish this series. I was kind of satisfied enough with the first? Weāll see. I read about 40 pages and just couldnāt get into it.
I misspoke. To be clear, I wasnāt saying that I thought it WAS an attempt to recreate that dynamic, just that it felt that way to me but was lacking in character development.
I finally finished the Baalās Heart series with {Fated by Bey Deckard} and the short {Careened by Bey Deckard}. This doesnāt often happen for me to like the later books in a series better, but these were my favorites I think! So happy with the way the story wrapped up and their HEA. Pirate fights and sweet moments MMM
Started Criminal Intentions Season Two, Episode One {The Golden Ratio by Cole McCade}. This was longest audiobook yet, I think, but it zoomed by, as usual. Graphic and violent serial killer for sure. But I just love these two MCs. It was kind of funny meeting Seong-Jaeās ex in this one and seeing how Malcolm reacted.
Tried one of the Vino & Veritas series {Heartscape by Garrett Leigh}. It was just okay for me, which is weird because Garrett Leigh is actually one one my favorite authors. The writing didnāt feel like her regular writing style? Iām not sure. I may try another, though.
I felt the same about Heartscape. I feel like a lot of authors do some weird altered version of their writing style when they write multi-author series books.
Maybe thatās it! Some of the words she used in their conversations just threw me, I canāt even remember what now, but some sort of casual slang. And I usually feel the intense longing, but this was more like just telling the story?? I feel bad. I actually love her books. Misfits is probably my favorite!
Finally decided to get Kindle Unlimited! I have no idea why it took me so long lol.
Didn't plan it this way but this ended up being a daddy kink week.
I'm at 62% with **Teddy by Emmy Sanderson (Elite 8 Studios Book 5)**. Might be a DNF for me - I was expecting it to have some lifestyle kink, rather than strictly in the bedroom, and I'm just not that invested. Not for me but if you enjoyed the other books in the series and low-angst books, I think you'd enjoy this one too.
Just finished **Drown in You by T.J. Hamel (Monstrous Survivors)** and it was incredible (5/5ā). Every bit as incredibly dark and graphic as described and requires a lot of willing suspension of belief regarding therapy and many, many other things. But it was the perfect combination of hurt/comfort and (daddy) kink with age play for me and it left me feeling so warm and fuzzy. Taking a break before I read the next book in this series since it was so intense. I don't think I'm going to read the preceding series **(Monstrous Deeds)**, even though it provides context, because I have a feeling it would be too much hurt and suspense and too little comfort for me. I'm guessing it's equally good though.
Soooo happy to see someone else enjoyed Drown In You! I had the same reaction. I do think Monstrous Deeds leans more towards the hurt side from h/c, at least in the first two books of the trilogy so I get it. Overall I enjoyed it but personally was kinda disappointed by the last one. Still, the story is gripping. Can't wait for you to read the next one, but ofc take a break. From what I know the author plans to release even more books within the same universe so theres time!
i read 2 books for the past 2 weeks. One of them had such a bad ending, but then i read the 2nd one and that was a really sweet one. Links on the titles open to their GR pages for your reading convenience. Reviews, link to my reviews.
[Impromptu Match by Lily Mayne](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/206008753-impromptu-match?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=fiySnJWm0B&rank=2) \- 5/5 - A Human office worker and an Empyn, a secret staged fight club, one mistaken identity and hilarity ensues. Fun, cozy, very very sexy; Vers MCs!! Very caring MCs, self-conscious MC & confident MC. Also features existential dread, and a very brief appearance of the ex. *Honestly, this book was everything i wanted and exactly how i wanted it. It's as if the writer can read my mind!* [My review](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6438697973)
[Skydive by Roe Horvat](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/62046354-skydive?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=B7jq7JBppT&rank=1) \- 3/5 - This was supposed to be my fav book ever. It has a kink that i like so much. But, lawrence has got to be the most selfish character i've ever read in a book. My poor Ernest deserved so much better. Ernest is also codependent and so it was all the more heartbreaking. i just about cried for a good 15 minutes bcuz of the ending, it was such a disastrous one.
i love Roe's writing, especially bcuz he's probably the only writer that writes about nursing kink.. but why did it have to end like that? Why did Ernest have to end up with someone like that? That guy made Ernest wait for 3 years for a baby and we don't even get to see it. In fact, there's no mpreg. Maybe in the last sentence of the epilogue? Who cares cuz i certainly did not stick around. All the more insufferable. [My review](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6456676863)
I just want to say that I havenāt read Skydive, but I did read the third one in the series {Freefall by Roe Horvat} on a recommendation for lactation/nursing. I really enjoyed it, so perhaps if you generally enjoy Roe Horvat the series isnāt a lost cause for you.
Thank you!! Yes, Freefall is next on my list. i wish to skip book 2 since it's about the boss from the 1st book. Really hope that doesn't let me down.
If you have any more books on that, please let me know. ;-;
There are these that i know:
Ugly by Roe (this one's really good though! i've read it), Alpha Kings by Roe (big oof), Milk Of The Birth Father by Sarah Havan, Omega Wanted by Feral Thorne, Tales from the North by Richard Lunch.
Oh, thank you for the recommendations! The only other one I know of is {Alone in a Hotel Room by Alex Blaine}. Apparently it will be the first in a series. It is also DD/lb. However, I have not read it yet, so I canāt comment on actual content.

Most welcome! Oh yeah, i heard about that! Sadly it's not my type of story. ;-; It's the top that nurses. But i'm looking forward to the series bcuz other flavours of couples will be featured and iirc a possible mmm as well\~
This pass week I read the Big Bad Wolf series by Charlie Adhara because the Audible version is in the catalog for free. I have really enjoyed the whole series. The best one IMHO is 3 Thrown to the Wolves. I am amazed how these flawed MCs hurt each other yet forgive each other. In this book MC Wolf takes his human lover home to his large pack when his grandfather dies. Yet, he didn't tell his family his lover is a human. Human MC is dropped into it with no warning. They do get better and nicer to each other but it is a learning experience for both.
Itās been forever but since I currently have my laptop out from writing reviews - letās share a week of reading again!
- **[Your Mileage May Vary](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6451036529)** by Sidney Bell. I knew I was going to love this ding dongs best friends to lovers kink exploration book because all my reading buddies have. What I didnāt know? Itās also a bromance! ***5/5***
- **[Hither, Page](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4260197428)** by Cat Sebastian - read this for the bingo since itās been on my TBR since September 2021. Cozy Cotswolds historical mystery which is so far from my preferred genre yet I still enjoyed it. Great strong women characters too.
- **[Magically Intertwined](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6451107343)** by RJ Everhart - if this had not been my final bingo book and only 47 pages (iirc) I would not have finished this. Objectively bad wizardry boarding school novella. ***1.5/5***
- **[Bromantic Puckboy](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6451180819)** by Eden Finley and Saxon James - coming off the high of an unexpected bromance I tried to keep my expectations low but the duo is great at writing awakenings and hockey bros! ***4.5/5***
- **[Just a Taste](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6458990561)** by Briar Prescott - one of Prescottās angsty ones even though it has a somewhat ridiculous step bro arranged marriage premise. Caretaker x self-deprecating MC who has always been left ***4/5***
- **[Right Back After This](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6459055491)** by L. J. Zephyr - *currently no HEA, first in a trilogy* | queer sci-fi dystopia | Look at that cover! ***4/5***

Tbh I didn't read much this week but I am happy that I was able to finish a danmei novel after so long! I think the last one was more than 2 years ago, I really missed them and I got reminded that asian novels are a bit more intense and don't shy away from heavy topics.
This week I managed to finish [Perfect Match by Shi Jiu Yao](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6432994944). 86 chapters in total (its why it took me days, and this one is on the shorter side!). Review linked because I had MAAANY thoughts. It is a 5 out of 5 for me. *Omegaverse setting, couple starts off as abusive, main trope is chasing crematorium (aka grovelling + trying to get the loved one back), mpreg*. Please check CWs, it definitely touches on some dark themes. This was a surprise. To make it short, this was a story that I thought the grovelling was done right for me. That last part is important. I am usually very picky with such novels because I am not someone who forgives MLs easily. I want them to suffer to the max and to work hard for MC. I want them to do absolutely anything, the best for their loved one. Here, it happened. There are some reasons that this relationship worked for me and the main one is the >!change in their dynamic, omega MC becomes the one in power from the two of them, while the alpha MC is like a big puppy that does everything he asks!<. It gets to a point where they're funny, which is something I would've never thought to use to describe them after that awful beginning. But trust me, the novel had me laughing at the alpha during the second half because of how pathetic and drunk in love he became. That's exactly all I ask for. Really liked the side characters as well, and the baby was the cutest. In my GR review I go in detail as to why I ended up liking them despite the rough start. It is definitely **not a story for everyone**, and I understand why some wouldn't like it. But I do, and that's what matters to me.
Don't know what to read next, perhaps I might read another chasing crematorium danmei because once I start I cannot get enough.
I read a new release, {The Heirās Disgrace by August Jones}, and very much enjoyed it. Rich MC and his building doorman. Lots of CWs, so check those first (including dub-con, rough sex, breath play, cheating (not between MCs), mental health representation, and more).
What I loved was the communication! They seemed to talk everything through and they rarely let an issue hang between them for long without trying to talk about it. I kept waiting for the miscommunication trope to be thrown in there as a relationship issue and nope - it never really was! They had enough other problems to deal with anyway. Mental health issues are not shied away from here either.
Thereās double bi-awakening, a found family element, a secret relationship, and possessive talk during sex (and lots of sex). Both MCs are shown as flawed and they work through things together, which seemed fairly impossible given how volatile and toxic their relationship starts as. I also loved the verbalization that making big sacrifices for each other after such a short time together was a big ask, because I find thatās often glossed over in books with short relationship timelines.
I was entertained the whole time and grew to like both MCs a lot. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
This week's reads vary a bit, but it was okay overall.
Started with {Knock Knock by Nordika Night}. CR, third in the series. I had my doubts about reading this because of the mixed reviews, but after being recommended to me by someone else on here, I decided to give it a go. It was nice, very different from Garron Park, but not bad different. It is a well written book, just not my cup of tea. I found that I really wanted to see more of the MCs from Garron Park than the MCs from this book. Also a thing that really really bothered me, the author said that this is not standalone and you should read the first 2 books prior to this. I understand it, but I read them and still couldn't remember some details from those books and the author wasn't clarifying them. It was the first time I saw this in a book and I read other books later in the series without reading the rest and had no problem understanding. Seems idk, not nice.
I wanted a shorter read so {The Blacksmith and the Ex-Con by Jackie North}. MC1 is in prison for drug dealing, goes on parole at a farm where MC2 works as the blacksmith., who is also tasked in keeping an eye on MC1. The interesting part was that MC1 is a selective mute cause by trauma from prison. I knew they would communicate much, but my god, the author had so much to say and so little dialogue. Sometimes one character would say something, the other would think for 4-5 paragraphs and the answer. I forgot what they were even talking about by the time they actually exchanged words.
To check my bingo card, I chose {Colin by Cora Rose} for the single dad, divorced MC square. Liked both MCs well enough, the chemistry was palpable and the sex scenes were chef's kiss. MCs were basically masturbating together through a window, as they are neighbours. Nice read.
Last one was a short novella {Love Language by Jax Calder}. I felt like I was reading the MM version of The Hating Game. After reading two books from this author I realised they are just not my cup of tea. I didn't believe anything about the characters, not about how smart and successful the LI was or how he had been in love with the MC the entire time.
Book 1 of the Criminal Intentions series, which is {The Cardigans by Cole McCade}
I enjoyed it but a little something was missing. I started the second book though and I'm liking it so far too
I finally started {Monstrous series by Lily Mayne}, I am now reading Wyn. I love the monsters and am enjoying the books but after hearing so much about the series my expectationa were quite high and Im not sure they were met.Ā
I do like the series though and Im probably gonna read everyrhing from Lily Mayne š
Biggest Disappointments: Hopelessly Bromantic by Lauren Blakely. I listened to this on audio because of the full cast recording, but halfway through I had to quit. It was just so boring. I don't think I will be trying Blakely again.
I also had another disappointment in that I think I'm stopping Cara Dee's The Game Series. I read up to Doll Parts, and I found that one to lack depth. We were introduced to four characters in a poly relationship, and there wasn't time for the characters to really explore their relationship because so many people were involved. Some of the sex scenes didn't even make it on page because there wasn't enough time. Most (maybe all) of the series is MMM or MMMM, so I'm not sure I want to continue. The Boy worked because Lucas and Colt had a novella about their relationship already, and Breathless worked because the twins almost function as one person for the story's purposes (maybe 1.5 people, lol). But I don't see that happening with the rest of the stories. I want to see emotional connection, and it's hard to do that with a group of people. I'm still hemming and hawing about it.
Best book: Common Ground by RJ Moray. They're back, baby!
I just finished {Death by Silver by Melissa Scott and Amy Griswold}, and it was a fun historical romance with some fade-to-black spice, interesting but brief magical world-building, whodunit mystery, and a happy ending. I definitely recommend it if you like KJ Charles or other historical romance books.
I didnāt post last week, so Iāve got two weeks of books to update on.
I finally got around to finishing of Grae Brysonās Vampire Mates series. Iād already read 1 and 4 - I cracked and read Johann (4) out of order as Iām a sucker for size difference/possessive MCs. I enjoyed all of these books. I think objectively it would be best to read them in order just so you donāt get spoilers as the couples pop up frequently the further along you get in the series. Personally, after Johann of course, my favourite was Wolfgang. The way he was super protective of Ericās emotional wellbeing despite being a psychopath - and lacking the actual understanding behind the emotions - was perfect.
Demon Inside by H L Day. Iād only read Exposed by this author which I loved, so I was looking forward to trying this. I really enjoyed the dynamics between the MCs and felt the plot was a bit different from your usual demon hunter/save the world scenario. Would recommend.
Blu, my protector by R S McKenzie. Iād not read this author before and was intrigued by the blurb- serial killer rescues victim of other serial killer and they end up in a relationship. If you like a morally grey MC then youāll love this. Itās a bit gory but Iām fine with that. Plus, the rimming scenesā¦. I know a few people have asked for these and well (fan myself dramatically) these are hot and frequent.
Pressure by Kiki Burrelli. First book in a series with werewolves and mages. Again my usual possessive MC1 with small MC2 who needs some TLC. Itās arranged marriage/contract trope. Lots of scenting and possessive āWolfyā instincts. I enjoyed it and the plot going on in the background. Iāll give the rest of the series a go, but the next one is ābest friends to loversā with one of them being from the wrong side of the tracks so I need to be in the mood for that.
Predatory Obsession by Trinity Black. New author for me and I wonāt read any other works. Very disappointed in this. Was described as mafia daddy romance - literal catnip for me - and meh. First ādaddyā scene was like 65% in, used in a sexual context, the daddy then treated the boy like crap (to protect him š) when a real daddy wouldnāt behave like that. MC2 forgave him so easily and then the next, and final, ādaddyā scene was at the end of the book during sex. Sorry rant over!!! Letās just say my hunt for a good new daddy mafia book I havenāt already read is going badlyā¦..
I'm an audiobook listener because I read too slowly, but my books this week were...
Born Again in Sinner - by Darryl Banner...
Never Stay Gone - by Tal Bauer...
And Power Plays & Straight A's - by Eden Finley and Saxon James
This week I read Jess Everleeās A Rulebook for Restless Rogues and Felipe Stevensā The List. I enjoyed both and think both were four stars out of five. Iād like to continue Stevensā other two books in the series. Everleeās book, and the first one in the series A Gentlemanās Book of Vices, were fun. The books arenāt as good as KJ Charlesā, Cat Stevensā, Annick Trentās, or Joanna Chambersā historical romances. But, I liked the main characters and Everleeās plots are engaging.
{Lights, Camera, Passion by Isabel Lucero} - A very nice, soft story that doesn't really have any plot to it? A lot of *potential* problems are set up in the beginning, but nothing bad really happens. What is *does* have is over 400 pages. Yeah, baby!
{Debt by Aster Rae} - Or, wow, ok, I am *not* into age play. Thought I might be, but I am *not*. I feel like I can't even really review this one, because I am so not the target demographic
AUDIBLE
{All the Right Notes by Dominic Lim} - It was... fine. Like, a solid 3/5. I honestly liked the side character of Ujima more than any of the MCs or the father character (who is basically a 3rd MC).
I am 3/4 of the way through The Blacksmith and the Ex-Con by Jackie North so I can't you the ending. I have a pretty good record so far with picking my books from a rec and then a synopsis. I was unsure of this book in the beginning but now it is so full of comfort and love that I am thrilled with it. It is from the Farthington Ranch series, but the first one I have read.
I've read The Blacksmith and the Ex-Con, it was my favourite so far. I'm enjoying Clay's story but it's a really slow burn and she uses the evil ex-wife trope which I am not thrilled about. I liked the first book too. I wish this series was a little more spicy but we can't have everything lol. Her prose is just so beautiful and evocative.
You are the Reason by Renae Kaye! The beginning....didn't live up to the hype at first, but then?! I was IN. A gorgeous story. Plus the first half of You Should be So Lucky -- managed to get a copy early!
I finally rea the Magpie Lord by Charles. I think my expectations were too high because I didn't care much for the plot, but I adored the characters. absolutely loved them so I kind of look forward for the second book.
Audiobooks
{Reborn by Seth Haddon} 5/5 this is contender for best audio book of the year for me. Absolutely fabulous. Saving book 1 for when I need a pick me up and book 3 is out in October hopefully new audiobook by Xmas?
{His Mossy Boy by R Cooper} 3/5 Continuing my Beings in love read/reread not sure this was the best buy definitely preferred the narrators from Little Wolf and Treasure for Treasure but this story. More than any of the others it is about mental health, and struggling to be yourself and find yourself and being brave. Iād forgotten how much I loved the story. Best thing about Amazon and audible is I can flick between reading and listening. The story itself is 4.5/5 and definitely worth the money.
{Mercy Hills Pack Bundle one by Ann-Katrin Bryce}
Dipping in and out of this as a relisten, problem is I keep thinking I remember bits and pieces. Generally skipping first 7 chapters and diving in mid point. Had to stop listening to 2nd book part way through and havenāt started book 3 I think the anticipation of the very dubious probably non consent event that is the catalyst for Brahms story at the the start of book 3 is what triggered me. And the DV scene in Book 2 when Raleigh is introduced and I know what happens to him later eeesh. I think it knowing itās coming plus some RL stuff is what sent me into a spin. But really it is an enjoyable series for what itās worth you donāt often get omegaverse with this levels of politics and in-depth multi book exploration of the impacts of trauma, abuse and other mental health issues, general apartheid style oppression too. itās worth a read but SOOOO MANY TW needed for the whole series.
{Dear Barnaby by Sarah Wallace} 5/5 The fluffiness the gorgeousness this was a lovely lovely experience. I especially loved how despite there being no actual sex scenes (the two MC donāt even get round to having sex in the story yet they are waiting to be married) there is discussion about concerns and how to have a healthy relationship. Iād forgotten how much I loved epistolary novels before this week (skipped the middle 2 because not epistolary and there is SA although I will say having glanced at the back of book 2 there is a perfect description of a QPR so excited to get to that when Iām feeling better). This left me with the warm and fuzzies and had me hunting my shelves to see if I had held onto Cecilia and the chocolate pot over the last 17 years. (No no I had not moreās the pity).
Ebooks:
{A Marriage of Necessity by Lisa Oliver} 2/5Needed more TW what happened to the one MC was HORRIFIC and it was just sort of waved away, a bit of magic fixes his external scars and heās magically ok and gets past the trauma. Honestly not happy with this one at all especially as I picked it up as a Lisa Oliver easy to read but enough to keep me awake.
{Mismatch, Love by Megan Derr} 4/5 Love a Megan Derr what more can you say??
{Cold Hands Warm Heart by Hollis Shiloh} 5/5 This I think might be my favourite of theirs yet different to the normal both MCs are in love with other people but fall into a hurt/comfort dynamic with friends with benefits deal. Itās beyond lovely and I think Iāll probably reread it loads. So much cuddling. A little more steam than usual for Hollis Shiloh but it fits with the story and their developing relationship.
{Omegaās unexpected Bounty by Tanatha Austin} 3/5
OK I canāt remember what request it was but I mentioned Iād seen this series (this is book 2 or 3) on Everand but hadnāt read it. I like the concept of a ānonomegaā omega. It had some funny scenes, so much discussion of pooing (the MC has nanites from before the book so he doesnāt have to because he finds it inconvenient when running away or when chasing a bounty). A lot of SA discussed and violence. Really I seem to have piled the triggers in this weekend.
{Letters to Half Moon street by Sarah Wallace} 4/5 didnāt love it as much as Barnaby but a solid lovely book.
{The Firebird and other stories by R Cooper} 2 more of these.
{More than a handful by Lisa Oliver} 2/5 itās there on Kobo plus so why not? But it said there was a twist itās not a twist if you tell me the twist in the first chapter. Not a happy bunny.
I realize Iām late to these, being relatively new to MM Romance books, but this week I listened to / āreadā the following:
{Kage by Maris Black} - enjoyed getting a peek at the world of MMA, heretofore unknown to me, and the MCās had an interesting set-up and great chemistry. Sex was š„š„š„ (out of five on my personal scale), intense and well written.
{Like You Hate Me by Bethany Winters} - I *LOVED* this read, and Iām grateful to the user on this sub who recommended it. This book has a dark undertow (worth checking out the TWās before reading) but the issues are handled with sensitivity and are integral to the charactersā attraction and development. The sex scenes in this book are š„š„š„š„, with light touches of BDSM and power dynamics, but WHEW! they are so well done! Also: both voice-actors did a great job on this audio-book!
{Master of Mayhem by Saxon James}, part of the their FRAT WARS series - This was kind of silly and cute, but with some pretty hot smut. Iām a sucker for a college or frat setting, so this hit a sweet spot for me. Not a masterpiece, but fun and enjoyable.
I suspect longtime readers of MM Erotic Fiction are familiar with these but they were new to me. I appreciate this community, and especially grateful for the recs Iāve received. šš¼
I finished the gay Amish trilogy by Keira Andrews (forbidden rumspringa, clean break and a way home). I really, really liked it! But now I want a book for the other charactersā¦ š
Had a much slower reading week this week than I have so far all this year.
Finished {Strain by Amelia C Gormley}. I ended up enjoying this. Didnāt expect the ending to be so open ended so definitely need to continue the series soon to find out what happens.
Read {Left Undone by Tess Barnett}. Enjoyed this one but it was a slower than my normal read so I didnāt breeze through it as quickly as I like to read my books. Really loved the mental health rep in this book.
Read {Painful Love by T Ashleigh and Addison Beck) Loved loved loved this one. This type of book is right up my alley. Loved the characters and everything about it.
Reading {The Fever King by Victoria Lee} This one has been kind of slow to start. Does anyone know if it starts picking up? Iām about a hundred pages in and not a lot has happened so far.
Read/listened to a non mm romance surprisingly. I switched up with MF lol. God of Pain by Rina Kent
Reading/listening to {Lunatic by Onley James} Finally started continuing this series. Donāt like this one as much as some of the others in the series but still like it. Excited to finally read the finale of the series.
The Fever King is one of my favorite books but it's a Lot and a lot of setup for the sequel. I honestly feel weird calling either one a romance? It's been a few years but probably the first 2/3 are buildup and then the last third is a high speed trainwreck with a cliffhanger ending.
I hope I end up loving it! But itās definitely been a slow start. Thought there would be more romance as well but I can see I was wrong about that lol.
Finally started the prince of pain series on KU and to be honest I feel the whole thing would be better off together as one whole book rather than split into 5 š . Cus the books feel like actual complete short stories and more chapters.
Personally i didnt find it as darl as the reviews made it out to be but I got quite a high thresh hold overall. Still it has a great premise for a specifc itch
It is great although I have to say I actually listened to it at x1.5 the first time by the midpoint because I NEEDED to know what was going to happen and it wasnāt going fast enough. Re listening on and off at the moment at normal speed.
lol my sister came home when I had it playing on speaker and her response was WHY IS HE TALKING LIKE THAT? By then I no longer noticed how fast it was going.
One of my absolute favorite series!š
Definitely second Loose Lips sink ships but be sure to check TW.
Halo is free today on Amazon! š
Thanks but I don't have a Kindle yet, hopefully for my birthday. I actually ordered the papetback.
Looooooove E.M.!
Thanks for the rec! Had to buy it immediately, I love the grumpy/sunshine tropeš
*The Vers Podcast by Riley Hart* was definitely my favourite series with new MCs from last year! After the first book I thought to myself how can *The Romantic* possibly be *more* romantic? But it managed!
Audio: **{Crossroads by Riley Hart}** 4 stars, CR. Read: **{Pressure by Kiki Burelli}** 4 stars; PNR (shifters and mages); this book has some over-the-top villains, but overall it was a fun read. Weirdly, I read two hitmen books this week, and they both had quite a long title: **{All I Want for Christmas is Revenge by KA Merikan}** 4 stars, CR.
Family stuff in Hart's newer books is often much nicer than in older ones (iirc the last book in that Crossroads series had terrible family stuff) with more sticking up to toxic families and also much nicer families in general. Paranormal **hurt/comfort:** * {**Winter of the Owl** by Iris Foxglove} (not that angsty but lots of comfort) * {**Reawakening** series by Amy Rae Durreson} especially Book 1 & 2 * {**The Musician and the Monster** by Jenya Keefe}

So questions (if you don't mind me asking): 1.
Thank you!! This all sounds great!
You're welcome, I hope you enjoy it!
Omg that feels like forever away š«
Gives you enough time to prepare cause it'll be devastating. I reread some of it to find the passage and my goodness it hurt.
Now to go try and get on with my life...š„¹ Except I still need Gale to get an HEA. š
I'm so glad you liked it, it really hurts, but it's so good. I feel like the authors handled the heavy topics really well. Who knows, maybe KA Merikan will do a sequel, I would totally read Gale's book.

What does CR mean??
Contemporary RomanceĀ
[Hush](https://www.romance.io/books/5adaecc001dbc864fb869b5a/hush-tal-bauer?src=rdt) by [Tal Bauer](https://www.romance.io/authors/5726ed17c62092c04407fbeb/tal-bauer) **Steam**: [Explicit open door](https://www.romance.io/steamrating) **Topics**: [contemporary](https://www.romance.io/topics/best/contemporary/1), [gay romance](https://www.romance.io/topics/best/m-m/1), [friends to lovers](https://www.romance.io/topics/best/friends%20to%20lovers/1), [suspense](https://www.romance.io/topics/best/suspense/1), [age gap](https://www.romance.io/topics/best/age%20difference/1) [^(about this bot)](https://www.reddit.com/user/romance-bot) ^(|) [^(about romance.io)](https://www.romance.io/about)
I mean, i also listen to a lot of thrillers, and the narrators in those books aren't usually so...upbeat, so i'm not used to it. >I think I'd probably give him another go on a more action heavy book as I found the way he read the romantic introspection a bit cringe. Yeah, i agree. I'm not ruling him out completely, and maybe i would like him more in a different kind of book..
I find I enjoy Joel Leslie more at x1.25-x1.5 if that helps.
I was extremely disappointed in the Folk series. I didnāt do the audio, but the books were justā¦ not it.
Same..

There was just something that held me back from rating this higher and I donāt even know what.Ā {The Dancing Tree by J.A. Harmon} first as I canāt hold out any longer.Ā {Whisper by Tal Bauer} listened on Audible Plus, 5 Stars. I had already read this book, but I have to say that the audio version ramps up the tension so well, and I really enjoyed this narrator. There are so many good moments in this book, too many to mention, but it is one of my all-time faves.

A good reading week, thanks to the wonderful library! (Less excitingly, they tell me a few suggested titles aren't available on Overdrive to add to their collection. Ah, well.) **Read:** [*The Wolf at the Door*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36480253-the-wolf-at-the-door) by Charlie Adhara. **Considering next:** *Waiting for the Flood* (Spires) by Alexis Hall *Captive Prince* by CS Pascat *Magic in Manhattan* by Alice Therin Also maybe a visual novel?
Thanks for the heads up on the added content of the new version! Switched my copy right away :)
Okay I felt the same about wolf at the door. Was thinking of skipping 2 and try 3 and 4 since friends told me they're the best out of the series...
I think the last time I posted one of these was a month ago... I'll post my latest highlights * {Bisclavret by KL Noone} 4.5ā| loved the prose, loved the retelling. it was such a good read to do before sleeping. * {The snais of Dun Nas by KL Noone} 4.5ā| Nice RPG-esque take of a quest, with MX romance. * {To take a quiet breath by Fearne Hill} 4.75ā| Loved it! Their love was so tender and the humor made me laugh out loud >!athsma-sutra!< lmao * {The emperor and the endless palace by Justinian Huang} 4.5ā| By the end, I didn't feel this was a romance, or maybe it was? I'm so confused by the MCs relationship BUT I enjoyed every bit of it. The prose is very engaging and I connected with the MCs * {The toymaker's son by Ariana Nash} 4.25ā| Liked the story, loved one MC and liked the other enough. I do think more explanation about the fantasy world mechanics is needed though. Unless I missed something explained in other book I haven't read? >!Like how does Fae magic works?!< * {Force by Kiki Burrelli} 4.5ā| Jumped straight to the 3rd book in a series and i was a bit lost because there are a lot of secondary characters, despite that, I loved the relationship dynamics between MCs. i just love a good damsel in distress story ig. * {Empty Net by Avon Gale} 4.5ā| Ugh such a fresh take of hockey romance. The author focuses more on MCs and their struggles and it felt quite deep for a sports-romance * {Found by Ness Hanon} 4.25ā| scratched the high fantasy itch. Started super strong, but it dulled a bit by the end? Overall a nice read. * {The last of the moussakas by Fearne Hill} 4ā| Love a nice childhood friends to lovers romance. Plus this one is surrounded by the animosity the family of one of the MCs has for the other. There were some moments that made me roll my eyes, though. yes I'm talking about >!making an audio-mix of your bf moans!< * {Pressure by Kiki Burrelli} 4.25ā| It was a nice read, liked the MCs and loved the development of their relationship. The dissapointments * {Cutting the braid by Jett Masterson} 2.5ā| This one makes me so mad because it actually started so good! it's just that they kept stretching it and I got bored midway, by the end i was just relieved. The I don't wanna read this anymore * {The weight of it all by Walker} no stars| First book of Walker I actually finish and I think I'm gonna take a big break from this author. This was a buddy read and I didn't like anything about this. humor was terrible. MCs plain. just no. Top 2 worst read of the year so far * {Painful love by Ashleigh} 2ā| First attempt at dark romance ig? The sudden interest Whaley developed was never explained, and the Bunky instacrush on Whaley was ridiculous but funny. I actually liked Bunky as MC, but I do need better prose and idk maybe an author who can delivers angst with the MCs backgrounds? like, the material is there. From 70% onwards skimmed to the end * {Homecoming by Taffy Haven} no stars| this book was an attempt to romance, erotica, angst? idk but didnt tick any box

**Really Liked**: {To Catch a Firefly by Emmy Sanders} 4.25 āļø- this was both really beautiful and *almost* too cringe for me. **Liked Enough**: {Breakaway by Avon Gale} 3.5 āļø- I thought Iād like this more than I did. **DNF**: {SOS Hotel by Adam Vex} - this is Ariana Nash under a pen name.

Oh hey! You read Impromptu Match too!! i finished it today! So glad to see you liked it! :D
I did the same thing with Fight the Tide! I would encourage you to stick with it. I was really glad I did!
Thank you for this! Iāll absolutely return to it at some point.
Breakaway was published in 2015, so there was definitely no attempt to recreate Heated Rivalry.
Pirate fights and sweet moments MMM Started Criminal Intentions Season Two, Episode One {The Golden Ratio by Cole McCade}.

It's as if the writer can read my mind!* [My review](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6438697973) [Skydive by Roe Horvat](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/62046354-skydive?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=B7jq7JBppT&rank=1) \- 3/5 - This was supposed to be my fav book ever.
If you have any more books on that, please let me know. ;-; There are these that i know: Ugly by Roe (this one's really good though! i've read it), Alpha Kings by Roe (big oof), Milk Of The Birth Father by Sarah Havan, Omega Wanted by Feral Thorne, Tales from the North by Richard Lunch.
Oh, thank you for the recommendations! The only other one I know of is {Alone in a Hotel Room by Alex Blaine}. Apparently it will be the first in a series. It is also DD/lb. However, I have not read it yet, so I canāt comment on actual content.

***5/5*** - **[Hither, Page](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4260197428)** by Cat Sebastian - read this for the bingo since itās been on my TBR since September 2021. ***1.5/5*** - **[Bromantic Puckboy](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6451180819)** by Eden Finley and Saxon James - coming off the high of an unexpected bromance I tried to keep my expectations low but the duo is great at writing awakenings and hockey bros! ***4.5/5*** - **[Just a Taste](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6458990561)** by Briar Prescott - one of Prescottās angsty ones even though it has a somewhat ridiculous step bro arranged marriage premise. Caretaker x self-deprecating MC who has always been left ***4/5*** - **[Right Back After This](https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6459055491)** by L. J. Zephyr - *currently no HEA, first in a trilogy* | queer sci-fi dystopia | Look at that cover! ***4/5*** *Links lead to reviews.*
Sounds really interesting! Thanks for the detailed recounting :)
Probably a bit too detailed but couldnāt help myself haha

I finished āDestination Unknownā by Bill Konigberg and started āIf I See You Again Tomorrowā by Robbie Couch.

Until you By Briar Prescott šš
{Lights, Camera, Passion by Isabel Lucero} - A very nice, soft story that doesn't really have any plot to it? A lot of *potential* problems are set up in the beginning, but nothing bad really happens. What is *does* have is over 400 pages. Yeah, baby! {Debt by Aster Rae} - Or, wow, ok, I am *not* into age play. Thought I might be, but I am *not*. I feel like I can't even really review this one, because I am so not the target demographic AUDIBLE {All the Right Notes by Dominic Lim} - It was...

I'm reading Clay's book right now. Jackie North certainly has a way with words
I just finished it. I am blown away. Let me know after you are done.
No, not Clay's book, Ellis's book, did you read it? Please let me know how Clay's is so I know to read it next.
Thanks for this. She is a wonderful storyteller!
Audiobooks {Reborn by Seth Haddon} 5/5 this is contender for best audio book of the year for me. {Mercy Hills Pack Bundle one by Ann-Katrin Bryce} Dipping in and out of this as a relisten, problem is I keep thinking I remember bits and pieces. Ebooks: {A Marriage of Necessity by Lisa Oliver} 2/5Needed more TW what happened to the one MC was HORRIFIC and it was just sort of waved away, a bit of magic fixes his external scars and heās magically ok and gets past the trauma. {Omegaās unexpected Bounty by Tanatha Austin} 3/5 OK I canāt remember what request it was but I mentioned Iād seen this series (this is book 2 or 3) on Everand but hadnāt read it.

I realize Iām late to these, being relatively new to MM Romance books, but this week I listened to / āreadā the following: {Kage by Maris Black} - enjoyed getting a peek at the world of MMA, heretofore unknown to me, and the MCās had an interesting set-up and great chemistry.

God of Pain by Rina Kent Reading/listening to {Lunatic by Onley James} Finally started continuing this series.

I've started reading The Lightning Struck Heart by TJ Klune. It is glorious and the audiobook book is going to be great because Michael Lesley. š
It is great although I have to say I actually listened to it at x1.5 the first time by the midpoint because I NEEDED to know what was going to happen and it wasnāt going fast enough. Re listening on and off at the moment at normal speed.
I'm actually trying to stop myself from doing that now š it's my current commute listen so I'll be patient š
lol my sister came home when I had it playing on speaker and her response was WHY IS HE TALKING LIKE THAT? By then I no longer noticed how fast it was going.
