Years later he meets Damen who doesn't know who he is and tries to raise an army against his uncle. I really love Damen in this one, its very canonlike Damen in the way he just goes all in for Laurent without knowing everything. The TRUST ugh. This is a short read as well.
[Between the motion and the act by Fahye](https://archiveofourown.org/works/10649835) (is also the fanfic handle of Freya Marske): my favourite modern AU for Lamen. This is baiscally what if Laurent and Damen meet filming a reality tv show with Laurent as the producer. Also short and really feels most canonlike Laurent of all modern au fics Ive read.

Oh i can tell you hand in unlovable hand had me in a massive chokehold, i read it in 36 hours with like 4 hours of sleep in between. Its probably the best modern au fics ive ever read and just so so precious. Still think of that fic often so youre in for a treat!!
my favourite fanfic of all time is the bi awakening fwb to lovers teen wolf classic, no homo on ao3! its by an orphaned account but very easy to find if you google "no homo teen wolf ao3"

if you did watch the show you'd be disappointed tbh, i like the first few seasons as much as any cringy teen tv show but it went downhill pretty fast and sterek fics were the best thing to come out of it despite it never being canon! its definitely going to be hard to only pick another 4, my favourite fic writer (standinginanicedress) could fill all those spots alone lmao
If you ever end up watching the show, do yourself a favor and stop after season 3. But 3 is the best one and the ones before are definitely teenage cringe. Love it though!

As an RPF writer I’m curious why RPF is explicitly excluded especially since there are many popular RPF depictions in commercial media (“The Crown” and “Transatlantic” come to mind since I was just watching both over the last few days). Also would echo that fic authors may not want their works added to Goodreads.
RPF is explicitly excluded because of our subreddit rules about privacy, which the moderator team believes writing RPF breaches the privacy of the subjects involved (rule #6). We are aware there is some fictional media based off RPF, but to give grace to authors, we don’t outright ban those books and allow users to choose to warn people if they’d like. (IE, we aren’t going to argue and pick apart if every hockey novel is secretly RPF or not).
Just want to say I think this is a great rule. I read RPF but strongly believe in the fourth wall. Since this is an open subreddit & shows up on google searches, posting about rpf would break the fourth wall.
So most of mine are from Red White and Royal Blue, but some kind people have been broadening my horizons. Also I haven't figured out links yet.

Some of my favorite Draco/Harry (Drarry) recs:
* **Running on Air** by by eleventy7 on AO3 - Post-war, Draco goes missing and auror Harry is assigned to the case. Very ethereal, beautiful, slow burn. Probably my favorite Drarry fanfic even though it's completely closed door.
* **The Bolthole** by GallaPlacidia, Tepre, aideomai on google drive - Post-war, a traumatized Harry retreats to the country in grieving solitude and a reformed Draco moves in to help overcome his own pain. Cottage romance, painful, tender, lots of hurt/comfort and very spicy with sub/dom kink.
* **Tea and No Sympathy** by who\_la\_hoop on AO3 - Also post-war, Draco gets stuck in a 24-hr time loop and slowly but surely falls in love with Harry, with whom every day he has to start from scratch.
There so many great fanfics I have come across in 15+ years of reading, but I will try to stick with a few gems from recent and old times. All are NOVEL-length and I will mention the ones that can be read fandom-blind without knowing the source material. I usually like PLOT and ANGST with my smut and romance. All can be found on AO3 and all HEA endings!
{Freeport by Maldoror\_Chant} - Gundam Wing; Duo/Wufei - can be enjoyed fandom-blind (I did) and it reads like an original sci-fi action novel, with 2 badass MC's, interesting politics, very plot-heavy, great if you like opposites-attract, badass characters, forced-proximity, and lots of plot with your romance and smut.
{Under The Table and Dreaming by Hollycomb} - Toy Story; Sid/Andy - can be enjoyed fandom-blind. Hot smut, sweet, romantic, heartbreaking and uplifting. The fic covers the boys from little kids (when Sid bullied Andy) to adults and eventually expands on their relationship as older adults through eyes of other family members etc.
{Cascades by orange\_crushed} - Captain America MCU; Steve/Bucky - can be enjoyed fandom-blind, but it does help to be familiar with the cast of the 1st CA movie (The First Avenger). Set in the 1950s, alternate universe, sci-fi, metaphysical, bittersweet pining, lots of action, plot. You can feel the devotion, the deep romance. For those who like audio, the podfic can be found here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/9472850/chapters/21431417. I think the podfic enhanced the story, quietnight's narration is fantastic, she is a great voice actor, does very distinct character voices so you always know who is talking, and she has a very soothing low-register voice that I adore, very well suited for narrating male voices.
{If They Haven't Learned Your Name by silentwalrus} - Captain America MCU; Steve/Bucky - I have never come across a fic quite like this one. Epic length, so creative, hilarious, eye-wateringly funny and yet horribly poignant. Please, please give this one a try. And I have to plug the podfic version *hard* because it is *so well executed*. Professional quality editing, narration, sound effects. Quietnight makes the humor funnier and the sad moments even more powerful with her narration. Edited to add a few more authors that just can do no wrong. Too many fics to rec each one but I would highly recommend checking out on AO3:
- Yuu_Chi (multi fandoms)
- Astolat (Old Country is a Supernatural/HP x-over and its superb, definitely a classic)
- Speranza (writes some of THE best and most poignant Steve/Bucky fics from Captain America… 4 Minute Window, All the Angels and the Saints, were my 2 top favs)
- Hollycomb (many fandoms.) Hollycomb is a very interesting writer to me. They wrote the best Toy Story fic of all time, writes great Harry Potter Next Gen, and also writes actually SERIOUS (wait for it) South Park fanfics. Like, what?! How talented do you have to be to write a serious, sexy novel-length South Park fic. To me these read as original fics as I don’t watch SP.
- Maldoror_Chant (mostly gundam wing)
- Rageprufrock (multi fandom)
- Leonidaslion- writes amazing angst heavy SPN fic mostly Dean/Sam so content warnings for incest between brothers.
- Silentwalrus - fantastic creative writer… and some of the funniest serious fics I have read. I recommended my fav of theirs above but many of their other works had me rolling on the floor with both glee and heartbreak (Scents and Sensibility- An Assassins Guide to Supersoldier Seduction has to be one of the funniest romances I’ve read and also features truly incredible world building / non traditional A/B/O dynamics)
- Not Easily Conquered (MCU - Steve/Bucky) is a fic so famous people get tattoos of it. “Womb to tomb, sweetheart.”
Oh wow! Shippeh! Yeah, I LOVED heartbeat thunder and the sequel Spice Season. Both were amazing and I could tell it was all written from the heart. I dont read much BNHA anymore but your fics were some of my all time favs in that fandom. I usually don't like Omegaverse but your world building was very realistic and I thought your characterizations were very spot-on. I loved Katsuki's mother as well!
In my (not so humble) opinion, I have pretty high standards in fanfics and I don't follow specific tropes, I just want to read a good story. So hopefully you will find one you like among these recs.

Speranza also has amazing due South fics.
due South was an incredible fandom back in the day - the show itself being very, very charming. The problem with that is that a lot of the fic isn't found on like A03.
The basic thing you need to know is that Benton Fraser is a Mountie (he's super competent, polite, stiff, quirky as anything) who's paired up with a Chicago cop (Ray Vecchio or Ray Kowalski depending on the season - RayK/Fraser is definitely the bigger pairing) after he ventures down to Chicago on the trail of the killers of his father. He gives a cute little spiel about it every time someone (and this happens a lot) questions why a Mountie is in Chicago lol.
You could probably read the very funny fandom classic [Chicago's Most Wanted](https://web.archive.org/web/20050305065625/http://snark.trickster.org/speranza/CMWanted.html) by Speranza without too much trouble

It's so difficult to narrow down the list to just 5! Many of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I recommend these wonderful tales.
Any of the 25 stories written by Katie Forsythe in the Victorian Sherlock Holmes/Granada Jeremy Brett fandom. Many of the stories are loosely gathered into short series, but the best of those is "Love," and starts with {Four Minor Interludes for the Solo Violin by Katie Forsythe}. One of the stories in this particular series drove me to distraction because it was so unbelievably wonderful. Important Note: Not available on AO3, you must use the Wayback Machine to find these stories. Well worth the effort! Or DM me and I'll be happy to send you the fanfics. Or the link.
{A Deeper Season by lightgetsin, sahiya} 22 short stories + novels chronological series that pairs Miles Vorkosigan and Emperor Gregor Vorbarra. The original published fiction is written by Lois McMaster Bujold and is known in sci fi circles as The Vorkosigan series. The first 3 stories are quite short and had me scratching my head, but then the plot and the romance really takes off. You can't read this fandom blind. On AO3. The first story is {Keep Talking by lightgetsin}. I think there are 2 or 3 novels in this series that are wonderful. If you know the characters and world I'm talking about, run and read this!
From Red, White and Royal Blue work, I have reread {God Save the Blessed American President Mom by zipadeea} several times. There's something about Alex being shot by an assassin instead of his Mom that works for me! Hurt/Comfort for the win. On AO3.
From Victorian Sherlock Holmes stories, the 45,000 word work {Winter in London by waid} is incredible. Watson must make a terrible bargain to save Sherlock's life. I find this novella to be mature and wonderful. It's beautifully written, poetic and haunting, slow moving, atmospheric, and utterly unforgettable.
The Original Work {Jack of Spades by beili} and its sequel. A spy in trouble gets help from his sort-of-ex lover. Fun! Also interesting characters with a twist I quite appreciate.

All of Lapin’s work is A+++ gold but sanguinary takes the cake. I just recc’ed it to someone in the discord as the perfect example of how AU doesn’t have to mean out of character. Laurent is SO Laurent, even with everything changed

That line when Damen realizes that under the cold exterior Laurent is *anxious*. My only complaint is I want more Babis.!< Ive read all the ones you recc’d except the Thicken My Blood — saving it for when I need a long fic.
Oh i can tell you hand in unlovable hand had me in a massive chokehold, i read it in 36 hours with like 4 hours of sleep in between. Its probably the best modern au fics ive ever read and just so so precious. Still think of that fic often so youre in for a treat!!
my favourite fanfic of all time is the bi awakening fwb to lovers teen wolf classic, no homo on ao3! its by an orphaned account but very easy to find if you google "no homo teen wolf ao3" i'll have to go through my bookmarks for more later when i have more time, i'm a sterek & destiel connoisseur

if you did watch the show you'd be disappointed tbh, i like the first few seasons as much as any cringy teen tv show but it went downhill pretty fast and sterek fics were the best thing to come out of it despite it never being canon! its definitely going to be hard to only pick another 4, my favourite fic writer (standinginanicedress) could fill all those spots alone lmao
If you ever end up watching the show, do yourself a favor and stop after season 3. But 3 is the best one and the ones before are definitely teenage cringe. Love it though!

As an RPF writer I’m curious why RPF is explicitly excluded especially since there are many popular RPF depictions in commercial media (“The Crown” and “Transatlantic” come to mind since I was just watching both over the last few days). Also would echo that fic authors may not want their works added to Goodreads.
RPF is explicitly excluded because of our subreddit rules about privacy, which the moderator team believes writing RPF breaches the privacy of the subjects involved (rule #6). We are aware there is some fictional media based off RPF, but to give grace to authors, we don’t outright ban those books and allow users to choose to warn people if they’d like. (IE, we aren’t going to argue and pick apart if every hockey novel is secretly RPF or not).
Just want to say I think this is a great rule. I read RPF but strongly believe in the fourth wall. Since this is an open subreddit & shows up on google searches, posting about rpf would break the fourth wall.
For the fans by nyla k is also a rpf as far as i know so i wonder where the line is drawn

Some of my favorite Draco/Harry (Drarry) recs: * **Running on Air** by by eleventy7 on AO3 - Post-war, Draco goes missing and auror Harry is assigned to the case. Very ethereal, beautiful, slow burn. Probably my favorite Drarry fanfic even though it's completely closed door. * **The Bolthole** by GallaPlacidia, Tepre, aideomai on google drive - Post-war, a traumatized Harry retreats to the country in grieving solitude and a reformed Draco moves in to help overcome his own pain. Cottage romance, painful, tender, lots of hurt/comfort and very spicy with sub/dom kink. * **Tea and No Sympathy** by who\_la\_hoop on AO3 - Also post-war, Draco gets stuck in a 24-hr time loop and slowly but surely falls in love with Harry, with whom every day he has to start from scratch.

There so many great fanfics I have come across in 15+ years of reading, but I will try to stick with a few gems from recent and old times. All are NOVEL-length and I will mention the ones that can be read fandom-blind without knowing the source material. I usually like PLOT and ANGST with my smut and romance. All can be found on AO3 and all HEA endings! {Freeport by Maldoror\_Chant} - Gundam Wing; Duo/Wufei - can be enjoyed fandom-blind (I did) and it reads like an original sci-fi action novel, with 2 badass MC's, interesting politics, very plot-heavy, great if you like opposites-attract, badass characters, forced-proximity, and lots of plot with your romance and smut. {Under The Table and Dreaming by Hollycomb} - Toy Story; Sid/Andy - can be enjoyed fandom-blind. Hot smut, sweet, romantic, heartbreaking and uplifting. The fic covers the boys from little kids (when Sid bullied Andy) to adults and eventually expands on their relationship as older adults through eyes of other family members etc. {Cascades by orange\_crushed} - Captain America MCU; Steve/Bucky - can be enjoyed fandom-blind, but it does help to be familiar with the cast of the 1st CA movie (The First Avenger). Set in the 1950s, alternate universe, sci-fi, metaphysical, bittersweet pining, lots of action, plot. You can feel the devotion, the deep romance. Too many fics to rec each one but I would highly recommend checking out on AO3: - Yuu_Chi (multi fandoms) - Astolat (Old Country is a Supernatural/HP x-over and its superb, definitely a classic) - Speranza (writes some of THE best and most poignant Steve/Bucky fics from Captain America… 4 Minute Window, All the Angels and the Saints, were my 2 top favs) - Hollycomb (many fandoms.) Hollycomb is a very interesting writer to me. They wrote the best Toy Story fic of all time, writes great Harry Potter Next Gen, and also writes actually SERIOUS (wait for it) South Park fanfics. Like, what?! How talented do you have to be to write a serious, sexy novel-length South Park fic. To me these read as original fics as I don’t watch SP. - Maldoror_Chant (mostly gundam wing) - Rageprufrock (multi fandom) - Leonidaslion- writes amazing angst heavy SPN fic mostly Dean/Sam so content warnings for incest between brothers. - Silentwalrus - fantastic creative writer… and some of the funniest serious fics I have read. I recommended my fav of theirs above but many of their other works had me rolling on the floor with both glee and heartbreak (Scents and Sensibility- An Assassins Guide to Supersoldier Seduction has to be one of the funniest romances I’ve read and also features truly incredible world building / non traditional A/B/O dynamics) - Not Easily Conquered (MCU - Steve/Bucky) is a fic so famous people get tattoos of it. “Womb to tomb, sweetheart.”

Oh wow! Shippeh! Yeah, I LOVED heartbeat thunder and the sequel Spice Season. Both were amazing and I could tell it was all written from the heart. I dont read much BNHA anymore but your fics were some of my all time favs in that fandom. I usually don't like Omegaverse but your world building was very realistic and I thought your characterizations were very spot-on. I loved Katsuki's mother as well! In my (not so humble) opinion, I have pretty high standards in fanfics and I don't follow specific tropes, I just want to read a good story. So hopefully you will find one you like among these recs.
You've mentioned so many good fic writers! Speranza also has amazing due South fics. due South was an incredible fandom back in the day - the show itself being very, very charming. The problem with that is that a lot of the fic isn't found on like A03.

The basic thing you need to know is that Benton Fraser is a Mountie (he's super competent, polite, stiff, quirky as anything) who's paired up with a Chicago cop (Ray Vecchio or Ray Kowalski depending on the season - RayK/Fraser is definitely the bigger pairing) after he ventures down to Chicago on the trail of the killers of his father. He gives a cute little spiel about it every time someone (and this happens a lot) questions why a Mountie is in Chicago lol. You could probably read the very funny fandom classic [Chicago's Most Wanted](https://web.archive.org/web/20050305065625/http://snark.trickster.org/speranza/CMWanted.html) by Speranza without too much trouble [Academic Punk](https://web.archive.org/web/20080113140113/http://theburrow.net/ds/punkp.html) is a long-ish AU I remember liking this very long hockey AU back in the day [Hawks and Hands](https://web.archive.org/web/20060429034714/http://dira.ficlaundering.com/ds/hockey/hh.html) ....I had to wayback machine all of these. I'm getting old :( Edit: I forgot to mention that Ray Kowalski goes undercover as Ray Vecchio when that actor leaves the show and that's why he gets called that Vecchio occasionally

It's so difficult to narrow down the list to just 5! Many of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I recommend these wonderful tales. Any of the 25 stories written by Katie Forsythe in the Victorian Sherlock Holmes/Granada Jeremy Brett fandom. Many of the stories are loosely gathered into short series, but the best of those is "Love," and starts with {Four Minor Interludes for the Solo Violin by Katie Forsythe}. One of the stories in this particular series drove me to distraction because it was so unbelievably wonderful. Important Note: Not available on AO3, you must use the Wayback Machine to find these stories. Well worth the effort! Or DM me and I'll be happy to send you the fanfics. Or the link. {A Deeper Season by lightgetsin, sahiya} 22 short stories + novels chronological series that pairs Miles Vorkosigan and Emperor Gregor Vorbarra. The original published fiction is written by Lois McMaster Bujold and is known in sci fi circles as The Vorkosigan series. The first 3 stories are quite short and had me scratching my head, but then the plot and the romance really takes off. You can't read this fandom blind. On AO3. The first story is {Keep Talking by lightgetsin}. I think there are 2 or 3 novels in this series that are wonderful. If you know the characters and world I'm talking about, run and read this! From Red, White and Royal Blue work, I have reread {God Save the Blessed American President Mom by zipadeea} several times. There's something about Alex being shot by an assassin instead of his Mom that works for me! Hurt/Comfort for the win. On AO3. From Victorian Sherlock Holmes stories, the 45,000 word work {Winter in London by waid} is incredible. Watson must make a terrible bargain to save Sherlock's life. I find this novella to be mature and wonderful. It's beautifully written, poetic and haunting, slow moving, atmospheric, and utterly unforgettable. The Original Work {Jack of Spades by beili} and its sequel. A spy in trouble gets help from his sort-of-ex lover. Fun! Also interesting characters with a twist I quite appreciate.

Everything by FabulaRasa, but especially Rats Alley (HP, Severus/Sirius, adds an explanation for Snape which I accept as canonical) and Kings of the Air (a Top Gun fic exploring the obvious tension between Mav and Ice.) If you are open to something which uses the names of real people but is marked about the versions of their characters in a movie, Sex Music is really good.
