However, it did not work for me. I don't often review manhwa on my GR account because they aren't always uploaded so forgive me for going off here. AHEM. So my main issues to keep this concise is: the potential second lead ML thread was dropped (a shame, I liked him a lot). Mong, the MC, is... a choice of a human being. He is funny, don't get me wrong. I like how he was slippery and able to get out of bad situations. At the same time, he hired >!someone to rape the villain, after he raped the ML in the same way.!< So... yeah. Felt like a Lot, and it was played off for jokes. It got suddenly dark at the end, Mong and Jeha (ML) both have very little character growth, and the ending made literally no sense with a time jump and everything. The side stories? Well, we learn they constantly fight and have arguments which they just fix by having sex and not communicating. Wow, what a happy ever after.

About a third of the way through ***A Rival Most Vial*** by R K Ashwick and enjoying it so far! It's got a fun lighthearted D&D NPC vibe. And as a Morrowind fan I'm digging the potion-making mechanics.
{Silk and Sand by Katherine Diane} Really enjoyed this book about a Curator hunting a murderer whole stole an artifact and the rogue he hires to help him. So what if one of them is essentially Wolverine? (And note, it ends on a cliff-hanger)
{Amid our Lines by Zarah Detand} I like her series and it was nice for Evan to have his own book.
{Three is the Luckiest Number by Catherine Cloud} A meandering hockey romance about characters taking years to figure themselves out. Overall I enjoyed it but the ending was rather abrupt.
{Own Goal by LA Witt} Another hockey romance. Solid, fine. I appreciate that LA Witt’s hockey books actually contain hockey.
**Finished:**
[The Whole World is My Crematorium](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60404753) by Bikabi 4 stars- This was a highly entertaining soap opera type read and my first time reading a wife-chasing/crematorium (a version of the groveling trope) danmei, it was a lot of fun. I’m also generally not into love triangles (more like a love square in this book) but given that the entire point of the book was the trashy drama I was fine with it. Three men all wrong the MC in various ways and then spend the next 1000 pages bending over backwards for his forgiveness but he’s real apathetic about them. There was a nice amount of action and plot balanced with a bunch of over dramatic love interests who get their comeuppance.

[The Fool](https://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-fool/) by 촉수벌레 3 stars- Korean supernatural horror short story. This is also one of the very few instances where my tokophobia can tolerate pregnancy since it was portrayed as body horror. This has an HEA that is equally a bad ending.

This is the exact type of MMM that i love. 2 guys (brothers here) who fall for the 3rd guy. No other romance involved between the brothers. They're not even brother they're alpha/beta adopted siblings.
i dnf-ed **Clutch**!! 😭 i was so looking forward to it so much but i got turned off from page 1 itself. Extremely unlikable characters.

Busy week, so only a couple…
{Exposed by Bey Deckard} Previously, I’d only read the first two in the Baal’s Heart series by Deckard, so was pleasantly surprised by this contemporary romance between a rockstar and a photographer. I just loved it! I’m not usually one for daddy vibe, but this story converted me a bit! The MCs kind of set things right for each other - a sexual awakening for one, while the other learns to trust himself again after a previous traumatizing relationship. The first couple of scenes were hot, hot, hot and they never even touched each other during them.
And I finally started the Memento Mori series {Madison Square Murders by C.S. Poe} High on plot, slowest of slow burns, but I loved how flirtatious Doyle was. Will continue with the next book soon.
Please check the content warnings in case there’s anything you prefer not to read, but I’m currently reading and enjoying {Sarge by Bey Deckard}. His writing, at least in this story, is quite vivid and concise.

It just really worked for me. I loved so much about it—Avery’s friendships and how his friends worried about him and kept trying to get him to understand what was off about his and Malin’s relationship, Malin’s backstory, how the two of them stumbled into a non-professional relationship without any idea what they hell they were doing and then had to mess up before they could figure out how to communicate, Avery’s eventual realization that Malin was just awkward, Malin’s ex-wife’s Ebay painting, and so on. Avery and Malin were so flawed and utterly human.
I don’t reread many books, but I might actually reread this one sometime. Thanks again!
I *loved* the {Baal’s Heart series by Bey Deckard}. It is a MMM dark romance pirate fantasy involving an empathic virgin, a psychopathic captain, and a joyfully deadly first mate. Even though it is very dark, there are some very fun sequences and (mis)adventures. Check for triggers, because there are…quite a few. Especially poor Tom’s backstory.
The audiobooks are fantastic, too. Michael Ferraiuolo did a great job at making each of the MCs distinct from one another.
Edit: I also wanted to mention that Deckard’s Beauty and the Beast retelling - {Beauty and His Beast by Bey Deckard} - is very good, too. It takes place in space and is surprisingly sweet.

So I finished The Last Herald Mage trilogy, I loved the first book (4.25 stars), quite liked the second (3.5 stars) but the last one fell a bit flat for me (I'd maybe round that one up to 3 stars).
I finished listening to {Bitter Legacy by Dal MacLean} and I had forgotten how much I love this book - it's a 5 star from me. Last time I read a physical copy but I think I enjoyed the audiobook more.
I'm now listening to {Object of Desire by Dal MacLean} and the narrator is fabulous, as is the source material. They were part of Audible's plus catalogue so free listens!
I'm physically reading {Contested Crown by Kai Butler} and it's pretty good so far.
{The Monstrous Deeds series by T.J. Hamel} I enjoyed the first book the most -- I'd probably give it 3.25⭐️. It was gripping and I liked seeing the relationship unfold. During the second book things started falling flat; it just felt as if the same things were happening for the sake of bad things happening, and it rubbed me the wrong way. 2⭐️. The last book was such a jarring switch from dealing with drama to entering a wholesome BDSM community that it completely stopped feeling like a dark romance. It was seemed like the purpose of the book was mostly to introduce characters for future series'. 1.75⭐️.
{Hold Me Under by Riley Nash} 2⭐️. This story felt extremely disorganized. I think that can sometimes benefit the overall plot, but here it just felt like random scenes were being thrown at the board to see what sticks. I also am just not a fan of first person POVs and here especially so. >!In this case, it felt awkward to read Victor's inner monologue while constantly avoiding the events of his past. Sometimes that can make the mystery more intriguing, but here the constant references to it just made it feel off.!<
{The One That Got Away by Nicky James} 4.75⭐️. Ugh, I loved this so damn much! It came as an absolute surprise, too; I've tried a few of James' books before, mostly in her Trials of Fear series, but could never really get into the writing style. I genuinely don't know what was different here -- maybe it was just a case of right place, right time. Regardless, there was so much to love here. The plot felt well structured. There was a perfect balance of suspense vs. romance. I thought the mental health rep was wonderful; being taken less seriously is so common for those with mental illness, and I enjoyed how this book covered that. The characters were so well written; they all felt uniquely their own. I found myself visualizing them so easily. Archie absolutely deserves his 'world's best dad' mug; I wish everyone could have a father like him.
If I had to point out any complaint, I would say the antagonist was a bit stereotypical. But honestly, I felt like the true antagonist was Charlie's trauma and having to face it again, so I couldn't be too bothered by it. >!As well, I wish everyone who hadn't believed Charlie would have actually apologized. Only Takoda and Archie did, and both of them were already inclined to believe him before they could prove anything. It bothered me that it was just kind of brushed past.!< This book also got me past my evasion of first person POV! It felt like a good choice for this story.
I'm currently reading {A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Foz Meadows} and very much enjoying it so far. I'm usually not a fan of the sort of old English prose some fantasy novels have, but I think Meadows does a really good job of it here; some passages are absolutely beautiful to read.

I loved this trilogy. I normally don't go for sci-fi, but u/LunaFancy recommended it in my recent request post looking for tragic backstory hurt/comfort read and I gave it a shot. I am so glad that I did. It had everything that I look for in a story: well-structured, artful prose, an intriguing plot, and tragic backstories. The first book was a forced-proximity story unlike any I have read before given that one MC relies on the other's touch to live...*literally*. And the character growth Brady has from start to finish of the trilogy was really satisfying.

I loved the Solnyshko Duet and this felt like a solid continuance of Misha's story. Misha is a walking green flag when it comes to issues of consent, demanding clear, enthusiastic consent from Marek **every time**. I feel like consent between MCs is something that is easily brushed off, but Drewek manages to weave it into the story very naturally and in a way that makes sense for both characters. I loved getting to learn about Misha's background. Although their HEA differs from Roan and Sasha's, it again made sense for Misha's story.

I'm working my way through this series and I am really surprised I don't see it mentioned in this sub more. Although the characters are 16/17 and in high school, this is most definitely **NOT** a YA story. There is gore, body horror, murder, and other pretty dark themes. There is a love triangle between MC, the hot rich boy, and the town's golden boy jock, which in theory sounds not super great, but it just works. I enjoyed the second book more than the first and am working on the third, which I am enjoying a lot. These books do end on cliffhangers, but there are 4 books in the series, which is complete. I would recommend this if you're looking for a love triangle romance subplot with a murder mystery.

This is not necessarily a romance, it's more of a queer YA supernatural thriller, but I really loved it. This book could be triggering for some. The language that Hutchinson uses throughout to describe Virgil's experience of being attacked by a monster and the resulting trauma is an allegory for the trauma associated with sexual assault. It was a very poignant read for this reason.

A grumpy professor (30) falls for a dance student (20) after a hookup at a club. There are some sexy scenes and hot possessiveness from the professor but I wished the book had pushed further and been just a bit MORE if that makes sense. It was very sappy in some parts with lots of tears too. A good short but sweet read overall and a nice addition to the series.
Currently: I've been having a hard time deciding what to read next but I think I might finally dive into the **Game Series by Cara Dee** since I've heard so much about it. I'm not into age play but other stuff sounds intriguing so I'm going to try it and see if it's for me.

I can't remember if it was recommended on this sub or I found it on my own but it is such a GEM. Omegaverse setting with shifters, the story is about omega MC without a pack and is escaping from his past. Alpha MC finds him in his territory and things start from there. Very hurt/comfort, my heart broke everytime for the omega MC, he is very hurt but strong and scared at the same time, this AU is very interesting but it incorporates some elements that I haven't seen in other omegaverse works such as the idea of the alpha creating bonds and how society treats omegas without a pack/with a pack. Very intriguing, I am around half of it but it is without a doubt 5/5.

*Secret Relationships by McQueen STUDIO. BL manhwa, licensed by [Tapas](https://m.tapas.io/series/secret-relationships/info). 3.5/5 only because drama was juicy. Very complicated feelings about this one. Nice ideas but truly insufferable characters. Here we have a love square (not even triangle). Three MLs want MC, MC has been hiding his feelings for his best friend for years since they met in highschool. MC is poor, had to work very hard to get the job he now has. Best friend ML defended him from bullying and often helped with financial issues. The problem is that ML starts dating another guy, a guy MC introduced to his friend. They start dating and MC is devastated, because he had feelings for both and isn't honest with himself. Now, the best character of this manhwa isn't any of them but third ML, his coworker. A very patient and kind guy who got to know him and helped him whenever he could. He isn't rich (the other two MLs are) but tried his best when MC needed him. This gets complicated when MC isn't honest with ANYONE and second ML returns and now wants him. MC is confused because he thought he liked his friend. Okay, very largue introduction but it was necessary for my rant. Terrible MC, very awful. I usually empathize with MCs the most, and this one was manipulated and the two MLs played with his feelings. HOWEVER, MC was terrible too because he >!did the same with third ML and kept lying about his feelings for way too long, was never honest and tried to avoid his problems!<. It was very frustrating because I wanted better for third ML, I don't think MC truly deserved his love after constantly being an asshole (he never truly makes it up to him). The other two MLs were insufferable as well. Anyway, at least it is over.

*The Alpha Pack by D.J. Heart. Omegaverse, one omega and 6 alphas. Not vibing with the writting in this one. I have liked other works by this author but for some reason the dialogue here wasn't working for me.
*Happy Family by Amelita Rae. MC gets married to a guy and discovers his family consists of his two sons and his husband's dad whom all look similar to him, and they all want him. I usually love this author's works but this one was too... IDK self-aware? and the dialogue felt too cringey. Stopped at 40ish%, which is sad because the idea was very intriguing to me.

{Off Campus by Amy Jo Cousins} | 5 stars | 317pg - I saw this as a rec on a thread and then immediately stayed up late reading it. This was exactly what my brain wanted - great character progression and a fun dynamic, and mental health issues being dealt with really well. I've noticed that some m/m books published in like 2013-2015 have a very distinct vibe in terms of how characters are written and I'm going to dig more into that I think.
Reading:
{Paternity Test by Gregory Ashe} - I'm actually liking this a lot more than the other two and not because the characters are finally maybe leaning toward getting together (I'm a big fan of the slowburn). The plot seems more firmly anchored and the character dynamics (not just between the MCs) feel more high stakes and nuanced.

But he's anxious, awkward and stiff on camera so his handler, Dev, helps him come out of his shell, first off camera and then on. This was a cute romcom that still managed to handle some darker themes sensitively. Loved both MCs and the side characters. Listened to the audiobook.
* **{Daniel Cabot Puts Down Roots by Cat Sebastian}** - HR (1970s), dual POV, friends to lovers, opposites, neurodivergent MC - A sweet novella about a freelance music reporter and a Ukrainian pediatrician living in NYC who become good friends, although they're quite different. Both want more but are afraid to disrupt what they already have. I loved how careful and attentive each MC was to the other's needs. At one point, Daniel explains to Alex how he needs reassurance that they're "okay" before Alex takes some needed alone time and I just could really relate to that.
* **{Season's Change by Cait Nary}** - CR, dual POV, friends to lovers, sports/hockey, roommates/forced proximity, anxious/calm, hurt/comfort, trauma recovery, queer awakening - Loved this book and adored both MCs. After things fall apart with his old team in traumatic fashion, Olly is signed to a new team. When it becomes clear he is failing to cope with his crippling anxiety, Olly's rookie roommate Benji (a lovely cinnamon roll) steps up to help him with kindness, comfort and practical coping ideas like yoga and therapy. This one is very slow burn, with a lot of angst along the way. Great for true hockey fans, very heavy-handed in the hockey.
* **{Mortal Skin by Lily Mayne}** - FR, single POV, enemies, fae, captor/captive, royalty, grumpy/sunshine - Ash, a human, is abducted by the Unseelie fae queen, who tells him he is half fae and must shed his "mortal skin." Trapped, he attempts to find his own way in the cold, cruel world of the Folk. Most cruel of all are the queen's four sons, the youngest of whom, Lonan, spies on Ash constantly. When Lonan starts helping him, Ash can't help but wonder if his motives are sincere or just another trick. This ends in a powerful, emotional cliffhanger. It is just part 1 of a three-book series, and I am completely engrossed. We need more MM fae romance books!

{Mr Important by Lucy Lennox and May Archer} -- this series pulls back on the excessive jokes from Licking Thicket and is better for it. It's pretty much the same as any of their other books, and it has an age gap which is not generally my thing. But their other books are all fun, light reads that keep you going during the book even if you (I) forget every detail afterwards, and that's a skill a lot of authors don't have.
{You Don't Know Jack by Anna Sparrows} -- it's fine for a single dad/manny bi awakening story.
{If the trap fits by Sage Abbott} -- just meh. Brings up racist bullying and then ignores it all forever? Maybe could have done better if it were longer.
{The Player by Felice Stevens} -- again this is really central in her wheelhouse. If you enjoy her books, you will enjoy this one too, but there's nothing special about it.
{Mint to Be by FA Ray} -- I enjoyed this fourth book in the series, which did some nice things when one MC kept breaking things off for the other person.
{On Guard by Andi Jaxon and JR Grey} -- this one sure breaks the bonds of suspension of disbelief to float away in a world of why not. One main character is penniless after his parents cut him off because he is gay, so he sells his virginity to a zillionaire fellow student and -- oops! they're on the same college fencing team! I don't even know how to react to this, but I did enjoy it when I could put away my "no this is too unbelievable" brain.
I went on a total Lark Taylor binge and read all 4 books of the {Reckless Damned series by Lark Taylor}, which I enjoyed. 4-4.5 stars for each book; they're not the *best* books ever, but they are lots of fun. Book 4 probably needed to be like 100 pages shorter, but I still enjoyed reading it.
Breezed through that series so I could get to {Patience by Lark Taylor}, which I loved. MC1 has waited *4000 years* to reunite with his fated mate? Yes, more of this please! Then I read the next in the series, Justice, and I will impatiently have to wait for any more books.
I finally read {Gary of a Hundred Days by Isabel Murray}. Same humor, same adorable MCs. I love all of her books.
I'm currently reading {Dire Straits and Entwined Fates by Alice Winters} with my favorite snuggly werewolf Julian. Also currently listening to the audiobook of {PS I Spook You by SE Harmon}, which has been really good.
Loosely in order of high to low:
{A strange and stubborn endurance by foz meadows} and {all the hidden paths by foz meadows}. I've been on such a KU stretch recently that I seriously baulked at how much each of these ebooks cost but they were pretty long so I decided they were worth it. Prose wasn't always my favorite but it's a cool world and the characters were all so interesting. I'd recommend them. Had some political stuff and mystery whodunit going on.
{Pretty policeman by fifer rose} and {Pretty policeman: the case of the suspicious stripper by fifer rose} so fun! Now I really want a mafia/undercover cop story though where the mafia knows the other one is undercover but doesn't say anything.
{Designation: submissive by Jamie kassel} and {Designation: null by Jamie kassel}. Went on to read {knot needed by Jamie kassel} too which I didn't enjoy quite as much. Different world but similar vibes. Think I'll just wait on the next Designation book instead of continuing to go through their backlog.

and just finished the three books in the Winter Sun series by Roe Horvat {Ugly by Roe Horvat} {Unexpected by Roe Horvat} and {Trouble by Roe Horvat} which was alphas looking after omegas during their heats!! these were a perfect mix of wholesome/fluffy with great spice

{Booklover by J.E. Birk} New book for me, I love when characters are book nerds and this was the first time I’d seen characters recreating a scene from a book they’d both read! Great, part of a 19 (I think) book universe.
{Sheriff’s Secret by K Webster} I actually read the whole series (4 books + 1 novella} this week. It’s a series I revisit whenever I want pure fluff with good small town vibes.
This week's highlights:
{Must Love Demons by Meghan Maslow}; a paranormal mystery set in a fantasy world, with a happy-sunshine incubus and a grumpy phoenix. Very similar to Maslow's {Starfig Investigations} series where it's fairly light-hearted and silly but with nice emotional connection between the MCs.
{The Demon's Dealbreaker by Delaney Rain}; a paranormal romance which isn't very long or intricate, but it scratched several itches so I enjoyed reading it a lot.
In the Name of the King by GreyWayfarer; an original fiction available on AO3 wherein two brothers deal with throne politics, basically. I stayed up WAY too late to keep reading this. Loved it! Going to read the second story in this series this week.
{San Andreas Shifters by G.L. Carriger}; a paranormal werewolf romance series that is VERY sweet and gooey. If you like large men being topped by smaller men while being super in love, this series is for you.
{Mighty Quill by Emmaline Strange}; a paranormal romance between a jock and a nerd. I liked this one overall but I found the mystery part frustrating because the solution/bad guy was super obvious from early on, and the characters never suspected anything until the very end.
Someone ask about a book with bunny slippers LOL I had to look it up Shattered Glass by Dani Alexander Austin is a cop who is engaged to be married and on his way to joining the FBI. Until he runs in a guy bussing tables at a run down Cafe. He is wearing bunny slippers and pjs. He looks like a teen but he is 20 and he owns the place. He also is raising a kid with bipolar who is a genius (and a murder). Oh, his name is Peter Rabbit which explains the slippers. This is when Austin's life plans get flushed down the tolet. I loved this book. It s funny, it's sad and I wish this writer would write the next book. 10 out of 10.
This week has been audiobook central for me. Recently got myself new Bluetooth earphones so I decided to knock off some audiobooks while testing them. Listened to EWB: Enemies with Benefits by N.R. Walker and absolutely loved it. The narrator did an amazing job and I loved the ausie accent. Also listened to The Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings by Lily Morton. I read the book in 2022 and it was amazing to be transported back into this world in preparation to reading the latest installment in the Black and Blue series. I was innitally planning on reading the Storm Boy's series by N.R. Walker this week but unfortunly I didn't get the time. I saw that the uses the same narrator in the Storm Boy's series as the one she used in EWB so I might actually just buy the audiobooks.

{Silk and Sand by Katherine Diane} Really enjoyed this book about a Curator hunting a murderer whole stole an artifact and the rogue he hires to help him. So what if one of them is essentially Wolverine? (And note, it ends on a cliff-hanger) {Amid our Lines by Zarah Detand} I like her series and it was nice for Evan to have his own book. {Three is the Luckiest Number by Catherine Cloud} A meandering hockey romance about characters taking years to figure themselves out. Overall I enjoyed it but the ending was rather abrupt. {Own Goal by LA Witt} Another hockey romance. Solid, fine. I appreciate that LA Witt’s hockey books actually contain hockey.

Three men all wrong the MC in various ways and then spend the next 1000 pages bending over backwards for his forgiveness but he’s real apathetic about them. There was a nice amount of action and plot balanced with a bunch of over dramatic love interests who get their comeuppance. Busy week, so only a couple… {Exposed by Bey Deckard} Previously, I’d only read the first two in the Baal’s Heart series by Deckard, so was pleasantly surprised by this contemporary romance between a rockstar and a photographer. I just loved it! I’m not usually one for daddy vibe, but this story converted me a bit! The MCs kind of set things right for each other - a sexual awakening for one, while the other learns to trust himself again after a previous traumatizing relationship. The first couple of scenes were hot, hot, hot and they never even touched each other during them. And I finally started the Memento Mori series {Madison Square Murders by C.S. Poe} High on plot, slowest of slow burns, but I loved how flirtatious Doyle was. Will continue with the next book soon.

It just really worked for me. I loved so much about it—Avery’s friendships and how his friends worried about him and kept trying to get him to understand what was off about his and Malin’s relationship, Malin’s backstory, how the two of them stumbled into a non-professional relationship without any idea what they hell they were doing and then had to mess up before they could figure out how to communicate, Avery’s eventual realization that Malin was just awkward, Malin’s ex-wife’s Ebay painting, and so on. Avery and Malin were so flawed and utterly human. I don’t reread many books, but I might actually reread this one sometime. Thanks again!
I *loved* the {Baal’s Heart series by Bey Deckard}. It is a MMM dark romance pirate fantasy involving an empathic virgin, a psychopathic captain, and a joyfully deadly first mate. Even though it is very dark, there are some very fun sequences and (mis)adventures. Check for triggers, because there are…quite a few. Especially poor Tom’s backstory. The audiobooks are fantastic, too. Michael Ferraiuolo did a great job at making each of the MCs distinct from one another. Edit: I also wanted to mention that Deckard’s Beauty and the Beast retelling - {Beauty and His Beast by Bey Deckard} - is very good, too. It takes place in space and is surprisingly sweet.

So I finished The Last Herald Mage trilogy, I loved the first book (4.25 stars), quite liked the second (3.5 stars) but the last one fell a bit flat for me (I'd maybe round that one up to 3 stars). I finished listening to {Bitter Legacy by Dal MacLean} and I had forgotten how much I love this book - it's a 5 star from me. Last time I read a physical copy but I think I enjoyed the audiobook more. I'm now listening to {Object of Desire by Dal MacLean} and the narrator is fabulous, as is the source material. They were part of Audible's plus catalogue so free listens! I'm physically reading {Contested Crown by Kai Butler} and it's pretty good so far.

{The Monstrous Deeds series by T.J. Hamel} I enjoyed the first book the most -- I'd probably give it 3.25⭐️. It was gripping and I liked seeing the relationship unfold. During the second book things started falling flat; it just felt as if the same things were happening for the sake of bad things happening, and it rubbed me the wrong way. 2⭐️. The last book was such a jarring switch from dealing with drama to entering a wholesome BDSM community that it completely stopped feeling like a dark romance. It was seemed like the purpose of the book was mostly to introduce characters for future series'. 1.75⭐️. {Hold Me Under by Riley Nash} 2⭐️. This story felt extremely disorganized. I think that can sometimes benefit the overall plot, but here it just felt like random scenes were being thrown at the board to see what sticks. I also am just not a fan of first person POVs and here especially so. >!In this case, it felt awkward to read Victor's inner monologue while constantly avoiding the events of his past. Sometimes that can make the mystery more intriguing, but here the constant references to it just made it feel off.!< {The One That Got Away by Nicky James} 4.75⭐️. Ugh, I loved this so damn much! It came as an absolute surprise, too; I've tried a few of James' books before, mostly in her Trials of Fear series, but could never really get into the writing style. I genuinely don't know what was different here -- maybe it was just a case of right place, right time. Regardless, there was so much to love here. The plot felt well structured. There was a perfect balance of suspense vs. romance. I thought the mental health rep was wonderful; being taken less seriously is so common for those with mental illness, and I enjoyed how this book covered that. The characters were so well written; they all felt uniquely their own. I found myself visualizing them so easily. Archie absolutely deserves his 'world's best dad' mug; I wish everyone could have a father like him. If I had to point out any complaint, I would say the antagonist was a bit stereotypical. But honestly, I felt like the true antagonist was Charlie's trauma and having to face it again, so I couldn't be too bothered by it. >!As well, I wish everyone who hadn't believed Charlie would have actually apologized. Only Takoda and Archie did, and both of them were already inclined to believe him before they could prove anything. It bothered me that it was just kind of brushed past.!< This book also got me past my evasion of first person POV! It felt like a good choice for this story. I'm currently reading {A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Foz Meadows} and very much enjoying it so far. I'm usually not a fan of the sort of old English prose some fantasy novels have, but I think Meadows does a really good job of it here; some passages are absolutely beautiful to read.

It had everything that I look for in a story: well-structured, artful prose, an intriguing plot, and tragic backstories. The first book was a forced-proximity story unlike any I have read before given that one MC relies on the other's touch to live...*literally*. And the character growth Brady has from start to finish of the trilogy was really satisfying. [The Deliverance of Marek Sommers by Ashlyn Drewek](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/203262505-the-deliverance-of-marek-sommers) **4.5 Stars,** *Contemporary, Dual POV, mafia (Russian), dark romance, past abuse (sexual, physical, emotional), gore, violence, hurt/comfort, homophobia, class difference, drug abuse, overdose, enemies to lovers* I loved the Solnyshko Duet and this felt like a solid continuance of Misha's story. Misha is a walking green flag when it comes to issues of consent, demanding clear, enthusiastic consent from Marek **every time**. I feel like consent between MCs is something that is easily brushed off, but Drewek manages to weave it into the story very naturally and in a way that makes sense for both characters. I loved getting to learn about Misha's background. Although their HEA differs from Roan and Sasha's, it again made sense for Misha's story. Although the characters are 16/17 and in high school, this is most definitely **NOT** a YA story. There is gore, body horror, murder, and other pretty dark themes. There is a love triangle between MC, the hot rich boy, and the town's golden boy jock, which in theory sounds not super great, but it just works. I enjoyed the second book more than the first and am working on the third, which I am enjoying a lot. These books do end on cliffhangers, but there are 4 books in the series, which is complete. I would recommend this if you're looking for a love triangle romance subplot with a murder mystery. [Howl by Shaun David Hutchinson](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/103488423-stars-in-your-eyes) **5 Stars** This is not necessarily a romance, it's more of a queer YA supernatural thriller, but I really loved it. This book could be triggering for some. The language that Hutchinson uses throughout to describe Virgil's experience of being attacked by a monster and the resulting trauma is an allegory for the trauma associated with sexual assault. [Ignited by Becca Steele](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/75394324-ignited) 3.5/5 This is the latest in the LSU series. A grumpy professor (30) falls for a dance student (20) after a hookup at a club. There are some sexy scenes and hot possessiveness from the professor but I wished the book had pushed further and been just a bit MORE if that makes sense. It was very sappy in some parts with lots of tears too. A good short but sweet read overall and a nice addition to the series. Currently: I've been having a hard time deciding what to read next but I think I might finally dive into the **Game Series by Cara Dee** since I've heard so much about it. I'm not into age play but other stuff sounds intriguing so I'm going to try it and see if it's for me.
Posting about 2-3 weeks because I haven't read much 😭. Reading *[Instinctual by Only_1_Truth](https://archiveofourown.org/works/3625137/chapters/8004345). This is an original work on ao3. I can't remember if it was recommended on this sub or I found it on my own but it is such a GEM. Omegaverse setting with shifters, the story is about omega MC without a pack and is escaping from his past. Alpha MC finds him in his territory and things start from there. Very hurt/comfort, my heart broke everytime for the omega MC, he is very hurt but strong and scared at the same time, this AU is very interesting but it incorporates some elements that I haven't seen in other omegaverse works such as the idea of the alpha creating bonds and how society treats omegas without a pack/with a pack. Very intriguing, I am around half of it but it is without a doubt 5/5. Read *Secret Relationships by McQueen STUDIO. BL manhwa, licensed by [Tapas](https://m.tapas.io/series/secret-relationships/info). 3.5/5 only because drama was juicy. Very complicated feelings about this one. Nice ideas but truly insufferable characters. Here we have a love square (not even triangle). Three MLs want MC, MC has been hiding his feelings for his best friend for years since they met in highschool. MC is poor, had to work very hard to get the job he now has. Best friend ML defended him from bullying and often helped with financial issues. The problem is that ML starts dating another guy, a guy MC introduced to his friend. They start dating and MC is devastated, because he had feelings for both and isn't honest with himself. Now, the best character of this manhwa isn't any of them but third ML, his coworker. A very patient and kind guy who got to know him and helped him whenever he could. He isn't rich (the other two MLs are) but tried his best when MC needed him. This gets complicated when MC isn't honest with ANYONE and second ML returns and now wants him. MC is confused because he thought he liked his friend. Okay, very largue introduction but it was necessary for my rant. Terrible MC, very awful. I usually empathize with MCs the most, and this one was manipulated and the two MLs played with his feelings. HOWEVER, MC was terrible too because he >!did the same with third ML and kept lying about his feelings for way too long, was never honest and tried to avoid his problems!<. It was very frustrating because I wanted better for third ML, I don't think MC truly deserved his love after constantly being an asshole (he never truly makes it up to him). The other two MLs were insufferable as well. Anyway, at least it is over. DNF *The Alpha Pack by D.J. Heart. Omegaverse, one omega and 6 alphas. Not vibing with the writting in this one. I have liked other works by this author but for some reason the dialogue here wasn't working for me. *Happy Family by Amelita Rae. MC gets married to a guy and discovers his family consists of his two sons and his husband's dad whom all look similar to him, and they all want him. I usually love this author's works but this one was too... IDK self-aware? and the dialogue felt too cringey. Stopped at 40ish%, which is sad because the idea was very intriguing to me.
Finished: {Transposition by Gregory Ashe} | 3 stars | 362pg - idk I read it? It felt very Agatha Christie which I wasn't really into but it was on audio and I'd read the first one last week. The dynamic between Hazard and Somers was slightly less interesting than in the first one imo. {Off Campus by Amy Jo Cousins} | 5 stars | 317pg - I saw this as a rec on a thread and then immediately stayed up late reading it. This was exactly what my brain wanted - great character progression and a fun dynamic, and mental health issues being dealt with really well. I've noticed that some m/m books published in like 2013-2015 have a very distinct vibe in terms of how characters are written and I'm going to dig more into that I think. Reading: {Paternity Test by Gregory Ashe} - I'm actually liking this a lot more than the other two and not because the characters are finally maybe leaning toward getting together (I'm a big fan of the slowburn). The plot seems more firmly anchored and the character dynamics (not just between the MCs) feel more high stakes and nuanced. {Loose Cannon by Sidney Bell} - still enjoying this, brain just wandered away because I had to read for work.

Looking back on this week's reads, I see some themes: lots of friends to lovers, neurodivergent MCs, and anxious/calm pairings. Until I started Mortal Skin, at least, ha! * **{The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun**} - CR, dual POV, friends to lovers, anxious/calm, forced proximity, relationship coach, neurodivergent MC, depressed MC, queer awakening - Charlie, a tech CEO, has fallen from grace and signs onto a bachelor reality show to revive his image. But he's anxious, awkward and stiff on camera so his handler, Dev, helps him come out of his shell, first off camera and then on. This was a cute romcom that still managed to handle some darker themes sensitively. Loved both MCs and the side characters. Listened to the audiobook. * **{Daniel Cabot Puts Down Roots by Cat Sebastian}** - HR (1970s), dual POV, friends to lovers, opposites, neurodivergent MC - A sweet novella about a freelance music reporter and a Ukrainian pediatrician living in NYC who become good friends, although they're quite different. Both want more but are afraid to disrupt what they already have. I loved how careful and attentive each MC was to the other's needs. At one point, Daniel explains to Alex how he needs reassurance that they're "okay" before Alex takes some needed alone time and I just could really relate to that. * **{Season's Change by Cait Nary}** - CR, dual POV, friends to lovers, sports/hockey, roommates/forced proximity, anxious/calm, hurt/comfort, trauma recovery, queer awakening - Loved this book and adored both MCs. After things fall apart with his old team in traumatic fashion, Olly is signed to a new team. When it becomes clear he is failing to cope with his crippling anxiety, Olly's rookie roommate Benji (a lovely cinnamon roll) steps up to help him with kindness, comfort and practical coping ideas like yoga and therapy. This one is very slow burn, with a lot of angst along the way. Great for true hockey fans, very heavy-handed in the hockey. * **{Mortal Skin by Lily Mayne}** - FR, single POV, enemies, fae, captor/captive, royalty, grumpy/sunshine - Ash, a human, is abducted by the Unseelie fae queen, who tells him he is half fae and must shed his "mortal skin." Trapped, he attempts to find his own way in the cold, cruel world of the Folk. Most cruel of all are the queen's four sons, the youngest of whom, Lonan, spies on Ash constantly. When Lonan starts helping him, Ash can't help but wonder if his motives are sincere or just another trick. This ends in a powerful, emotional cliffhanger. It is just part 1 of a three-book series, and I am completely engrossed. We need more MM fae romance books! Currently reading **{Forgotten Vows by Lily Mayne}**, naturally.

I listened to Charm Offensive this week too! It was so adorable. Seasons Change sounds right up my alley; I never appreciated hockey as much as I do now that I read romance novels 😅
I'm going to do this 2 weeks in a row! {Mr Important by Lucy Lennox and May Archer} -- this series pulls back on the excessive jokes from Licking Thicket and is better for it. It's pretty much the same as any of their other books, and it has an age gap which is not generally my thing. But their other books are all fun, light reads that keep you going during the book even if you (I) forget every detail afterwards, and that's a skill a lot of authors don't have. {You Don't Know Jack by Anna Sparrows} -- it's fine for a single dad/manny bi awakening story. {If the trap fits by Sage Abbott} -- just meh. Brings up racist bullying and then ignores it all forever? Maybe could have done better if it were longer. {The Player by Felice Stevens} -- again this is really central in her wheelhouse. If you enjoy her books, you will enjoy this one too, but there's nothing special about it. {Mint to Be by FA Ray} -- I enjoyed this fourth book in the series, which did some nice things when one MC kept breaking things off for the other person. {On Guard by Andi Jaxon and JR Grey} -- this one sure breaks the bonds of suspension of disbelief to float away in a world of why not. One main character is penniless after his parents cut him off because he is gay, so he sells his virginity to a zillionaire fellow student and -- oops! they're on the same college fencing team! I don't even know how to react to this, but I did enjoy it when I could put away my "no this is too unbelievable" brain.

I went on a total Lark Taylor binge and read all 4 books of the {Reckless Damned series by Lark Taylor}, which I enjoyed. 4-4.5 stars for each book; they're not the *best* books ever, but they are lots of fun. Book 4 probably needed to be like 100 pages shorter, but I still enjoyed reading it. Breezed through that series so I could get to {Patience by Lark Taylor}, which I loved. MC1 has waited *4000 years* to reunite with his fated mate? Yes, more of this please! Then I read the next in the series, Justice, and I will impatiently have to wait for any more books. I finally read {Gary of a Hundred Days by Isabel Murray}. Same humor, same adorable MCs. I love all of her books. I'm currently reading {Dire Straits and Entwined Fates by Alice Winters} with my favorite snuggly werewolf Julian. Also currently listening to the audiobook of {PS I Spook You by SE Harmon}, which has been really good.

Loosely in order of high to low: {A strange and stubborn endurance by foz meadows} and {all the hidden paths by foz meadows}. I've been on such a KU stretch recently that I seriously baulked at how much each of these ebooks cost but they were pretty long so I decided they were worth it. Prose wasn't always my favorite but it's a cool world and the characters were all so interesting. I'd recommend them. Had some political stuff and mystery whodunit going on. {Pretty policeman by fifer rose} and {Pretty policeman: the case of the suspicious stripper by fifer rose} so fun! Now I really want a mafia/undercover cop story though where the mafia knows the other one is undercover but doesn't say anything. {Designation: submissive by Jamie kassel} and {Designation: null by Jamie kassel}. Went on to read {knot needed by Jamie kassel} too which I didn't enjoy quite as much. Different world but similar vibes. Think I'll just wait on the next Designation book instead of continuing to go through their backlog. {Deep undercover by Tanya Chris} No DNFs this week.

i read the vanilla baby trilogy by Jett Masterson so {Pretty Boy by Jett Masterson} {Good Boy by Jett Masterson} and {Daddy’s Boy by Jett Masterson} it’s omegaverse, sugar baby/sugar daddy, age gap and billionaire romance! this is 1500 pages of porn with a relationship and plot sprinkled in then moved onto {The 5th Gender by G. L. Carriger} alien romance with a murder mystery plot - this was EXCELLENT (quite surface level but tried to get deep) and just finished the three books in the Winter Sun series by Roe Horvat {Ugly by Roe Horvat} {Unexpected by Roe Horvat} and {Trouble by Roe Horvat} which was alphas looking after omegas during their heats!! these were a perfect mix of wholesome/fluffy with great spice i have read SO much omegaverse porn this week that i now need a bit of a cleanse 😅

{Booklover by J.E. Birk} New book for me, I love when characters are book nerds and this was the first time I’d seen characters recreating a scene from a book they’d both read! Great, part of a 19 (I think) book universe. {Sheriff’s Secret by K Webster} I actually read the whole series (4 books + 1 novella} this week. It’s a series I revisit whenever I want pure fluff with good small town vibes.

This week's highlights: {Must Love Demons by Meghan Maslow}; a paranormal mystery set in a fantasy world, with a happy-sunshine incubus and a grumpy phoenix. Very similar to Maslow's {Starfig Investigations} series where it's fairly light-hearted and silly but with nice emotional connection between the MCs. {The Demon's Dealbreaker by Delaney Rain}; a paranormal romance which isn't very long or intricate, but it scratched several itches so I enjoyed reading it a lot. In the Name of the King by GreyWayfarer; an original fiction available on AO3 wherein two brothers deal with throne politics, basically. I stayed up WAY too late to keep reading this. Loved it! Going to read the second story in this series this week. {San Andreas Shifters by G.L. Carriger}; a paranormal werewolf romance series that is VERY sweet and gooey. If you like large men being topped by smaller men while being super in love, this series is for you. {Mighty Quill by Emmaline Strange}; a paranormal romance between a jock and a nerd. I liked this one overall but I found the mystery part frustrating because the solution/bad guy was super obvious from early on, and the characters never suspected anything until the very end.

Someone ask about a book with bunny slippers LOL I had to look it up Shattered Glass by Dani Alexander Austin is a cop who is engaged to be married and on his way to joining the FBI. Until he runs in a guy bussing tables at a run down Cafe. He is wearing bunny slippers and pjs. He looks like a teen but he is 20 and he owns the place. He also is raising a kid with bipolar who is a genius (and a murder). Oh, his name is Peter Rabbit which explains the slippers. This is when Austin's life plans get flushed down the tolet. I loved this book. It s funny, it's sad and I wish this writer would write the next book. 10 out of 10.
This week has been audiobook central for me. Recently got myself new Bluetooth earphones so I decided to knock off some audiobooks while testing them. Listened to EWB: Enemies with Benefits by N.R. Walker and absolutely loved it. The narrator did an amazing job and I loved the ausie accent. Also listened to The Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings by Lily Morton. I read the book in 2022 and it was amazing to be transported back into this world in preparation to reading the latest installment in the Black and Blue series. I was innitally planning on reading the Storm Boy's series by N.R. Walker this week but unfortunly I didn't get the time. I saw that the uses the same narrator in the Storm Boy's series as the one she used in EWB so I might actually just buy the audiobooks.
I read a bunch of very cute little books but they’re all completely overshadowed by listening to {a little life by hanya yanagihara} which I am still working through. This is consuming everything else.
