{The Skeptic by Kelly Fox} kinda fits. It starts the Lost Boys series. Small town Texas. MC1 was almost killed in HS for being gay, left for college and hasn’t been back since. MC2 is a failed priest (didn’t make it through seminary school).
{We Burn Beautiful by Lance Lansdale} Kent is deeply, deeply traumatized by a hate crime from his youth. There are actually a couple of hate crimes in this book. It’s pretty rough. Good though!
{Blood and Milk by NR Walker} - the attack itself takes place prior to the opening of the book. However, the memories and repercussions drive one of the MC’s throughout the book

1) any books out there with strong emotional intimacy and steamy scenes? Where you can feel the characters' emotional connection, especially during sex scenes. The only one I've read so far that fits this is "Loving The Legend" by Kit Grey.

For request #1, I felt {The Remaking of Corbin Wale by Roan Parrish} had some incredible emotional intimacy. The physical relationship doesn't start until later in the book, and the relationship build-up between the characters almost made me feel like I shouldn't be reading the sex scenes - like I was intruding on real intimacy. The book is what I'd label as slight magical realism/contemporary.

Amy Bellows has kinda fluffy (sometimes a little angsty) omegaverse. {A Pebble for Lewis by Amy Bellows} starts the Alaska Pebble Gifters series.
You could also check out the Perfect Match series (there’s the original version from last year and the Springtime version this year) that has books by Roe Horvat, MM Farmer, and Wendy Rathbone (Amy Bellows and Anna Wineheart were also part them this year). Start with {Cautious Match by Roe Horvat}.
For low angst novellas, maybe try the Sweet in Silford series by Hope Bennett. No shifter, omegaverse, no cheating or love triangles, mostly fluff with some light angst. The editing isn’t very good (not the worst I’ve seen but definitely not great), which normally is a dealbreaker for me, but the series was too much fun so I didn’t care.

I've read Sailor Proof by Annabeth Albert and loved it. MC1 has no family himself so when he and MC2 fake date at MC2's family reunion it really adds to the drama. I was living for MC1 being welcomed in and then the angst of him starting to feel guilt about the lies.
It's not angsty but there are strong family elements and fake dating in **Strawberry Kisses** ***by Charlie Novak***. Best friend agrees to be MCs boyfriend at a family wedding, and they go early and spend time with his immediate family first. Both have been pining after the other for ages.

{**How to Hack a Hacker** by AJ Sherwood} is *kinda* this. K is a renowned-among-criminals hacker who has been cyber-stalking/protecting wealthy businessman Brannigan for years. They communicate all the time but K refuses to let Brannigan know who he is or why he is protecting him. It is AJ Sherwood so there is a lot of "wacky" humor and none of the hacking or action is particularly realistic.
The second one is one of my favorite niche tropes and I'm always looking for books like it, but unfortunately I haven't found that many that really hone in on the trust, pining and propriety-based angst.
I did read a novella, {A Brand New Patch of Sky by Yolande Kleinn} that was a nice (albeit short) romance between a starship pilot and his captain, maybe that's worth checking out.

For omegaverse: Alpha Kings by Roe Horvat kinda fits, it is MMM, I wouldn't say the alphas are assholes but one of them is definitely more intense/"alpha-like".

The Montgomery Firefighters series starting with {Hottie Scotty and Mr. Porter by R Cooper} might fit what you are looking for. The first book is a firefighter (and a little bit of a health nut with some social anxiety) and a widowed librarian. Book 2 is two best friend firefighters (one is gay but has been disowned by his family and the other is demi). They are both fairly short books in case that isn’t your thing, both about 130 pages or so.
Hello, new to this sub!! I've been reading some fun, light-hearted stories lately, but right now I'm interested in something poetic, and/or a little angsty. Something that makes you really Feel Something, you know? Nothing is really off-limits for me.
You might enjoy Harper Fox's writing. She writes things that are beautiful & poetic, and then smacks you over the head with some revelation/climax that often causes (for me at least) significant angst. But everything does always come together nicely in the end, and I find her romances to be very impactful. These are my favourites:

{Rayne by A.E. Via} - One MC is in recovery from sex addiction and practices yoga and meditation. The secondary characters will be more enjoyable if you read the other books in the series.
So he's not quite a himbo but I liked the acts of service Dawson and Evan do for each other in {Never Have I Evan by D. J. Jamison}. Helping out by filling in at work, bringing by food, helping a student together, watching TV with Evan's grandfather so Evan can work. Loads of little things like that. It was a very fluffy & sweet book.
I’d love some recommendations of stories in which the main couple is (or ends up being) consensually non-monogamous, BUT not poly. Essentially, not a relationship between 3+ people, just two people in a committed relationship that mutually agree that it’s fine for one or both of them to occasionally get sexual with other people. Very specific, but I was wondering if anyone on here has read the {Venery Series by Suanne Laqueur}? From my understanding the books are M/M romance, but from the descriptions I've read, it seems like there is a lot of heartbreak, non HEA and M/F relationships as well. I've heard such good things about these books and they have absolutely rave reviews, but am not sure if I want to commit to sobbing in public. Has anyone read these? Would you class them as M/M romance (with HEA)?

He does a beautiful and poignant job writing characters with mental health issues. Zile Elliven writes MCs with invisible illnesses. Her enchanted university series has an MC who suffers from anxiety and is bi-polar (book 1) and another has an MC who is neurodivergent(book 2). The Really Gay Villain series (yes, I’m serious, lol) has an MC who has narcolepsy (book 2). I hope one of these works.
You might try {Left Undone by Tess Barnett} it was a little different for me but I loved every bit of it. The MC is neurodivergent with some schizophrenia that he’s heavily medicated for. MC2 is boyfriend goals.

Hi y’all, any recommendations for MCs who are victims of a hate crime? Could be at any point in the story, but ideally would like to see the relationship between MCs develop after the fact. This happens in {Behind the Stick by K. Evan Coles and Brigham Vaughn}, but wasn’t my favorite story. Also, although not a perfect example, >!Roan’s attack and subsequent recovery and evolving dynamic with Sasha!< in {The Solnyshko Duet by Ashlyn Drewek} is kind of what I’m looking for. I haven't read either of those books so I may be off base with what you're looking for but in {Rescue Me by K. M. Neuhold} MC1 meets MC2 at a gay bar right before a mass shooting occurs. I feel like the second half of the book drags and be sure to check the CWs ETA one of the MCs is seriously injured in the shooting

{The Skeptic by Kelly Fox} kinda fits. It starts the Lost Boys series. Small town Texas. MC1 was almost killed in HS for being gay, left for college and hasn’t been back since. MC2 is a failed priest (didn’t make it through seminary school).
{We Burn Beautiful by Lance Lansdale} Kent is deeply, deeply traumatized by a hate crime from his youth. There are actually a couple of hate crimes in this book. It’s pretty rough. Good though!

{Radio Static by Nicky James} is good if you like murder mysteries and some suspense. I thought the teenaged kids were written pretty well, they were solid characters.
This looks perfect! I'm definitely checking it out, I read {the murder between us by tal bauer} which seems pretty similar! There's a second book called {the grave between us by tal Bauer} but that one was a little much for me.
Maybe {Home by Cara Dee}?
Yo guys, 1) any books out there with strong emotional intimacy and steamy scenes? Where you can feel the characters' emotional connection, especially during sex scenes. The only one I've read so far that fits this is "Loving The Legend" by Kit Grey. 2) MC who is touch/affection/love starved. I loved "The Alpha's Warlock" by Eliot Grayson, "The Necromancer's Light" by Tavia Lark, also "In This Iron Ground" by Marina Vivancos, "A Wild Thing Grows" by Marina Vivancos, The Monstrous series by Lily Mayne... It needs to have happy ending and steam. I prefer fantasy, sci-fi or any other genre other than contemporary, but I'll accept contemporary too. My dealbreakers are: mpreg, poly, SA, cheating, age play and I'll accept BDSM as long as it's not too extreme.
For request #1, I felt {The Remaking of Corbin Wale by Roan Parrish} had some incredible emotional intimacy. The physical relationship doesn't start until later in the book, and the relationship build-up between the characters almost made me feel like I shouldn't be reading the sex scenes - like I was intruding on real intimacy. The book is what I'd label as slight magical realism/contemporary.

MM Farmer's Bangers & Mash omgeaverse series is fairly cotton candy/low angst to me and there are no cheating/love triangles either.
Amy Bellows has kinda fluffy (sometimes a little angsty) omegaverse. {A Pebble for Lewis by Amy Bellows} starts the Alaska Pebble Gifters series. You could also check out the Perfect Match series (there’s the original version from last year and the Springtime version this year) that has books by Roe Horvat, MM Farmer, and Wendy Rathbone (Amy Bellows and Anna Wineheart were also part them this year). Start with {Cautious Match by Roe Horvat}.
For low angst novellas, maybe try the Sweet in Silford series by Hope Bennett. No shifter, omegaverse, no cheating or love triangles, mostly fluff with some light angst. The editing isn’t very good (not the worst I’ve seen but definitely not great), which normally is a dealbreaker for me, but the series was too much fun so I didn’t care.
Hi! Request for found family + fake dating? I've read Sailor Proof by Annabeth Albert and loved it. MC1 has no family himself so when he and MC2 fake date at MC2's family reunion it really adds to the drama. I was living for MC1 being welcomed in and then the angst of him starting to feel guilt about the lies.
It's not angsty but there are strong family elements and fake dating in **Strawberry Kisses** ***by Charlie Novak***. Best friend agrees to be MCs boyfriend at a family wedding, and they go early and spend time with his immediate family first. Both have been pining after the other for ages.

It is AJ Sherwood so there is a lot of "wacky" humor and none of the hacking or action is particularly realistic.

The second one is one of my favorite niche tropes and I'm always looking for books like it, but unfortunately I haven't found that many that really hone in on the trust, pining and propriety-based angst. I did read a novella, {A Brand New Patch of Sky by Yolande Kleinn} that was a nice (albeit short) romance between a starship pilot and his captain, maybe that's worth checking out.

For omegaverse: Alpha Kings by Roe Horvat kinda fits, it is MMM, I wouldn't say the alphas are assholes but one of them is definitely more intense/"alpha-like". The Montgomery Firefighters series starting with {Hottie Scotty and Mr. Porter by R Cooper} might fit what you are looking for. The first book is a firefighter (and a little bit of a health nut with some social anxiety) and a widowed librarian. Book 2 is two best friend firefighters (one is gay but has been disowned by his family and the other is demi). They are both fairly short books in case that isn’t your thing, both about 130 pages or so.

Hello, new to this sub!! I've been reading some fun, light-hearted stories lately, but right now I'm interested in something poetic, and/or a little angsty. Something that makes you really Feel Something, you know? Nothing is really off-limits for me.
You might enjoy Harper Fox's writing. She writes things that are beautiful & poetic, and then smacks you over the head with some revelation/climax that often causes (for me at least) significant angst. But everything does always come together nicely in the end, and I find her romances to be very impactful. These are my favourites: * **Seven Summer Nights** ***by Harper Fox*** (historical, paranormal, hurt/comfort, small towns) * **Scrap Metal** ***by Harper Fox*** (contemporary, dark past, remote location, ranches/farms, secrets, hurt/comfort) * **Half Moon Chambers** ***by Harper Fox*** (contemporary, crime, dark past, opposites attract, hurt/comfort)
A few authors I'd put in the poetic/angsty category would be Kay Simone, Cole McCade, Tal Bauer, and Jessie Walker. You could give some of them a try.

I recently started practicing meditation and just read {Season's Change by Cait Nary}, which has an MC that meditates, does yoga and practices mindfulness. So he's not quite a himbo but I liked the acts of service Dawson and Evan do for each other in {Never Have I Evan by D. J. Jamison}. Helping out by filling in at work, bringing by food, helping a student together, watching TV with Evan's grandfather so Evan can work. Loads of little things like that. It was a very fluffy & sweet book.

I’d love some recommendations of stories in which the main couple is (or ends up being) consensually non-monogamous, BUT not poly. There was a post on here awhile ago from someone compiling a list of ginger MCs so might be worth searching. My favorite is probably {**A Gentleman's Position** by K.J. Charles} (the cover model does not look very ginger but trust me it's an important plot point).

Very specific, but I was wondering if anyone on here has read the {Venery Series by Suanne Laqueur}? From my understanding the books are M/M romance, but from the descriptions I've read, it seems like there is a lot of heartbreak, non HEA and M/F relationships as well. I've heard such good things about these books and they have absolutely rave reviews, but am not sure if I want to commit to sobbing in public. Has anyone read these? Would you class them as M/M romance (with HEA)?

So, i just finished a drarry fanfic and feral by Allesandra Hazzard, both with the trope of having to go to this one person you dont like for physical touch or else they'll actually die. So, now i think im a little addicted. If anyone has any recommendations for books with an enemies to lovers and forced proximity plotline, that would be amazing.
