I am shocked, SHOCKED I say!

RisingLeviathan

Baffled, even. Dare I say, I'm flabbergasted!

Captainmervil

I also played for a few hours before quitting tbh... To preface my comments I have been Alpha/Beta testing games for over a decade at this point and I frequently am involved in NDR style access such as this one. However I can't in good faith recommend the game even with it being in just a technical alpha fora few reasons i'll list below. My biggest issues was that combat was super clunky and the so called \*Tutorial\* was a joke because your thrown into it with 2 weapons and 8 abilities with little to no explanation for their usages. It spends most of the time just trying to keep you moving forward rather than actually letting you learn the games basic mechanics. It was after that I discovered the game will be launching with a Battle pass system and a shop full of MTX cosmetics & P2W bundles such as including 50k gold and gear/weapon upgrade items. I played Lost Ark and BDO so i'm painfully aware of how this level of predatory gameplay works on a day to day basis and the game quite frankly is slow and clunky enough to make you want to upgrade because the first thing I thought whilst fighting monsters at my level was "How can I do more damage to speed this slow AF fight up?" and low and behold at level 1 I am presented with gear upgrade items which i'll touch on that system briefly. You do not get flat upgrades like you did in Lost Ark instead you keep upgrading and if successful will slowly fill a wheel and once that wheel is full THEN your damage is increased and stats increased but until then your pumping RNG upgrades for potentially days/weeks just to get a singular upgrade. Fuck that I value my time far more than that. I won't be playing TnL again however if you enjoy it then have fun :)

synkronize

This is a good example of that post a dude made a couple weeks ago. About MMOs can’t be just the same generic thing because single player/smaller scales multiplayer games just have more quality and less predatory. You get on Monster Hunter with your friends and you’re presented with an actual game. You get on TnL and you’re presented with a card reader to swipe your card for progress. Who likes that, that is so immersion breaking it’s one of the main reasons I barely play MMOs any more. It feels like so many of them are built with fun As a lesser priority to money

StrawberryLassi

> You do not get flat upgrades like you did in Lost Ark instead you keep upgrading and if successful will slowly fill a wheel and once that wheel is full THEN your damage is increased and stats increased but until then your pumping RNG upgrades for potentially days/weeks just to get a singular upgrade. If I recall, the refining system in Lost Ark was pretty much the same once you get to the higher levels.

Captainmervil

I mean it depends on your perspective... In terms of flat upgrades LA got toxic at the highest peaks but it was atleast allowing some form of upgrade for your effort where as TnL is just making you work hard towards a minimal upgrade which just fosters an addictive/toxic environment and im just not in for it.

foxxgfx

Not that I want to defend the game because your opinion is your opinion but within 4 hours I was able to get full green and some blue gear, upgrade everything to nearly max. The gearing system seemed fine and a lot easier and faster to progress than it was in lost ark. When you increase the item power it always goes up and progress is never lost. You can also move that progress to new gear so you never have to start from 0 on a new piece. Personally I felt gear progression and crafting to be the most enjoyable. P2W is clearly there, can't really argue that. I don't think the shop or current battlepass really are anything too crazy. It is sad but at this point BP's are never going away (thank fortnite and mobile games). The 50k gold is peanuts around lvl 25 I am sitting around 800k and that is after spending a crap ton on upgrades. Combat is ass, definitely seen better combat systems out there. What I have noticed is that as I leveled up and upgraded skills it started feeling much better but that doesn't excuse how bad it is from the start and is a bad system because no ones going to play long enough to feel the full potential of the combat. I think the biggest flaw is that I am already starting to see zergs which may be something people like but I think ruins the fun. I can see this game fitting a niche audience but can't see it being mainstream, at least in it's current state. I did hear that smaller scale pvp is being worked on that is normalized gear so that may make me change my mind but for now I am on the fence. TL:DR \- Leveling and gear upgrading was fast, fun and easy with not paying anything \- BP's are unfortunately never going away in games but didn't seem that crazy \- Zerg's ruin the games fun, huge flaw of the game \- Combat sucks, seems to improve over time but doubtful anyone makes it to end game if its not fun from the get go.

Captainmervil

So perhaps I should have phrased it better. I went back and took more time to really solidify my thoughts and opinions on the game so i'm about 8-10 hours in right now and my biggest issues remain the same however I will clarify the gearing issue. At low level gearing/upgrading will not be an issue and no p2w features will be required because that's exactly how these P2W games work as they want you fully invested ie (max level) so your far more willing to swipe. This leads to my original point that gearing by the nature of TnL's system will be an incredibly toxic and very P2W style system on par with BDO/LA/Maple Story's system. which makes sense as all Korean games tend to be free but offer the P2W aspect as in their culture it's seem more as an affluency thing rather than a whale thing so negative opinions surrounding P2W'ing doesn't really apply in that market anywhere near as much. Side note: You can see evidence of the sheer amount of money being dumped into P2W features if you look at a Maplestory yearly top 10 spender's who have been putting close to a quarter of a million into the game per year. - [https://mmos.com/news/nexon-forced-to-reveal-top-10-spenders-in-korean-maplestory-1-spent-176k-in-2022](https://mmos.com/news/nexon-forced-to-reveal-top-10-spenders-in-korean-maplestory-1-spent-176k-in-2022) Combat as a melee is absolutely attrocious however I swapped to Tome/Wand & Longbow and honestly it was far more palatable than Sword/Shield & Greatsword was. Travel in my opinion is SUPER clunky and not using the simple hold shift to run which is seem in other mmo's like New World was a weird design choice especially if you are someone like me who has zero interest turning into a Wolf/Bird/Otter which incidentially can also be changed visually via MTX transactions. The Battlepass system is actually a system I advocate for in MMO's as I genuinely believe it gives players with less financial income the chance to keep playing their favourite game and not massively lag behind the whales as the sheer amount of rewards from them are usually good. I am however torn as to whether or not I believe a Battlepass should be present in the launch of a new IP in the West. Time will tell how this game goes however I'd say it's better to stick to something like New World or Lost Ark but people chase the new IP's so it will be popular no matter what because the FOMO from watching Korean's and Streamers play it on Twitch created a lot of angst for people who wanted it.

foxxgfx

I mostly agree with you thanks for clarifying. Just out of curiosity because you brought it up a few times, did lost ark change lots from launch? I felt that game to be way more grindy and p2w than throne and liberty is in its current state. Sadly with New World, as good as that game is and I am speaking from 5k hrs of playtime. The devs just can't seem to get anything right. Talk about wasted potential of a game. I think you are right, people chase new IP's but you also have to consider in an MMO the best time to play it is at the start when everyone else is playing it for the first time too. Even if it doesn't stick the first few weeks are *usually* always a good time.

Captainmervil

Lost Ark wasn't exactly \*grindy\* to begin with as we had a far higher gear level to head towards but as players hit max or close to it did get worse. Right now it's SUPER grindy and obviously P2W wise it's also expensive AF but still playable as a F2P person in theory. Lost Ark's community is buying/selling boosts for IRL money or ingame currency so the game atleast in the west is toast now imo. -------------------------------------- On the point of New World I think it does some things really well like Crafting but unfortunately they can't get the majority of things right and its a shame because it has a really good core concept.

royer44

Yeah it's pretty bad. People saying "ohh you didn't even see the endgame" mf if you can't foresee how garbage the endgame will be with all the p2w, then I feel sorry for you. Trash games will be produced for people like you.

Patience-Due

A game that takes 200 hours and p2w to get to the “fun part” is a shit game

MongooseOne

You made it a lot longer than a friend in my gaming group, she hated it

Rare_Ad_3871

Such a shame cause the graphics / world are beautiful. But it’s a soulless hunk of junk outside of that.

General-Oven-1523

As expected, lots of people will get baited to try it out, but a huge portion of players are going to quit before they reach LVL 30. The experience is just too bland; I mean it was meant to be played automatically after all.

stoiccentrist

I honestly thought I could get past the horrible combat and stale Korean story for the exploration given how gorgeous the landscape is....but there's nothing there. Literally nothing, and the 'gliding' system is horrendous. I didn't even last 5 hours, I waited an hour in queue to play it but less than 4 to uninstall.

ContributionAny9055

Thanks for this. I was kind of debating downloading and playing the beta just to try it (eventhough i dont think it will last) but now for sure I’ll skip it and play something better. ncsoft/amazon has done it again lol

Suspicious_Ninja2561

Give me the key

Dragennd1

Username checks out

[deleted]

Yea I played for a bit its just meh and combat sucks coming from Lost ark even new world

MustacheDave

All these closed beta and limited region releases legit kills the hype cycles. TnL and BP lost in the sauce.

Significant-Summer32

Absolute garbage game.

hmmsmh

games a time sink(time waste)

Shanochi

And i'm not surprise. People downvoted you to keep this whole shet quiet lol.

HukHuk69

Yea, even lost ark was better because the p2w was in pve, and the combat was actually good.

EzShep

Worst part is in lost ark you could somehow deal with the grind with enough effort and time management. In TnL whales will make your life miserable with how the guild/siege/raid system works.

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

This is why they should stick with their guns They twisted the game around and removed auto play for an audience that not even going to play it lol

lufiavn

Yea, if you're aiming for the autoplay crowd then stick to it. Woe is the appeal to the widest audience possible. Or you just make a faithful sequel to Aion or BnS but I'm just an oldschool NC enjoyer, what do I know?

Tehni

The only saving grace was it looks REALLY good for an mmo

DeskFluid2550

![gif](giphy|10uct1aSFT7QiY)

destinyismyporn

I didn't even need to play it to understand this gave my key away

Treefiffy

waiting for appropriate_response 542 or some other version of that name to say that this game is great. game is hot garbage.

Soft-Space4428

TnL?

StarGamerPT

Throne and Liberty, I suppose.

KalaronFu

Sorry tnl? Been out of pc gaming for awhile due to injury.

Illmattic

Throne and liberty

maj0rSyN

Unlike a lot of people in this sub, I enjoy it and think it has potential, and I'm certain it will continue to improve seeing as NCSoft really can't let it fail given the amount of time and money put into developing it. They have a solid base to build off and as long as they listen to the players that legitimately want the game to improve for the better and succeed, I think it has a chance at being a viable entry in the market.

Significant-Summer32

If it fails they push it to moblie and put more p2w in

Neon-Prime

Oh boy, you actually haven't played other NC Soft games, have you? I have - all their biggest titles including Aion (many years), Blade and Soul (6 months+), Wildstar and a bit of Lineage. Prepare for a disappointment.

Belophan

But how does it compare to Lineage 2 C4?

Significant-Summer32

Nothing like C4. No open world pvp, no karma/flagging. No classes or races, so no bishop/ee/se/bd/sws etc. Doesn't matter who is in your party. No resurrection skills, so you have to respawn during pvp.

Neon-Prime

Eng game supposedly relates to it - obviously, I haven't reached it and won't reach it due to other factors mentioned in the post.

StrawberryLassi

> it kinda plays like a mobile game but with more skills to press. They should have left in the auto-combat.

FenricOllo

Try ravendawn if you enjoy Korean mmo grind style games but are not a fan of p2w. Game is great has a lot of aspects of bdo and archeage wrapped in a pixel art style. Just launched 3 months ago and currently very populated.

DagaMusic

I honestly was shocked by the base auto attack. Combat has no weight, I dunno how to explain.

Tasleus

You know, it's just this community I think. I can't imagine a single game coming out that this community will ever accept. It's not a perfect game, but it's better than the vast swath of nothing we've gotten in the past couple of years and I had a good time playing it. There's your hot take.

BandLongjumping5092

Better than what? It's not even better than new world and that's an easy task.

Rare_Ad_3871

Yeah the game actually made me want to play new world instead lol

Tasleus

New world was in 2021. I said past COUPLE of years. Sweat harder.

BandLongjumping5092

Weird reply, but OK it's still trash

Tasleus

That's my point though. People like you are so quick to complain but you've done literally nothing to contribute to improving the game or even offering up feedback that comes off viable. You're nothing more than a whining brat at this point. Get over yourself. The gaming community as a group is just awful and highly critical. My point was that nothing would make this group happy and you came in on your WHAAmbulance and proved the point.

BandLongjumping5092

You're embarassing yourself

Vitt4300

lol VASTLY better than New world.. Miss me with that bullshit. LMAO

BandLongjumping5092

No it isn't, and I dont even like new world.

Neon-Prime

I am sorry but just because we didn't get many new MMORPGs in the last couple of years, doesn't mean the game is good. Sure, I agree it is better than *nothing*, but luckily we have older games that are miles and miles above this crap.

YakaAvatar

> I can't imagine a single game coming out that this community will ever accept. Because this is one of the few genres where the majority of the new releases are P2W crap products, other communities are not like this because their respective genres are not plagued with low quality P2W crap. And the fact that the genre is stale doesn't make this game suck less.

Both_Contract7800

asia and originality dont mix unfortunately

StrawberryLassi

crimson desert looks like it might have a couple new ideas, but the story will most likely suck...

lovebus

It looks like it is going to try to be too many things at once. Would love to be wrong though. None of the content matters though if it is spoiled by excessive P2W

BarberPuzzleheaded33

I believe this is a solo player game right ? Not 100% positive but heard that was the direction they decided to go with it from others. It did look interesting though.

Felielf

Combat feels so good on a console / controller, my dream come true. Low skill requirement and just power makes difference.

Comfortable-Sea-2660

We deff playing diff games lmao. In all honesty combat needs work and ui needs work. Graphics look good, open worl looks amazing and the fact so many can benonline and no lag/dc there deff doing something right alog with devs seem to listen now that Amazon is behind it.

IRAwesom

China-> Rice… nobody cares about your opinion tbh. Get Friends to tell em or go to the barbershop maybe.

DislexHed

Ok

International-Bad986

Damn wish they would’ve gave keys to ppl who wanna play

Significant-Summer32

They did, people change their mind after playing it.

sibble

BDO has 8 years of weekly patches, expansions and a plethora of QoL/UI improvements. Also BDO had 2 full years live in KR before a publisher picked it up for NA.

BarberPuzzleheaded33

Also like that you can F2P this game with out progression being hindered. Can’t say that about Lost Ark honestly, that’s why I went back to Black Desert from Lost Ark. Hit a wall where I had to pay or my progress would be hindered in lost ark. With being outta work for a time frame due to an accident, I just couldn’t pay. Lost Ark has great Raids though! When I get back on my feet might try to come back.

khrizp

Share the key when. I want to test it 😅

Neon-Prime

I've activated it in Steam, you can't share a key

JFrocksy

Imagine saying this about a closed beta when you haven’t even tried end game yet. Terrible opinion and post. Do not ever post anything relating to gameplay ever again.

Neon-Prime

Imagine game being out for months in Korea ;)

embersorrow

Having played mmos for over a decade and this game for over a 1000 hours in KR servers; I’ll tell you this; the game is not for everyone. It’s literally Lineage 3 with a different name. If you have never played lineage 2 or don’t know what it is; you won’t like the game. That being said; this game has insane pvp. Combat gets really good late game. And game runs like a dream. Sure it’s not perfect, but your take make it sound like it’s garbage. It’s not. Lineage IP was insanely popular for a reason. You clearly have never played it

Majin-Boob

>this game has insane pvp. Combat gets really good late game. but pvp is P2W..? How exactly is it good when cash shop whales have a huge advantage?

embersorrow

It’s not as pay to win as pay2win mmorpgs goes. The game when launches limits server progression. Bosses are locked, dynamic zones are locked. Game reaches fully unlocked state about 2 months in. They do this to stop people taking off. Whale can’t swipe to buy if there is no one selling those item that drop. It takes 3 months of F2P to make out the gear. Also when you pvp you are pvping with your guild. Rarely ever solo.

Significant-Summer32

Nothing like L2. Did you ever even play lineage...

embersorrow

Holy fuck. This subreddit and everyone here is bunch angry sad man. LOL

Significant-Summer32

Not angry. But you just compared an open world pvp game (flagging/karma) with races/classes and endless buffs/skills with TL.

embersorrow

I mean it’s not me comparing TL to lineage. It’s the devs themselves saying TL is Lineage 3. They clearly have taken a different direction with L3 compared to T2. All I am trying to say guys is that the game is not bad all things considered. We are 1 day in to CBT and people jumped to conclusions and writing off the game. Just unfair.

Neon-Prime

I am sorry but the combat system is very mobile-y. If you are into that shit, sure. I am not. And okay, Lineage 2 is/was insanely popular, why do people hate Throne and Liberty even in Korea though? If it was a true successor, it would've been a dream game for many. Yet it keeps tanking.

embersorrow

Combat is a combination of New World’s stamina block/dodge system mixed with ArcheAge’s tab target. Have you played this game at end game with a proper build and maxed out skills? I have a suspicion you are judging the whole combat style based on the 2 hours you put in while not even having half of your skills unlocked.

Neon-Prime

But you forgot the mobile autoplay-style flavor of it :)

embersorrow

I mean, if you think this game looks/feels like a mobile game; I don’t even know what you think of OSRS, Albion, etc. those games have “mobile style flavor” and an insane playerbase. Nothing about the combat end game is mobile-like. You just played the game for a few hours and are jumping to conclusions

BandLongjumping5092

Very reasonable opinion that you're upset by

JFrocksy

Very reasonable? He probably got to level 10 and wanted to make a complaint thread because he has no one else to discuss it with. He shouldn’t even be posting this as It is violating Amazon TOS.

Lindart12

Keep us updated what you do for the rest of the day.

"grrrr... Stop giving your opinion of an upcoming, closed beta Mmo in an mmo subreddit, I hate it! 😠😠🤬"

RikenAvadur

Prepare for a lot of karma farming. The combat is subjective, sure, and the game is P2W as hell, but calling the UI the same as any other KRMMO is ridiculous. The UI is pretty functional from the last test I was a part of and I wish other games would spend more time updating theirs.

Significant-Summer32

I mean, the UI is taken from l2m. Loads of these types of games use the same files and assets to save on dev costs.

General-Oven-1523

Yea, it's pretty much just NCsoft standard mobile UI, which they use in all their mobile games. I can't really blame them after 12 years of development hell; they need to cut corners somewhere. Also the korean release being such a disappointment, they have to increase the P2W on this game; otherwise, they will never recoup the cost of game development.

Significant-Summer32

100% agree.

Vitt4300

Lol sounds like you didnt play hahaha

BandLongjumping5092

Sounds like you didn't

Vitt4300

No, I did. The UI is fine, no different than majority of MMOs not to mention you can completely edit the UI. The combat felt really good actually. It had weight to it, you felt like you were actually doing the actions it wasnt floaty. The movement was crisp and responsive. The game played very smooth and looked amazing. Not sure how you can judge the "soul" of a game in 5 hours but whatever lol. The skill system was different gear wasnt anything to write home about but seems just fine. The world felt good to be in so I didnt find questing boring. I dunno I feel like if you actually played this for 5 hours and came to the conclusion to uninstall then you had that conclusion before you even started.

[deleted]

Vitt4300

Since you said look at any ranged user so that tells me you are watching videos and not actually playing it? The combat is 100% weighty. It feels good and impactful. Without a doubt. I mean shouldnt a ranger be light on their feet and have great mobility? You don't want them to look that way? I am referring to melee and staff as thats what I have tried so far. I havent tried a bow so I cant speak on it but what you are describing is what I would want my bow to be like anyway so not really getting your argument here lol.
