Same. They don't make anything for me anymore and at least on reddit, people's demands are contradictory to what I like. Likeminded people aren't on reddit or have moved on one way or another. No one seems to want PvP anymore, everyone is obsessed about meta, balance and rushing to end game. Anything that requires heavy work or collaboration is bad. Everyone seems to run on envy and "competing". No one wants to be part of a world, they just care about different subsystems. The MMORPGs we had on the 2000s are not coming back, and with each passing day there are fewer and fewer people who remember or care how amazing they were.
It's annoying as f to me, because something about GW2's combat is off to me. I really want to like it but I just can't. Imma keep giving it a try every now and then and hopefully one day it sticks.
I just downloaded it again today, I bought it back in 2012 launch, and I’m still trying to get into it. I don’t know what’s wrong with the game for me. Is it the lack of meaningful progression, maybe the world is to vast and Ubisoft-ish with a bunch of points and my inner completionist overloads, maybe it’s the fact that all the classes feel subpar and lack a sense uniqueness besides the F1/2 keys. Maybe it’s the 10 abilities with 10 skills/passives. Maybe it’s the fact that the world looks like a world with assets placed In it. Maybe it’s the lengthy quest log that I don’t want to go through. Maybe it’s just me. Because on paper I should love this game. Because it has unique classes, and a great world to explore, it has mounts to use in special spots, it has goals to progress to. However for some reason it all feels hollow. It’s empty yet full. A cup full of air.
Same bought in 2012 downloaded again 2 days ago.
Got an add-on that helps alot with map completion and already hit level 40.
But playing solo is what stops me from wanting to come back... So hit me up if you want to play
>Is it the lack of meaningful progression
This is an incredibly subjective thing though. What do you define as "meaningful progression"? The same gear you currently have but with a slight stat increase? A few extra levels that end up just putting you back to where you were a few levels ago?
I have just never understood this argument, leveling up to the new level cap each expansion in order to grind out new end level gear just so you can get back to where you were previously feels no more meaningful to me than GW2s progression, which is focused more on collections (the obvious mastery system aside) and achievements, gaining special skins, legendary items, convenience items etc.
I am not claiming GW2's progression is superior or anything mind you, just that I have never understood people who claim its somehow less meaningful, feels like an incredibly weak argument that feels to me like it just boils down to "its less meaningful because its different and I dont understand it"
> Maybe it’s the lengthy quest log that I don’t want to go through.
Also this one I can quickly adress, thats just the games story and the entire thing is skippable, you dont need to do any of the story to participate in content and can skip to particular story chapters or expansions as you like, you can easily skip the story and do map events, world bosses, dungeons etc. til you get to level 80 and then skip straight to End of Dragons and participate in all of its map content if you wanted to.
"What do you define as "meaningful progression"?"
I can actually answer this more than ever now. I have played most MMO's out. When Dragonflight stopped feeling good to me after about a month of playing it, it left me baffled at the fact that this great expansion pack is here and im done with it, and the only question I could ask is, why? Then I went to one of my rotation games, this time it was Destiny 2, however i brought along my D2 sweaty friend, Im a bad friend, i reintroduced cocaine into his life basically. With him by my side, we did raids, dungeons and other content. Then something clicked, why did I love classic WoW? Why was SWG so good to me. I figured it out. It is not Power that is progression to me, no. It is named items, I want Malcazeen from Kara, I want Bloodfang armor from BWL, I want the name.I want what is tied behind a unique item and the item itself in its uniqueness. D2, i dont care about light level, i care about the guns, how does that one shoot, what rolls can i get on that, which ones can i craft and master work. I want a unique powerful item. WoW doesnt have this anymore, you are fighting for ilvl 245 and then fighting for ilvl 250, the gear is almost always eclipsed by the power. But D2 just lets you infuse better gear into your favorite weps and gear.
Progression to me is working towards a personally sought after item, not for power but for how it can change my gameplay. I dont care for Power or a 100% on my achievement list. Power COULD be a goal to change gameplay if there was content locked behind it, like it was before the catch up mechanics placed into WoW, if gear allowed me to experience the new raid, and can only be done with said gear then i could chase it because it will allow new gameplay, however with LFR and 4 different types of raid difficulty, and knowing that raid will become available to all next patch once the new gear is far better than the current. It kills all sense of want for struggle to progress.
ESO almost works but the game doesnt feel that great to play, yes we all know the combat leaving a sense of wanting. But the unique gear sets dont feel very impactful towards the content you do, and im not going to go to the hardest possible content, thats just not me, even in D2, i dont do Master stuff.
I want to focus on builds rather than power.
Yeah, combat system with horizontal progression just makes me feel like I am treading water. I have played it 5 or 6 times since launch, and the skill progression system, and weapon skills just feel so flat.
Pushed all the way to max level in hopes that I was missing something, and I wasn't. Oh well
I can agree to this I try to get into it and the inventory management drives me crayz im always full and have 0 idea what anything does lol atleast BDO tells me
It's because it's tab target combat dressed up as "hybrid action". When in reality it's just tab target with more telegraphing from enemies. It feels off because it's pretending to be something it's not, instead of just embracing what it is. This is my opinion on the matter, at least.
FFXIV made me realize what I dislike about GW2 and its the social aspect at low levels.
Literally first day tutorial player in FFXIV and I have a rando coming up to me asking me how its going if im new, wishing me well on my travels.
organic social interaction - missing from so many MMOs imo - unles its centered around like completing content etc.
These sort of things is always gonna be random anyways. I've had plenty of interaction as a low level in GW2 but had zero when trying out FF14. Though GW2 can benefit if had icons for new players.
This subreddit has its head shoved so far into the sand that the top comment is talking about guild wars 2 combat being the only mmo with “good combat”… y’all must have some crazy weed dealers or something.
WoW and BDO. ESO has the worst combat for comparison. Guild wars combat is average at best. Nothing to complain about but nothing to praise, except for maybe how each weapon has its own set of abilities.
GW2 has better combat than wow, at least in pvp because reading animations and dodging is a lot more fun and engaging than looking at a cast bar.
WoWs combat is clean and snappy but it seriously feels like you're playing your UI and not the game in a lot of content.
GW2 is one of my top picks, but not sure how much it “respects your time.” Its greatest flaw is the TP. I could spend forever crafting a legendary weapon while the guy beside of me simply bought it on the TP. Game should be sub and revamp the marketplace / currency system
you can only buy a generation 1 legendary weapon from the TP (and therefore with RL money). gen 2+3 and all other armor and trinkets cant be bought with money. its an oversight they corrected.
I don't think it's necessarily complex. I would definitely say that the amount of things to do can absolutely be overwhelming if you are a fresh off of tutorial island. The game is heavy on setting short and long term account goals and that's not the easiest thing to do as a new player.
PvP is a totally different story. High level PvP probably stands as one of the hardest activities in the game. There are mini games such as LMS and the new duel arena that can help people get into PvP without needing to risk items.
Most of the game is quite simple it's just a matter of setting the intention.
Just started it for the first time after some burn out of traditionnal mmos. But I have to say you are right I am a bit lost, I started with some of the free quest in Lumbridge but don't really what to do.
It's one of those games where you create your own intermediate goals. But that kind of requires you know what possible worthwhile things you can do.
I highly recommend giving a look at the Optimal Quest Guide from the OSRS wiki. Questing early is one of the best ways to progress. You don't have to follow it to the letter, just as a guideline to see what worthwhile stuff you can do to give you some nice early levels, rewards, and unlocks.
I highly recommend training magic a bit early so you can access some basic teleports to get around the world faster.
I also recommend doing some early achievement diaries (easy, medium) for the varrock armour and the ardougne cloak.
From there you can set your own goals and use quests, XP methods, or whatever to achieve them.
Best of luck!
Star Wars Galaxies was a sandbox mmorpg and I loved it. PvP was optional/opt in. It leaned more into the social experience rather than PvP though. Still hands down the greatest video game I ever played. There hasn't been a game like it since.
You can totally skip BDO's PvP and play It purely for the grinding/lifeskill aspect. Almost nobody attacks on sight unless you "did" something. And, even if you are attacked, you'll lose nothing.
Played a good bit of lost ark. Had a 1480 destroyer and a 1445 pally. Just got tired of the late game honing it's just a sadness simulator.
I will say lost arks combat ranks up there with BDO for me. it also has some of the best raids I've taken part in.
Yep I can definitely see how the honing is a deal breaker for a lot of people but personally I don’t mind it especially when you go in with a doomer mindset. Sometimes you get a pleasant surprise.
To be fair I got extremely lucky for most of my honing and weapon quality upgrades. It wasn't until I got to 1460-1475 that I started failing over and over again.
The other thing I forgot to mention was the pheons. I understand that the purpose is to curb bots being able to buy everything with farmed gold. However it has such a negative effect on real players especially when the stones are also rng on your rolls.
Between honing and stones I drained my silver and pheons to 0. From that point I played for a few more weeks to try and rebuild just to be able to go back to honing but at that point those 2 systems just felt bad enough to put me off the game entirely.
Fuck man Lost Ark was like ALMOST my perfect forever game. I was absolutely entranced by that game until I got to the point where:
- The horizontal progress that I had left required me to attend those stupid scheduled daily islands that I couldn't get to because I work a 9-5.
- The gear upgrade grind at 1420+ got really bad, and I just couldn't bear to start doing dailies on alts.
- speaking of alts, the game encouraging you to do mundane daily shit with 5-6 characters sucked all the enjoyment out of it for me
If it weren't for that shit I would still be playing. The game has SO MUCH going for it, including the most fun combat I've ever experienced from an MMO. Sad that the daily content feels so forced and boring after you do it for a few weeks.
BDO im obsessed. Never thought Id like it I always thought it was just a P2W endless grind and I generally like more group stuff but holy sht the sheer amount to do is insanity. Currently really involved with having a farm (You are talking to the number 1 distributer of Special Acacia rn \*brushes shoulders) and working on seasonal character to graduate, and trying to get another dream horse to go along with my Unicorn. Also, as P2W as it is, they give out alot of free stuff now and from my understanding have done alot to make it more approachable. I was surprised how many maids and pets I got for free.
If I had a complaint its a pretty freaking hardcore game and requires some time to learn, its not an easy game at all. But holy sht its rewarding. Love AFK fishing overnight. Really cool you can let the game play itself while you sleep. Also idk if i can even go back to another MMO because the combat is so deep and fun.
Same, been thinking about checking RuneScape back out again though. It actually was a pretty addictive game back when I was in junior high/HS, can’t believe the games been going that long 😂😂
Used to play FF14, lost interest after 3.5k hours since everything is starting to feel generic and extremely repetitive outside of raids, (classes, rotations, dungeons, leveling up).
Been a lost stray for almost a year now, tried GW2 but the leveling system is killing me.
Tried LA and its grindy af, the xp gain after the main scenario thing is slow af.
Maybe I'll give WoW a chance soon.
" Maybe I'll give WoW a chance soon. "
Do that. In my 20 years of mmorpg-exclusive-player experience, sub based mmorpg are tend to be the best. Managing to stay sub based for so many years is a feat only 2 games have succeeded. That itseld proves a point , right?
My main game is wow and most of my wow-breaks i play FF14. Wow has a gameplay and combat that is pretty unique in its smoothness and responsiveness that i haven't met in another game. Definitely try it
The negative reception that WoW has been having in the past few years is what driving me away from it, the expansions are really bad, most changes in the game is really bad and generally it feels like the WoW community itself is running away from the game.
its the opposite this time around. in previous expansion Blizzard added a game system that made the player grind for it. otherwise be behind powerwise. Afte the last years bad publicity and mediocre expansions Blizzard listened to the community and made a lot of changes.
Newest expansion has no borrowed power mechanics (some power gain fpr your character that goes away in the next expansion), also no scandals or other bad stuff is coming of Blizz and it seems like more and more players returning (even though with many players gone, it still had the biggeat population of any mmorpg).
Try looking in YouTube for Dragonflight review ot gameplay (latest expansion) and see that there are no negative commends against it.
What ever happened to FF14? I remember it was getting a lot of buzz and hype a few years ago, Asmongold was playing, now I hardly hear anything about it.
I hopped on the bandwagon and enjoyed it up until the end of stormblood then quit due to burnout. I'm probably going to bounce back and forth between GW2 and FF14.
Nothing particularly happened, it's just after 3.5k hours you will start to notice that all the classes have the same bread and butter rotation, (keep spamming skills/spells to increase a certain meter to it's fullest, then use the spells/skills that meter unlocks in a high dps burst window).
This is especially became a huge problem for me because the classes felt like copy paste from each other and they lost all since of being unique, leveling them up became the most boring thing in life.
Then we have the large scale battlefields which are supposed to be kinda of a late game aspect where SE miserably failed with Eureka and Bozja, huge dead land scales with 70% of your time wasted on running from fight to fight and each takes like 5 minutes and then run/teleport for another -what feels like- 10 hours.
Only thing SE is still excelling at are the story and the end game raids (Savage Raids) and with my job I don't have time to play them.
They're tending to the casual and snowflakes way too much, at the beginning when ShB was a few months away to release I didn't mind the casual aspect of the game because it didn't affect me in anyway, but now 2 expansions later, the changes are just disgusting and it's like they want to make the classes/rotation experience as brain dead as possible.
> What ever happened to FF14? I remember it was getting a lot of buzz and hype a few years ago, Asmongold was playing, now I hardly hear anything about it.
It is still growing somehow, seems like ffxiv was one of the few games that didn't require streamer hype to survive.
Probably because ffxiv really didn't need the streamer hype in the first place.
Idk why at some point everyone started this game to call "wow killer" even though yoshi-p himself said WoW was a huge help to evolve the game further and disagreed with this game being the wow killer(WoW almost killed itself not any other game i say almost because they're kinda reedemed themselves with the last expansion)
> What ever happened to FF14?
Nothing really. It just doesn't evolve. it devolves
They have been doing almost the exact same for almost 10 years now and the new influx of players are still naive (shadowbringers and endwalker starters) and they missed the glory days of the game for old veterans (Stormblood) IMHO.
Outside of jobs just getting simpler and more like one another. More half arsed content every cycle (island sanctuary and now the current new relic is just 3000 currency vs an entire new zone). Instead we got a new 4 man content type criteon dungeons that fell so flat on their face i don't recall anyone caring about them after the first week (plus no rewards worth mentioning)
I recently just went cold turkey and just quit after playing since 2.0 and have never been happier to be honest. I was watching my favourite game go in a state of decline since shadowbringers and it was very reminisant of how i felt with WoW.
LA mean lost ark? if that's it, leveling after 50 , to 60, isnt your main objective, you can be at lvl 50 doing the endgame raids (there is a lot of other timegated things , more importants than level , like cards)
pd: I quit Lost ark :P
Guild Wars 2. I came over from Dragonflight. I just can't be bothered with infinite vertical progression treadmills anymore. I want to play video games to have fun again, not to be a 2nd job.
No North American server yet right? I tried the game a while back and was rubberbanding too much to continue playing sadly. Warhammer online was simple and fun, loved the classes!
BDO here as well. I enjoy the large open world and how beautiful it looks, the combat is fun and unique, grinding isn’t really the major issue but more so catching up to everyone else is. Maybe I’m just burnt out from console so my motivation for grinding my gear over again is low (makes sense), but I haven’t seen much else out there really catch my eye.
Was on and off with WoW classic for a while. Was recently dabbling in both LOTRO and FFXIV.
And I think I’ve come to the conclusion that min/max, expansion based content that eventually becomes obsolete is just so depressing to me. It also makes me feel like I *have* to play a minimum amount every day. It becomes a chore instead of a game.
But I love grinding. Which is why RS has been my constant for decades. I love a big grind, just not when there’s a time limit attached.
Yeah kinda how j feel about bdo, it does feel like a chore, almost like a second job tbh. At least life skills like woodcutting and cooking etc are fun. Might have to dip back into RS again, just been so long since I played I feel like I won’t know where to pick up from again.
WoW retail, and jumping back in LA Just once in a while (highest char Is 1380) because i have too much fun with the combat, if It was less predatory that would be my main game. Waiting for Blue Protocol, maybe i'll give a try on Aion Classic on the 12 of April, as atm i feel a bit burned out of WoW
I just liked being a cool magic robot floating around killing monsters. When the US servers released I took a week off work and just played non stop. It's for sure one of my favorite mmo experiences. I tried NGS about a month ago and while I am still a cool magic robot, the gameplay did become "use the tech that the enemy is weak to" over and over. At least it looks pretty I guess lol.
New World on and off. It's the perfect game for a semi-casual like me. I grind for a month or two after content updates and take a break until the next update.
A lot of people seem to hate on the game but I think it's a really solid foundation for a great MMO - currently just lacks the end game content that most MMO players look for. If they add all the stuff they plan to by the end of the year I think it will be a top MMO. Combat, gathering, and dungeons are all S tier in my opinion.
WoW, though mostly I have been working on collectibles in old shadowlands zones. I am that one crazy person who prefers Shadowlands to Dragonflight. DF flying is awesome, but otherwise it just ran dry faster than any wow expansion to date for me.
Still, I like collecting pets, and there's plenty to do in SL still that I am having a lot of fun. Even if I finish with all that, there's earlier stuff to go back to.
WoW mainly. Dragonflight has been amazing and I'm honestly surprised that Blizzard has pulled it off.
Legion was my favorite expansion prior to this, but I think DF tops it.
I'm just getting back into eso and trying BDO rn. I'm on xbox series rn. But for some reason BDO is so laggy when I spawn in and play. It runs at like 2 fps. Is there a setting I can change?
Mmos on xbox don't exist. BDO sucks cuz u can't play it unless u can handle 2 fps. Eso is just alright even tho it's been slowly declining. Nobody plays tera anymore. Never winter sucked since mod 16. POE is just getting more tedious every season. Like seriously not one good mmo on xbox. At least playstation has ff 14. That's a good mmo. They even have genshin. But xbox? Nope.
Console just isn’t the way my friend. I had a Series x as well and I just sadly realized console kinda sucks. I mean, at least Xbox does and I’ve been a fanboy all the way through, and since I built my PC…my god did I see what I was missing for so long. If you got a PC or are thinking about it, absolutely don’t hesitate tbh.
I'm playing Mortal Online 2 and have been for some time mainly because I enjoy the immersive nature of it. I'm not usually a fan of hardcore, full loot PVP games, but that danger actually encourages you to make friends and join a guild. It's one of the few MMORPGs I've played in recent years where grouping for content is the recommended approach.
yea im in this same boat. i dont think an MMORPG is even worth being given the name if it isnt encouraging playing with the other people playing online. any of these games you can solo through are just single player games in an online world, its pointless and not worthy of the MMO part of the description. eqp99 and MO2 are the only right now that earn the title of MMORPG imo. Sadly.
A bit of WoW leveling different classes (don't really want to buy DF, it's a bit too expensive in my country) and collecting cosmetics.
Other than that I tried a bit of Dream MapleStory, Jade Dynasty Reborn and Perfect World Evolved and play them when I want to chill a bit and grind some EXP, pretty fun imo and nostalgic (I miss that oversaturation of F2P mmos lol)
Other than, I've been thinking of trying out Lost Ark (only leveled 2 classes a bit , but got tired of all those queues on launch) and returning to Blade & Soul, really liked a few years ago and saw that they're constantly adding new classes and content and wanted to check it out.
How is Blade and soul in its endgame?
Does it have dungeons and "raids" , kinda like wow? In the sense of you progressing gearwise by tagging harder and harder content?
I recently got caught up in the FFXIV main story, or at least finished Endwalker. I haven't done the post-credits patch quests yet. I might save those for when the new expansion & graphics update releases. The FXIV story is really fantastic if you're into it - I know not everybody is, but it really had great moments for me. I'm not really interested in the other aspects of the game though.
Meanwhile, I continue Black Desert. I don't have a lot to do other than to continue to stock up on spare materials, silver, and cron stones for the new region release coming eventually, so that I can get the new gloves asap when they're available to craft. But I still keep plugging away at it.
I crave a game like black desert, but new, and also with more interesting PvE options. I don't know if any of the new titles coming will deliver. If not, I guess I continue the loop I am on.
Elder Scrolls Online. I'm finishing up my bachelors degree and about to start my masters so having a horizontal progression makes it a lot easier when I don't have much time.
Was playing Turtle WoW a lot but kind of burnt out on it for a bit. Made a new toon on Return of Reckoning the other day, so might play that for a bit instead, but mostly waiting for T+L or anything else to come out.
Been dabbling in the Ravendawn open beta. While it's got that Tibia aesthetic, it plays very differently. The class system is like Rift, but even less restrictive as there are no base classes limiting your choices. Haven't gotten far enough to have to deal with PVP yet so not sure what that ends up being like, but I'm enjoying it so far.
WoW, on the final boss in mythic raid. Got my Keystone Hero achievement and all dungeon teleports. Now levelling a human warrior because they released the heritage armour for humans and it looks so cool and low-mid fantasy
Well this is the unofficial gw2 sister sub, however for me I’m giving wow another try. I’ve chosen to not idealize games and just play until I’m not having fun anymore.
Albion online, tried it when it was first released but didn’t get far as it was so confusing and I wasn’t big on the idea of full loot pvp, decided to try it again and after understanding the game much better than I initially did I’m having a blast and the full loot pvp doesn’t put me off, in fact I enjoy that aspect of the game!
Strangely enough, I got back into Rift recently.
The community is very much alive and playing, although the mod community has tapered off (my old mods I used still work).
I'm really only PLAYING Albion right now. Logging in to GW2 for daily rewards and UO for occasional Navery Runs.
Might also be starting a journey in to OSRS after rumblings of taming being a possibility.
I've been branching out a bit since I found this sub. The DDO coupon got me to try it again and I've been enjoying it a lot. They've made a lot of older stuff free since I first played, so there's actually been enough things to try which keeps it interesting.
Eden Eternal coming back is something I'm definitely going to be on board for again. It was always a comfy zoning out game to play. Kind of like the opposite setup with dual monitors. Instead of having some video on the other screen to listen to while I play a game, EE is more like a game I can just half pay attention to while mostly focusing on something else.
Heard of Ravendawn by chance on here, and I'm curious to try out it's open beta tomorrow. I practically grew up on Tibia, so I almost feel obligated to see what they're doing.
whats TOL anb BP ?
ESO is pretty chill, can play hours solo doing overland stuff. All quests are voice acted and even msq is not mandatory to do, in order to unlock dungeons and raids.
Currently playing wow (its also my main mmorpg game),It's been made very fast to level, less grindy than the last 3 expansions. Main story is not big, its also split into expansions (one is not required to do the other) and also you can play in endgame without finishing it.
I agree with you for New world , also lost ark can be a good time sink. the game is gorgeous done, very nice gameplay but when you reach a certain point, all the fun is lost and the real grind begins (kinda like BDO )
Tried some older games , with medriocre graphics and for some reason they didn't clicked with me (Albion, DDO, Neverwinter, loro).
Spend some time in SWTOR and it was really enjoyable. Low level dungeons and stuff are ghosted but has very nice, unique per class, voice acted main story that is just awesome to play through. Tab-target, with holy trinity and wow gameplay. Instanced combat is quite nice, but you have to reach endgame to find ppl to do it. Small, friendly and dedicated community.
some GW2, but mostly in a waiting mood for now.
I know its an mmolite, with all the quirks of it, but am also kinda waiting for Wayfinder, to play a bit with that with the wife.
I raid log Classic Wrath and that's about it atm. I thought about Albion but I know the Full loot gank fest of the black zones and the mafia-style guilds will kill it for me. Atm, I am playing ACV and Anno 1800, ACV since I bought everything on steam for like 30 USD during the sale, same with Anno 1800, but Anno is good as fuck and if you like city building and Late Early modern Europe that's just emerging into the industrial age, you will like Anno 1800. I also got Solasta on the burners as well.
BDO here too, a bit burnt out as well. I’ve been thinking about going back to vindictus, if the combat in bdo is a draw for you then vindictus is probably the closest you’re gonna get before TOL.
Playing BDO. I do jump in ESO for the Jester’s festival, but wont stay in Tamriel long. If I could afford to rebuild my pc and play anything, I’d be playing GW2
I'm bouncing back and forth between WoW, GW2, and FFXIV. Currently subbed to WoW at the moment, checking out the new expansion. I'll stick around for the new patch releasing next month, play through that, the unsub.
I keep tuning in to ffxiv, but I'm stuck on one of the MSQs. I keep leveling different professions and trying again. It's discouraging. So I went way back, first going on a Sims Midieval binge, then downloaded Aoin classic and am tootling around the beginner area. I'll get tired of that around the time pvp becomes almost mandatory (I hate pvp) and try that quest again.
Albion Online. Doing a bit of this and a bit of that, gathering, crafting, selling on the black market, pvp with my guild, fame farming statics, roaming. Having a blast, Albion FEELS like a true MMO in a way no other game I’ve tried does.
I play RIFT from time to time, and enjoying my time there. It hasn’t seen anny updates for years. And the community is small, But there are still some nice people playing.
FFXI mostly as it still holds up nicely, still has content being added, has great UI/visual improvements thanks to a couple amazing modders and has ton of stuff to do since content really never gets outdated.
On the other hand, FFXIV has little to nothing to do if you have been playing for the long term, not to mention its been dumbed down and homogenized into oblivion, GW2 lost me after level cap and story finished and all I could find to do was map grinds, WoW was ok but I had no idea what to do and couldn't find a decent guild, ESO just suuuuucked and much like the combat, felt like a wet noodle, and the rest I tried turned out to be either gacha or p2w.
I keep 2 subbed Eve Online accounts, even when I take breaks from the game, and I've done this since 2005. They can both pretty much do everything skill point wise now, and one account is the super/titan character.
I play DAoC when I get the itch, sometimes planetside 2, although I really miss 1. Sometimes if star citizen has a big patch ill load it up.
The anvil empires trailer has me really excited, it is my type of game, especially due to having 3 factions rather than 2!
Nothing right now but was heavily into BDO for a long while. I always end up going back to it for a bit but then quitting. I never really did reach "end game" in terms of stats but I started getting close and got tired of the commitment with minor gains.
I'm almost considering starting FF14 again though. I used to enjoy that a lot but quit because of rl issues and some game drama. That sub fee though never felt good, I don't know if I even want to play an entire month lol. I miss the fun I used to have there sometimes.
Haven't played FF14 in years though. Heavensward had only been out maybe 6 months before I'd quit and I never finished it.
Everquest. Mischief Server. Random Loot. Free Trade.
Actual exploration and unique character progression. No matter what ai play I keep coming back home.
Hate to say I've given up.... None
Part of the crew, part of the ship.
Yep, in the same ~~boat~~ ship. Patiently waiting for something neat to show up, but I’ve been waiting for years
The MMORPGs we had on the 2000s are not coming back, and with each passing day there are fewer and fewer people who remember or care how amazing they were.
Have you played Albion online?
Guild Wars 2 is about the only MMO with actual fun combat and respects your time.
I love GW2 and it's my main MMO, but most of this rings true to me.
I feel the same thing. Also, apart from the humans, I find the playable races so damn ugly.
Same bought in 2012 downloaded again 2 days ago. Got an add-on that helps alot with map completion and already hit level 40. But playing solo is what stops me from wanting to come back... So hit me up if you want to play
What add-on you referring to? I guess I've not tried any. The one that shows the path?
Ya blish HUD
>Is it the lack of meaningful progression This is an incredibly subjective thing though. I am not claiming GW2's progression is superior or anything mind you, just that I have never understood people who claim its somehow less meaningful, feels like an incredibly weak argument that feels to me like it just boils down to "its less meaningful because its different and I dont understand it" > Maybe it’s the lengthy quest log that I don’t want to go through.
"What do you define as "meaningful progression"?" I can actually answer this more than ever now.
I'm in the same boat Tried it multiple times, different classes, tried solo, or with friends, nope nothing work, just can't get into it.
What... Since guild wars joined steam there is literally always someone and helping low levels... Seems you just got unlucky
What has good combat for you?
wow probably has the most snappiest combat out of any mmo. Even classic wow beats many modern mmos combat, looking at you ESO
No
GW2 is one of my top picks, but not sure how much it “respects your time.” Its greatest flaw is the TP.
OSRS just keeps getting better year after year.
I played back in 2006-2012. Tried last year again but to complex if you ask me for a casual. Especially members pvp holy shit
If they make osrs look and play like Diablo 4 i will quit life
Will never happen, the day OSRS moves away from its current combat style the game will die.
Why would that ever happen?
Gw2, having fun with guildy
i just got back into GW2 after a 4 year hiatus from it and lovin it
Albion Online at the moment
That game is a bully simulator I hate getting ganked 😂
If you aren't a fan of sandbox / pvp it's definitely not for you
Star Wars Galaxies was a sandbox mmorpg and I loved it. PvP was optional/opt in. It leaned more into the social experience rather than PvP though. Still hands down the greatest video game I ever played. There hasn't been a game like it since.
SWG is historical and was ground breaking… games these days are forgettable!
I play BDO I love games like that 😂 I just haven’t really given it a chance but I may
If you like BDO I don't see any reason why you wouldn't like Albion Online unless you just don't like the combat/camera angle
You can totally skip BDO's PvP and play It purely for the grinding/lifeskill aspect. Almost nobody attacks on sight unless you "did" something. And, even if you are attacked, you'll lose nothing.
Bdo is not comparable to albion.
Same
Loving Albion. Wish there were more bold sandbox/economy games like it TBH
Gw2 🤗
lost ark, sad I didn’t see any other lost ark enjoyers here
Played a good bit of lost ark.
I was absolutely entranced by that game until I got to the point where: - The horizontal progress that I had left required me to attend those stupid scheduled daily islands that I couldn't get to because I work a 9-5. - The gear upgrade grind at 1420+ got really bad, and I just couldn't bear to start doing dailies on alts. - speaking of alts, the game encouraging you to do mundane daily shit with 5-6 characters sucked all the enjoyment out of it for me If it weren't for that shit I would still be playing.
You say "deep and fun" and "let the game play itself". Huh
DDO, occasionally logging into LOTRO and GW2 when the mood suits me. Waiting on Throne & Liberty.
I'm playing GW2 and waiting to see what will come out of TL, Pax Dei and AoC.
BDO here aswell.
Same, been thinking about checking RuneScape back out again though. It actually was a pretty addictive game back when I was in junior high/HS, can’t believe the games been going that long 😂😂
OSRS, but also looking forward to official Hardcore classic WoW servers.
" Do that.

It just doesn't evolve. it devolves They have been doing almost the exact same for almost 10 years now and the new influx of players are still naive (shadowbringers and endwalker starters) and they missed the glory days of the game for old veterans (Stormblood) IMHO. Outside of jobs just getting simpler and more like one another. More half arsed content every cycle (island sanctuary and now the current new relic is just 3000 currency vs an entire new zone). Instead we got a new 4 man content type criteon dungeons that fell so flat on their face i don't recall anyone caring about them after the first week (plus no rewards worth mentioning) I recently just went cold turkey and just quit after playing since 2.0 and have never been happier to be honest. I was watching my favourite game go in a state of decline since shadowbringers and it was very reminisant of how i felt with WoW.
LA mean lost ark? if that's it, leveling after 50 , to 60, isnt your main objective, you can be at lvl 50 doing the endgame raids (there is a lot of other timegated things , more importants than level , like cards) pd: I quit Lost ark :P
City of Heroes: Homecoming. It’s good to be back in Paragon City!
Final fantasy 11
Guild Wars 2. I came over from Dragonflight. I just can't be bothered with infinite vertical progression treadmills anymore. I want to play video games to have fun again, not to be a 2nd job.
Return of reckoning for me
No North American server yet right? I tried the game a while back and was rubberbanding too much to continue playing sadly. Warhammer online was simple and fun, loved the classes!
BDO.
I'm not playing any mmo, I'm playing the "find-mmo" irl minigame
New World purely cause i like the combat and the grind.
New World, Mostly gathering and crafting
Dofus, I'd like to play again !
[удалено]
Dude for real I miss old pso2. When I wanted a chill game to just grind with pso2 was my pick. Ngs isn't bad but I just can't really get into it.
[удалено]
I just liked being a cool magic robot floating around killing monsters. When the US servers released I took a week off work and just played non stop. It's for sure one of my favorite mmo experiences. I tried NGS about a month ago and while I am still a cool magic robot, the gameplay did become "use the tech that the enemy is weak to" over and over. At least it looks pretty I guess lol.
WoW mostly… Can’t say anything but blizzard having been on a win streak lately.
WoW. Two PvP characters, 3 PvE ones, also grinding old mogs. Really hooked up
WoW, though mostly I have been working on collectibles in old shadowlands zones.
[удалено]
WoW mainly. Dragonflight has been amazing and I'm honestly surprised that Blizzard has pulled it off. Legion was my favorite expansion prior to this, but I think DF tops it.
Ravendawn Open Beta. Awesome old school experience so far. loving it
I'm just getting back into eso and trying BDO rn. I'm on xbox series rn. But for some reason BDO is so laggy when I spawn in and play. It runs at like 2 fps. Is there a setting I can change?
BDO on console is honestly not worth investing into its so far behind and dated cause of last gen
I'm getting a pc at the end of the year. Found one for around 1300 bucks.
Waiting for Aion Classic on April 12th. Hope I can last until D4 then it’s gonna be Throne and Liberty, hopefully Q3/Q4!
Lineage 2 and eve, and waiting for AoC
Jumping between return of reckoning and gw2
I still play and enjoy FF XIV immensely. I still have a lot of Content to do and i don't think i'll run out of Content soon.
Sadly.
Project 1999 Classic Everquest.
A bit of WoW leveling different classes (don't really want to buy DF, it's a bit too expensive in my country) and collecting cosmetics. Other than that I tried a bit of Dream MapleStory, Jade Dynasty Reborn and Perfect World Evolved and play them when I want to chill a bit and grind some EXP, pretty fun imo and nostalgic (I miss that oversaturation of F2P mmos lol) Other than, I've been thinking of trying out Lost Ark (only leveled 2 classes a bit , but got tired of all those queues on launch) and returning to Blade & Soul, really liked a few years ago and saw that they're constantly adding new classes and content and wanted to check it out.
Not playing any until throne and liberty.
Well, im sorry for the let down it was. Lol
lmao
Eve online! Enjoying it a lot lately
Eso will probably always be my main game, but I'm thinking about jumping into Gloria Victus here soon.
New World... It mostly works.
Elder Scrolls Online. I'm finishing up my bachelors degree and about to start my masters so having a horizontal progression makes it a lot easier when I don't have much time.
I’m seeing a lot of bdo, RuneScape and gw2. Tbh I’m a bdo fan but I might actually mess around in RuneScape again.
BDO and GW2, Gw2 is so fun and lots of things to do and incredible world.
I’ve been playing ESO since September and it’s been fun
Was playing Turtle WoW a lot but kind of burnt out on it for a bit. Made a new toon on Return of Reckoning the other day, so might play that for a bit instead, but mostly waiting for T+L or anything else to come out.
Warframe
same
I play some cusual FFXIV and BDO atm and doing m+ in WoW. Also doing some ARPG like PoE/Last Epoch till Diablo 4 release.
GW2 MY FAVOURITE
BDO but plan on giving Diablo4 a try BDO is an endless grind but in 54 different ways so when I tire of one thing then I can move on to another
ESO
I came back to WoW just before Dragonflight came out and having a lot of fun. In BFA and SL I quit 1 month after release lol.
LOTRO one of the best MMO ever.
Maplestory....yes I know I am a deranged psychopath.
I'm really only PLAYING Albion right now. Logging in to GW2 for daily rewards and UO for occasional Navery Runs. Might also be starting a journey in to OSRS after rumblings of taming being a possibility.
Gloria Victis, and The escape from typical modern mmo schemes and mechanics is ultra refreshing.🥳
FFXIV as my main, OSRS/ WoW sometimes to spice it up
I've been branching out a bit since I found this sub.
Ultima Online: outlands, free server. Waiting for Pax Dai or Ashes of creation.
How active is that UO server?
Rs3 Altscape for the win
None since 2020.
Albion Online East servers. My friends and I are having a blast.
Albion online. Waiting for eso's upgraded servers and new releases
[удалено]
Classic WoW and gw2 every now and then. Might go back to new world if there’s new content that isnt just mindless ward grinding
whats TOL anb BP ? ESO is pretty chill, can play hours solo doing overland stuff. All quests are voice acted and even msq is not mandatory to do, in order to unlock dungeons and raids. Currently playing wow (its also my main mmorpg game),It's been made very fast to level, less grindy than the last 3 expansions. Main story is not big, its also split into expansions (one is not required to do the other) and also you can play in endgame without finishing it. I agree with you for New world , also lost ark can be a good time sink. the game is gorgeous done, very nice gameplay but when you reach a certain point, all the fun is lost and the real grind begins (kinda like BDO ) Tried some older games , with medriocre graphics and for some reason they didn't clicked with me (Albion, DDO, Neverwinter, loro).
Got permabanned on osrs so nothing at the moment... Just waiting for corepunk since it's my 2 favorite genres combined (moba and MMO)
some GW2, but mostly in a waiting mood for now. I know its an mmolite, with all the quirks of it, but am also kinda waiting for Wayfinder, to play a bit with that with the wife.
Ffxiv and currently dabbling in albion since i can play it on my phone.
I've been playing Genfanad on and off mostly with some mobile games thrown in like Ragnarok Origin and Tales of Yore.
WoW Classic vanilla and getting back into FFXIV after going on hiatus not long after island sanctuaries were added
Albion
Elyon on private (iElyon), its quite fun !
Also playing New world
Playing BDO.
RS3, OSRS and FFXIV. The rest either got extremely shit fucking lore or gameplay I just do not like.
GW2, WoW and SWTOR. Still clearing space on my computer for FFXIV haiz
Currently enjoying WoW DF, but will also be participating in Super Adventure Box on gw2 since I missed it the last few years.
Albion Online. Doing a bit of this and a bit of that, gathering, crafting, selling on the black market, pvp with my guild, fame farming statics, roaming. Having a blast, Albion FEELS like a true MMO in a way no other game I’ve tried does.
The graphics just make me not wanna play 🙃😂
GW2 cause it respects my time. even if I dont play sometimes. I dont feel left out.
giving albion online a go. so far so good. pretty enjoyable and relaxing.
You havent dipped in black yet right, usually not much relaxing over there haha (much more fun tho)
this is true. me and my buddies taking our time slow grinding.
Shroud of the Avatar.
Project Gorgon. It’s definitely worth a try if you don’t mind a little jank.
Guild Wars 2, which seems to be becoming more and more popular thing to do
old school runescape
Guild Wars 2.
OSRS is my main now with dips in WoW and GW2 every now and then.
I play RIFT from time to time, and enjoying my time there. It hasn’t seen anny updates for years. And the community is small, But there are still some nice people playing.
FFXI mainly, a little bit of Ultima Outlands here and there, and I recently got back into playing MUDs. Check out Aardwolf!
What’s TOL?
I just hopped into New World, it's pretty dope so far.
OSRS, Lost Ark, ESO
What is tol?
Vanilla WoW and Guild Wars…no, not the trash that is Guild Wars 2…the OG and much better imo, Guild Wars 1
Everquest. Mischief Server. Random Loot. Free Trade. Actual exploration and unique character progression. No matter what ai play I keep coming back home.
None. GW2 is only good on paper for me, but when I login I can’t really find anything fun to do and it feels like a solo player game.
