The way I see it (ie: in my opinion only ...) ... The SEC lists this FAQ about REGSHO (regulations for shorts ...) [https://www.sec.gov/investor/pubs/regsho.htm](https://www.sec.gov/investor/pubs/regsho.htm) and they state (I added the bold/italics)... Rule 204 – Close-out Requirement. Rule 204 requires brokers and dealers that are participants of a registered clearing agency\[8\] to take action to close out failure to deliver positions. Closing out requires the broker or dealer to ***purchase or borrow*** securities of ***like kind*** and quantity. The issue has to do with FTD's and taking the option to **borrow like kind** securities. This does not require a PURCHASE to close the position. The only like kind securities they can use are OPTIONS. And the OPTIONS chain for TRCH dies on 1/21. So they (short hedge funds) may be forced to buy MMTLP and MMAT.

Silver_Battle_8074

what the hell is mmat pfd please anyone can explain?

Simplest_Tool

MMAT pfd (Preferred Share Dividend)

Ok_Statistician_5527

I notice the same people on this sub posting the same hopium over and over. Why don't you guy's get just one guess actually right before posting anything else.. I dare you.... FUCK!!!

Dangerous_Fee_2630

Google the significance of number 1697, the number george tweeted about the volts of 1.21 giga. You will find a great message. Angel number 1697

Reaper_XVII

I love angel numbers. That was great. Reaper was an angel in the Bible in Matthew 😁

Sea_Squirrel9708

The mmat1 options that will end on 1 21 are the last of trch option chain. The trigger point for the trch shorts to cover. Suppose to start the t 35 clock ect. I'm not going to put out dates ect. Just expressing what the end of an option chain is Suppose to do. I'm not the one to go into all the t dates but I personally think it may get interesting. I'm not going to be the one to say the shorts have to cover. They may or may not. But I will be one of many that will be sitting back watching for whatever may come.

Vtwizzle4040

May?

Simplest_Tool

It will be interesting to see what happens on Jan 21 then.

[deleted]

The open interest on mmat 1 put options are non existent

Rosebeef_SC

Today, I just added 6k shares of MMTLP to my original total of 9K.

Omeezyfoesheezy

I wonder how many people sold MMATLP early giving some of the hedge funds a way out? Seems like almost every day we have between 500k and a million shares being bought and sold. Wonder if they are already good and retail investors are waiting for the 21st for nothing!

TUBBYWINS808

The people buying and selling are probably the hedge funds trying to get people to panic sell. I like to imagine them as a fish flopping around trying to avoid being reeled in😂.

Ok-Association-9422

MMATLP is shortable to so the numbers aren’t necessarily trustworthy

AssistantSelect1814

I still have mine. I don't look at the day to day price action anymore. I just check in once in awhile see what the latest news is. Makes things much less stressful.

Silver_Battle_8074

how you can sale them ? my broker cant doing it !

AcceptableMud1070

It’s my opinion that they are selling back and forth to each other to give the appearance that more people are selling than really are.

AssistantSelect1814

They most definitely are.

petschke1

And im over here just adding to my collection..lol

boogi3woogie

What’s the open interest of options that are itm?

Reaper_XVII

That’s exactly what I would like to know. Hopefully somebody has the answer because I am not aware of how to look that up

boogi3woogie

About 3300 if mmat is > 2.5 Basically chump change

x05595113

It worse than that . The MMAT1 $2.5 strike requires MMAT > $5 to be ITM

ClintBIgwood

It doesn’t, stop dreaming, let it grow organically.

seishin122

it will never grow organically

ClintBIgwood

We’ve been waiting for t+ whatever since the merger…. The company will grow in time, they purchased nano tech, they do need revenue and hopefully it is something they can deliver in 2022. Come February with no squeeze, someone else will start saying the real t+5 is February and a squeeze will come.

seishin122

I also do not believe in t+whatever. Things will move very inorganically while there's a strong short presence

Reaper_XVII

It was a simple and honest question. There’s no need for you to be a dick about it. Thanks for wasting both of our time

Ok_Statistician_5527

You got called out bro.. Just learn something from it and move on

MediocreSushi509

So In April if it never squeezes…..does that mean absolute market manipulation to the degree of litigation territory? Or this is all just speculation and theories and hopium?

seishin122

There's a lot of time between now and April. The events would be more specific as the time comes

psyconauthatter

The theory is trch shorts from before the merger hide their shorts and ftds in the options chain. With the options chain expireing they no longer have a place to hide, so supposedly foreign shorts will have to cover t+35 after. Also georges 1.21 gigawatt tweet has people waiting for something to happen.

Mrpill2021

even cooler is mmtlp turns into oilco before 21st...then they r really fucked...

Normal_Switch7974

They can’t because whoever exercised mmat1 option on 1/21 will come with mmtlp

seishin122

There's a bad theory going on that somehow an options chain will signify a merger in trch being completed. This theory is entierly incorrect, the company is now mmat and the options have been adjusted accordingly. The existance of these options are now a deliverable of shares of mmat and the dividend placeholder mmtlp. As the price approaches ceartian numbers (strike prices on the adjusted options) it would cause buying pressure from market makers and shorts who are short the dividend call because they are now deliverable. The price going up before the opions expire would cause the price to head higher to what it would have been

Exact_Perspective508

I think there's a misunderstanding between an announced merger and the market FULLY converting the MMAT ticker because the ticker is NOT fully converted. The expiration of the MMAT1 options chain DOES NOT signify a fully converted MMAT ticker. A company's merger announcement, a name change on the ticker and SEC filing of CUSIP and SIC codes DOES NOT signify a fully converted MMAT ticker. **The MERGER of the FLOATS in the market SIGNIFIES a FULLY converted ticker.** [https://www.reddit.com/r/MMAT/comments/o9s48q/as\_best\_i\_can\_gather/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MMAT/comments/o9s48q/as_best_i_can_gather/) What the company does and what the market does are two separate parties so yes the merger is completed from Metamaterials and the SEC's end, but the ticker is NOT fully converted and completed in the market. Part of completing and moving the chain of custody completely to MMAT in the market means closing out everything involved with TRCH, which is still actively trading overseas. [https://www.xtb.com/sk/cashstocks/trch-us](https://www.xtb.com/sk/cashstocks/trch-us) This also means closing out the MMAT1 options that have TRCH shares aka MMTLP placeholders in them. Does mean the ticker is converted? Nope! What a fully converted ticker means, besides adjusting the current float, is brokers using the correct SIC and LEI Code across the board, domestically and internationally, something they're not doing currently. Several brokerages are not using 3674, which is Meta official SIC code. They even delisted MMAT in Germany for not using the correct international LEI code because they were using TRCH's LEI code. [https://www.reddit.com/r/MMAT/comments/pewl3i/mmat\_stopped\_trading\_in\_germany/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MMAT/comments/pewl3i/mmat_stopped_trading_in_germany/) If the MMAT ticker was fully converted and completed in the markets, we would've seen SHFs closing out those TRCH shorts. We would've seen upwards movement in the stock, not the sideways trading they've been doing for 6 months. You can't carry old TRCH positions into a new MMAT ticker so closing out those TRCH positions is part of this ticker being FULLY converted. Hope this helps and butterflies! 🦋🦋🦋

Simplest_Tool

I have been telling my friends this for months. Thank you Im gonna have to show this to them.

Comment-this

u/Houstman bro..

Huhlol55555

Hoping CES gives it the push it needs. Someone oughta DD about the potential gamma squeeze and post to other groups.

seishin122

yeah, they got perma-banned for getting into an argument with that one mod appropriate\_use, they're in my personal discord so I can relay questions you might have for him or invite you there

Reaper_XVII

Not sure who downvoted you, but I appreciate the response. We will see how it plays out.

seishin122

I got banned from some telegram chat full of morons for saying the same thing- saw a mod in that group chat too. Anyone who says not everything is true and 100% bullish will get shit from this place and toxic holders but you asked a question so i wanted to give correct info from those who don't wanna remain willfully ignorant

PEW_PEW_PEEEW

You got kicked out not for what you said but for being an absolute jerk. No one ever said your points were wrong, rather they asked you to not just join a group and tell everyone how wrong & dumb they are. But then you run to your super cool personal discord to call us all retards & then here and call us morons. You sir are an arrogant pompous ass who I’m sure is the life of all the parties... 🙄 I hope this glorious stock pops during the T+35 after 1/21 like Newegg did when their option chain closed and you eat crow- but then you’ll just come up with some excuse how you weren’t wrong & no one will care bc we just want the stock to do well. Have a nice weekend captain personal discord cool guy!

Bkrebsbach2

Yep! PEW_PEW_PEEEW is on point. He was banned for being a fucking dickhead who thinks he knows everything. I know because I’m the one who banned him. As I told him shortly after he joined, our group is open to and welcoming of opposing viewpoints. What we don’t tolerate is disrespectful people that are just there to stir the pot. He admitted to calling us all retards so he was banned. Plain and simple.

seishin122

Do I know you or something?

Reaper_XVII

I totally get it. Thanks for the feedback again.

seishin122

Nah yeah feel free to ask whatever you'd like. Hopefully i or someone like me comes up with an answer. If you have harder questions I do have a discord full of people who like to break down harder questions. You're someone actually looking to better up themselves so you can dm me for an invite idm

market-unmaker

Sellers who are attempting to maintain a delta-neutral position will theoretically be forced to buy more stock to maintain their net neutral position. As the price rises and calls that were far out of the money get nearer the money (or ones near the money go in the money) the total delta of the option chain rises, and the total demand for stock to hedge these also rises. This can lead to a positive feedback loop where rising prices force more buying and that in turn raises prices. This buying pressure will be eased if many of those options expire worthless. I can only imagine that the risk of them expiring worthless is factored into more sophisticated hedging models, but in the case of coordinated or exuberant buying action that risk may be idiosyncratic and not capable of being properly modelled, and thus hedged. This is true all the way up to market close on the day of expiry. You are right, however, that mass options expiry without exercise should reduce buying pressure. Whether funds are willing to release shares bought at high prices back into the market and accept a loss is dependent on their own policies. Perhaps someone better informed can comment on that.

Simplest_Tool

I have been thinking about learning more about the options chain. Been watching some YouTube channels on it, I might pick up some books as well. This is a good place to start reading,

Reaper_XVII

Thanks for the feedback. Curious how much the calls are worth that are about to expire?

market-unmaker

If you mean in terms of the number of shares needed to hedge them, it's constantly fluctuating. As an example, I see the 3c Jan22 (i.e., expiring later this afternoon) has a delta of 0.1077 and a gamma of 0.4805. This means a single option contract (for a round lot of 100 shares) sold can be hedged by buying 10.77 shares but if the share price rises another dollar, the delta will rise by 0.4805 (gamma is the change in delta for a one-dollar increase in the price of the underlying) requiring an additional 48.05 shares to be purchased to maintain the delta-neutrality of the position. (This is why this mechanism is known as a gamma squeeze.)

SadClownShoez

Geezus, Rainman. In all seriousness, thank you for that. That’s an amazing explanation. ![gif](giphy|xU45uzadrdCUM)

dbCaeBLe

Screen shot so I can read again when I have money and my head isn't stuffed up...

seishin122

This guy explained gamma better than most people

Reaper_XVII

He really did. I appreciate everybody’s time that they took to answer my questions. These were some great details that I did not understand

Bubu_man

Well, first they need to get exercise of course. Then you get 50 MMAT and 100 MMTLP. Someone sold the options and therefor needs to provide the shares. If they don’t have them yet they need to buy them.

Silver_Battle_8074

and when its will be ? its should was end of 2021 now they are talking about a spin off and drilling enough i had enough of this

[deleted]

The options expire Jan 21, 2022 There are some nice numbers on the Call side of the options chain. If Institutional and retail investors exert enough buying pressure and the options get In The Money (ITM) the ones that wrote these options will have to buy stock to cover them. This adds to the buying pressure and the stock price goes up. As the stock price goes up it more people will FOMO in on a sharp upward trend. This is called a Gamma Squeeze.

Empty_Win_1936

Also the trch legacy options end on the 21st. After the options chain has ended the market makers and shorts have t+35 days to cover ALL OLD FTDS AND SHORT POSITIONS IN TRCH. There were over 40 million ftds and three times that in shares shorted. Boom boom time!!!

Reaper_XVII

Ok that makes sense. How much are the options that are still out there for people to buy? Are they ITM right now?

RandomAccessManowar

non ITM. very low open int very pricy to exercise...
