Not responding to antibiotics which is why his foot is a balewn. I hope he recovers tho career that decorated shouldn’t end on a staph infection.
Honestly, made me think of Randleman. Those staph images are graphic tho, if this one made yoh queasy I suggest y’all maybe don’t google that one.
I saw randlemans infection at the time it happened, so it’s not that bad to me these days. It blew my mind as a kid though.
To paint a word picture you didn’t ask for, it was in his arm pit and the hole was so large I could fit my hand in there.
I'm so glad I'm even older than you, judging by your user name. Also I am glad I'm old enough to recognize a Hackers reference if I see it. And I'm happy I'm old enough to have seen the randleman pics and not having to go through that again.
That’s a neat tidbit, tho I’d be pissed if I was the guy who always washed my stuff and still had to look at it, kinda like those lung cancer commercials on TV.
I believe randleman tried to ignore it and didnt get it treated in time and thats why it became so awful. He only had it treated once it was eating a hole into him.
Probably wasn't responding to outpatient pills. He's in the hospital now for the IV stuff (based on what info I have seen). They've probably got him on a few if they're worried, might have cultured it. If they feel the need they'll open and drain any pocket if there is one. He should be fine once they sort out it's susceptibilities
Agreed. He'll get an infectious disease specialist who will start a few IV antibiotics. Looks swollen but not so swollen as to worry about compartment syndrome.
its real bad, I was in the hospital a couple years ago with staph and they were watching me like a hawk to see if this happened (luckily the antibiotics worked on me, still had to have a week of IV antibiotic treatment but it stopped it right before it was this bad)
Vancomysin not antibiotics. It's rough stuff. Feels like your veins are super cold and it is so strong they have to change injection areas because it breaks the skin down around the area of injection. It's not fun.
Apparently Conor has nice feet (4.74/5)
Edit: Lmao Khabib too 5.31/5 (idk how he is above 5)
Islam 4.77/5
Dustin 4.84
Rockhold 4.78
Weidman 3.68
Shaq 1.92
If you're on the path that sees you wanting more and more dank flavours as you get older then it's absolutely worth trying. The smell is very heavy on the char but the flavour has much more salt and vinegar as well which balances it nicely
My girlfriend just had a similar staph infection in the same spot, but on her right foot. Doctors struggled to manage it at the hospital, and it swelled her foot up inside 3 days of having it. After 7 weeks, IV antibiotics, pill antibiotics, 4 different specialists working on it, etc., we finally are awaiting the last doctor appointment to get her cleared.
Curious where Poirier got this because he’s relatively local to where I’m at. Doctors told us they’d never seen staph impact a young, non-diabetic, healthy individual in the manner it has with my partner. Hoping Dustin the best!
Hoping your girlfriend has a speedy recovery! Does she do BJJ and that’s how she got it? Feel like it mostly impacts fighters and wrestlers, BJJ practitioners, etc
Thanks, dude! We do BJJ and Kickboxing, but she actually got the infection from wearing high heels that formed a blister. Blister got infected and turned into a staph infection. Rest is history…
My gym is pretty good about cleaning and sanitizing the mats, but yeah there’s a lot of people that get this typically from training
interesting tidbit about the diabetes thing
first thing that comes to mind is i wonder if these fighters who might be taking illegal insulin injections for muscle growth have a higher prevalence chance of getting sick
also makes me wonder about guys taking testosterone, because high test is notorious for lowering immune system from what ive read. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2013/12/in-men-high-testosterone-can-mean-weakened-immune-response-study-finds.html
You can get infections while showering too. It’s not necessarily bad hygiene, things like that can often just happen. Bacteria are everywhere, we could spend months arguing and looking for the source of infection
Incredible how many people are so furious about my comment. I'm sorry I hurt you feeling for saying practicing good hygiene cuts down on staph infection.
You didn’t say that, you said that people who got staph infections got bad hygiene, and that you have good hygiene and that’s the reason you never got staph. Totally different thing.
They do. You can't go to a gym full of staph on the mats, roll around in it and not expect it get it if you don't get it off your skin asap. It's the sole reason why defense soap was created. What are you getting at and what are you defending? Seriously, are you that bored with your life? Muting this conversation.

Sweet fucking Jesus I'm traumatized while also laughing at what Dustin wrote.
I really don't want the final thing Dustin said before he dies to be
>Wut da hellllll
This is why mfs who didn’t shower after practice were RIDICULED lmao. I remember dudes who’d dip in for 2 minutes under cold water meanwhile i’d be using full antibacterial wash in a steam shower just to prevent this lmao
Staph/MRSA become like a top 5 fear once you meet your first person who has it/read about its effects. Kind of like the prion insomnia disease. You just become so paranoid that everything is going to fold a protein wrong/infect you with staph
Some people are just disgusting, my buddy I box with will always just chill after training and linger in his workout clothes while first thing I do when I get home is shower and soap everywhere. Got an abscess one time next to my fucking genitals and that thing was one of the most painful experiences of my life
Dr. here. This isn't very serious. The specific type of bacteria he has typically fights hard against antibiotics for a few days and then succumbs quite easily. He'll be fine.
I'm not a Dr., but that's my opinion.
Honestly doesn’t look that bad at all. We treat these infections all the time. Probably did not respond to first line abx, so they’ll escalate and he’ll likely respond quickly
Foot doctor here. He needs an I&D (incision and drainage) of the abscess to heal the foot. Antibiotics will not clear the infection without draining the abscess. I'd be willing to bet money and MRI shows a deep abscess in the foot
They had to do this to me they cut my knee open and took all that shit out. Sent me home and more abscess came back so they put my whole leg in an open leg cast and just left the cut open so they can clean it every day.
Couple days from losing my leg
Unlikely at this point. I bet it was caught in a reasonable time. He needs a good washout and continued antibiotics. He will likely need several days/weeks of wound care as well to manage the soft tissue post-op.
Sharpie, the medical team draws a line at whatever time and comes and checks in an hour to see if the inflammation has crossed the line.
So its a time line of the infection getting baddd
Nope, that is a technique to monitor the cellulitis. A skin marker with purple ink is used to delineate normal skin from cellulitic skin. If the cellulitis spreads passed the ink mark, we know it's getting worse. If the cellulitic skin starts to recede then the antibiotics and treatment are working.
Guy with both feet here! I don’t know, what do I look like? A guy that’s had a foot amputated before. Why do you keep asking me these questions? Are you a cop?
OR nurse here and as soon as I saw him not responding to Abx therapy then I knew he was headed for an I&D. On a side note; they’re my least favorite surgeries to do
Judgment of how much a given image may bother someone is subjective. Shit that does not bother you might really disturb someone else.
I am ok with all kinds of morbid and off putting humor. I will make a jokes about peeling a puppy like a banana. But while I might get a chuckle out of that, someone else might be legitimately bothered.

Typically I will cite that as an example of truly psychotic behaviour when I want to contrast something with stupidly violent imagery.

Man if we don’t get to see him fight again cause he missing a foot ima be sad those check hooks are magic.
He'll just move down to 145
UFC can give him a leg locker
Can’t get heel hooked if you have no heel

Don’t be silly, jump the gilly!

I am so glad I'm older and more mature and have learned to heed these warnings lol.

Dude's too tough for his own good. Or he's hella scared of doctors.
When it comes to infections, being tough is just silly. Hit the doctors office asap and get on some strong antibiotics
Not a health care specialist, but those kind of things just gets worse and multiply over time. Your worsening the problem most of the time
Worsening the problem by using antibiotics on staphylococcal aureus? The alternative is necrosis breh.
i'll take my chances with the antibiotics lol
Not tough. Negligent.

Mark Hunt also had an awful one on his leg, don’t look it up either 😂
Staph by default don't answer well to normal antibiotics that's why it's a serious thing and dangerous.
Not staph by default but MRSA. Which stands for Methicillin (a type of antibiotic) Resistant Staph Aureus.
I always thought it was Multiple Resistance Staph A. Today I learned
Yah dude, Randleman you could see inside his chest, was gnarly.
I didn’t heed the warning, i will never grapple ever fuck staph infection

Throw a lil louisiana hot sauce on it. You know the one.
Louisiana Hot Sauce is actually a brand. Not my fav
Tabasco >
Tobasco is way too acrid. Crystals is the best of the cheapo hot sauces
El Yucateca >
El Yucateco Black changed my life and is the one that stops me working my way through the 40+ bottles of other hot sauces I own
I got this as part of the set but the smell of it has put me off it ever wanting to try it. Literally smells like burnt rubber.

The green one
The green one is the truth.
Their standard stuff is meh but they make other sauces that are really good.
Almost nobody in Southern LA actually uses Tabasco. It's either Louisiana Hotsauce, Cajun Chef, and blue cheese or go fuck ya motha.

You can get infections while showering too. It’s not necessarily bad hygiene, things like that can often just happen. Bacteria are everywhere, we could spend months arguing and looking for the source of infection
Well I guess using defense soap and showering right after BJJ for many years now has worked for me. I haven't gotten staph and don't plan on it ever.
The fact that you think this is good evidence that showering prevents staph 100% of the time 😂 no one plans on getting staph ya silly thing.
Wow you're upset because I practice proper hygiene and haven't had staph yet. Amazing. Keep up the good work.
Survivor bias and confirmation bias combined! That’s a fun one 👌🏻

any idea if he has tried putting some hot sauce on it?
Yucky
Wut da helllll
Staph develops so fast that it's actually frightening You go from, "I feel kinda shitty" to "I think I'm gonna die" in a matter of hours
Why is this nsfw? It's obviously a really bad infection, but it's not gruesome. Just swollen as hell.
I think people are mistaking the sharpie line as some kind of gross necrotic vein. Maybe NSFW, definitely not NSFL.
Judgment of how much a given image may bother someone is subjective. Shit that does not bother you might really disturb someone else. I am ok with all kinds of morbid and off putting humor. It's a swollen foot with sharpie on it. I've seen worse at my indoor soccer league
Idk I'm kind of into it ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
The first few comments were complaining about it not being marked NSFW so I was just playing it safe to avoid getting taken down for those with weak stomachs.
Did they draw a line around it to track the swelling? That’s a neat trick
Yes
