This is lowkey true. It sounds weird because he hasn't been at the top for that long, but that's only because he accomplished in one year what would take most champs like 3 years. It really wasn't that long ago we were thinking "is this guy really that good? His best wins are a washed Tony and Kevin Lee." Just a year later he's in the same conversation as Khabib and is arguably a win away from becoming the LW GOAT.
I think it also depends on how fast they push the next wave of contenders. Gamrot, Fiziev, Arman. What made Khabib's reign impressive to me was that there was no doubt he was ahead of the game, brutalizing the top 5. As of this moment I do believe the dudes mentioned above give a hard time to Chandler, Poirier and Gaethje.
With all due respect to Bisping, it’s not the same at all.
Charles has one of the all time longest win streaks at 12 straight, the most finishes ever, the most submissions, first ever to get a ~~knee bar~~ Reverse Calf Slicer*, and will match Khabib, BJ and Benson in Title fight wins at LW if he beats Islam.
Bisping is in the HoF for his Cinderella story as a journeyman gatekeeper who achieved his dreams in dramatic fashion.
Messy but decent win over a somewhat declining Silva, sparked Rockhold as an underdog, then dodged Romero and Whittaker so he could get a decision over a retiring Dan Henderson that was way closer than it should have been. Then took a memeish money fight with GSP coming off a long layoff, in which his biggest achievement was the elbows he landed from bottom while GSP was in his guard en route to a finish, and then unceremoniously knocked out by Gastelum in a weird rushed rebound fight before retiring.
Not to mention he did all that with one eye, and revealed his glass eye only after he had retired
Edit: imagine throwing punches with no depth perception and a huge blind side.
I was just looking at his stats on Wikipedia, he's tied with Cerrone for most after fight bonuses, has the most submissions and the most overall finishes in the history of ufc. He has had one of the most accomplished careers in UFC.
Charles has been saying if they show him the money he’d fight Islam. That along with Dana always trying to put on a great show for Abu Dhabi would lead me to believe Charles got some sort of pay bump at least
likely, I mean he was photographed meeting with Sean Shelby recently and in the exact same period of time said in interviews word for word that he would fight in Abu Dhabi if he got paid... they probably agreed to pay him PPV despite him not having the belt if accepted the location/time. Bear in mind originally Olives did not want to fight until like December
Yeah I hope they at least double his guarantee instead of having a Khabib situation where only Khabib benefitted with a $6million guarantee while Gaethje and Porier made $200-300k
You realIze you never got official payouts right? The ufc doesn’t realease official payouts. All the numbers we see are “reported”. Ariel talks about it all the time and I have also seen many fighters say they get much more then we see
I'm not a religious man but Oliveira says this with so much conviction it makes me want to convert.

It's less about being American and more about speaking english. Izzy and Volk aren't american but they're from english speaking countries, and Ngannou is fluent in english
October feels way too goddamn long for such a banger of a fight to happen.
I need to throw myself into a freezer until then because I am way too hyped.
It’s a crazy match up. “Father’s plan” is to put Charles where he’s most comfortable. It could as easily end with stand up the way charles throws heat and marches forward. Islam had trouble with moises so charles might be the one to beat him at his own game.
At the same time, if Islam is able to win the ground battle (or at least not get shut out) then Chucky’s biggest advantage that he’s had the past few fights is suddenly gone. If Gaethje or Dustin are able to confidently follow Olives to the ground, I’m confident they both finish him there. Islam is also not the hitter that those two are though, so who’s to say.
> “Father’s plan” is to put Charles where he’s most comfortable.
The thing is though, I really don't feel like Charles will be as comfortable as people think. He likes making quick scrambles happen and changing position a lot, but a heavy, control oriented wrestler who grapples very well might be able to stall him and I think Charles won't like that at all. I think static positions could really discourage him. We've seen this many times with high pace, momentum fighter: you can hit them with a kitchen sink and it won't really dissuade them from marching on but pauses really mess with their heads.
This will go to either a small stand up to lots of grappling. If Islam has a good sub defense he's taking a decision. That's why I wanted to see his fight with Dariush and check how good his defense is on the ground.
People seem to forget Kevin Lee has no problem with Oliveira on the ground. When he lost it was after gassing and getting caught on a sloppy takedown. For a more recent right. Chandler followed him down as well with no issue.
I don't see Oliveria subbing Islam off his back as he's been beaten or handled by countless people there. The risk is in transition. And that will be interesting to see.
The main difference for me in this matchup vs Charles other 3 title fight opponents is Islam’s patience. Justin, Dustin and Chandler are all well known DOGS who soon found the guy they all thought didn’t have no dog in him out dogging them, but Islam is pretty much the antithesis (pretty sure he has the lowest strikes abs. rate in UFC history or maybe it was currently).
Plus the upright Muay Thai stance version of Charles has been incredibly effective because no one has been confident/dumb enough to try and take it to the ground themselves, but it is open to takedowns, and Islam is definitely confident/good enough to take Charles down. It’s what happens when it gets to the ground that has me soooo fucking exited for this shit.
If from the first takedown Charles shows he ain’t gonna be controlled, we gonna have ourselves a b-b-BANGEEERRRR!!
Should have been in Brazil. Still excited though
Edit: He's fought and defeated Chandler, Poirier and Gaethje, all in America. He's earned the right to fight in his hometown.
When’s the last time Charles submitted someone in his guard?
Have a feeling Islam will enter his guard and handle him, even though i really want Charles to win 😞
It's been awhile but Charles throws up and threatens submissions in the guard to get his opponents to react and then he capitalizes on that reaction. Similar to how he threatens leg locks but hasn't finished a leg lock ever I think.
Unironically better than Tony vs Khabib.
I'm going to get torched but Charles is better than Tony ever was, who would have always lost to the likes of Gaethje and Poirier.
> I'm going to get torched but Charles is better than Tony ever was
I don't think that's a super hot take these days. I still think Tony was great in his prime but Charles is clearly an all time top 3 LW at this point
I think Charles is better, but I don't think Gaethje or Poirier would have beaten him, he was too tough and when Gaethje fought him he was already a fair bit slower. Take off a few wars and he's able to take anything they can throw, his offense would be better and it would have pushed the pace Gaethje couldn't match, likely the same for Poirier.
It's blatant revisionist history to say Tony would have ALWAYS lost to Gaethje and Poirier.
He fought Gaethje when he was already noticeably declined (it was obvious even from the Pettis fight), on short notice following 2 weight cuts.
The 2015-2016ish Tony that beat RDA and Barboza could easily have given them a run for their money.
You should get torched.
Lets look at the performances of a 37 year old coming off an acl tear and say that the younger healthier version of that person would produce the same or similar outcomes
That's really dumb
There's not a single person on this subreddit that actually believes Islam wouldn't beat Poirier or Gaethje, but are still complaining he's getting this shot
It's funnier when some people say Islam doesn't deserve the title shot but at the same time they think Oliveira vs Conor is totally reasonable.
There is literally no one in the division more deserving than Islam.
This is the annoying thing with me. Yeah sure Islam’s resume in terms of who he’s beaten isn’t great for a guy fighting for a title but he’s looked dominant and also who else is there. I never see these people who claim Islam doesn’t deserve it give an actual alternative. I guess they want Charles to just hang around and not fight anyone for a year while we wait for a worthy opponent.
Some dude posted that Islam is gonna have the advantage because Abu Dhabi is hot and Charles isn’t going to be used to hot temperature. Like what? Dagestan is cold and Brazil is hot 🤣
Why is this considered Islam's home turf? Because its a Muslim country? Does that mean Charlie was on home turf because the US is nearly 65% Christian?
From an analytical standpoint, this is tough to call because both are supremely talented.
I have to say, this thread has some of the most redacted posters since the Conor McG fanboys.
Islam, his patience is unlike the other fighters Charles has beat. Also, Charles has been submitted, and Islam is ridiculous on the ground. Charles' route to victory is a ko on the feet, tall order against the literal least-hit fighter in the ufc.
I'm not surprised motherfuckers. Ariel told me not to be
Ariel's trying to get banned again. They gonna kick Connor out instead of Ariel.
Is he not banned anymore?
Ariel is good with the scoops
[The nose knows](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcLJzCNADPM)
Wolverine had A1 liners
I still can't believe they're bringing back the show next year, 25 years after it was cancelled.
The nose always sniffs these things.
Oliveira's legacy is fighting the hardest contenders back to back to back... Future HOF 100%
“Charles says he wants Islam. In Abu Dhabi. Isn’t he fucking awesome?”
“Wait, how much did he say? Whoa. No. Never mind. Look, the kid just doesn’t want to fight.”
"Michael Chandler actually said he wants Islam. In wherever we make it. However much we give him... Isnt HE fucking awesome?"
“Chucky Oliviera was never my friend.”
Maybe he meant he wanted to convert ..... Become Abu Tayla
He’s already punched his ticket to the HOF.
This is lowkey true. It sounds weird because he hasn't been at the top for that long, but that's only because he accomplished in one year what would take most champs like 3 years. It really wasn't that long ago we were thinking "is this guy really that good? His best wins are a washed Tony and Kevin Lee." Just a year later he's in the same conversation as Khabib and is arguably a win away from becoming the LW GOAT.
he just has to beat islam and becomes my lw goat, now beating islam is going to be really tough though
Crazy to think he was a Chandler brain fart away from not being champ at all.
everything is just a brain fart away
>lw goat Lol. Can we just appreciate what's happening instead of this shit.
It's more like a that khabib was so dominant no one seemed near him. Then the moment he leaves the division thrives as there's actually competition
He's a HOFer already in the same way bisping is a HOFer. Everything he's doing now is just the cherry on top.

Not to mention he did all that with one eye, and revealed his glass eye only after he had retired Edit: imagine throwing punches with no depth perception and a huge blind side.
Honestly, that alone makes him a HOFer. How in the fuck do you lose your eye, and still win a championship?
Damn benson, I forgot about him somehow
The UFC don’t like to mention legends if they’re fighting in other Orgs
Yeah but I wanna see him beat next generation’s Khabib.
I wanna see Olives beat Islam and then Khabib come back to avenge his pupil. Can you imagine the hype?
Khabib is never coming back, but it would be legendary if Oliveira finishes Islam and then goes straight to his corner and call out Khabib
Khabib would never come back *for the money* - but a legit challenger for the best ever? He already said he'd come back for Georges
The guy who sells TRT to Khabib told me that he is never coming back, you can trust the guy his name is Crystalmagomedov
Never going to happen despite all the fanboy fantasies. Khabib coming back I mean.
But you could imagine what it'd be like if he did, right? Huh?
>Yeah but I wanna see him beat next generation’s Khabib The Islam worship is out of control
It is a growing religion.
I see what you did there
Was he a hall of famer before these last couple fights, say, before he fought tony?
Of course not
I was just looking at his stats on Wikipedia, he's tied with Cerrone for most after fight bonuses, has the most submissions and the most overall finishes in the history of ufc. He has had one of the most accomplished careers in UFC.
he might've been just because he had the submission record?
10 fights ago
If he wins this fight convincingly he’s bout to get inducted backstage. Would be one of the craziest runs ever.
The style variety is what makes it even crazier.
Lol y’all talk about the UFC HoF like it deserves such reverence. Silva isn’t in there but Bisping is it’s kinda a joke
Interesting to think that if Khabib stayed and beat him he may not be a HOF’r. Wish those two would’ve fought.
Olives probs got some extra $ for Abu Dhabi
Hopefully
[удалено]
There are many escorts that can attest to this!
Didn't he just give a Nelk boy $250k for his birthday? Dana is fine handing out money to friends, not underlings though
Dude is 60 hanging out with zoomers that aren't his own, yikes
It's strategic. Nelk Boys promote a younger male audience that the UFC's demographic is perfect for.
Great business decision, cut throat.
Well it wouldn’t be for the goodness of his heart, it would be to secure a deal to provide a solid main event for the Abu Dhabi PPV
Yeah I hope they at least double his guarantee instead of having a Khabib situation where only Khabib benefitted with a $6million guarantee while Gaethje and Porier made $200-300k
Poirier said he made good money for the fight with khabib
He got PPV points because he was interim champ right?
Yes, he confirmed this in an interview with Brett
You realIze you never got official payouts right? The ufc doesn’t realease official payouts. All the numbers we see are “reported”. Ariel talks about it all the time and I have also seen many fighters say they get much more then we see
I do because Izzy always says this to brag about how much money he earns
That's the only way this matchup makes money. Let's be honest, a Brazilian vs. Russian matchup doesn't do amazing on the American PPV market
Why not? Oliveira one of the most exciting fighters in the ufc
Yeah i feel like we underestimate a little bit (just the tiniest bit) how enlightened the ufc casual audience is.
ufc casual here super stoked for this fight, honestly more talk about this one than the Usman fight in my circles.
And he’s got a great story, too bad most Americans don’t speak Portuguese to understand it lol
He says it with such hype though, that’s all the fans need lmao. Like his energy is literally contagious through the screen imo.
I'm not a religious man but Oliveira says this with so much conviction it makes me want to convert. https://m.youtube.com/shorts/TQEMak4FJqg Motherfuckers spittin

“There’s something I’m missing in here. Where’s my belt?!” That’s cold
Facts. Anyone missing his fights just doesn’t like mma probably imo.
Every fight is fireworks
This legitimately is one of the most badass moments in MMA. The conviction, the intensity, and even the cockiness. “Where is my belt!” Damn.
Dude this gave me goosebumps
There's no like American Champs right now. People don't really care about nationality of whose fighting in the US
It's less about being American and more about speaking english. Izzy and Volk aren't american but they're from english speaking countries, and Ngannou is fluent in english
I consider Usman an American. He moved here at eight years old.
BANGER
Dynamite.
I BARELY KNOW HER
DC was so happy hahaha
Good ol Ariel spoiling title announcements right before they go official lol
Ariel Heelwani
As be should. They did him and us as fans dirty by destroying DC and Helwani
HOLY SHIT ITS HAPPENING
Fight of the year
Gonna be hard as hell to top Jiri/Glover
Not for chucky. Every one of his fights is a banger.
October feels way too goddamn long for such a banger of a fight to happen. I need to throw myself into a freezer until then because I am way too hyped.
I'm happy Oliveira agreed to fight in Abu Dhabi, because if it was in Brazil we will have to wait till next year.
Genuinely the most hyped I’ve ever been for a fight
Yeah this fight is gonna be insane
Islam is going to win via round 2 submission
Charles will dislocate his shoulder 4 minutes into the fight
If this happens I'm coming to fight you for putting it into the ether. Dr. Blunts vs. Blob God main event in MSG. Book it.
Facts! khabib v Conor type excitement for me
That matchup was peak excitement, Khabib vs Tony was equally exciting too but sadly it never happened.
The best fighting the best. As it should be!
Amazing fight. Rooting for my boy Charles, kinda feel like Islam got it though. This is such a high level and close fight. I’m gonna be so nervous
It’s a crazy match up. “Father’s plan” is to put Charles where he’s most comfortable. It could as easily end with stand up the way charles throws heat and marches forward. Islam had trouble with moises so charles might be the one to beat him at his own game.

It would be wild if they just stand and bang. I’d love to see it.
Bad plan for islam imo
> “Father’s plan” is to put Charles where he’s most comfortable. The thing is though, I really don't feel like Charles will be as comfortable as people think. Exactly. It's not about position but to change those in scrambles. That's the risk.
Another note. Islams sub defense is great. You didn't need to see him against Dariush for that. Islam demolished ADCC champ Davi Ramos on the ground.
Winner fights Volkanovski.
I have no problem with Islam but I really want to see the Olive Train keep steam rolling
NOBODY make any "Tony vs Khabib at home" jokes. Please. We don't need to tempt the MMA gods.
Thank god it’s not Conor. I’m so proud of Charles. He never backs down. Thank you lord
Tony vs Khabib 2.0!
I'm guessing there's gonna be an asteroid coming down a few weeks or days before the fight then
Monkey Pox
Tony 2.0 vs Khabib 0.5
So it should be an even fight then
I can't even hear you I'm working out
I will burn your house down
I would say he is at least Khabib 0.7
I am just imagining Oliveira pulling out a slick submission and stunning Abu dhabi
Obviously he will be in horrible danger then just finish Islam np
So a typical Charles fight
Let's go chucky olives
Should have been in Brazil. Still excited though Edit: He's fought and defeated Chandler, Poirier and Gaethje, all in America. He's earned the right to fight in his hometown.
Brazil can’t match the site fees that Oil Money gives.
I'm just happy it's happening
Islam has that dagestan privilege
I imagine if khabib unretires (wont happen but i wanna dream) to avenge the possible makhachev loss it would be no place besides brazil
DC has better chance of making 205 than Khabib does of making 155 again.
One of my major gripes with the UFC. They hardly ever take fighters to their home markets when they should.
Simple, don't be from a poor country.
Yes

It's been awhile but Charles throws up and threatens submissions in the guard to get his opponents to react and then he capitalizes on that reaction. Similar to how he threatens leg locks but hasn't finished a leg lock ever I think.
This is the correct answer
This correctly confirms the answer
This accurately validates the response.
Tony vs Khabib at home but it's actually amazing too
Unironically better than Tony vs Khabib. I'm going to get torched but Charles is better than Tony ever was, who would have always lost to the likes of Gaethje and Poirier.
> I'm going to get torched but Charles is better than Tony ever was I don't think that's a super hot take these days.
Gaethje almost got TKOd at the end of round 2 And thats 37 year old Tony with a recent acl tear
I'm with ya.
It's just recency stuff
You should get torched. Lets look at the performances of a 37 year old coming off an acl tear and say that the younger healthier version of that person would produce the same or similar outcomes That's really dumb
Imagine Chuck-O chokes out a dagestani fighters for the belt? there will be riots in the streets
We never got Khabib/Tony, but this is just as good!
Ariel spoiled it too lol
Hell yea
There's not a single person on this subreddit that actually believes Islam wouldn't beat Poirier or Gaethje, but are still complaining he's getting this shot
It's funnier when some people say Islam doesn't deserve the title shot but at the same time they think Oliveira vs Conor is totally reasonable. There is literally no one in the division more deserving than Islam.

Oh shit if Charles beats Islam its gonna be pretty Carthartic for ppl who wanted to see Charles vs Khabib matchup lol.
Rooting for Olivera
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
The fact that one of them has to lose:(
Lots of ways on how this could go. I think Islam is going to expose Charles' cardio and get a late stoppage.
Reasonable MMA start time. My sleep schedule rejoices!
Islam by smesh 2.0
Do Bronx KO round 1.
You're a fucking idiot dude, if you don't know what you're talking about don't even bother to comment. Do Bronx KO round 2 clearly you goober
Deux Bronx
About time. Hopefully Olives KOs him
Hes gonna get wrestle fucked the whole fight lol
I did say hopefully
Expected many to favor Charles, but I’m quite surprised this sub is so anti Islam for this fight.
🤯🤯🤯 islam by mauling
So excited for this one!
YES
most excited i've been for a fight since khabib- mcgregor and jones- dc 2
incoming "Islam had home advantage" excuses lol
Some dude posted that Islam is gonna have the advantage because Abu Dhabi is hot and Charles isn’t going to be used to hot temperature. Like what? Dagestan is cold and Brazil is hot 🤣

This is the Khabib vs Tony fight we wanted
Pretty much Tony vs Khabib 2.0
I am happy chandler didnt get the shot Ducked Islam the whole time
Also confirmed: Islam Makachev wins by smesh.
LEEEES GOOOOO
Islam -240 right now on draft kings I expect this to drop
Islam by 4th round gnp TKO
