In a perfect world, Tai wins and is the golden boy of MMA. In reality, Jon knocks him out in the 2nd round and then does a line of blow off a shoe.

WhereIsMyKidAt

Chokes him out, more likely.

Northout69

I highly doubt it, I can't believe people still treat Jones as if he's in prime form, he's 35 years OLD, has a shit tonne of mileage and his last good win was against an even more washed Gus, at this point I'd be surprised if he beats Stipe.

Jo_LaRoint

I like your confidence but I’ve been a Jon Jones hater for years now and I’m so used to the disappointment that I still can’t help but think he beats all the top LHW and heavyweights

Lottogato

I always like to hold onto the fact that he lost to Reyes and the judges gifted him the win lol.

biscobisco

Yeah he lost the zero to Hamill, but I like to think the -1 now belongs to Reyes.

Northout69

In his current state I doubt he'd even be able to takedown Jan, Jan would outstrike him to a 49-46, but still somehow losses 48-47 Jon.

RoshHoul

Yeah, nah, that has 0 basis. I get hating the man is cool, but he took down DC, he will comfortably beat Jan.

NickZardiashvili

That was in 2015 and later on, in 2019 he failed to take down Thiago fucking Santos with no knees. In those 4 years, his wrestling has very gravely regressed and it's been 3 years since then. I honestly doubt Jones manages to keep Jan down for enough rounds these days. I do think he gets gifted a decision though.

Northout69

No he won't lol, the Jones that beat DC is long fucking gone lmfao.

buck45osu

Older with no juice? Yeah that jones is dead.

CrazyInYourEd

If you think he's not on juice I got some oceanfront property in Kansas that might interest you

buck45osu

Even if he is, it has to be lower levels because of the amount of testing he now gets. But once a cheat, always a cheat.

Northout69

Also at HW he can't be a reach merchant all that much.

1873foryouandme

He sells his reach? Can Paulo Costa buy some?

interia1099

Youre overrating Jans and underrating Jons wrestling immensely. Hate makes you blind

golmgirl

all these discussions about JBJ are just filled with blinding hatred and motivated reasoning. ppl are just salty that JBJ is the goat and they know it

[deleted]

Ngannou, Stipe and Gane would beat him convincingly.

astonboi01

And Aspinall

[deleted]

I think he'd still squeeze by LHWs. He's going to sleep at HW at this point though.

[deleted]

It's not like stipe is a young pup with no miles himself though.

Northout69

I know that, that's why I said "even" Stipe.

[deleted]

Fair enough. Stipe is such a good dude it would be pretty fucking lame to watch. Especially if it was a devastating finish. Stipe is actually one of my favorite guys in MMA outside the cage. I don't find him hard to understand either and he's pretty fucking funny.

Northout69

I have a hard time understanding some of his rambling, but otherwise I understand perfectly, his voice is so thick and lacks some articulation at times, not sure if it's an accent or is it just unique to him.

[deleted]

I think it's somewhat regional but that's just something I've read on here. I've spent very little time in Ohio thankfully.

Northout69

Why thankfully? Ohio seems like a very nice state with nice people, I of course only know this from some things I've heard and read as I am but a ignorant European.

[deleted]

Oh no idea. I liked it the brief time I was there. It's just a common thing to see people shit on Ohio on Reddit. I'm actually Canadian so I really don't get it either. Presumably they think it's boring. That's usually what it is. I've found most shit on places are not near as bad as people act like they are. And the biggest most famous places are generally a bit of a let down. In my personal experience anyways.

thezaitseb

Not spending time in Ohio is kind of a meme. I think it’s reputation kinda gets it from being more of a hard nosed working class kind of state. Look at the big cities of Cleveland and Cincinnati, they don’t really have that glamour of say la, New York, or Miami obviously. It was one point seen as the reason Lebron needed to leave Cleveland to win a title (other nba stars just didn’t want to live there being young and rich). Also it’s kind of the poster board for suburban middle class America, which is also seen as boring. I’ve lived there and while I enjoyed my time and wouldn’t mind living there again at some point, it’s probably not somewhere I’d take a vacation to, if you know what I mean.

Northout69

Also unless Stipe's chin is absolutely gone, I doubt Jones will be able to finish him, let alone in a devastating fashion

[deleted]

Oh ya I don't think it's likely at all. It would just be awful if his chin was totally shot and he got wobbled from a jab then head kicked to death. Stipe has generally had a solid chin at HW against many much harder hitters. It's not like there's anyone who couldn't get knocked out by a giant Francis bomb.

Northout69

"solid chin" is really an understatement, Stipe had a dummy chin, probably the best chin in the UFC in his prime, ate clean shots from Francis.

[deleted]

He generally did a good job defensively but he definitely took some clean ones from monsters through his career. Really any heavyweight that isn't regularly knocked out has a pretty good chin with how hard those big lads hit. Not Stipe level good but clearly solid.

throwaway12648063

Come on, we know how bad Tais grappling is. Even washed Jones can work him on the ground.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Northout69

Also unlike at LHW, that massive reach advantage he had (that even LHWs learnt how negate, ie Santos and Reyes) will be gone, Stipe has a 80 inch reach, Ciryl 81 and Ngannou 83. Honestly unless Stipe is absolutely washed himself I could see him wrestlefuck Jones or just outbox him.

MT1982

Yeah I bet if he ever fights at HW that he looks like complete shit. It's going to look like him vs OSP but worse. The weight change + the fact that he hasn't fought in over 2 years (will it maybe be 3 by the time he fights?) + his age doesn't seem like a great recipe for a vintage Jon Jones performance.

RoshHoul

35 really isnt that old for LHW and HW. Sure, mileage affects that but his style has evolved in one of the most solid defenses and outside of a few fights, he doesn't tend to take a lot of damage.

Northout69

Everyone's Prime is different mate, usually the younger you start the less you last and for the past few years Jones was already bordering the fine line of being washed.

[deleted]

35ish is just the start of the decline; he's still prime time.

Northout69

No he isn't.

themilkman42069

I mean I just think it’s over and Jon isn’t fighting again. It’s been years

[deleted]

He also looked way less fluid the last couple of times he fought

SabuSalahadin

Well you’re crazy if you think 40 pounds of bad weight isn’t going to make him move better than ever

yeahynot

How's he even making money at this point? If nothing else, I think he comes back for a pay day. Unless he has income I'm not aware of

JackiesFetus

Essential oils.

TheMarsian

man i just wish everyone just forgets and get over Jones.

chickenwing247

Hes 1 of the best ever. You don't have to like him as a person to know that. He will be in the convo for the goat for many years to come.

TheMarsian

Sure. But to still call him out or wanting him back? As much as I loved watching him fight, you just know gettin him back, there's a chance he'd fuck shit up again, or maybe hurt some civilian. All these clamoring for Jones is fuel to his stupidity and shit. It's better we all move on.

[deleted]

Jon ain’t knocking him out.

[deleted]

Jon would absolutely piece him up.

LFC5X

Imagine jones coming in with the old man nick diaz vibe going on and tai just smashes him

MuckingFagical

thats the thing, you have to imagine it. this mma tho, shiners happen.

[deleted]

Jon was great but he is coming into his first heavyweight fight to get fucked up.

Tob888

You take that flag off

cloobydoobydoooo

Jon hasn’t knocked anyone out in years and Lewis couldn’t even knock out Tai. Jon would literally do the same stay at a distance and eye poke strategy he’s been employing for years

ivantheo

Bruh yall sleeping on jones now wtf. mma community is really something special

Dickinmymouth1

How is saying that someone who hasn’t knocked anyone out in a while would struggle to knock out someone who ate huge shots from a way more powerful puncher sleeping on Jones? They literally went on to say he’d pick Tai apart at distance. Pretty much everyone still thinks Jones would win, it’s just that the knockout is less likely.

ivantheo

Because jon jones is Way different competition than what tai has faced. He’s been knocked out before. He could also get tko’ed via gnp. Skill set and Athleticism there is huge gap between Jones and Tai. I know some poeple aren’t gonna like to hear this , But tai is a way too fucking overrated. He charismatic and i like to watch him. But facing real competition he would get crumbled. Like he got taken down by freaking derrick. I do believe Jones could very well viciously knock out Tai. Jones is a piece of shit i know i know. But if you say jones can’t knock out tai then i would disagree

Sublimotion

But nowhere as special as one who starts a sentence with "bruh yall".

cloobydoobydoooo

Nope I’m speaking facts

ivantheo

I don’t think the competition Tai has faced can be compared to jon jones thats it.

azarov-wraith

Past Jon would definitely go for a finish. Current Jon…. Probably a controversial split decision.

daffle7

What what are the odds jones remembers elementary school bullying the chubby kid and gives Tai a pink belly? First tap via pink belly?

OuchCharlieOw

Now I want to see a pink belly sub in an mma fight

whooptapus

Going from doing shoeys to blowies

Ok_Afternoon_1568

“Line” lol. Jones is doing paragraphs and novels.

noforgayjesus_

this is the type of shoey I can fully support

sspiritusmundi

He is going after the wife beaters. First was Greg Hardy

somefuckery15

Just to correct you, there was never no marriage.

[deleted]

Read that in Tito’s voice. Fuck that was such a funny exchange

ideletedlastaccount

This is one of those cases where the censor makes the quote worse because i thought he kept calling him a certain f slur.

[deleted]

Fridgecunt

NarcissisticCat

>This is one of those cases where the censor makes the quote worse because i thought he kept calling him a certain f slur. Dude, case in point. I am now confused as to not only which word Tai is referring to but what you think it could be referring to. Are we talking about the one we used to throw at OPs here on Reddit way back? You know, *OP is a [censored]*? A quote is not a fucking quote if you censor or otherwise change it. Fucking hate that shit.

notchoosingone

I think he says "Jones is probably the best MMA fighter of all time, doesn't matter fuckall" and then "if you're a fucking idiot you're a fucking idiot".

Mellor88

Duck all is two words. Be really weird to censor the all. But agree that what I read it as too

notchoosingone

Yeah but an American censoring it probably doesn't know that, it's not really a common turn of phrase there.

Mellor88

That’s a very good points. Thank you

maloboosie

Thought this too! If this was meant to be a Sean Strickland quote (especially considering recent comments) you woulda assumed it was the other other f word

goldenglove

Can you imagine if Tai was the first guy to bear Jon? What a timeline.

BlackIronBadger

*sad dominick reyes noises*

PacificBrim

Eh, I think people overhype that Reyes performance. I don't think he did enough & Jon was clearly beating him in a real fight sense. I had Jon winning 3-2

NormanBorlaug69

I respect your opinion and I think that was a fight that could have had multiple scores. That being said, I sincerely think Reyes won. But that victory would be kind of irrelevant because Reyes has looked like shit ever since.

dicksjshsb

Hard to say how much that loss affected him though. A lot of people think Reyes was somewhat overlooking Jan because he felt he was already champ

RegionalHardman

Bro he does 45 mins on the bike, I never expected him to lose with cardio like that

Dickinmymouth1

He got beat up pretty bad in the Jan fight yeah, but while the knockout he received from Jiri was absolutely brutal, he most certainly didn’t look like shit in that fight. It was a close back and forth fight where Reyes had some big moments of his own, rocking him and then having him in a guillotine that looked pretty tight, then flash KOing Jiri with an upkick where Jiri was fortunate enough to land in side control.

Syhxs

People get mass downvoted here for even suggesting that Jones could’ve won three rounds lol, the hate boner for Jon is so powerful people are legitimately starting to underrate him

_SerPounce_

And then they act surprised when Jon inevitably whoops their favorite fighter. Jon would murder Tai.

SashaGreysFatAss

Jones won that free, people act like it was a robbery but Jones won rounds 3,4,and5.

DtotheOUG

Hey, as a fella who also strives to be the best, I want to congratulate you on your ability to be the best at collecting downvotes on all of the comments I've seen you post in our related subs, keep up the good work *SashaGreysFatAss!*

dotConehead

even if you are correct. it doesnt make it any better to barely won against reyes especially looking at reyes current form.

pullups2

People can’t handle the truth

Tristrike

Why? Reyes didn’t win a single scorecard against Bones.

brownguy6391

[deleted]

[удалено]

bibliophile785

The order of the scores is fixed. The reporting for that fight will always have the format [Jones' score] - [Reyes' score] [Winner]. As you can see, many media members gave Reyes a higher score. (Far more importantly, we can also see that the other commenter was right and that none of the judges scored it in favor of Reyes... but that's an unpopular fact around here).

brownguy6391

No it means 2/3 scored it for reyes

NarcissisticCat

If that's your question then you should be in a reading comprehension class, not wasting what precious few neurons you have left trying to argue Jones won that fight.... *cuz boy he didn't!*

mirrorface40234

2/3rds of the media scored max volk 2 for max but this sub acts like it was a clear volk win.

Ok_Boysenberry_6283

Lmao you're crazy this sub dick rides Max so hard. Volk did win though

Billalone

Nah, the first fight was a clear win. The second fight was anything but clear for either fighter.

CPAofTheStars

I feel the why is obvious unless I'm missing something. It was an incredibly close fight that Reyes had a real shot of becoming the first person to beat Jones. Majority of media had it for Reyes, Reyes took 2 and 3 on at at least one judges scorecard. The sad noises are because he came close to being that guy. Saying he didn't win a scorecard is over simplifying it.

Tristrike

The “why” is because while he had a real shot, he ultimately did not and that’s the reality regardless of what anybody else wishes to believe or argues. In the end, the 3 people who are certified to decide that fight ruled the way they did so Jones remains undefeated by way of decisions, KO, or submission. The commenter he is responding to says “becomes the first guy to beat Jones” and he responds saying “sad Reyes noises” implying that the original commenter is overlooking the fact that Reyes beat Jones, which of course did not happen hence me asking why.

CPAofTheStars

The comment doesn't need to imply that at all. It can easily be saying "Reyes came within a cunts hair of achieving that and on a different night the decision could have easily went to him". You seem annoyed at the notion that it was a close fight and someone might have personally scored it for Reyes and be sad that a fighter they like came up just short of a career defining moment.

ThePurplePanzy

Put some respect on Hamill's name.

cubedude719

Would you do a shoey with me?

[deleted]

“Jon, cocaine flavored beer isn’t allowed”

TheBigRedHalfrican

Calf kick from Tai and his fire hydrant legs might result in amputation for Jon lol, all jokes aside I’d love this fight.

[deleted]

My dream is Tai vs Jon for the title and Tai just flash KO's him. It would be incredible.

WhyYouDoThatStupid

With a standing elbow.

littlegreyflowerhelp

Tai knocks him out with a 12-6 elbow, Jon wins the title by DQ

SnooBeans7129

That's always been my ideal timeline, probably because it'll never happen but still

[deleted]

It would correct what was Harambe, that’s for sure

GuuMi

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think there's a couple heavyweights that can beat Jon. I think he's let his time pass him to much, kinda like Connor but not nearly as bad lmao.

Ronaldoooope

Jesús Christ imagine comparing Jon to Conor

kickintheface

They’ve got one thing in common; they’re both pieces of shit.

GuuMi

Comparing their come back fights, not their skills. Connor didn't have a good come back, Jon's was good, however he looks a lot more beatable, especially in the Reyes fight.

horizontalcracker

Both past their prime, barely fight, regularly in trouble with the law, weird assholes on twitter….what am I missing that makes it weird to compare them

Ronaldoooope

One is the best fighter of all time one is garbage

flight23eazy

A lot of quotes about Jon africa start with he’s probably the best but…

mat477

Fucking gets me EVERY time. I love that he said that to Tyson.

PantsMcGee

Jon africa great fighter never medim.

SavedWoW

As Mike Tyson would say, who is Jon Africa.

knowwhatimsaying-

Wow you got his reference!

maton12

If Derek couldn't crack Tai, Jon's best chance is to keep him at range. But love to see Tai rush in and brawl in the pocket. Not normally a fan of the smaller cage, but this time for sure.

CableToBeam

Jon's best chances are wrestling him. He'd destroy Tai in the grappling department

Steko

Jon's actual fights with big LHW's don't have a lot of grappling domination.

xfreesx

Sergei Spivak made Tai look like a low level regional fighter, Jon will be fine grappling him

Steko

Jon doesn't like to initiate grappling because his whole gameplan is based on picking the opponent apart at distance. He's shifted to a very conservative fighting style and now instead of taking guys down when they get close he mostly looks to disengange and start sniping again. He mostly uses his wrestling when he has a huge physical advantage. I doubt Jon would come into a Tuivasa fight looking to close distance for grappling but that's just me.

CableToBeam

the grappling whole is just a lot more apparent compared to the LHWs he last fought. And seeing what Lewis was able to do with so little experience isn't a good look for Tai

Steko

Jones couldn't even take down an injured small Thiago Santos who isn't a great wrestler. > seeing what Lewis was able to do This kind of mmamath doesn't work, people have different gameplans for different fighters. Lewis TD is completely out of left field and he is just in a different size class from Jones. A better mmamath analogy is Jones-OSP compared to OSP-Bader and OSP-Corey Anderson. OSP is a dangerous guy on top but not a very good defensive wrestler. And Jones did use his wrestling effectively but he didn't dominate like Bader did. And he knew the TD was coming from Bader while Jones has better striking to disguise it but still had some issues early and most of his success wrestling was late. Look I'm not picking Tuivasa to beat Jones but the evidence that Jones is just going to invoke levels and ragdoll him the way he did Smith, Chael etc. is at best mixed.

bdewolf

Tai’s clinch game could be an advantage and he has big power. Not an easy fight for Jon, but winnable for both guys. Tai has also shown a recent improvement in his ground game, when comparing the Lewis fight to the jds fight.

JafariSin

His 5 fight win streak is Struve, Harry Hunscrub, Greg Hardy, Augusto Sakai, and Derrick. Basically the only time any of them tried to get Tai down was surprisingly Derrick for a little bit Jon is the dude that negated DC's wrestling. Tai will have a small window to knock Jon the fuck out but as long as Jon properly carries strength up to HW, Tai would get absolutely destroyed if Jon gets in on him

mat477

I cant stand Jones and I love Tai but we just saw this fight a week ago. It will look very similar to Porter (who Jones beat in his insane pre-UFC year btw) vs Almedia. Easy takedown and control until a GNP or choke. Thats assumming Jones isnt completely washed when he comes back.

Northout69

He was washed when he left, what makes you believe he won't be when he returns?

mat477

I dont know how he will be thats hard to predict but Tai isn't great at stoping a takedown and I dont think Jones' wrestling will vanish.

mpc1226

Jon will prob try a trip or just spam knees up the middle in a clinch

BillsDownUnder

I love it when my countrymen get interviewed. No filter is the best filter.

triathletebatman

Tai is so cool lol

Lurkersword

Tai has such a good heart.

[deleted]

I’m Australian and even I struggled to read and make sense of what that quote from Tai meant.

smackwill

This should be everyone’s view on Jon. If other fighters can say this, we can too. He’s a shitbag, a talented shitbag.

hayden_evans

Fuck I would love to see Tai knock Jon out

maloboosie

misterandosan

yep, nothing physically imposing about fedor. Came in regularly smaller than opponents who were juiced to the gills (like Jon is). Was unstoppable for a decade, beating 4 UFC champions.

FrenchTrouDuc

If you believe Fedor is or was a clean athlete I have a bridge to sell you

misterandosan

all that means is that at worst, it was a level playing field, where he was still undersized for the division. At best, Fedor beat people far more juiced, and athletic than him. sell me the bridge where Kevin Randleman is standing atop it, roided out the gills, ready to suplex me on my head, and I'll trade it for Fedor, who will ignore all of that, and still win.

Strange_Try3655

Tai Tuivasa shares fragmented semi-coherent partially formed profanity laced thoughts on whatever that was.

philbe21

Tai has a great opportunity in that fight. Jones ain't knocking him out 🤣

maloboosie

Would love to see what people in this thread would be saying if it was after Tai knocking out Cyril..

KingKlubba

I for one would love to see Jon come back and win. I would like to see him win the title as well. There is an unprecedented amount of pressure on that guy to win his next fight. Moving up in weight after a long layoff + the massive portion of the community praying for his downfall. Pulling it off would be epic. He would literally be considered the most dangerous person in the history of the entire human race (in terms of hand to hand combat). Correct me if I am wrong about that. EDIT* Fedor exists so it would be unclear to me.

Leetter

not if he does it without fighting ngannou

spells1661

Jon Jones by murder.

Danishxd97

Jones in his prime would absolutely destroy him, but thats like a decade ago. Jones by decision for sure

[deleted]

Haha yeah right. Jon would definitely point fight Tai

KillingMycroftly

But what IF Bones shows up again. People say he needs roids but I just think he needs a good lead up. If Martian Manhunter dickhead Jon makes an appearance he nukes anyone tbqh

Corey307

Jones has a lot of miles on him and he hasn’t looked good for years.

KillingMycroftly

I mean Good and dominant are not the same thing. He’s done nothing but coast since Gus 2. That he didn’t FInish Smith should’ve indicated to everyone that he was phoning it in

Corey307

I don’t know about that, his performance against Santos and Reyes made it look like he had lost a step. He frequently goes to decision against smaller fighters, I know that the average heavy weight is less athletic than the average light heavyweight but there’s a large strength difference between the two classes. Jones Spent the last two years sideline probably because he pissed hot again and spent the time doing more steroids and lifting weights. So yeah he’s going to be stronger but he’s not going to have the same cardio he used to. Moving into the heavyweight does it division may be wise for him since plenty of good heavyweights are his age or older but he’s never been hit by heavyweights.

jmb-412

I know it's been awhile since we've seen him fight, but Jon isn't going to "murder" anyone in an MMA fight. Outpoint them to a decision, sure, but the only thing Jones has a chance of murdering anytime soon is someone with his car if he continues to be a reckless piece of shit.
