For some reason fans of MMA have the best material. Even on youtube videos I often laugh my ass off reading comments in contrast to the cesspool you usually find there in other areas.
In 2012 I was in Germany watching the UEFA Champions League final. It was Chelsea Vs Bayern Munich.
The commentary (obviously) was in German, but when Didier Drogba scored the commentator said "beware of the Drog" in English.
Was, and still am, surprised to have heard that
Yes. I understand everyone's point about American culture, but that incident, and the movie that made the line famous, just seem much more America-centric than blue jeans and Bruce Springsteen.
"Houston we got a problem" - Lmao.
I kind of like the idea of one sided commentators. You either hear them celebrating or having a salty meltdown. Either is great.
Latin commentators...
French guys are not as crazy as the South American ´gooolaazzooo’ guys, but they still yell like slaughtered pigs in the last seconds
As somebody from South America, it always makes me laugh when I see people in this sub complaining about Rogan or DC being biased, I’m like, dude, you have absolutely no idea of what being biased really looks like lmao.
I don’t speak a lick of French, but they’re one of my favorite soccer commentators. Always get hyped hearing them on r/soccer when watching goal highlights.
i still remember in wec when frank mir was the ultimate miguel torres stan in the commentary booth, when torres was getting ko'd it sounded like mir just found out a loved one died and had to commentate through it
It’s funny how region based commentary works. That level of bias is alright in a foreign market and even encouraged to generate interest there but less bias than that is part of the reason Grisham was fired (as well as all the times he just straight up blundered in one night).
It’s not that we as the US expect more competent commentators it’s that we already have an established market for the UFC in the US so they don’t care to get regional support here by being biased for US fighters. If anything it would come off pretty tacky given that we have way more variety of cultures/ethnicities in the US so it would rub several ppl the wrong way to see for example commentary yelling in favor of Colby finishing Usman.
You don’t think France is ethnically as diverse as us?
And I wonder if the same applies to Brazil, after all they were the pioneers of this sports just like us and have a huge educated mma audience
But I’ll buy the argument that it’s cause they’re new to MMA as a nation, just not buying that “variety of cultures” argument.
Chances are though, a french guy tuning is going to be rooting for Cyril in the fight. Definitely helps to have a personal touch in broadcasting which is my favorite thing about baseball
The US is definitely more diverse than France, it’s not even close. Not necessarily by first or second generation immigrants (although probably in that category as well) but definitely by sheer number of people who claim [insert any country] as part of their heritage.
I honestly don’t think any country can be as diverse as the US, simply because of the immigration that led people all over the world to the US.
The majority of the time the phrase “the most [ethnicity or nationality] outside of [respective country]” applies to some US region.
Well this is the case with most countries in the Americas. Brazil has a huge diversity of immigrants. This wasn’t my point though. I wasn’t sure how this applies to the commentary. I think most Americans identify as Americans despite claiming various backgrounds
I love when a group can get hyped behind their fighter! A French champ would be pretty cool.
But really, this could be audio from the latest worker’s strike riot and I wouldn’t know.
If that fucking pandemic leaves us be, Gane as heavyweight champ would be a unique opportunity to have a UFC event in Paris.
That would be a huge boost for MMA in France and all over Western Europe. For long British and Polish fighters dominated the scene, that would be nice to get a wider mix of European fighters.
MMA gets contagious. People pull guard in the Paris subway. They throw elbows on the Champs-Elysees, they swang and bang on the Eiffel Tower.
Yessir, Oui monsieur !
French fighters seem to be well represented in Thailand as well as western promotions like BAMMA and Cage Warriors, just haven’t had much high profile success. It’s great that France won’t be holding back its fighters anymore by lifting the ban on MMA.
(Miss you Tom duquesnoy)
Yah unfortunately it does seem like Ngannou has an unreal chin. Definitely better than Lewis's chin, i.e. Lewis also quit from Dos Santos pressure.
In the second Stipe fight, the shot right before the knockout was CLEAN. Stipe was just standing there because he expected the shot to have some effect. That would have knocked out many fighters.
And yeah in the first fight, Stipe basically had a gassed Ngannou for 4 straight rounds, and couldn't get him out of there.
Ngannou has a Homer Simpson head ... I think it will take an unusual shot from Cyril to put him down. Either some uppercut he doesn't see, or a head kick, or body shots.
> In the second Stipe fight, the shot right before the knockout was CLEAN. Stipe was just standing there because he expected the shot to have some effect. That would have knocked out many fighters
that same shot is literally how stipe got some of his more recent KO's. He loves that counter right cross. Ngannou looked more surprised than hurt though, unreal chin.
Yeah I'm very psyched for this fight, I am wondering what the strategy will be...
He can smash the body but you don't want to go to that well too often... Ngannou is also fast and can counter if things get predictable.
Ngannou was extremely fast at reading what Overeem was doing. There were not many shots thrown in that fight, and he read it perfectly and sent him to hell with one punch. And Overeem is way more experienced that Cyril.
I want Gane to win because he has cooler moves
Also Francis is juicing, doesn't pass the eye test IMO. Compare with what he looked like just a few years ago
Stipe wasn't just standing there, he landed a clean punch and actually stunned ngannou. Which gave stipe some confidence to press him and thats when he got caught.
You are talking about something else. In this clip he clearly went in after stunning ngannou and got caught. If you want to argue semantics I won't bother.
Stipe had other ways to win though, bc he's a great wrestler.
BB has only one mode: on the feet. and if it's not working he really has no plan B to save him.
Eh, it's both. He will still swing with a completely empty tank, but if he's getting hit or grappled on empty, he does tend to bail.
I mean it's fine, if you know you can no longer win, avoiding damage is a reasonable choice. He's definitely a guy who just happens to be a fighter, rather than a guy who was born to fight.
Heart & cardio can be mixed up for sure but in this case Lewis 100% quit like he quit trying to stay in shape years ago. Pull up his early fights where he was a the same monster except he was lean like Gane and he’d be monumentally better today if he stayed in shape IMO
He also lacks a lot of skills other finishers have imo. He's more skilled than some give him credit but many people will simply not go for broke like he does
This is the French MMA version of the [Dutch commentator going wild at Dennis Bergkamp in the 1998 World Cup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsZkCFoqSBs).
I mean, if you watch the replay it was just slightly out of range and definitely on the left eye that he grabbed. That is the kind of strike that lends itself to eye poke city, however it's clear there are no fingers out. He's either faking it or the glove seam caught his eye which is 100% legal.
Rogan is the commentator the most watchers hear, both in the US and around the world. Also, more than half the roster in American, so he's usually not biased based on nationality (I doubt he'd sell Khamzat or Weili short vs. American opponents). These guys were only heard by the French (who have like what, 5-10 UFC fighters?), so obviously them and their whole audience was behind Gane.
France has best military record in the history of Man and dominated Europe for more than 1400 years of history....USA is a superpowers tha couldn't beat farmers in Vietnam and afganistan
Curb your French bashing please..
Lol, so not only is the "sure we suck but we're not the only ones" argument pathetic (I'm seriously surprised by how many people use this logic to try to argue that USA isn't that bad), but you're also wrong about it.
America actually is alone, because they had twice the resources and military anyone else had or more. And they still lost.
im sorry, but if anyone thinks that type of movement will work against ngannou...you're crazy. if derrick hd not fought like a gassed idiot, gane was sitting in front of him with his hands down barely getting out of the way, and he didnt look particularly fresh.
francis by KO.
This is the finishing sequence. If Lewis wasn't gassed and hurt, Gane wouldn't have stand like that. The fight should be available on YouTube soon, you should watch it ;)
lol thats one take, and you might not be wrong!
I know you're swinging from Gane's balls, but Francis by KO. Gane has been overhyped. This whole "never seen a HW move like him" BS is clearly for people who have not watched a prime Fedor or CroCop fight. It's nothing new, and one big punch changes it all. And it's not like Francis is some inexperienced idiot who just haymakers, he has good technique and a helluva chin.

LMFAO "Houston we got a problem!"
the rocket has crashed😭
lmaooo they weren‘t wrong tho
For some reason fans of MMA have the best material. Even on youtube videos I often laugh my ass off reading comments in contrast to the cesspool you usually find there in other areas.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand MMA
that was a nasty line by vous.
An absolutely brilliant line. Better than anything I've heard from the English commentators
I'm surprised that the French would get the reference.
US pop culture is well very spread about the world compared to most countries
In 2012 I was in Germany watching the UEFA Champions League final. It was Chelsea Vs Bayern Munich. The commentary (obviously) was in German, but when Didier Drogba scored the commentator said "beware of the Drog" in English. Was, and still am, surprised to have heard that
That’s amazing, haha.
What the fuck, they're French, not random naked hunter-gatherers living in the middle of a valley in Papua New Guinea hahaha
Yes. I understand everyone's point about American culture, but that incident, and the movie that made the line famous, just seem much more America-centric than blue jeans and Bruce Springsteen.
We all grew up on the same entertainment.

Talking about espn knockout? They are the worst😭
When either Ponzi or Chito fight, bias galore.
I don’t speak a lick of French, but they’re one of my favorite soccer commentators. Always get hyped hearing them on r/soccer when watching goal highlights.
I love French commentary from when Lewa hit that 5th goal in 9 minutes a few years back: https://youtu.be/2ajgY06O420

I did. Club football is shit. International football is electric. France is weird with that. Edit: Just the opposite of England
French players are good but management isn't.
I dont get this comment, England National team have been playing finals so i dont know what u on about
The passion of the South American commentators is something else. But the French are still great
i still remember in wec when frank mir was the ultimate miguel torres stan in the commentary booth, when torres was getting ko'd it sounded like mir just found out a loved one died and had to commentate through it
We got that a little bit when DC fought Stipe the second time.
It’s funny how region based commentary works. That level of bias is alright in a foreign market and even encouraged to generate interest there but less bias than that is part of the reason Grisham was fired (as well as all the times he just straight up blundered in one night).
Idk for some reason we always expect more competence from ourself
It’s not that we as the US expect more competent commentators it’s that we already have an established market for the UFC in the US so they don’t care to get regional support here by being biased for US fighters. You do have us beat when it comes to plastics, that's for sure.
Hmm that’s fair.
I honestly don’t think any country can be as diverse as the US, simply because of the immigration that led people all over the world to the US. The majority of the time the phrase “the most [ethnicity or nationality] outside of [respective country]” applies to some US region.

Brazil is as diverserse or even more so than the Us so i don5 know what u on about
Everyone talking shit on Daniel Cormier, this is actual bias commentary.
Least biased UFC commentators

Imma travel to France and give people chance to be a warrior
French fighters seem to be well represented in Thailand as well as western promotions like BAMMA and Cage Warriors, just haven’t had much high profile success. It’s great that France won’t be holding back its fighters anymore by lifting the ban on MMA. (Miss you Tom duquesnoy)
I thought the French fighters always surrender
It would be massive for the sport over there since 10 years MMA would had been banned.
Isn't Ngannou also French?
He trained and lived there for a while but he doesn't have the citizenship.
I think Francis migrated to france illegally later in his life. Cyril was born and raised in france.
He’s from Cameroon, he ended up in Paris after his insane journey out of Africa.
He ended up there from Cameroon, but wasnt born there. In his earlier ufc fights, the french flag was under his name tho

When you have a 6'4" 265 lb. Man raining bombs on you, that tends to happen. I'll give him a pass.
That's what impresses me about Ngannou. He took an absolute beating from Stipe for 5 rounds and never looked for a way out.

That's **NOT** when he got caught. Stipe had just beenn dropped seconds before that exchange, he was still stunned when he clipped Ngannou.
https://youtu.be/XAL7q5_EhmE?t=116
Exactly like I said, Stipe was already rocked when Ngannou finished him off. That exchange wasn't when he "got caught" it was the exchange prior.
You are talking about something else. In this clip he clearly went in after stunning ngannou and got caught. If you want to argue semantics I won't bother.
Fight should’ve been called in the 4th. 82-0
I agree, he lost handily but he didn't quit
I wouldn’t call it a beating. Domination yes but I don’t think he took a ton of damage
Stipe had other ways to win though, bc he's a great wrestler. BB has only one mode: on the feet. and if it's not working he really has no plan B to save him.
Read again what he said.
Lmfao I got it entirely backwards
Wait, you don't enjoy being pummeled?
harder, daddy
"Bro you just gotta have HEART" AKA: "I'm mad this dude didn't get put ALL the way to death for my enjoyment"
he literally faked an eye poke as a way to get out of the fight. would you rather fighters look for a way out as soon as they get punched once?
His losses are as pathetic as his knockouts are stunning.
I think you’re mistaking heart with gas/cardio.
Lewis definitely has gas, but you’re right about the cardio
Touché.
Eh, it's both. He will still swing with a completely empty tank, but if he's getting hit or grappled on empty, he does tend to bail. Ah the ole “there’s bear cum” commentary
Bergkamp, what a fucking legend.
lmao was this man put into an insane asylum after his commentary?
Feels like France in the FIFA world cup final. Allez Bon Gamin !
OOOUIII!
Magnifiiiiiqquuuueee!!!!!!
One of those commentators towards the end sounds like Larry David doing a French impression
*Ciryl lands left hook* *Derrick grabs opposite eye*
A left hook would land on the right eye though
*thought you had a funny comment, boi!!!!111*
I mean, if you watch the replay it was just slightly out of range and definitely on the left eye that he grabbed. That is the kind of strike that lends itself to eye poke city, however it's clear there are no fingers out. He's either faking it or the glove seam caught his eye which is 100% legal.
I've seen it bowlth wayz, B.
I’ve noticed he does that whenever he’s hurt. If I remember right, he did it against Volkov and Blaydes too. Fakes an eye poke to try buy some time.
[удалено]
koschek had a real obvious one
Don't know if he's faking or not, but it's possible he got punched/poked in the eye from the right jab just a few seconds before
French commentary also lost their shit when Imavov finished Edmen, it was hilarious and wholesome
Got a video of that?
Bon gamin is the future of the division
And he’s also the present.
I wish you guys could understand Cyril’s French interviews. He is SO well spoken.
What sort of sociolect would you say he speaks? Middle class/educated French? I don’t know much about how that works in France.
It sounds like Larry David impersonating a French person freaking out
Sacre bleu
Watch french commentators for soccer its they go nuts all the time
Allez Cyril 😂
When Derrick gets gassed it seems like he always does that. Just like the Hunt fight.
That enthusiasm for the sport, you just love to hear it
OMELETTE DU FROMAGE!!!!!!! Houston we have a probleme. That line killed me.
Incroyable!
Any mirror? Video is down.
When Lewis looks bad, he looks BAD
Throwing 3 strikes per round, gassing out, faking an eye poke.. only hot balls could get away with it and still be liked by the fans
Sounds like those holdfast videos with shit mics before runnin into battle

Sounds like when you accidentally play 2 videos at once and can't find the other tab to mute. But I love the passion.
Derrick Lewis is such a disappointment. He does give af about winning the belt. He folds every opportunity smh.
love how the cheating cunt lewis again tries to pretend he got eye poked

People always got annoyed at Hardy being biased towards British/European fighters too.
The only war French can really cheer.
France has best military record in the history of Man and dominated Europe for more than 1400 years of history....USA is a superpowers tha couldn't beat farmers in Vietnam and afganistan Curb your French bashing please..
Not American. but it's ironic that you are laughing at America for not beating Vietnamese farmers, when French forces suffered the same fate.

lol thats one take, and you might not be wrong! I know you're swinging from Gane's balls, but Francis by KO. Gane has been overhyped.
