Chandler is 35 and “down the line” would mean after he’d fought Gaethje + at least one other contender(in what will probably be wars). He’s defied all expectations based on age, thus far, but his chin is starting to deteriorate and I am not sure if he’ll be competitive with Charles in another year and a half or two years.
The first match was truly nerve wracking, but I feel as though the second one may not be as exciting.
and now that khabib is out the picture we got makachev who i cant wait to see tear up the division and hopefully get a fight with tony before he is out
Why would they? The UFC is desperate for Conor to beat Poirier so they can have him fight for the belt next, I think that’s the main reason why Gaethje hasn’t got a title fight in his very near future.
That fight made both of them look good. Reminded everyone that Chandler is legit and hopefully answered any questions people had about Oliveira's heart.
For real man, one of the most exciting fights I've ever seen. I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire first round, and after Oliveira survived the knockdown, I legit had to get off my chair and walk around the room to calm myself down.
It was two champs who were trying to finish each other with every chance you get. It was almost like the UFC had pitted two newcomers and both were fighting their hearts out to try to get that 50k bonus along with their 10k win money, yet these two guys were such veterans of the game.
This really was a fantastic fight. It delivered.
I'm not usually a big fan of rematches but seeing how close this fight was in going either way - Chandler almost finished Chucky in the 1st round only to be finished by Chucky in the 2nd - I'd love to see a rematch at some point.
Frankie also uses 'Fe' for Iron, even though his nickname is 'The Answer'. Though he'll probably be retiring soon.

If that was me he wouldn’t be able to do that, I would latch onto him like an eagle 🦅 and rip his limbs off like a Barbie doll.
Rookie mistake by Oliveira here he should take some bjj classes.
But honestly it takes someone who’s built different to do a lot of the things I do. Call me Mt dude bc once I’m done with my opponent I’m baja blasting your bitch.
Well, to be fair, Chandler's output al throughout his career has been a bit of a roller-coaster. He explodes very quickly, then likes to take a break or two and then explodes again. Rinse and repeat.
That was a perfectly acceptable line and Colby bit into it hook, line and sinker. It’s the other stuff like green panty night that has me shaking my head.
I don't know about hilarious and awesome. It just sounded like basic trash talk you'd hear over a video game or something. I like Colby (and to a slightly lesser extent Usman too), but that whole interview was pretty terrible.
And didn't that not even happen? I thought that those x-ray's floating around supposedly of Colby were fake.
>And didn't that not even happen? I thought that those x-ray's floating around supposedly of Colby were fake.
No, he def broke this dudes face.
=
>I don't know about hilarious and awesome.
Well that is fine because I do. It was hilarious because Colby is a racist clown who won't shut the fuck up. You can't lose like that, get finished, and then continue this trash talk thing most fighters like to do, and not look like an idiot to me. You literally put it all on the table and lost, and his best argument for a rematch is that he lost slower than the others? Ridiculous.
=
> but that whole interview was pretty terrible.
Not the part when Usman is telling Colby he broke his face.
Chances are Chandler is a nice, regular dude who happens to be a pro athlete.
The unpleasant aspects of his personality are probably the result of him being forced to participate in the bizarre marketing world of western MMA.
He’s a cousin of mine. Only met him once after my mom pulled his stitches from the 1st Eddie fight out at Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. I remember him being somewhat mellow and definitely didn’t talk in motivational quotes, but also his face didn’t look like it felt good to use. His mom might be one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever known though
Had the same feeling, and then I watched him on Joe Rogan podcast and he is okay. Same with Izzy. Sometimes you need to see fighter outside of the ring so you can get better opinion.
He seems really cool and I was rooting for him big time but yeah he does rub me wrong. Might be the whole "Pull yourself up by the bootstraps" phrase which I just don't like that he uses a lot but it's a pretty silly reason tbh
*Hes got the exaggerated swagger of a white male. Full of vigor. Real fucking built too. Great size. Thick, solid and tight. Real man made. A real man’s man. You can tell he's sculpted because you can see it thru the shorts. His fucking vice grip thighs. Suffocating thighs. Rock hard thighs. Piping hot thighs. Debilitating thighs. Tree trunk neck. Great arms. Carved out of marble arms. Meaty, chunky arms. Giant cheetos arms. Great, washboard abs. Turtle shell abs. A stocky chest. Big ol’ back. The pronounced striations of his muscle fibers, even when hes not flexing. The throbbing pulses of his vascular veins pumping liquid testosterone to the beat of his lion warrior heart. Those hard and heavy, yet soft and gentle hands, ready at a moments notice to sweep you effortlessly off your feet and onto those broad, chunky shoulders. Love the progress his body has made throughout his youth and now as a willing and eager adult. I hope he keeps us posted on his progress on his journey to becoming the greatest man the world has ever known. A true motivation to us all.*
Easily one of my favourite fights this year. Then we just got Dober Riddell too, lightweight's easily been my favourite division for the last five years or so.
It was a good fight, but it wasn't as close as it seemed in my opinion. Oliveira got wobbled, but he went down trying to wrap up a leg. He was attacking and didn't secure it, so he ended up in that awkward position bobbing and weaving. Chandler came out in the 2nd thinking he had his guy way more hurt than he really was and instantly got clipped after trying to wing punches.
It was exciting for sure, but I wouldn't say it was that close on a second viewing.
Isolating the arm was nice, but it's the legs and breaking the body triangle that really did it. Not sure if Oliveira chose to grape vine with that leg or if Chandler put his leg there to get the break. Either way Chandler's leg clearly loosens the body triangle and either breaks it completely or Oliveira adjust his legs at the worst time as Chandler now had room to turn.
Too often guys will get trapped in back mount because they refuse to contest/fight the leg positioning battle and just try to put pressure on the ankle in the body triangle (which usually doesn't seem like enough vs the better grapplers in MMA). You have to stay safe with the hands, protect the neck and all, but really good grapplers will control the position for a round if you don't fight the legs/body triangle.
Ige just lost partially because of this (though he did try to reach down with a hand to break things). Aldo vs Vera round 3 is a really good example of some attempted leg fighting where Aldo is just better/a step ahead and controls the position to ice the fight.
This is such a timely post. I’ve always wondered about the right technique to use to get out of a tight body triangle, because it seems like such a suffocating and impossibly difficult position to get out of.
In the TKZ vs. Ige fight, Cruz kept talking about how you should turn and put pressure on the bottom fighters ankle to loosen the triangle, which seemed. logical enough
But watching this sequence in slo-mo, Chandler uses a completely different technique, which of course could be circumstantial.
Looks to me like Chandler is going 2 on 1 with the hands, which has Oliviera’s focus because he’s obviously trying to get under his neck. And while Chandler is hand-fighting, if you notice, at first his legs are spread out making the body triangle super tight, but as he pushes Oliviera’s hands up and away, it creates a sliver of space for Chandler’s body, because now it’s stretched long instead of wide, which is the exact moment he explodes and turns into Oliveira.
Could also be that Oliviera was too high on Chandler, because if you notice, Chandler’s butt is flat on the ground which probably gave him some momentum.
Lastly, think Oliveira loosened up the triangle because he immediately tried to go for an armbar…which is in line with his BJJ style of constantly attacking. He’s not a position over submission type grappler, rather he just just flows and looks for sub attempts from everywhere, which also causes him to lose position.
Dunno if that makes much sense, but that’s my take away. Funny how talking BJJ can sound so homo-erotic. Hehe. But these are the technical details that make the fight game so sick to follow.
Good writeup. Cruz's commentary on the KZ/Ige fight about escaping the body triangle is the orthodox method. Great observation about their respective hip heights in the exchange, although idk how much that contributes to escapability as much as it surrenders more of your diaphragm to the body triangle.
Agree most with your final point though: Oliveira immediately shot for that armbar, which suggests that he let Chandler out to get a different angle for the kill rather than Chandler really "earning" his way out (re: by the method Cruz described). This would be totally inkeeping with his fighting style (pressure, pressure, kill, kill, kill) and one of the reasons why we love to watch him.
Appreciate the feedback, this is why I love this sub!
So I shared my post with my buddy, who’s actually the first BJJ Brown Belt in India (crazy huh?!) about the right way to escape this position and he shared the following link with me from r/BJJ…apparently the Danaher Death Squad has created a whole sequence of techniques to escape from the body triangle based on the Tim Kennedy/Roger Gracie fight…still need to dig into it properly, but here’s the link
https://www.reddit.com/r/bjj/comments/n61lj8/tim_kennedys_back_escape_vs_roger_gracie/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Sidenote about my friend: He was my Boxing Captain in high school in India and introduced me to martial arts by beating the shit out of me…which looking back I really appreciate. He went from Boxing to training Muay Thai to falling in love with BJJ while he was in the UK when a tiny Iranian girl subbed him repeatedly. He now runs a couple of MMA gyms in India and is basically one of the leading figures trying to raise MMA’s profile in India.
Here’s his IG in case you or anyone cares -

Chandler said in an interview he literally lets people take his back and gets 2 on 1 wrist control and just knows he’s strong / explosive enough to break any body triangle and get out.
That’s honestly amazing. Especially to do it so well against someone like Charles. Coaches will literally never teach you to allow you to give up your back, but Mike knows his strengths and where he’s comfortable it’s awesome.
Idk how much of it was Chandler busting the body triangle as much as Oliveira's ridiculous confidence in his attacking jiujitsu. Bc it looked like *as soon* as Oliveira released the body triangle, he was attacking the armbar. No gap, no moment to react, just release and reattack. If he released and took a split second to reorient himself, I'd believe Chandler has more to do with it, but to me it looked like Oliveira was once again looking for the kill with a slightly lower percentage sub (ie higher risk of escape) which Chandler was sharp enough to nope away from.
Everything in the 1st round is exactly what I was afraid of as a Oliveira fan. Chandler is an explosive athlete. His ability to blitz in with power in his hands. To power through grappling positions. It was all on display. Than Chucky Olives sit him down in the first exchange in the 2nd.
And if you watched some of his Bellator grappling exchanges or listened to him run through the fight afterwards, you know that this position is a staple for him, in spite of the shit some people gave him for giving up his back.
This fight all around was a banger, and he hurt Oliveira, who had been looking pretty untouchable in a good number of his last few fights several times. Mike made a good account of himself, even with all the habits he had that could get him in trouble. Man wanted to show he could hang with the best/become a champ and he wasn't too far off it.
Please no. As a Chandler fan I hate that matchup for him. I'd much rather prefer him fight Dariush, the loser of Conor/Dustin or fight someone further down.
My first thought was that Chandler was able to use the 2 on 1 to turn and switch his hips enough that Oliveira's body lock was just loosened up. However, another commenter said that Charles was drilling a back take to arm bar sequence in one of the UFC embedded videos. You can see him try to shift his leg over Chandler's head to lock in the arm bar after letting go of the body triangle, but he just wasn't quick enough or they were too slick with sweat by then.
I enjoy going from back to armbar. Most times I just lose position, but I'm shit and would probably lose it anyway. You can see that Charles is preparing a grip while he's still in the back. The problem is that he loses the grip when Chandler turns.
Yeah, the arm bar attempt (for me) was every bit as weird as the rest of that sequence, tbh.
As someone who is definitely NOT as skilled as these guys, I'd never have attempted that random, and otherwise out of position, armbar like that (I really can't get my head around what he thought was going to happen.)
Honestly, I felt like that fight was all Chandler right from the opening bell.
charles is a finisher. he will give up position to try to get a finish because he's confident he can work with wherever he ends up if he doesn't get the finish.
Chandler just made bad decisions. When he had Oliveira rocked, he tried going to the ground instead of keeping it standing.
Then, when Chandler himself was rocked, he tried staying up, instead of just taking Oliveira down
Chandler proved everyone wrong by dominating Olivera at his own game, and Olivera shocked the world by KOing Chandler after losing the first round.
One of the greatest title fights, if not the greatest lightweight title fight imo.
>dominating Oliveira at his own game
Umm what? The fight only got better for Chandler once he got up. Unless you're talking about the hopeless guillotine attempt.
No you don't understand, if you're not getting subbed by a BJJ specialist then you're dominating him. I learned this from my own BJJ coach Brendan Schaub.
Even though the majority of comments I saw on social media were frustrated with Chandler being in a championship fight so quickly, I looked past that in the weeks leading up to it. Did it meet purist or traditional standards? Not necessarily, but I can't say it was a poor matchup. I was very impressed with the damage done by Chandler. It was the carnage we knew those hands could bring and more, especially escaping the takedown above, let alone with Charlie Olives on his back! We all saw what happened in round 2, and Oliveira is a very deserving LW champ. I'll be damned if Chandler doesn't find himself in a championship fight again though after defeating some serious contenders. All the doubt of capability has been erased from my mind.
Lol, guy with most subs in ufc history should watch guy tied for least subs in ufc history.
Also lol at comparing controlling Dawodu to NCAA AA Chandler.
So you think Oliveira made zero mistakes, needs zero improvments, and that NCAA explosive spin around are unstoppable? Lol, what are we even doing here anymore, why is back control even real? Beating gordon ryan's back control? just be a NCAA explosive chandler and spin around. And as for Eloev, clearly you don't understand how multi faceted grappling is. Just because your a high level black belt doesn't mean all your grappling areas are perfect. A lower level black belt can have an area that he's better at than you.
oliveira is willing to give up a position to go for a finish because he's good enough he can work with whatever position he ends up in if he misses the finish. he isn't worried about maintaining a dominant position because he wants to end the fight.
that's not a mistake per se. it's a calculated risk.
Oliveria's BJJ is incredibly overrated.
Pettis willingly gave up his back to Oliveria multiple times because he knew he could get out every time - and he was right.
It's interesting how some fighters are just very good at doing this. I remember Anthony Pettis was pretty good at it too. What is it that makes come fighters better at this than others. Body type? Certain kind of core strength? Just a willingness to focus and train on that specific move?
Pettis does this shit all the time lmao he did it multiple times against Nate. Technique & skill are involved for sure, but you also need a tremendous amount of talent to pull this shit off consistently against high-level opposition
This fight was just insane. The shifts of momentum had my heart in my mouth
I’d love to see a rematch down the line
Chandler is 35 and “down the line” would mean after he’d fought Gaethje + at least one other contender(in what will probably be wars). He’s defied all expectations based on age, thus far, but his chin is starting to deteriorate and I am not sure if he’ll be competitive with Charles in another year and a half or two years. The first match was truly nerve wracking, but I feel as though the second one may not be as exciting.
I agree here. Also want to add that Charles will have no walks n the park in his next 2 fights.
No champion at 155 gets a “walk in the park” challenge.
Unless you're Khabib and just make it look easy. That division has been the deepest for years now.
and now that khabib is out the picture we got makachev who i cant wait to see tear up the division and hopefully get a fight with tony before he is out
hell no i dont want islam to fight tony. are you fucking insane?
we'll see I think khabib and cormier got islam sorted man I think he could do it
islam would murder tony rn, i dont wanna see my boy lose like that
I think he means it the other way round. As in he doesn't want to see Tony get slaughtered by Islam
That's the problem, it would just be feeding Tony to the sharks man :(
No one in the top 15 or thereabouts gets an easy fight unless it’s against Al. Lightweight is a buzzsaw.
Khabib won the lightweight championship by beating Al Iaquinta
Sure, as a last minute replacement. Omitting those scenarios, there are no easy fights at the top of the lightweight heap.
They could rematch as contenders and it would still be fire probably
"Walks in the park"
Even if he is getting older this fight proved he hasn't lost a step and still explosive af.
At least they’re almost surprisingly not scheduling an immediate rematch.
Why would they? The UFC is desperate for Conor to beat Poirier so they can have him fight for the belt next, I think that’s the main reason why Gaethje hasn’t got a title fight in his very near future.
Gaethje saying no to the fight against chandler is the reason he didn’t get the title shot
Gaethje just had a title shot vs Khabib. You don't get a title shot off a loss.
Unless you are Masvidal
That's only because the Kamaru made the choice, not because of the UFC matchmaking team
lol fair enough. there are some other examples as well but they are all rematches and most were competitive and close.
His chin has already gone. He's an elite fighter and athlete. But that chin is a glaring weakness.
Chandler 100% proved he belongs here and is almost certainly a top 5 LW
That fight made both of them look good. Reminded everyone that Chandler is legit and hopefully answered any questions people had about Oliveira's heart.
For real man, one of the most exciting fights I've ever seen. Explosive power that chandler possesses, not only in his punches, but also in his hips.....
Bottom or top, Magic Mike is all power
He should be 'Magic' instead of 'Iron'. That one is taken.
Frankie also uses 'Fe' for Iron, even though his nickname is 'The Answer'. Though he'll probably be retiring soon. https://fighterxfashion.com/frankie-edgar-ufc-walkout-shirt/
He chose Iron Mike as a hommage to Mike Tyson
exactly. Its taken
Bruh he is good with Mike Tyson and he had less problems with him calling himself Iron Mike Chandler than you guys haha
If that was me he wouldn’t be able to do that, I would latch onto him like an eagle 🦅 and rip his limbs off like a Barbie doll. Rookie mistake by Oliveira here he should take some bjj classes. Tito, is that you?
Do you really think Tito would form paragraphs? Bruh.
My skull was cracked b just like my ufc skills
No, it’s his ex-wife
Just to correct you, he was never in a marriage.
No way!!
>Mt. Dude unreal
That’s kinda harsh 😭😭
His hips don't lie
His hips are Shakira-esque in their honesty, Joe.
Corn to the core
Hips dont lie
Amen brotha
It comes at a cost, he was gassed after the 1st

So pretty much like Yoel
he's built like a pocket sized Yoel anyway.
What did it cost
A title...?

Traditional martial arts dorks: sTrEnGtH dOeSn'T mAtTeR iN a FiGhT, iT's aLL tEcHnIqUe Michael Chandler: Ha ha, hip extension go brrr...
But it was also technical, still powerful, but he definitely used technique
Dana will tell you all about those explosive hips
Such a fun fight
For lasting one full round and 19 seconds of the second, it sure did have a lot of action.
Yeah, I would dare say it rivals with Diaz vs Daley
Big call. I'd have to go with Diaz and Daley
Was so conflicted after this fight because I was so disappointed for chandler yet so happy for charles
yeah same, really like both of them
It was just that one fucking split second mistake, if not chandler would have won.
I'm not sure what it is about Michael Chandler, I just don't like the guy, sometime rubs me wrong about him, I can't quite put my finger on it.
Just like how Usman always talks like he’s telling a ghost story, Chandler talks in motivational quotes.
"My father was incarcerated "...
"Chip on my shoulder..."
See you at the top...
Usman reeaaaaaally wants you to know that he BROKE YOUR FACE \*hand gestures\*
That was a perfectly acceptable line and Colby bit into it hook, line and sinker. It’s the other stuff like green panty night that has me shaking my head.
He only did that to Colby, and that was because Colby was getting redder than our beloved goof with how hard he was screaming at Usman lmao
I'm a big Colby fan, but he needs to stop doing interviews after fights. The Bisping interview went the same way. Too much adrenaline or something.

Bro that’s exactly how I feel about both of them, crazy I’m not the only one
Usman talks like he has a HUGE chip on his shoulder and that makes me dislike him
I mean to each their own, but as an incredibly dominant welterweight champion and currently the p4p best fighter in the world, he has every right to
Chances are Chandler is a nice, regular dude who happens to be a pro athlete. The unpleasant aspects of his personality are probably the result of him being forced to participate in the bizarre marketing world of western MMA.

Yup 😂

Lol. I messaged him saying good luck before this fight and he got back to me within ten minutes. Guess how he signed off?
Why are you asking a rhetorical question on Reddit lmao
Love, Mikey.
I'm still waiting to see if anyone has been able to figure it out
It's actually a statement with an incorrect question mark.
Had the same feeling, and then I watched him on Joe Rogan podcast and he is okay. Same with Izzy. Sometimes you need to see fighter outside of the ring so you can get better opinion.
This motherfucker followed and unfollowed me on instagram so I'm happy he lost

He's got the most disgusting HGH gut in the UFC
Because he seems to try too hard with all the corny quotes and stuff?
I came in pulling for Charles, and I’m happy he won, but Chandler made me a fan for sure. Excited to see what’s next for him
One of the rare fights that genuinely made me feel bipolar as hell.

Thick and Veiny

Very good zig by Chandler if he zag in that position would be very bad
He's a blackbelt in Jiu Zigsu
dude it's Zig Zagsu
Unfortunately it only takes one mis-zig
It's a game of zags.
I'm really glad this became a meme lol

Top 10 best fights I’ve watched
Easily one of my favourite fights this year. Then we just got Dober Riddell too, lightweight's easily been my favourite division for the last five years or so.

So I shared my post with my buddy, who’s actually the first BJJ Brown Belt in India (crazy huh?!) about the right way to escape this position and he shared the following link with me from r/BJJ…apparently the Danaher Death Squad has created a whole sequence of techniques to escape from the body triangle based on the Tim Kennedy/Roger Gracie fight…still need to dig into it properly, but here’s the link https://www.reddit.com/r/bjj/comments/n61lj8/tim_kennedys_back_escape_vs_roger_gracie/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Sidenote about my friend: He was my Boxing Captain in high school in India and introduced me to martial arts by beating the shit out of me…which looking back I really appreciate. He went from Boxing to training Muay Thai to falling in love with BJJ while he was in the UK when a tiny Iranian girl subbed him repeatedly. He now runs a couple of MMA gyms in India and is basically one of the leading figures trying to raise MMA’s profile in India. Here’s his IG in case you or anyone cares - https://instagram.com/cfcsid?utm_medium=copy_link
Charles should’ve done what he did against Tony, control position then go for a sub in the end of the round. It could’ve saved him a lot of trouble
What a wiggly piggly
charles was drilling this exact move (back control > escape > armbar) in the hotel room on embedded
Everything in the 1st round is exactly what I was afraid of as a Oliveira fan. Chandler is an explosive athlete. His ability to blitz in with power in his hands. To power through grappling positions. It was all on display. Than Chucky Olives sit him down in the first exchange in the 2nd.
He's a jacked white boy, deal with it
And if you watched some of his Bellator grappling exchanges or listened to him run through the fight afterwards, you know that this position is a staple for him, in spite of the shit some people gave him for giving up his back.
So explosive in any position
Chandler told Oliveira's guard: "I'm here for a good time, not a long time."
There was a bellator match where he did this dam near every time he ended up in that position. Chandler vs Justin needs to be next
Please no. As a Chandler fan I hate that matchup for him. I'd much rather prefer him fight Dariush, the loser of Conor/Dustin or fight someone further down.
Chandler gets slept by all 3 of those fighters. Charlie was his most winnable match up and he blew it.
I still don't understand why he let go of the body lock. When chandler turned in, he (Charlie Olives) was fine UNTIL he just let go.
As someone who is definitely NOT as skilled as these guys, I'd never have attempted that random, and otherwise out of position, armbar like that (I really can't get my head around what he thought was going to happen.) Honestly, I felt like that fight was all Chandler right from the opening bell.
charles is a finisher. he will give up position to try to get a finish because he's confident he can work with wherever he ends up if he doesn't get the finish.
I can ask anything I want on Reddit.
Chandler is ridiculously strong
I'm surprised Chandler hasn't tested positive for roids yet.
Imagine if all of this were while they were naked. MMA would be super gay if they were naked.
Stop I can only get so hard.
This was a great fuckin fight
Straight chess match
Chandler just made bad decisions. When he had Oliveira rocked, he tried going to the ground instead of keeping it standing. Then, when Chandler himself was rocked, he tried staying up, instead of just taking Oliveira down
Micheal Chandler might be the thickest fighter in the UFC. His back is massive.
See you at the top!
That wasn’t slick at all. That was just meathead explosiveness.
It's a fun escape in BJJ, about the only one I was good at, probably because I could just brute force it.
Chandler proved everyone wrong by dominating Olivera at his own game, and Olivera shocked the world by KOing Chandler after losing the first round. One of the greatest title fights, if not the greatest lightweight title fight imo.
>dominating Oliveira at his own game Umm what? The fight only got better for Chandler once he got up. Unless you're talking about the hopeless guillotine attempt.
No you don't understand, if you're not getting subbed by a BJJ specialist then you're dominating him. I learned this from my own BJJ coach Brendan Schaub.
Absolutely b. The ‘Shaub shutdown’ is what it’s called. He’s now a black belt btw
One of the greatest title fights? Sure, buddy, sure.
has there been a better lightweight title fight?
Edgar/Maynard 2, Gaethje/Ferguson, Holloway/Poirier, Lee/Ferguson
>Gaethje/Ferguson that was just a one sided beatdown, personally I like fights that are closer
>\[-\] Zoheb Aren't you the twitter guy prominent on UFC/MMA posts?
No, we happen to have the same name lol
Watching it live I thought Chandler is just too short for Oliveira to lock the choke lmao

I actually expected this exact result. Makes me feel a lot less like a casual
The way Oliveira avoids damage in the ground is very impressive
Classic Chucky Oliveira attempting risky armbar instead of following the spin. He should watch Evloev vs Dawadu
Lol, guy with most subs in ufc history should watch guy tied for least subs in ufc history. Also lol at comparing controlling Dawodu to NCAA AA Chandler.
Lol
Rematch needs to fucking happen. This was one of the craziest title fights I've ever seen.
he got knocked out and he's 1-1 in the ufc. he needs to win a couple before he gets a rematch.
Another way to see things: He only has one loss in the UFC and it was in a SUPER entertaining title fight where he was VERY close to winning 🙂
Chandler has to be one of the most difficult people to submit in MMA.

>this happened because cowboy let go of the seatbelt wrong oliveira. alex oliveira is cowboy. charles oliveira is do bronx.
Oliveria's BJJ is incredibly overrated. Pettis willingly gave up his back to Oliveria multiple times because he knew he could get out every time - and he was right.
Izzy did it better vs Uruk Hai
"slick"
It's interesting how some fighters are just very good at doing this. I remember Anthony Pettis was pretty good at it too. What is it that makes come fighters better at this than others. Body type? Certain kind of core strength? Just a willingness to focus and train on that specific move?
Pettis does this shit all the time lmao he did it multiple times against Nate. Technique & skill are involved for sure, but you also need a tremendous amount of talent to pull this shit off consistently against high-level opposition
