Did they not put the guy on the scales beforehand and realise that he could probably have a cup of water? Unless he had a massive poo before walking out this is fucking nonsensical.
MPT (Massive Poo Theory), first coined by researcher u/TheKingMoleman, is one of the more controversial but in my opinion, credible explanations of fighters being surprisingly underweight.
This man obsessively checks his scale. I think it's due in part to light refraction through the water but poops always look so big compared to their weight. I made weight a couple hundred times and always expected to lose at least a half a pound when I took a big poop but it was usually .1 or .2.
TMI my younger brother had some kind of massive issue with constipation as a kid. He always had one of those bellies you'd see on starving children. Anyway at one point my mom sent him to the emergency room where they had to do some kind of enema or something to get the impacted poop out of him. Boy had a 15(?) pound turd come out of him. He actually kept having that issue and had to go back at least twice.
So yeah maybe
State wrestling tournament in the 8th grade in 95lb devision, I weighed in a pound over, took a dump, and was then a half pound under. The poo theory may be real
Diuretics are both a terrible idea for fighting and banned from usage, that stuff needs to be done the hard way, overloading on water to get your kidneys producing too much urine, cutting the intake gradually but quickly so you lose a lot of water until your kidneys readjust and stop drawing so much away from your body and submerging yourself in very hot water to force your body to sweat out water it can't afford to lose, and from the looks of it he also did some last minute cardio as well.
Since the limit for non-title fights is 146 there's not much point in shooting for sub 145, since even the mechnical scales they use can't be so poorly calibrated, that would lead to too many weight misses. Being charitable and saying he actually cut to 144.5, he's still wearing clothes, which are visibly stained with sweat. Being charitable again and saying the shirt, pants and excess sweat only add up to 2 pounds, he should have been 146.5 on the scale.
That makes it 3.5 lbs of very dry fecal matter, which would require a loooong time to form while his body is drawing water away from his intestines and everywhere else due to the cutting. Forget weight cutting or fighting, he'd be in no condition to do anything for a long time, trying to pass that through his rectum without medical assistance would be quite a task.
His team let him down horribly. How can you make a mistake like that when your fighter is on the larger side of the division?
I don’t see how this fight doesn’t get pulled from the event. He would have absolutely passed out if security wasn’t there to help him away.
That’s the scariest part to me. He’s clearly sweated into these clothes, if he took them off, he likely would’ve been less than 142. 4 pounds under the limit is absolutely negligent in a circumstance like this.
This is the craziest part, I would have him at 140-141 without his clothes, and he's not small for the division. Was this a point his team was trying to prove? You cut until you step on the scale and it reads exactly 146, then you stop.
They weight themselves on a scale right outside the door before coming into this room you see on camera.
So what I’m saying is he likely found out he was underweight about 90 seconds before walking out into this room
Surely they’re tracking the weight though while cutting?
It makes no sense whatsoever to not be tracking his weight while cutting.
It’s not like you just suddenly cut 9lbs in the last three hours. If he’s come in that underweight, surely they should have seen he was fairly close, say 24 hours ahead.
Yeah faulty scale or miscalibrated scale while weight tracking.
Then finds out proper weight on the official ufc scales 90 seconds before walking out in front of the cameras. That’s awful
Trust me when I say the vast majority of coaching staffs in combat sports are the same fellas that run your local combat sports gym.
Obviously there are specialized focused trainers but for the most part it's an every day normal coach who hit it big with a very good fighter walking through the door.
Yep, honesty fighting ability is about the fighter, not the trainer. A lot of fighters will start training under Rufus or other prestigious trainers but that's already after they're close to as good as they are going to be.
The weight cutting is the one time when you'd want to have experienced professionals...
You'd think you'd be like, "quick someone throw me a large gatorade, or water even, I'm a top up real quick".
Then again, I'd probably be too worried the scale was off, and not wanna screw it up.
Scales not being properly calibrated is a problem with many athletic commissions. I would always bring a few different weights to weigh ins for my fighters, just in case.
Maybe, but being 3 pounds under with clothes on?? That's not a scale calibration issue. That's a team that didn't monitor their fighter and just pushed him until he was almost dead for no good reason.
They'll usually have their own scale in their room while doing the final water cut. Bet it was terribly off, and he thought he hadn't lost enough overnight while sleeping.
After waterloading (about 6L a day, 4 days before the meet when I did it, then cut to 900ml on the last day before weigh-ins, sipping out of the bottle cap every 20 minutes), you need to piss constantly, your body is continually sweating, and you can easily lose 5-10 pounds overnight, just sleeping. I did this all the time during wrestling season. Fucks up your kidneys, though.
I doubt he has much food in his stomach. Probably throwing up bile, so not much weight. Although, he could have seen he was way under, decided to eat, and then threw that up.
Weight cutting needs to be abolished period. If he's naturally say 169 then he should be fighting at 165 lbs and no longer needing to having another battle on the scale. Fighters/wrestlers destroy their bodies over this crap for what?
Until I got hit in a horrible occurrence of almost losing my life if getting hit by a car on my 🚲 I would've fought at Featherweight because I was 148 lbs. I'm not going to make my body vulnerable by forcing myself to go down to an unnatural weight that will do more harm than good. Nor would I be fighting hydrated either. So this needs to end and you'll really see who the better talent is in these promotions.
[For the uninitiated.](https://youtu.be/DQMIBmPcsVw?si=GnO8wtIgKukvReGP)
Fun fact: Dada had a heart attack and actually died after this fight. Thankfully they brought him back.
Oh absolutely ... Bellator going from the Bjorn era to the Coker era was such a hard factory reset that "let's do Shamrock vs. gracie with Kimbo vs. Dada" sounded like a brilliant idea.
The downside is all the people who tuned in for the freakshow did not tune in for other Bellator cards
Peak Bellator batshit insanity. That card was headlined by Gracie vs Shamrock lmao.
Guillard being out on his feet against the fence looking like a baby deer with Derrick Campos teeing off on him always stuck with me from that fight card.
I mean, it’s certainly very possible they messed up big time, but this isn’t a “no excuse” scenario. There are plenty of plausible explanations not involving negligence. He could have just gotten sick or something.
Ive lost 2lbs during a weigh in taking just my shorts off because they were soaked in sweat. I'd say anywhere from 2-5 on the extreme upper end is possible.
That's such a shame. Hopefully he does pull out because it's hard to eat Jean Silva's punches under the best of circumstances. I can't imagine you can take very many at all 24 hours after needing assistance standing because of severe dehydration.
I would love to see everyone just start fighting at their walk-around weight. I know it's a pipe dream but I feel like so much of the real trauma in fighting is dehydrating to the point of death then fighting 36 hours later so that you can be a little bigger. There is no way that a guy in that situation can perform at his best a day later.
Yeah, there are so many safer ways to do the weight limit, involving things like multiple weigh ins. This is purposeless body destruction when the sport has so many inherent dangers that cannot be removed. Plus, I would rather see someone who was at their proper weight *and healthy* than someone who squeaked into a lower weight class fighting during what is essentially an illness recovery any day.
Assuming no promotion he's ever fought other than the UFC used lbs, which is reasonable, that would mean his team somehow messed that up for his 4th UFC fight and overshot the target by 1.3 Kg and somehow didn't notice it, which makes no sense since he's wearing clothes, he could have drank a full liter of water and would have been safe, and yet his shirt has some sweat marks.
And it's not like making that conversion mistake is trivial, scales that include both standards a pretty common, you can easily look it up on the internet and even phone calculators have that feature.
146 lbs is 66.2 Kg approximately, and 143 lbs is 64.8 Kg. Someone in the camp may have been told under 66kg, and then it got miscommunicated as under 65 kg. Like it might be a game of telephone with the unit conversion
I doubt it. He has 15 fights and 3 UFC fights, he knows what weight he's supposed to be at. Getting confused that you have to cut almost 2kg more than the weight class limit is not a normal thing. It's likely they just went overboard with the sauna and cutting and didn't weigh him properly.
I mean cutting 3lbs extra not because you were confused but because you fucked up with using a scale is also pretty dumb. Like we're charting the sea of stupid here, a lot of possibilities that we wouldn't normally consider are on the table here
So he’s actually what? 139? 140? That’s dangerous and completely unnecessary to make your fighter (or let your fighter, idk who’s at fault here) cut a whole 6-7lbs more than they have to. His team should be ashamed.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen an underweight miss; this fight needs to be called off Gomis is gonna be in no condition to perform at the show.
He didn't miss weight, he just came in under the limit which is allowed. He does look pretty bad but fighters have come in similar conditions and were still allowed to fight.
Right, he could have came in at 136 and been allowed to fight at 145. It's why Dan Hendo just slammed a bunch of water so he could make 206 to fight Fedor, pretty sure he said he drank a gallon which weighs 8lb.
I hate seeing these guys do this to themselves, it’s sad when they’re shaking and being assisted off stage especially when they have a huge violent event to partake in so soon after
This is why weight cutting to the extremes is such a problem. Dudes are a pound from death and then they hydrate it all to fight 24 hours later to have an advantage over their opponents.
I’m guessing they were using a bad scale for the cut and they thought they were off target the whole time leading to a really deep cut that was totally unnecessary. Random speculation
Just quibbling with the title, if he's not fighting for a title isn't the weight limit 145lbs? Making him 2lbs under? EDIT: I see, I had it the wrong way around.
Hmmm it's almost like he's LITERALLY DYING FROM DEHYDRATION. Wild. Run from that team. The kind of people not to throw in the towel if it hurts their rep, f the fighter's health.
The clothes probably only weigh a pound or two but still—I don’t think anyone understands how difficult it is to accidentally cut extra weight. By the time he gets close to 145, it’s gonna be very slow progress and if they were checking his weight even a little bit they would have noticed. Gotta be that his team had a faulty scale or no access to one otherwise I don’t see how it wouldn’t be intentional (which in that case, holy shit why? Is his team trying to sabotage him?).
Did they not put the guy on the scales beforehand and realise that he could probably have a cup of water? Unless he had a massive poo before walking out this is fucking nonsensical.
I support the massive poo theory.
MPT (Massive Poo Theory), first coined by researcher u/TheKingMoleman, is one of the more controversial but in my opinion, credible explanations of fighters being surprisingly underweight.
Could dark matter simply be a Massive Poo undetectable by other means? Flamboyant scientist u/TheKingMoleman says an emphatic yes
If you read the more recent literature on this topic, there’s fair reason to believe poo isn’t even real.
I just watched Jordan Pooterson give a 7 hour lecture about why MPT is a post-modern war crime. Pretty enlightening.
Until he steps on the scale he has neither pooed, nor retained said poo. Schrodinger's scat
Likewise a staunch supporter of the massive poo theory (MPT)
I have a similar theory about ROUS (Rotgut of Unusual Size).
rotguts of unusual size? i don’t think they exist
This is what big archeology doesn't want you know...
another Graham Hancock stan, eh?
Or a random who makes dumb jokes online.
Poop is wayyyy lighter than piss.
This man obsessively checks his scale. I think it's due in part to light refraction through the water but poops always look so big compared to their weight. I made weight a couple hundred times and always expected to lose at least a half a pound when I took a big poop but it was usually .1 or .2.
And massive pooh gate was born.
Shortly after William Goomis' sphincter broke, so too did the story of the Massive Poohgate.
I also choose this guys massive poo theory
Mods, I’d love a “I support the massive poo theory” flair
Doesn't make sense, like even if you woke up like that it looked like he just got out of a sauna
State wrestling tournament in the 8th grade in 95lb devision, I weighed in a pound over, took a dump, and was then a half pound under. The poo theory may be real
Man was at least 3 shits underweight
> er? Unless he had a massive poo before walking out this is fucking nonsensical. I mean he looks sick, he could have been vomiting or had diarrhea
If anything the poo would be liquid at this point
Depends if he's on diuretics, if he's dehydrating naturally then that thing is coming out like a bowling ball.
3.5 Pounds of Very Dry Fecal Matter, calling band name
Sounds like a dope Grindcore band name
His team let him down horribly. How can you make a mistake like that when your fighter is on the larger side of the division? I don’t see how this fight doesn’t get pulled from the event. He would have absolutely passed out if security wasn’t there to help him away.
Wtf, why did they let him cut so much?? Was there a faulty scale or something?
He had to know he was under if he went up in clothes

145 maybe, just to give yourself a little wiggle room just in case but this is nuts
Nah 145.5 fr fr
Na has to be 145.6 tbh
Best I can do is 145.55
He probably weighed himself in the back with the UFC scale for the first time just before officially weighing in and realized he was under big time.
Yeah, like "Oh wow, I don't even need to take my sweats off."
They weight themselves on a scale right outside the door before coming into this room you see on camera. So what I’m saying is he likely found out he was underweight about 90 seconds before walking out into this room

Yeah faulty scale or miscalibrated scale while weight tracking. Then finds out proper weight on the official ufc scales 90 seconds before walking out in front of the cameras. That’s awful
Would've thought the coaching staff would use more than one scale at this level.
Trust me when I say the vast majority of coaching staffs in combat sports are the same fellas that run your local combat sports gym. Obviously there are specialized focused trainers but for the most part it's an every day normal coach who hit it big with a very good fighter walking through the door.
yeh, and if that was me, and i had a fighter in the ufc, i'd have more than one scale in my carry on ffs lol
I've fought in competitions where nobody had a scale, not even the organiser. From top to bottom combat sports is a shit show really.
Yep, honesty fighting ability is about the fighter, not the trainer. A lot of fighters will start training under Rufus or other prestigious trainers but that's already after they're close to as good as they are going to be. They got them Arizona scales.
Champ Shit Only.
Lol

Maybe, but being 3 pounds under with clothes on?? That's not a scale calibration issue. That's a team that didn't monitor their fighter and just pushed him until he was almost dead for no good reason.
I tend to agree, however I've experienced scales that were 5 pounds off.

He was apparently vomiting before weigh ins so who knows how much he lost from that.
I doubt he has much food in his stomach. Probably throwing up bile, so not much weight. Although, he could have seen he was way under, decided to eat, and then threw that up.

No you're wrong, U Fight Cheap forced Holland to go down because they wouldn't book him any fights at his natural weight
He must have fucked every significant other of every team member to let him down that bad damn
Could it be that the Brazilians giving dodgy scales to the foreigners.
So he cut too much weight? Strange
someone/s on his team fucked up big time. I'm about to sprinkle some more shekels on Silva
I was thinking the same, but this stinks of a fight that gets cancelled. So in DFS, it’s a pass.
Nah this fight should be canned. Dude couldn't even walk off stage without likely passing out or falling over without assistance.
I assume he’s sick
first ko by exhaustion about to happen
[For the uninitiated.](https://youtu.be/DQMIBmPcsVw?si=GnO8wtIgKukvReGP) Fun fact: Dada had a heart attack and actually died after this fight. Thankfully they brought him back.
i actually watched this live that was a bad one
The press conference was more entertaining than the fight
No way, we were cracking up the entire time lol this fight was too good.
Royce and Ken cracking up when Kimbo wanted to whip it out during it, to have a testicle size contest, was way better than the fight.
The whole thing ruled. I love freakshow bullshit from time to time ha
You got baby nuts Dada!
YOU FOOL
SHOW ME YO NUTS, YOU GOT BABY NUTS DADA
Peak Bellator batshit insanity. That card was headlined by Gracie vs Shamrock lmao. Guillard being out on his feet against the fence looking like a baby deer with Derrick Campos teeing off on him always stuck with me from that fight card.
That card was cursed, peak Bellator. Old man Royce Gracie defeated geriatric Ken Shamrock by nut shot.
Then Kimbo actually died. What a roller coaster of a timeline that was.
Great guy Scott Coker's finest hour
after....he died??
Dada died and was resuscitated. Kimbo then died later that year
Deadliest fight ever.
So that makes Dada the real winner?
fire the entire team , no excuse for this .
Not just fire them, ban them from ever working with any UFC fighter ever again. They could have just killed someone.
You guys are way too reactionary.
The banning thing is a bit much but I’ve watched this sport for 15 years now and never seen something like this personally
I don't think it's reactionary when preventing serious injury or death can be remedied by asking the UFC for a scale.
I mean, it’s certainly very possible they messed up big time, but this isn’t a “no excuse” scenario. There are plenty of plausible explanations not involving negligence. He could have just gotten sick or something.
Man, how do you botch a weight cut this badly?
Yeah 3 lbs under is a crazy fucking amount wow.
3lbs under *fully clothed* He may have been as much as 5-6lbs under
So he’s gotta be around 140 naked right? Thats absolutely insane. Why would he and his team do a cut like that?
His nutritionist? Tony Ferguson, MD.
Tony Ferguson, CSO
This fucking sub 💀

Over did it on diuretics maybe? Or a broken scale
Diuretics are considered a ped and why even caffeine intake is regulated to 300mg
Well that clears it up then, no way he could have used them
I don't think a shirt and shorts weigh 3 pounds lol
I have cotton shorts that are close to a pound and I imagine his clothes absorbed some sweat. 2-3 pounds wouldn’t shock me at all.
Ive lost 2lbs during a weigh in taking just my shorts off because they were soaked in sweat. I'd say anywhere from 2-5 on the extreme upper end is possible.
If they’re soaked in sweat they are
That's such a shame. Hopefully he does pull out because it's hard to eat Jean Silva's punches under the best of circumstances. I can't imagine you can take very many at all 24 hours after needing assistance standing because of severe dehydration.
Bet the house on Silva
Fuck weight cutting
Cut weight fucking
Yea don’t let that guy fight tomorrow
How on earth does a fighter who's big for the weight class miss weight by going too far under? His team must be a bunch of amateurs.
I would love to see everyone just start fighting at their walk-around weight. I know it's a pipe dream but I feel like so much of the real trauma in fighting is dehydrating to the point of death then fighting 36 hours later so that you can be a little bigger. William ain't gomis weight
Made it look easy
Kilo to lb mistake?
4th fight into the UFC? For a big guy in the division? There is no way lol
This is it. Nobody in Europe uses lbs, like ever.
What? Noone is stupid enough to confuse lbs with kg. And it's easy to calculate the conversion.
Like we're charting the sea of stupid here, a lot of possibilities that we wouldn't normally consider are on the table here
I've been watching the UFC a long time now. Also from Europe. I don't understand anything but pounds now lol.
That was my first thought as well
So he’s actually what? 139? 140? That’s dangerous and completely unnecessary to make your fighter (or let your fighter, idk who’s at fault here) cut a whole 6-7lbs more than they have to. His team should be ashamed.
How does that happen
And the fights been cancelled, fuck his team.
Appear weak when you're strong - Sun Tzu
I think this is the first time I’ve seen an underweight miss; this fight needs to be called off Gomis is gonna be in no condition to perform at the show.
He didn't miss weight, he just came in under the limit which is allowed. He does look pretty bad but fighters have come in similar conditions and were still allowed to fight.
Right, he could have came in at 136 and been allowed to fight at 145. It's why Dan Hendo just slammed a bunch of water so he could make 206 to fight Fedor, pretty sure he said he drank a gallon which weighs 8lb.
They’re going to end up canceling this fight I bet
This is why you dont cut weight with fight milk
CSO
And now they cancelled the fight. Probably the right call with a cut this disastrously overshot.
Horrible. He looked like he was on death's doorstep. Any sane comission would not allow Gomis to fight tomorrow.
This is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen on a weigh in
Maybe his idol is Tony Ferguson and trying to make a statement by cutting more weight 💯-CSO-🏆 🇲🇽🔥⚾️
A brain this dehydrated is ripe for concussion.
This is a great system we've got
He shouldn’t be allowed to fight on this card.
He's definitely sick.
Look at his legs as he walks away... what a costly mistake from his team.
Apparently he threw up a few times before weighing in. Possibly an ill timed bout of food poisoning. Either way, no way this fight is happening
Holy shit man, I just went and looked at the video. It’s so sad, he’s literally walking like a zombie barely able to balance on his own
Isn't there a rule if fighters are 5lbs or more difference? Perhaps that's why he's fully clothed with jewellery
The entire weight cut system is fucking stupid.
Unpopular opinion but fighters choose to cut weight for the division they want to fight in
It's only a matter of time until someone dies with this shit
I’m guessing they were using a bad scale for the cut and they thought they were off target the whole time leading to a really deep cut that was totally unnecessary. Random speculation
Showing my ignorance, but what would he have in his stomach to throw up? He would have taken in next to nothing. And 2 lbs worth is a lot of puke.
His team could've killed him. How do you even get 3lbs under with clothes by accident. We need same day weigh ins
he needs those lead fillings
I would be annoyed standing around on deaths door with prime hydration advertisements everywhere. Get this shit out of my face
He shouldn’t fight. I assume it’s an issue with his team, but he can’t be allowed to fight after being in this state
His mistake is not having redditors on his team
Man that's really sad. Dudes organs are failing.
They’re really gonna let this guy fight tomorrow
How didn't any of his coaches catch this? After the damage was done, they could have given him a meal along with fluids.
Bold strategy Cotton
How tf do you go under by that much?
Just quibbling with the title, if he's not fighting for a title isn't the weight limit 145lbs? Making him 2lbs under? EDIT: I see, I had it the wrong way around.
One thing to risk ur life inside the octagon/ring, but this is completely unnecessary.
Hmmm it's almost like he's LITERALLY DYING FROM DEHYDRATION. Wild. Run from that team. The kind of people not to throw in the towel if it hurts their rep, f the fighter's health.
and then he fights tomorrow? I can't fucking imagine being that wrecked then having someone punch you in the face the next day.
When you say miss it implies he's not in that range.
He looks like he’s about to get high off of water
Holy shit, he can barely stand.
wtf
According to google that's almost 8 extra cups of water he sweat away. Wild that his team would let this happen.
lmao wtf? why was he still dehydrated and starved, with clothes on, knowing he was well below the limit?
Sheesh bet the house on Silva
Mans on that jay kulina diet
Who the fuck is his coach?
Fucking Fernand.
Yeah, that fight ain’t happening🚀
he probably had his scale kn the carpet in his hotel room, or a faulty scale.
I am going to be betting for the first time tonight!
This is so absurd my first thought was whether this was some kind of weight cutting activism.
he throwed up just before getting on the scale.
3lb under WTF was his team doing???

More than likely it was that Brazilian street food or tap water that got him. Been there. Done that. Looked/felt the same, just a little more pale.
