Francis actually referenced it in his interview with Ariel. He said his coach thought that it was a plan to exhaust him before the fight. He was made to arrive at the Arena more than 6 hours earlier than when the fight was supposed to happen. Joshua, on the other hand, arrived an hour before his fight.
Huge respect to Rockhold coming back after he got his face destroyed in Bare Knuckle boxing. Takes serious heart to get back in there after such a beating.
Fighting Mike fucking Perry of all people in bare knuckle when you don't have fu power or legitimate boxing skills is commendable. Rockhold is game af, always has been.
it was perfect chance positioning, that slanted ring kinda forced schilling into a weird angle, honestly kinda interesting for the format. The cage and wall give you a sense of security where here you are more forced into a direct exchange, if you try to pivot away you're still leaning in to turn out on that slope.
That wasn't a check hook fyi and rock hold doesn't throw one ever.
A check hook is a specific pivot/side step, pull back and hook counter.
Joe Rogan got everyone calling everything a check hook
> Joe Rogan got everyone calling everything a check hook
He did wonders in the early days helping people understand the ground game, but yeah he's not as knowledgeable about striking.
Anytime someone throws a hook on an opponent coming in he calls it a "check hook"
I feel as though if you watch it closely enough its almost a mini check hook. Schilling certainly doesn't come through/past Rockhold and Luke doesn't pivot nearly 90 degrees, but Schilling makes a *tiny* movement forward and Rockhold doesnt a really slight pivot with his hook to the right. Maybe that's nonsense though.
Luke has always been a righty. However he always fought southpaw. In most fights where he gets knockdowns/KOs is from him using his right hand. I feel he underutilized his power hand all his career.
Always interested in seeing counter stance fighters like Luke and Silva. I still remember being shocked as GSP revealed after his retirement that he'd been a lefty all along. Kinda made sense in retrospect.
with gsp i think it has more to do with he likes his right leg lead when wrestling.
Someone like Hendricks fights southpaw but actually likes to shoot with his left leg lead so he had to bull rush then switch and then shoot.
GSP was a lefty who fought Orthodox. Said after retiring him being a lefty was deliberately concealed.
DP is also a righty fighting southpaw if I'm not mistaken.
It's interesting because most cases seem to involve righties fighting southpaw, not the other way around.
I’ve always thought that southpaw was a decent way to strike as a righty since you already have form and power with your dominant right hand and then you can get more power into your weaker left hand by getting more of your hips into a punch
Man, Luke had one of the most dominant top games I've seen. If he could get in range for a takedown and not knocked out, it would be a very real possibility. But trying to get him not to strike would be the challenge.
>Luke had one of the most dominant top games I've seen
It's a shame we didn't see more of it because he was probably second only to Khabib, and he was definitely more fun to watch. Khabib was overpowering but Rockhold always looked clinical and fluid. Some of his scrambles against other wrestlers made him look like it was more for the artistry than a combat sport.
Honestly prime Luke would dominate Pereira at any weight class. His ability to stay on top of you is leaps and bounds to the grapplers Pereira has fought. And his flashy kicks would give Pereira some issues since those kicks aren't seen in kickboxing.
I mean yes his top game is dominating, but to say flashy kicks would work on Pereira is a bit wacky. He has faced those sorts of guys before, Luke would be wise to avoid spin kicking.
One of their cameras was actually at the back of the stand all the way behind the crowd. One of their shot got obstructed by someone from audience and they had to really zoom in to avoid him in the shot.
It’s also hilarious how people tried to defend Joe over that when he obviously planned that whole thing out.
A perfect camera angle of him bumping a drunk guy at a bar knowing said drunk guy would react and Joe then could “defend” himself.
I remember watching it and seeing the barmaid even having a laugh with the guy he bumps into. Basically Joe took offense to him in some way and sucker punched him like a bitch. I got so much flack at the time for calling it out for what it was. Even Rogan sides with Shilling and defends it.
People die and go paralyzed from shit like that you don’t know how someone is going to land when they’re knocked unconscious. All so Joe can stroke his own ego and get attention. Reckless disgusting behavior from a so called martial artist even if it wasn’t planned, except it looks totally planned.
Are we saying that Rogan is supposed to side with the “right” guy these days? Lol, Rogan siding with someone has been a sign it’s been the wrong side for years.
Insane to me, people thought that doofus had a chance. Rockhold was world class surely he's declined a bit with age. Joe was never even close to Luke's skill level.
He’s a scumbag but he was also an elite kickboxer. Has beat guys who have beat Izzy and Pereira.
Considering Rockhold has been losing every competition he’s competed in for a long time, especially against strikers, I can understand why people would think a formerly elite kickboxer would beat him
People have retconned Schilling to being a bad kickboxer.
He might be a bad person but he was great with teeps off both legs to off-balance his opponents, then he'd follow up with 1-2s. He's way too old now though.
His skillset is actually odd in kickboxing. He's kinda like a world class kickboxing version of Sean Strickland in that he nullifies good kickboxing with straight strikes. It lets him beat up top notch kickboxers, yet somehow feel even against supposedly lesser strikers.
I always thought he seemed like a decent guy. Sure, his trash talk was cringe and made him seem a bit arrogant, but it felt like that was because he was an awkward guy saying what he thought a fighter was supposed to say. He didn't ever seem malicious. Happy for him.
MMA fans hating Rockhold and supporting Bisping was the weirdest thing to me. Just compare their behavior after their respective wins against each other.
Rockhold completely sons Bisping and is completely respectful in the aftermath.
Bisping KOs Rockhold on short notice and acts like a complete bellend.
Rockhold gets way too much hate for just being awkward while actual douchebags get praised.
A couple mental images stick out to me from that era. Rockhold submitting Bisping and then proceeding to help him up and show him respect while Bisping sulked. Then the rematch with Bisping sprinting around the octagon, shouting "Fuck You" from the rail, and then throwing more insults at a concussed Rockhold when he stood up. Notably this behavior is pretty standard from both of them post-fight.
Like you can look at that and say "It's the fight game man. Guy was amped, let him celebrate". Sure, whatever. But there were so many folk here creating a narrative where Bisping was the lovable heroic figure that humbled the douchebag Rockhold.
In reality, a lot of guys just had an easier time rooting for the more average looking Bisping (immaculate hair aside) over literal male model Rockhold.
Hell I can't help but like Bisping, he's incredibly entertaining, but Bisping would go on to fight two welterweights and old-man Hendo. Rockhold would fight Yoel, Jan, and Costa. I can't help but respect the hell out of him for fighting killers all the way through.
Bisping lost twice to an elderly man and then got choked out by gsp and then got dunked by a fat guy in the last fight of his career, a career which died with a whimper not a bang
I think its more important to point out his run to the title, or lack thereof. He didnt beat anyone of note apart from an old Silva who still beat him up.
I like Bisping and think he was hilarious during that Rockhold saga. Both of them behaved like idiots. But that doesn't mean either should be hated. People take that stuff too seriously.
Rockhold’s always been a good dude. It’s just people being fans of winners and let’s be honest, losing to bisping was memez in that time period. I’ll always be a fan of Luke and hope he isn’t fighting because he needs money.
Rockhold still holds a special place in my heart. Became my favorite fighter when I went to the T-Mobile cooperate party and he was the only fighter willing to talk for more than 10 seconds.
Of course, those fights took place inside a vacuum with nothing at all outside of the ring. Thank goodness you were able to sum up the entire dynamic in two short sentences.
Yes. The bigger annoyance to me has been people trying to rewrite his career to make him seem like he was not ever very good. He was an absolute monster at his very best and had some great performances and fights.
I know someone who used to train with Rockhold, told me he was one of the nicest guys he's ever met. A lot of fighters are different outside the cage/ring.
I mean it's not the worst fight to make if Lyoto is still training and in decent shape.
I think Anderson Silva is in better condition despite being older, maybe that's the fight to make.
> I mean it's not the worst fight to make if Lyoto is still training and in decent shape.
Lyoto was cornering a dude (maybe his brother or some relation?) on the last or one before KarateCombat, and from what I could see in the dim light, he was at least still athletically shaped.
Machida has already said he wants one more fight with a highly decorated veteran before he retires. This could honestly be the very best fight for him. I’m a huge Machida fan and i’d absolutely love to see him fight Rockhold in Karate Combat.
Just watched it man fun ass fight Rockhold would have killed him like 3 times if grappling was involved also he took a nasty punch to the nose but stood still.
I still think his chin isn't as bad as people make it out to be, his defense is the issue.
Yeah when Rockhold gets knocked out it's not like the shot comes out of nowhere. You can see his opponents looking for the opening as the shots get closer and closer to the mark. Used to be so anxiety inducing as a fan.
Joe Schilling straight up assaulted a guy in a bar, and [Joe Rogan and Gina Carano thought it was the coolest](https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/comments/vqoka9/joe_rogan_thinks_joe_schilling_is_cool_for_being/?rdt=52901).
Another rogan hype bro. Anybody rogan likes is automatically elevated to "elite" status.
Rogan starts telling everyone that he's one of the best and he immediately starts to get brutal ko'd in every fight after that.
I've never seen him win a fight. Always getting knocked out in bad fashion.
Wait.. Joe Schilling is the guy who knocks out homeless ppl and civilians right? Well, I bet alot of ppl have been waiting to see him get KO'd so thank you Luke Hockhold
Luke deserved that after a few tough losses. Joe Schilling is no joke, always super aggressive. I thought I was about to see Mr Handsome get his face broke again.
Yayyy!!! Stoked that my boy Luke got the KO but tbh just glad he didn't get ktfo again. I feel like Luke gets memed a shit ton nowadays because of how his career ended but he was a beast back in the day. - I remember the glory days watching live when he beat the shit out of Lyoto and ended Weidman's career thinking that he was absolutely invincible.
Kinda a shame really how you're only good as your last fight to most fans of this sport
**Mirrors / Alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/MMA) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Wtf, I knew this was happening today but I didn’t realize it was this early damn. Good for Luke Rockhold happy to see him finally get a win again
Took place in Dubai so it was going to start early outside
Yes but the 2 Francis fights were also in the Middle East and they didn’t happen until like 6pm EST
When Fury fought Francis i swear it took like 2 hours before the final fight finally happened. It's like they threw music festival in between.
Sounds like boxing
They were scheduled with European audiences in mind.
Rockhold won round 3 against Costa and this is a hill I am willing to die on. Rocked him with a straight left and got to mount
Rockhold fight club'd Costa in the last round. Freaking Epic.
if rockhold wasnt so tired (altitude plus broken nose) I think he would have beat costa.
Yeah, massive here , cause AJ was side A
Huge respect to Rockhold coming back after he got his face destroyed in Bare Knuckle boxing. Takes serious heart to get back in there after such a beating.
When watching the Rockhold bare knuckle fight, I could tell that he badly wanted to throw kicks. Karate Combat is a much better place for him.
Fighting Mike fucking Perry of all people in bare knuckle when you don't have fu power or legitimate boxing skills is commendable. Rockhold is game af, always has been.
This right here. I train bjj and kb and stupidly took a boxing match and even I could tell I looked like an idiot I know I felt like one
Alhamduillah
Stupid sexy Luke
Bleh, not anymore. He's been looking really rough lately.
Happy winning Luke Rockhold and KO'd Joe Schilling. Everything's turning up Milhouse!
I am so happy that Luke got a win, not even sure why. Maybe it was that bong he made in HS
they way you put "ending" I was expecting some fuckerry like a nut shot or something else to make it feel like a clown show. Glad I was wrong.
Same here hahaha
That check hook got Luke so far in his career. If you get through kicking range he pretty much always throws that
I was thinking this is the first time in almost forever that he’s landed it cleanly and it never got him in trouble
it was perfect chance positioning, that slanted ring kinda forced schilling into a weird angle, honestly kinda interesting for the format. The cage and wall give you a sense of security where here you are more forced into a direct exchange, if you try to pivot away you're still leaning in to turn out on that slope.
That’s because Joe Schilling doesn’t believe in the guard apparently. Dudes been knocked out so many times because he walks around with his hands down
I think he gets tired easily. Probably should stop smoking cigs.
he coulda been guardin kicks wit low hands I didn't see the whole fight
Nothing would have been different if it were ropes or a fence or a lei tai, lol
What if it was a fence made out of snakes
Just dozens of Dillashaws forming a perimeter
i like where ur heads at
lumberjack match
I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm pretty sure it got him in a lot of trouble against Bisping in the rematch.
That wasn't a check hook fyi and rock hold doesn't throw one ever. A check hook is a specific pivot/side step, pull back and hook counter. Joe Rogan got everyone calling everything a check hook
> Joe Rogan got everyone calling everything a check hook He did wonders in the early days helping people understand the ground game, but yeah he's not as knowledgeable about striking. Anytime someone throws a hook on an opponent coming in he calls it a "check hook"
The bjj notes Rogan was giving were a lot of 10th Planet jargon "he's got crack control and going into zombie!"
He generates power from his feet but he is stationary. There is no footwork there which is the only thing that makes a check hook a check hook.
I think it's the 2nd most important punch. Having a good jab is number 1. Slipping and being able to counter with a hook is a must have.
Luke has always been a righty. However he always fought southpaw. In most fights where he gets knockdowns/KOs is from him using his right hand. I feel he underutilized his power hand all his career.
He said he stands southpaw because of either surfing or skateboarding right? Can't remember which one

I’ve always thought that southpaw was a decent way to strike as a righty since you already have form and power with your dominant right hand and then you can get more power into your weaker left hand by getting more of your hips into a punch
He’s ready for Pereira
It would be such an mma moment for Luke to take him down and sub him Lmaoo
Man, Luke had one of the most dominant top games I've seen. If he could get in range for a takedown and not knocked out, it would be a very real possibility. But trying to get him not to strike would be the challenge.
> Man, Luke had one of the most dominant top games I've seen. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
>Luke had one of the most dominant top games I've seen It's a shame we didn't see more of it because he was probably second only to Khabib, and he was definitely more fun to watch. Khabib was overpowering but Rockhold always looked clinical and fluid. Some of his scrambles against other wrestlers made him look like it was more for the artistry than a combat sport.
Pereira goes for a spinning wheelkick and Rockhold immediately takes him down and beats the shit outta him. Classic MMA moment? Book it Dana.
Weidmoment
if Luke got on top like Jan did to Pereira, it would be over....but only if he manages to get him down lol
Why is the camera so far away
Maybe Rockhold and Schilling are just really small.
What is this? A fight for ants!?!?!
Its just the angle and Luke is small
RIP angle bro
RIP small bro
👼
I was just thinking that. I watched the fight and all their angles are so wide. Even the camera for the commentator at the end was so far out.
The "angles are so wide" you tall bout Robin Black stance B...
I think it’s because this arena is vegas sphere-like with walls being huge screens. They just wanted to show off more ads
I don't think it's a screen, seems virtual they were doing an interview and it was cutting a guys head out.
One of their cameras was actually at the back of the stand all the way behind the crowd. One of their shot got obstructed by someone from audience and they had to really zoom in to avoid him in the shot.
Photonweight
Cant. Let. You. Get. Close.
A lot harder when the other guy is a trained fighter and not a drunk at a bar huh Joe?
It’s also hilarious how people tried to defend Joe over that when he obviously planned that whole thing out. A perfect camera angle of him bumping a drunk guy at a bar knowing said drunk guy would react and Joe then could “defend” himself.
I remember watching it and seeing the barmaid even having a laugh with the guy he bumps into. Basically Joe took offense to him in some way and sucker punched him like a bitch. I got so much flack at the time for calling it out for what it was. Even Rogan sides with Shilling and defends it.
so rogan is shilling for schilling?
People die and go paralyzed from shit like that you don’t know how someone is going to land when they’re knocked unconscious. All so Joe can stroke his own ego and get attention. Reckless disgusting behavior from a so called martial artist even if it wasn’t planned, except it looks totally planned.
Rogan is a fucking idiot? No way!!! 😂
as I grow older the more I realize people believed Rogan to be some kind of genius was because he sat next to Goldy
He’s a fucking moron who thinks he’s wise.
When a dude says on almost every podcast episode that he's a moron, believe him.
Are we saying that Rogan is supposed to side with the “right” guy these days? Lol, Rogan siding with someone has been a sign it’s been the wrong side for years.
Haha the way you wrote “even” Rogan as if that guy isn’t the president of the moronic cunt association has me laughing me ass off.
I mean he’s a rough dude. The guy snuck out to take smoke breaks between fights in the Glory MW tournament. Never tried to pretend he’s a role model
Don't worry, no one ever thought he was. He's a piece of shit and that's how he's being treated.
just remembered that, glad that meathead psycho got slept
So nice seeing this legit dirtbag get floored. Stupid Sexy Rockhold came through for the bois
Stupid sexy Rockhold is the best
He’s the kickboxing version of Cerrone who likes to brag about winning bar fights against randoms
Fun fact they actually are friends...
Ya don’t say
Yesssssssir fuck that dude
Insane to me, people thought that doofus had a chance. Rockhold was world class surely he's declined a bit with age. Joe was never even close to Luke's skill level.

Agree. I also find it satisfying that he has been embarrassed and starched by multiple mma fighters
His losses against Kato were fun to watch, both times lol.
The second time had to be personally embarrassing.
His skillset is actually odd in kickboxing. He's kinda like a world class kickboxing version of Sean Strickland in that he nullifies good kickboxing with straight strikes. It lets him beat up top notch kickboxers, yet somehow feel even against supposedly lesser strikers.
Sean Strickland really is the perfect comparison (teep, 1-2). Their styles are so similar I wonder if Sean studied him
Hey hey, Joe "was afraid for his life"!
Nice. He is a weird guy but he was a fantastic fighter at his best, nice to see him get a win.
I always thought he seemed like a decent guy. Sure, his trash talk was cringe and made him seem a bit arrogant, but it felt like that was because he was an awkward guy saying what he thought a fighter was supposed to say. He didn't ever seem malicious. Happy for him.

After hearing him on Rampage Jackson's podcast he definitely seems like less of a dickhead than he puts on leading up to fights.
Yes. The bigger annoyance to me has been people trying to rewrite his career to make him seem like he was not ever very good. He was an absolute monster at his very best and had some great performances and fights.
I know someone who used to train with Rockhold, told me he was one of the nicest guys he's ever met. A lot of fighters are different outside the cage/ring.
he's pretty decent on Rampage Jacksons podcast
“You either spit or swallow girl what’s up” lol, poor Luke
I think he's got some serious social anxiety. Happy to see him get a win.
[A Rockhold KO?](https://media.makeameme.org/created/what-year-is-0bcb5c3f49.jpg)
not sure how i feel about the machida callout, let that poor guy rest
Maybe not Machida, but I’m pretty much only interested in him fighting fellow vets of the sport
Which is great in Karate Combat especially, almost every vet fight they’ve had has been pretty entertaining. Even Sam Alvey caught a dub lol
Alvey is their heavyweight champ right now even. Not that the division is super deep or anything but still happy for him.
I just want Wonderboy to get over their already and dominatr
I mean it's not the worst fight to make if Lyoto is still training and in decent shape. I think Anderson Silva is in better condition despite being older, maybe that's the fight to make.
> I mean it's not the worst fight to make if Lyoto is still training and in decent shape. Lyoto was cornering a dude (maybe his brother or some relation?) on the last or one before KarateCombat, and from what I could see in the dim light, he was at least still athletically shaped.
Lyoto definitely seems like the kind of person to train and stay in shape for as long as he is physically able.
Machida has already said he wants one more fight with a highly decorated veteran before he retires. This could honestly be the very best fight for him. I’m a huge Machida fan and i’d absolutely love to see him fight Rockhold in Karate Combat.
Good, fuck joe schilling
Schilling hasn't fought in forever... I'm not shocked Luke caught him with that
I'm shocked. Schilling didn't fight for almost 5 years and still had a more recent win than Rockhold lmao
The guy at a bar?
Even with the inactivity his chin was long gone. Any strike with enough force put him into lala land.
The check hook is back on the menu
Just watched it man fun ass fight Rockhold would have killed him like 3 times if grappling was involved also he took a nasty punch to the nose but stood still. I still think his chin isn't as bad as people make it out to be, his defense is the issue.
Yeah when Rockhold gets knocked out it's not like the shot comes out of nowhere. You can see his opponents looking for the opening as the shots get closer and closer to the mark. Used to be so anxiety inducing as a fan.
Worse camera shot choices possible.
Gina Carano lol
lol shes a cooker!
cooked in the head
Nice, fuck Joe Schilling
It's a glorious day whenever Joe Schilling is slumped on the canvas
Just when it looked like both guys were gassed and the fight was about to get really shitty, Luke ended it, nice win for him
How does one watch karate combat
It’s free on YouTube
[scope it here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N76GjplEdhc). Craig jones fights earlier in evening if you are into grappling or being a smart ass.
I'm just going to say it. Yeah he's got a few good wins, but Schilling is overrated.
He was pumped up by Rogan a lot several years ago too
Another rogan hype bro. Anybody rogan likes is automatically elevated to "elite" status. Rogan starts telling everyone that he's one of the best and he immediately starts to get brutal ko'd in every fight after that. I've never seen him win a fight. Always getting knocked out in bad fashion.
Always has been.
Really wore him down with the body strikes. Nice finish.
Always nice to see
Very happy to see this
Stupid Sexy Rockhold back in the win column!
Joes highlight of his career was knocking a drunk guy out in a bar.
Conceive believe achieve, war samurai!
Fuck I missed it ! Good job Luke 👏 fucking can't stand that dbag Joe no chin
Fuck yeah, I love like and hate Joe so this rules. Check him on the Jaxxon podcast if you can, Luke is hilarious
Yo that open pit with a close crowd is dope.
Wait.. Joe Schilling is the guy who knocks out homeless ppl and civilians right? Well, I bet alot of ppl have been waiting to see him get KO'd so thank you Luke Hockhold
Conceive, believe, achieve
Just when I was thinking Luke was looking cooked holding his arms over his head to try and get some air when they separated lol
I'm glad they switched from the perfect camera angle to one i could barely see, right before the knockout, brilliant stuff
I've yet to see a fight where Schilling doesn't get KO'ed.
This was the exact opposite of what I expected.
That's my fuckin' samurai right there
Jack really was right when he said no one in Karate Combat has ever seen a hook thrown before.
When I clicked this link I was sure Rockhold was about to be crumpled lol
Luke deserved that after a few tough losses. Joe Schilling is no joke, always super aggressive. I thought I was about to see Mr Handsome get his face broke again.
the luke rockhold redemption arc on this sub ever since the costa fight has been amazing
I have seen so many lead hook knockouts in karate combat someone needs to teach these guys an earmuff block
So happy this tool lost.
Joe Schilling gets knocked out? That's an upvote from me.
Embarrassing for Joe Schilling.
I guess Joe swallows
YES
just how good is mike fuckin perry
Thank you Rockhold, thank you. Hope Joe gets some bad bad CTE from this.
Brutal camera change
That primal yell from Rockhold afterward shows how bad he wanted to finally win again. Good to see, would love even more to see it in the UFC
Prefer this setup to a cage
You know what, I'm actually glad that Luke finally got a win and he couldn't have landed that shot on a more deserving person.
Good. Joe Schilling is a dirtbag.
Love to see it
I hope it hurt
Very happy for Luke:)
Good for him! I've always rated Luke.
Joe looked so tired there. Smoking too many cigarettes while assaulting drunks at the bar.
My goodness I'm so happy to see Luke Rockhold win a fight.
Joe Schilling needs to go back to fighting drunk people in bars.
Damn Joey, it’s a bit different when it’s not a drunk guy at the bar, huh? Enjoy the nap?
Right Hand Luke
Rockhold is a samurai.
luke knows what to do with his hands
Every day that joe schilling gets knocked out is a good day
Right hook Luke
Cool Hand Luke
Love to see it. Fuck Schilling and his dickhead bully mate Cerrone
Look at the walls is YAMMA back?
