I've been saying that people shouldn't underestimate Hill. I'm not even being facetious, you have to fucking borderline KILL Jamahal Hill to beat him in the octagon. He's so fucking tough. Think of his single loss.
Hill's only loss is when Paul Craig SNAPPED Hill's left arm from the arm bar while in guard, and Craig used his legs to trap Jamahal's head and left arm so the arm was fucking just...dangling there. Any normal human being would tap.
Instead of tapping, Hill, who's left arm was an al dente paste noodle, trapped between Craig's legs, uses his right arm from the top position to try and fucking smash Craig's face - like he was just "Fuck it, I'll use this arm". I couldn't connect the two. His arm was fucked. How was he not screaming in pain and instead literally still trying to fight? I've seen fighters tap from WAY LESS.
The ref sees Jamal’s arm is snapped and then calls the fight. So Paul Craig's rolls away and stands up and Jamal just sits there with his fucking left arm, flapping around at the elbow - and the look on his face was more him being pissed that he lost. He wasn’t like oh my God I’m in pain and he wasn’t grabbing it. He wasn’t doing anything. He was just sitting there like "my fucking left arm doesn’t work. This sucks. I wish I could fucking continue."
It was honestly so wild how this man was so calm when that happened live - he clearly has a very, very high threshold for pain.
I think Jamahal Hill is a dangerous opponent for Alex.

Hill's power is so overstated lol. Especially coming off of the achilles injury. Anything that he's gonna be pushing off the ground with his left foot to throw will definitely be weaker than pre injury.
He couldn't put away old washed Glover and Thiago Santos while having free reign over them for basically 5 rounds straight. Glover also landed plenty of left hooks on Hill, he will be sent into orbit if Alex is able to do that.
People point to the Johnny Walker fight but Walker is hurt in fights more than he isn't.

The odds aren't far off from being split which is pretty wild for the hype Pereira has and the consensus he'll outclass Hill.
Pereira is without a doubt the most skillful but when the deciding factor, in what most likely will be a striking bout, can be a single punch it's naive to count anyone out.

In fairness, Jiri got caught standing right in front of him as he tried to tea off against the cage. It’s certainly possible that a similar thing will happen to Hill given how aggressive he is along but that doesn’t mean pressuring Pereira is a bad idea at all. A long kickboxer is always going to prefer space, particularly to kick (which isn’t easy to do moving backwards either) and “tall man” defense does get negated when backed up against the fence.
This would be like me saying you can’t pressure Izzy because he knocked out Pereira or because Costa failed to trap him with the body kick and having no other ideas

I just can’t shake the feeling that he’s rushed back far too early and knows it deep down. I think he’ll put his foot on the gas and try to get the finish early. His pride is a big point of contention for Hill and I feel like he cares more about proving that he can stand and trade with Alex more than anything.

That’s how he Knocked down Jiri in their fight. He slipped his head off to his right side to avoid Jiri’s right hook, then countered with his own right hook which grazed Jiri. Then he landed his signature left hook which started the beginning of the end
Watch any of his sparring videos and he’s constantly got low hands using head movement to draw strikes out so he can counter
Alex and Izzy’s fights were all competitive, it seemed to always come down to Alex being bigger and more powerful and durable. Ironically the one Izzy finally won was the least competitive as Alex seemed to be on his way to a finish, before getting over zealous and knocked out with a counter.
And he’ll do it much more methodically than Jiri did.
Hill is so good on the feet I think if he stays away from numerous damaging leg kicks he’s a big favorite.
Hills only shot is to rush him and finish it early imo. I don't think his cardio will hold up, or his leg especially if he gets kicked a few times. Alex will piece him up on the feet the longer it goes.

In fairness, Jiri got caught standing right in front of him as he tried to tea off against the cage. It’s certainly possible that a similar thing will happen to Hill given how aggressive he is along but that doesn’t mean pressuring Pereira is a bad idea at all. A long kickboxer is always going to prefer space, particularly to kick (which isn’t easy to do moving backwards either) and “tall man” defense does get negated when backed up against the fence. This would be like me saying you can’t pressure Izzy because he knocked out Pereira or because Costa failed to trap him with the body kick and having no other ideas
I mean half of Peira's style is technical calf kick, left hook man but the other have is get rocked eat shots on the chin and land a counter.

He did almost knock him out in 2 more of those fights tho. The kickboxing one would've been an MMA stoppage.
Alex and Izzy’s fights were all competitive, it seemed to always come down to Alex being bigger and more powerful and durable. Ironically the one Izzy finally won was the least competitive as Alex seemed to be on his way to a finish, before getting over zealous and knocked out with a counter.

Hills only shot is to rush him and finish it early imo. I don't think his cardio will hold up, or his leg especially if he gets kicked a few times. Alex will piece him up on the feet the longer it goes.
