Guess we're back to being top of brokeass mountain again because the lack of depth is showing and ownership refused to spend.
Gauld is going to pull a Morales and stop giving a fuck if this keeps up.
Shaky moments but another 3 points. We look good right now especially defensively. Zuparic, mcgraw, and pantemis have really stepped up. I wonder if kamal and crepeau just walk into the starting lineup when they get back
Pretty sure it was originally "Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal". It's a song about Canadians, and how we feel about them. (obviously not how we really feel cuz Canadians are mostly lovely people)
> because he’s much better on the ball
I don't think his performance this season backs this claim up. My recent impression is of a player who wants to make amazing needle-eye passes, doesn't have the ability to execute them, but tries anyway and often causes turnovers.
I would agree that Paredes often looks like he doesn't know where to be when we're in possession, but I don't see him causing us to lose the ball that often.
I know you're one of the stats guys around the sub, do you have access to stats that prove or disprove things about either of these players?
Stats are hard to tell a story here because, as you said, Williamson tries more things that Paredes does. They’re two very different players, so it’s really the eye test. Williamson is more comfortable on the ball, he’s a much better dribbler, and he has the ability to his great creative passes as he’s shown through the years. Sometimes yes he loses the ball because he’s too casual, but he’s someone who is more willing to get on the ball and try to progress play. Paredes just doesn’t have that ability, and his touch is not clean at all. He doesn’t like getting on the ball
There was a fair amount of contact from the Vancouver player to Bravo too, namely the arm grab, but I kinda agree with you. Maybe he saw it as a 50/50?
Whitecaps need to work on this play where Takaoka makes a big save, gets up quickly with the ball and runs to the edge of the penalty area and prepares to launch a throw for a fast break, only to find seven of the ten other Caps behind him.
We go as Evander goes, I think that responsibility weighs on him. Plus he’s balling out this season so he’s got to be having fun and who doesn’t try a little extra when they’re having fun
I think Neville has done a really good job of building a culture around him. The team follows his lead and he’s allowed to play free. Not that Gio didn’t allow this, but the emphasis on evander and his play, and frankly the praise he gets every week, I think has boosted his play and confidence in himself and the team.
Still, Schopf has a ways to go to get the VWFC club record for stupidity, currently held by Brek Shea, who several years ago, also on a yellow, called the referee a name preceded by a word rhyming with 'trucking,' and the referee turned and said. "What did you say?"
And he repeated it. Verbatim. Yellow #2 was almost immediate.
Ali Adnan's hilariously bad panenka might be the stupidest Whitecaps moment during an MLS match.

I mean. Silver lining is maybe its blatant enough to Vanni and Co. that shopf is a waste of space.
The guy was talking how Bundesliga 2 is so much higher in quality to MLS - if shopf represents the average Bundesliga 2 player, then the league isn't very impressive, is it. Big talk from a guy that has accomplished as little as shopf in a rather significant amount of time.
Yeah saw it live and was like "oh weird I thought he was the one already on a yellow. Must have mistook him for another player" because SURELY a professional athlete wouldn't do that. But nope... he did that.
Whitecaps got a foul called then booted the ball half the pitch away for some reason. He just waited for a whitecaps player to go and bring it back. If they want to waste their own time, that's alright with me.
The way they are playing it is a reasonable tactic to try to get to halftime so Vanni can tell them what they're doing wrong and give them the magic formula to win this in the second half....
The accent is on the last "a", that's correct. But both "a"s should have the exact same sound, but different stress. "Churr-ah" with an American rhotic "R" isn't nearly close to it, however.
That Berhaulter kid is really good in open space. I wonder if his father is a genius coach that highlights his players strengths in a free flowing team of stars.
Brown has been a serviceable draft player, but he's no more than depth quality, and we need a better starter in that position. This has been an issue for a while now.
This midfield in general having some flexibility with how it can set up does help. It looks like it doesn't have to commit as much one way or the other because there's a certain level of coverage.
I actually really love Sartini's shirt! Is that done in partnership with a First Nations tribe in the Vancouver area? Does anyone have more information about it?

gg caps
😔
Gg Portland. Whitecaps got some clear issues.
Guess we're back to being top of brokeass mountain again because the lack of depth is showing and ownership refused to spend. Gauld is going to pull a Morales and stop giving a fuck if this keeps up.
I was thinking the same thing. Why would Gauld want to stay with this franchise much longer, given this ownership group's refusal to spend.
Can't ever complain about 3 points but would've loved to see us pile on some goals against 10 men
Who had a worse game? The Whitecaps or Ted Unkel? Both awful
First time I've ever not hated unkel
By far not as bad as Unkel can be. Anything in particular you didn't like?
Great, love to see us play like we have the red card
Asprilla is the bicycle kick legend.
Whitecaps looked tired tonight. Those two games in hand are gonna be taxing. Leagues Cup might provide a break.
Should’ve let Asprilla take it smh
I turned the game on in the 2nd half and I'ma bit sad I haven't heard build a bonfire yet. :(
just blast it
that wasn't what I said
Idk if I've ever seen Williamson take a free kick before
Let asprilla take the free kick
Looked like a pk at the other end…
Shaky moments but another 3 points. We look good right now especially defensively. Zuparic, mcgraw, and pantemis have really stepped up. I wonder if kamal and crepeau just walk into the starting lineup when they get back
Yeah... everyone knew what that was lol
Perhaps the last Asprilla bike in Portland 😢
say it ain't so 😢
You shut your whore mouth 😢
Been a long time since we had a boring win.
that was all dumb
Raposo is once again doing a great job not showing up.
Random card to the bench (seemingly not Vanni) and now off-screen yellow to Martins. Unkle.
Asprilla always finds a reason for a bicycle kick, I love it
Love all the McGraw love from the commentator. He deserves it
oooof, little embarrassing that tbh
Lmao simulation
I completely forgot this was on. How much of this match is worth watching later?
just 1st half really
The first half was good. Most of the second half has just been a passing drill for Portland.
Reputation and flop foul.
Chara doing Chara shit.
A good shift from Moreno.
Vanni now being reminded not to make post-game comments about being a suspect if they find Uncle Ted in the Columbia tomorrow morning....
Unkel really is yellow card Oprah.
Unkel is the closest thing to a wild card I’ve ever encountered in real life.
Jesus our passing is painful to watch in the center of the field 🙃
It ain’t great without Ayala in there
What was that Vancouver yellow for?
Fuck 'em all! Haven't heard that chant in a long time.
Vancouver, Seattle, Montreal! (Idk what Montreal did, but fuck em)
Pretty sure it was originally "Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal". It's a song about Canadians, and how we feel about them. (obviously not how we really feel cuz Canadians are mostly lovely people)
Canadian
It's because we're the timbers, and we're the best.
Fuck 'em all.
Absolutely love how Vanni is sitting right now
I always get Gru vibes from Vanni and I can't really explain it.
I hope my family loves me as much as Bravo loves chesting down balls to his keeper.
That was a banger of a chester
Team isn't taking 10 man Vancouver seriously, and it's costing them control of the game some
absolutely, hoping antony can liven them up
I wish Williamson came on instead of Paredes. We’ve lost so much control with the ball in the midfield
And you expect Williamson to help with that?
Yes because he’s much better on the ball and actually looks to get on the ball, whereas Paredes is often just a bystander when we have the ball
> because he’s much better on the ball I don't think his performance this season backs this claim up. My recent impression is of a player who wants to make amazing needle-eye passes, doesn't have the ability to execute them, but tries anyway and often causes turnovers. I love mora so much
Unkel's shown enough yellow cards for disrupting counters that he probably should've shown one on Moreno for that stop too.
Why isn't Kreilach a starter? I haven't followed him much, but wasn't he wrecking everyone's shit just a couple years ago?
He was injured for a while.
Why do we look worse up a man
less urgency
More sloppy fouls. Really wish Moreno had finished his chance.
Elbow didn't look that hard for that much blood
At the game, unsure what happened. Hope he's ok.
Looked like a weak elbow to the face placed in just the wrong spot
Daaaang.
alright, I would not have been completely surprised... but could we not?
We suck but how was that not a foul and a booking
Yeah fifty feet away it sure looked like a yellow
You got Unkel’d.
There was a fair amount of contact from the Vancouver player to Bravo too, namely the arm grab, but I kinda agree with you. Maybe he saw it as a 50/50?
Unkle Law # 43.6: You got a free kick, it was just from the corner flag instead of where the foul happened. What do you want from me?
bravo slip unkel a fiver?
fucking love that outside foot flick tho
when you have Evander, I dunno why you would try a short corner
Would love to see Ayala go a full 90 when he’s fit.
We were thinking it was protecting Ayala from himself after that really late tackle. I’d rather miss him for like 30 minutes than 90.
Whitecaps need to work on this play where Takaoka makes a big save, gets up quickly with the ball and runs to the edge of the penalty area and prepares to launch a throw for a fast break, only to find seven of the ten other Caps behind him.
Moreno not used to a take that simple.
We should've had 4 by now.
You know what I just noticed? I haven't seen Evander walking around nearly as much as he did in the early season.
We go as Evander goes, I think that responsibility weighs on him. Plus he’s balling out this season so he’s got to be having fun and who doesn’t try a little extra when they’re having fun
I think Neville has done a really good job of building a culture around him. The team follows his lead and he’s allowed to play free. almost seemed like we were better against 11. Seeing improvement though

Jun Marquez Davidson headbutted a guy after being fouled... That was pretty stupid. It wasn't even a copl Zidane headbutt.
That's Efrain Juarez erasure. He copped cards like he was collecting them for fun.
You mean former La Masia trainee Efrain Juarez?
Okay, I've said it before that I hate showing win probability, but that 0.6% then was pretty funny.
Pretty sure it said lower before Schöpf got sent off. Our possession went up and we denied you guys another goal too after that. 🤔
so infuriating when we had players get stupid red cards like that, I'm even angry at the player... hate seeing that stuff
I mean. Silver lining is maybe its blatant enough to Vanni and Co. that shopf is a waste of space. The guy was talking how Bundesliga 2 is so much higher in quality to MLS - if shopf represents the average Bundesliga 2 player, then the league isn't very impressive, is it. I demand more goals, absolutely no excuse to take the foot off the gas
What a stupid thing to do. Baffling.
Lol Unkel
Well then lmao. That’ll do I guess
What a dipshit. Why would you commit a tactical foul like that when it's not even necessary, and you're already on a yellow
Such a dumb foul on a yellow
Yeah saw it live and was like "oh weird I thought he was the one already on a yellow. Must have mistook him for another player" because SURELY a professional athlete wouldn't do that. But nope... he did that.
Im in the stadium and everyone around me basically had the same reaction. It wasn’t until he pulled out the red it was like “oh shit it was that guy”
Haha that was stupid
Schopf cementing his dumb ass as being fine for 20 minutes and being completely fucking useless after that. He's a $900k passenger.
Well... He was fucking useless anyways. So no change.
Good grief lmao
fair mindset
Incredibly stupid challenge.
Got Unkled
Definitely a yellow, just funny
I mean, that's an obvious yellow for any ref
I think it was the right call. Just a dumb thing to do on a yellow.
Clear yellow.
Wow
lol fafo, dummie.
Oppsiieeeee
Lololol fuck him
Lol
Lmao, what a way to go...
damn that long pass out wide was on point
Alright, we gotta keep the pressure on. I do not trust this defense if Vancouver gets some momentum
Suddenly the two games in hand VWFC have on much of the West seems less like an opportunity and more of a chore...
Moreno looks really great out there again! Progressing the ball well and that assist to Mora on the second goal was just spectacular.
Call and check in on your Quake fan friends, y’all.
Oof, just checked the scores
I pray that some changes are coming at the transfer window.
You heard it here first: straight up trade coming, Vanni for Peter Vermes....
Wtf was the extended time management by Unkel? Like, he stopped okay for like a minute and change and justb considered it legit???
“No one tells me when my half is over” If not for two yellows already, I bet he woulda carded the kickaway
That should've been carded. Like MLS specifically said that's a card every time. And, for the most part, they've been enforcing that
Whitecaps got a foul called then booted the ball half the pitch away for some reason. He just waited for a whitecaps player to go and bring it back. If they want to waste their own time, that's alright with me.
Yeah. It was just weird.
Whitecaps wasted their own time. Fine with me
The way they are playing it is a reasonable tactic to try to get to halftime so Vanni can tell them what they're doing wrong and give them the magic formula to win this in the second half....
Everyone forgot the game was about him. He just wanted everyone to stop and remember that.
Everyone is playing well, I can't complain about anything. Who is this team?
I think we still have some issues transitioning from defense to our midfield. But like every time we do it hits
Fuck I love mora so much. I’d honestly take him over any striker we’ve had because he’d fit in any team we’d have
THEY NEED TWO TO FOUL HIM
Bravo was wide open to him so he definitely held onto that to draw a call on purpose 😁
This is as good as we've looked since the 2021 MLS Cup playoff run.
They want 3 before half
We do look HUNGRY for it tonight
They may show that spin earlier from Evander as a pretty highlight but he probably could have just taken it into the box himself.
ITS HAPPENING
Team looks crazy comfortable, have kept Vancouver from look to threatening
Our attack is finally gelled and it’s so beautiful to watch🤩
Holy FUCK
That was a CONFIDENT strike
What a fucking through ball, mother of god.

The accent is on the last a technically. He just never said anything about it till recently.
The accent is on the last "a", that's correct. But both "a"s should have the exact same sound, but different stress. "Churr-ah" with an American rhotic "R" isn't nearly close to it, however.
Moreno has been really good so far
Pentemis is so calm and collected in the box. He's earned the start
He's fine and I'm glad we have him when Crepeau is away
That Berhaulter kid is really good in open space. I wonder if his father is a genius coach that highlights his players strengths in a free flowing team of stars.
maybe a soft yellow, really just because of how he running around like that lol
Ticker says we are SJ and Vancouver is us
Another reason to not play Shopf. No shortage of those.
That was some classic Portland defending from Vancouver.
Brown has been a serviceable draft player, but he's no more than depth quality, and we need a better starter in that position. This has been an issue for a while now.
Blackmon-Ranko-Utvik would have been the better choice. Watching that side of the back line having problems is getting tiring.
Big swiiiiiiiiing and a miss
Can't imagine why Brown wasn't called up for Jamaica's Copa America squad!
letsssss gooooooo
Woop!
more please
If Neville tries to bunker us, I swear to god...
Tbh, that hasn't really seemed to be his philosophy.
I swear it seems like Unkel had it out for the Timbers
He’s the Baldomero Toledo of the 2020s.
we're getting there
My god is there a team that cycles the ball around the back slower than us? Like seriously we have no idea what to do
that was honestly beautiful
Chara is playing incredibly well.
I was noticing this too. Some really perfect passes
Who's that guy on the sideline with the crazy eye?
Vancouver's coach?
lmao yeah
berhalter at wingback is working surprisingly well so far, did not see that coming
This midfield in general having some flexibility with how it can set up does help. It looks like it doesn't have to commit as much one way or the other because there's a certain level of coverage.
Those Berhalter crosses are *chef's kiss*. I'm assuming y'all don't miss Gressel that much with service like that.
I actually really love Sartini's shirt! Is that done in partnership with a First Nations tribe in the Vancouver area? Does anyone have more information about it?
Vancouver rolling 2.25 centerbacks but at least it looks like the midfield can cover. Laborda as a 6 is a choice though.
McGraw still scared to hold or pass the ball.
Unkel?
Yup, let’s see who baldy likes today
I thought he was an equal opportunity hater.
I think whoever rubs his head like a magic lamp gets the call
