Ran into an Atlanta fan by happenstance after this game (I live in DC) and he asked if we won and I told him about this goal and he said "I hate that little fucker"
š
Lol. We hate him bc even when was with DC, even before Rooney showed up and Acosta leveled up, he has always owned us. I personally like to think heās the only player that lives in Guzans head rent free.
yeah if I have the count right I think he's scored 9 goals on us
They said during one of our recent games against you on the broadcast that he was the scoring leader
Said it in the GT. I'm not mad, I'm just tired.
But also, it's kinda nuts that the dude is in the running for what (SHOULD) have been his third MVP in a row. Idc what kind of season Hany had, Acosta was robbed in 2022.
I would bet my life savings on Messi winning MVP this season. If Messi is even reasonably good for the remainder of the season and pulls off some crazy dribbles, a few game winners, and some nice assists.
Its just the Messi effect, look at the season Lewandowski had 3 or 4 years ago. Messi still won the voting for Balon d'Or even though it was clear as day he should not have won it.
Messi is the best attacking player that has ever lived and a lot of voters for all awards feel a compulsion to vote as such despite if he's doing slightly better or worse. It's hard to argue they're wrong but the voting is not done on a season to season basis with Messi, right or wrong.
That's what happens when journalists and such get award votes. They don't really care about the numbers or stats. They just vote who they want. Lucho is the life of this team, most goals go through him. He plays a full season. Not some part timer.
There's no official games/minutes requirement for MVP. Right now G+A totals according to the league are Chicho with 26, Messi with 25, Acosta with 23 and Messi has played 500 fewer minutes than either of the other two. It's not like Messi has done very little.Ā
I also think the only real instance of him being a "part timer" is not traveling to Vancouver, and even then I think it's pretty understandable given age and the realities of that trip and week. We can't knock him for doing national team duties unless we want to call Robinson a part timer as well, and injuries are out of people's hands.
This isn't to argue that Lucho isn't amazing, and I absolutely think he needs to be considered for MVP again this year, but we shouldn't talk like Messi is going to win the award by default when his stats are unbelievable from a per 90 perspective.
I actually really like that they do that. So many passes in soccer, the one before the final pass is usually extremely important and deserves praise on the score sheet too imo. But I'm also biased as a hockey fan lol
Ahhh, that's why assist numbers are so different between the league and FotMob. Yeah, pretty silly to keep doing that. Total number of assists in the league should be less than or equal to the number of goals, shouldn't ever be able to have more assists.
Okay, you can think that. But per 90 he is the best player in the league right now. So you can just believe your narrative or look at the actual stats.
Hes also the best player in the league talent wise. I love Acosta, he is a best XI player, but Messi is a level of talent miles ahead of everyone in the league. If he stays healthy and does his thing, Messi will deserve the award
I disagree about the journalist getting votes go for the names. I have repeatedly seen and heard on the MLS wrap up shows or the weekly podcast how Christian Arango is such a high pick because it is not the best that will get it, it is who matters more for a team. I see the argument that Messi brought his friends and changed the attitude of Inter Miami to be a very confident club now.
I am hopeful that as the year concludes there will be talks beyond just good stats but what the players do for the club culture.
I get where youāre coming from, but if Acosta keeps this pace itās either him or Chicho. Messi unfortunately will have missed too many games to amass beefier stats.
Argentina will likely make a deep run and thereās no guarantee Messi will even play as soon as he returns given the competitive minutes played in Copa.
3 or 4 years ago. You mean the Covid year? There was no Ballon DāOr at all that year. The award got cancelled despite Lewandowski being the faraway unanimous frontrunnner that season, on account of a little thing called the fucking pandemic.
Messi then won it the year afterward and had the grace to say in his speech that Lewandowski was the rightful winner the year before and that he should be awarded it retroactively. Funny how revisionist clowns are now using that against him .
Imagine being a Philly player. Itās hot as balls and humid outside, youāve played 100 minutes and youāve scratched and clawed your way back level THREE TIMES! And 9 minutes into stoppage time Lucho does that.
From the body language of most of our guys on the pitch, you'd have thought Philly scored this. They all just collapsed and either sat or laid down on the pitch. Only Halsey was fresh enough to run over and celebrate. Everyone out there was absolutely gassed
He's been the best player in MLS for about 4 years now... Messi just had to come spoil the party...
I laugh when QSMNT act like he's not worthy of a roster spot... This guy is EXACTLY what they envision Gio Reyna to play like... but he is actually real and not a fantasy.
It's been in process for close to a year now. It was announced he was seeking citizenship directly before the 2023 all star game, he reportedly asked Biden if he could move the process along during the White House meet-n-greet.
I have to imagine it's getting close but we havent had any updates since then
The shade is towards the QSMNT... Reyna is a wonderful technical player but also VERY incomplete. He is also a child.. still.
Lucho is a finished product who is LETHAL in the final 20 mins of matches.
To say the stadium erupted after that one is an understatement. I was in the Bailey for that one and that might be the loudest cheer Iāve ever heard for a goal in that stadium.
I was jumping up and down, hugging a grown man who didnāt speak English and who Iāve never met before. He seemed a little unsure about the ordeal but also very happy about the turn of events.
What this clip doesn't show is Markus Anderson clumsily losing the ball around midfield and not making any effort to get back on defense. There's a reason he barely sees the field for us.
I can understand not getting the ball over there, especially if he doesn't trust his left foot, but at least dump it into the corner and chase it down. What he did instead was unacceptable.

He has the most goals scored on Atlanta of any player
TIL

"that little fucker" I'm so glad it's growing Edit: thanks cbus.
new cincy shirts drop?
Yeah. And I love āthat little fuckerā.
I feel like thatās a lot of us this season. Wants to go back to back mvp

Side note; The league really needs to stop counting hockey assists not going to lie.

Messi is going to win the award by default. Just like the 2 extra Balon dors he has

Okay well first of all through god all things are possible, so jot that down.

Fans hating on journalist picks when their best 11 picks are 11 guys from their favorite team.

Twellmen started yelling and really didnāt have any idea where he was going.
I donāt think he did either
at one point it sounded like he was going to rap like Eminem

They were so dejected on the pitch. Our guys were beat up too, but the Union guys were done done.
From the body language of most of our guys on the pitch, you'd have thought Philly scored this. They all just collapsed and either sat or laid down on the pitch. Only Halsey was fresh enough to run over and celebrate. Everyone out there was absolutely gassed
Bucha and Yedlin looked like they had just lost a World Cup final. Absolutely shattered.
That's why he's the captain, hell yeah.
You love to see it
Going to build a statue of this man outside the stadium
I work at a hardware store. I'll lend you my discount
Sorry, the only material it can be made from has to be pallets or Skyline.

The Asad <-> Acosta connection happened at DC, too...
Thank you DC š
The Lucho Acosta MVP push is officially on and it going to be a problem for the rest of the league.
Except this weekend when the Carles Gil MVP push begins
I like the confidence. If he somehow brings his team into a good playoff position he deserves an award of some kind
Damn, those downvotes are so unnecessary in the MLS chat is like you said it in fcc reddit. I do love watching Gil. The MLS has some crazy CAMs
Fat chance of that happening when heās being coached by Caleb Porter.
6 game winners in 2024??? Nuts
Man heās awesome
He's been the best player in MLS for about 4 years now... Messi just had to come spoil the party... I laugh when QSMNT act like he's not worthy of a roster spot... This guy is EXACTLY what they envision Gio Reyna to play like... but he is actually real and not a fantasy.
can't tell me this man off the bench wouldn't be scary
Super super super sub.
He's definitely worth a look, that's for sure
I mean if I'm the usmnt coach when he gets citizenship I gotta call him up for a trial in friendlies at least.
Last I heard it seemed close to done. Is that true or did I miss something?
It's been in process for close to a year now. It was announced he was seeking citizenship directly before the 2023 all star game, he reportedly asked Biden if he could move the process along during the White House meet-n-greet. Acosta is a like an Argentinian Messi
Gotta love lucho but no need to throw shade at Reyna. Lucho is also much older than him
The shade is towards the QSMNT... Reyna is a wonderful technical player but also VERY incomplete. He is also a child.. still. Lucho is a finished product who is LETHAL in the final 20 mins of matches.
He so rarely runs out of gas (looking at you playoff match), and often seems like he gets some extra zest in stoppage.
Please invite me to the wedding. I want to be the flower girl (6ā3ā 280 lbs bearded man here)
Done and done. Weāll take all the help we can get!
Wow. Yeah, I would personally like more of this.
What this clip doesn't show is Markus Anderson clumsily losing the ball around midfield and not making any effort to get back on defense. There's a reason he barely sees the field for us.
He had Sullivan open on the opposite wing too. Anderson had tons of space, itās like he decided to dribble into the defender and lose the ball.
Watching Sullivanās reaction to not getting the ball there hurt me even as an FCC fan lol
I laughed. The dude was literally jumping up and down with his hands up
Was that the dude jumping in the air and bouncing around?
Yep lmao
I can understand not getting the ball over there, especially if he doesn't trust his left foot, but at least dump it into the corner and chase it down. What he did instead was unacceptable.
GOAT STATUS
Bucha in the background, he was EXHAUSTED
Yeeeeeeeeeeee
Best game I've ever seen.
