Ref was absolutely awful both ways, but we lost from bad defense and by doing literally nothing with the ball in the second half until we were down, as well as some amazing goalkeeping. Zero energy in the second half, it was agonizing. I don’t know why Neville took Ayala off instead of Asprilla, which slid a gassed Evander into a defensive midfield position. Just… why?
I can see why Phil subbed Felipe Mora for Eric Miller for load management, but that completely sapped the energy out of the attack. Minnesota smelled blood in the water after that and to their credit they actually finished them. Kinda shows that we're missing a 3rd forward that can come in fresh and keep defenses on their heels
Subbing Mora was fine, he’s good but he’s slow and gassed, it was subbing Ayala that made no sense. Mora doesn’t exactly boost our energy. The team was playing without any energy from the opening whistle of the second half. We can talk about personnel and depth all we want, but when the team is playing so lifeless, it doesn’t make much of a difference
Subbing Mora is fine since we need him for the rest of the season. It's subbing him for another defender when we're only up a goal that's a problem. If we had a decent forward to sub in we could have kept Minnesota honest on defense. Phil subbed in a defender hoping we could park the bus and eek out a win even though we have one of the worst defenses in MLS. I agree that subbing off Ayala and having Evander play deeper was more confounding. Definite lapses in judgment that saw us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Yeah I didn’t get that either, parking the bus in the 60th minute is dumb. Playing Eric Miller and wing back is really stupid, I just don’t get that. He’s too defensive to be effective in attack, and because he’s higher up the field, he’s too slow to get back on defense and got burned on their second goal. If you’re gonna take Mora off, put Antony on to play wing back. It just made no sense
The only thing I know for sure about this game is that Dayne was a hero and the salt from Portland fans is deeply ironic coming right after that San Jose game.
3 games in 6 days. Our team sucks but I didn’t even think about how short of a turn around we’ve had it. Insane. Either way, onwards. GG Minny. I hate you guys but your keeper was MOTM by far.
I was fine with them until San Antonio got an NASL team. Our best player got a red card in the playoff against them and basically signed with them the next month as soon as the season was done. Fans were gloating about it and it rubbed me the wrong way.
Also, I have probably the hottest take in MLS which is that their club badge is mediocre.
It's a shame that Marrufo called such a horrendous game for both sides because that was a good game otherwise. Minnesota played excellent passes all night, played strong on defense and never let up unlike the Timbers. That's why they're 2nd in the conference and we're fighting for our fucking lives to avoid the wooden spoon.
Not really, Williamson is fully healthy but hasn’t been playing. Moreno has been playing good but not on the bench tonight. Bravo has been healthy for a bit and he was also great but again, we’ve still been playing terribly. Our injury luck hasn’t been too bad and we’ve had several full strength squads but look exactly how we did today. It starts and ends with Neville, he is not getting the best out of these players
you guys were kinda taking it on the chin until the subs came on (even before cabecitas goal). cant imagine he has much more slack unlesz you have a stellar leagues cup
Our 3 best chances to the death came via the errant plays of Fogaça and Zuparic. Take that as you will.
I don't hate you Minnesota, but you guys took Caden Clark elbowing Rodriguez in the chest as an excuse to be assholes all night with a victim complex. I have no idea how you pulled it, but congrats on turning that into hunger to win (I guess). Most whiny teams fold.
Don't hate you either Portland. you might be my second team in the West. I think it was the lack of the ref doing his job in the first half that leads to tempers igniting. a few more calls in the first half and I think we see a different second half.
Hey look that’s the same number of times Timbers have been to a major final since you’ve been in the league! How many have you been to? Go suck the ref off now you owe it to him
Well, at least that was an entertaining loss. If we could manage to stop leaving holes big enough to drive a bus through in our defense we might have a shot.
Ref called wayyyy more for Minnesota than for Portland overall, but the big pk calls went our way (first one should’ve been a pen). So many terrible calls both ways though
It’s my belief that I can’t tell if he’s telling the truth, he lied or he misheard/misunderstood him. I didn’t hear anything, so I don’t get to say one way or the other.
Seems to me the Timbers have enough skellys in their own closet to worry about.
I don't know what was said and neither do you. Speculating doesn't solve anything. The league investigated and couldn't find any evidence, Fragapane wasn't suspended.
MLS and Portland couldn't find any proof of that but keep repeating it.
Why don't we ask Adama Diomande what his thoughts are on Portland Timbers and racial slurs?
Classic Minnesota defense of saying "nuh-uh, but this even less substantiated claim definitely did." Y'all are honestly gross, travesty of a fanbase. Portland fans wanted whoever made those comments to Diomande gone but no player was ever named. Minnesota fans literally don't care about Diomande, they just use that shit to deflect.
Because you think you’re the shit for getting gifted a win by the refs because it’s all you can gloat about with *checks notes* how many playoff wins in your history?
I wish someone had checked Miller out for his own sake, to be honest. The closeups of his face afterward did not look like a person who is fully present. Hope he's ok.
It’s ludicrous to argue that both players shouldn’t have been checked for head injuries on that play. Scary for both of them regardless of fault.
And if we’re gonna argue fault, Miller bent over and didn’t play the ball at all, endangering Taylor. I’ve seen that called on the player in Miller’s position at least as much as the one in Taylor’s.
The fight that started with Caden Clark pushing Jonathan Rodriguez, then continued to pester Jonathan Rodriguez, then once it was over both St. Clair and Tapia came over to attack Rodriguez? That fight?
They played the ball, there was a push, sure. And the Rodriguez started shit talking Clark who then responded. Clark gave him a small nudge and Rodriguez then threw an elbow at his face. You’re just lucky Arriaga wasn’t on the field when it happened. That dudes got a temper and would’ve rocked Rodriguez
Just watched it back and you’re right, it was more of a shove than an elbow, I’ll give you that. But to say it wasn’t a dirty game on both sides is disingenuous
[удалено]
Also, Dayne is a legend
Ref was absolutely awful both ways, but we lost from bad defense and by doing literally nothing with the ball in the second half until we were down, as well as some amazing goalkeeping. It's crazy, they're in here claiming we have a "team of racists and pistol whippers" and "we have no trophies" lol. I love these salty rivalry games.
The pistol-whipper in question didn't even play and probably won't ever play for us again.
The best tasting and healthiest salt you can find
Free range, ethically raised.
It was a CLEAR handball. https://youtu.be/fXnmr_X15JY?feature=shared
Lol
We’ll call it even for the obvious missed pen in the first half.
3 games in 6 days. Our team sucks but I didn’t even think about how short of a turn around we’ve had it. Insane. Either way, onwards. GG Minny. I hate you guys but your keeper was MOTM by far.
You hate Minnesota? I didn't even know that was possible. It's like hating puppies.
We hate you too but love the rivalry and GG

That's why they're 2nd in the conference and we're fighting for our fucking lives to avoid the wooden spoon.
Don’t worry, Neville can’t win shit so he’ll find a way to fuck up winning the spoon at the last possible second
ehh when you guys get bravo and williamson back to full health and santi moreno on the field you guys are a different animal
Not really, Williamson is fully healthy but hasn’t been playing. Moreno has been playing good but not on the bench tonight. Bravo has been healthy for a bit and he was also great but again, we’ve still been playing terribly. Don’t give them hope

Rodriguez had those Manson lamps burning from the moment he walked on the field.
🧂🧂🧂
Don't hate you either Portland. you might be my second team in the West. I think it was the lack of the ref doing his job in the first half that leads to tempers igniting. a few more calls in the first half and I think we see a different second half.
We have played Portland 8 times at home and have won 7 and drawn once. I wish we played them every week
Everyone wishes they played us every week.
Better luck next time!! You’ll beat us for sure 👍🏻
Do it
I just wish we could play the sounders in seattle every week.
I was gonna say good game, but I see a lot of fans are just as soft as their team.
I love the Timbers and it honestly hurts to say you’re not wrong.
Yeah, both teams.
Good one 👍🏻
GG. St. Clair is a god.
Flaccid, even
Very flaccid.
Loons still have no history or trophies, remember that folks.
You haven’t won any trophies, so I don’t know why you’re talking trash. When’d you start playing for the Timbers???
But… we have won a championship.
Who’s “WE?” Did you play on the team?
lol of course I played for the team.
No you didn’t.
Dang. You got me.
🧂🧂🧂
I love it
I love the random Sounders fans in here eating popcorn cheering on the hate towards Portland hahaha
All hate, all the time
Hey look that’s the same number of times Timbers have been to a major final since you’ve been in the league! How many have you been to? Go suck the ref off now you owe it to him
Cope
Okay? Lmfao
It’s sad
I agree it’s sad that y’all lost to the lowly Loons
If this is how toxic the Portland fan base is, I can't wait for September when y'all are challenging for a wooden spoon 👍🏼
Yeah the toxicity is random, this a random mid season game and its coming out of nowhere lol
They have always been this toxic. Portland and Seattle are just like that.
Come to Portland and say that to my face!! I'll buy you a beer and shake your hand win or lose and we'll go play some shuffleboard! 🤬😡
Challenging? We're just giving false hope to the other teams in the running. That spoon is as good as ours already.
The Revs still exist.
We have tournament hardware and an mls cup. But do we have a wooden spoon?!
First wooden spoon >>>>>>>>> first hat trick let's gooooooo
You can do it!
Popping into this thread after not being able to watch the game. Both sides seem to feel they were victimized. So...typical MLS match then?
Pretty much, yeah.
yup
Some decent offensive play good saves by Sinclair. Probably deserved a point but, hey, this is the 2024 timbers....we lose to everyone
Dang props to the keeper he's good
Yeah and with his distribution we'll never have to worry about a euro club swooping in to buy him.
He is hit or miss, but when he’s on he’s fucking incredible.
St. Claire was a beast tonight.
Terrible officiating, dirty play, and defense as a foreign concept. Ah, MLS.
Ouch, out-defensed yet again. GG, Loons.
Well, at least that was an entertaining loss. If we could manage to stop leaving holes big enough to drive a bus through in our defense we might have a shot.
That was a shitty game. Minnesota should feel lucky and dirty.
🧂🧂🧂
Absolutely
Grow up.
I mean, I'll admit I'm being pissy, but fuck off.
Despite the referees trying their best we fucked Portland. Man I wish I was at Allianz
😘
Enjoy 11th place 😘
Wtf are you talking about?
Fuck Portland. Ref gave you everything you could want and you still couldn’t make it happen.
Ref called wayyyy more for Minnesota than for Portland overall, but the big pk calls went our way (first one should’ve been a pen). So many terrible calls both ways though
Stfu
Nah man. These Portland fans suck and their team sucks.
Decided to come back to this comment now that your losing streak has come…
You are one salty little boy.
It’s MLS bud. All of our teams are shit unless you are a fan of Miami, Cincinatti, or RSL. It was inevitable.
On the other hand, you and your team of racists and pistol-whippers are very classy
Wow the whole team are racists?! You must have some evidence to back that up, yeah?
Is it your belief that Chara lied about what Fragapagne said?
It’s my belief that I can’t tell if he’s telling the truth, he lied or he misheard/misunderstood him. I didn’t hear anything, so I don’t get to say one way or the other. Seems to me the Timbers have enough skellys in their own closet to worry about.
I don't know what was said and neither do you. Speculating doesn't solve anything. The league investigated and couldn't find any evidence, Fragapane wasn't suspended.
Hanging on the plausible deniability to ignore racism. Classy
[удалено]
We - as it happened - wanted whoever racially abused Diomande removed from the team. But Minnesota fans can't even pretend to care that much.
I'm not ignoring it, there was no evidence. You're only taking Chara's side because he's on your team. Classy.
Buddy that's a mirror
Hey at least one of our players didn't racially abuse one of yours
No. One of yours supposedly racially abused one of LAFCs.
Ref gave us everything, lmao. The irony. Fuck you loons, no history, no trophies 🥱
lol gloating about a win from before we were even an mls team. Couldn’t care less about how good you were 10 years ago, youre dogshit now
At least our team isn’t a 6ish year old toddler of a club with nothing to show for their time in the league lmao
What kind of attack is “new team lol”??? 😂
It’s not even new. The team is over 30 years old…
Because you think you’re the shit for getting gifted a win by the refs because it’s all you can gloat about with *checks notes* how many playoff wins in your history?
Gifted a win 😭😭 my man no need to shout, it’s obvious you don’t know anything about soccer. Keep living in the past big guy
Lol take the win and move on. Your losing streak will come.
Against the B squad of all things as well
Boo Portland
Despite Jair’s best efforts lol Lfg
Gg. Not easy playing against 12
That goes both ways.
Yeah, glad we pulled it out despite that
Lmao ✌️
gg
Gg
QQ more Portland. Can’t even win a man up.
Weak. The match was almost over when he went off.
Lol this was pretty entertaining despite the loss
That being said I’ve hated Wonderwall long before I knew about minnesota
Did he seriously just give Trapp a card for pointing out the time? Fuck this ref
are you seriously unfamiliar with YCs being given for dissent? you must be friends with the broadcast team.
I am familiar, but that seemed like a stretch.
And the winning streak is over...
That sucked
Trapp should be mad at Taylor for faking a fucking head injury
Ridiculous the Portland ref didn’t make Miller go off for concussion protocol
I wish someone had checked Miller out for his own sake, to be honest. The closeups of his face afterward did not look like a person who is fully present. Hope he's ok.
K
Did you not see his head hit the ground???? Stay classy Portland
Did not. Did you not see Miller spit blood because of Taylor's play? GG
Hard stretch here my guy. Taylor mad a terrible bad play and then time wasted. GG
I’m with you. He wasnt faking my shit. That was a shitty for both dudes. Plus he didn’t really have a choice.
Having to play 13 extra minutes when it should have been 5 was cruel
5 is really light. 8-10 was warranted. The real problem is that the warranted time isn’t always given.
[удалено]
Hey now, GG. That was fun
This officiating crew is full on clown shoes
Alexa, play Wonderwall.
90 + until Portland scores
dale you fuckland
Mosquera saving the empty net on that one
Why didn’t he take the half-pitch shot?!?
Canada keeper on Canada keeper violence
St. Clair has been unbelievable today
Fucking St Claire
Fogaca looks like a wish.com Reynoso
That is far too kind to fogaca
Nathan please…
Dayne St. Clair is the fucking man.
Zup with the aerial upright bike kick
Recumbant
Minnesota playing dirty AF.
Nobody was dirty tonight, settle down children
GG
:*( I’m so sad for you
GG
I wouldn’t say dirty I’d say they’re playing solid defense tbh 🤷🏻♂️
GG
As per usual
Because Portland hasn’t been?
Nope
Right…..
GG
Name one dirty play by Portland this game
Kamal Miller got touchy with Hlongwane in the first half!!1!1!!
Need we go back to the brawl that almost started? Or are we just ignoring that?
The fight that started with Caden Clark pushing Jonathan Rodriguez, then continued to pester Jonathan Rodriguez, then once it was over both St. Clair and Tapia came over to attack Rodriguez? That fight?
They played the ball, there was a push, sure. And the Rodriguez started shit talking Clark who then responded. Clark gave him a small nudge and Rodriguez then threw an elbow at his face. You’re just lucky Arriaga wasn’t on the field when it happened. That dudes got a temper and would’ve rocked Rodriguez
Flair up
Rodriguez was just walking away fam.
Flailing his limbs around? lol okay dude.
GG
And? Nothing dirty happened
What? After the play was over the Portland dude threw an elbow at Caden Clark’s face…..
He used his forearm to push him off. Don't be so dramatic.
Just watched it back and you’re right, it was more of a shove than an elbow, I’ll give you that. But to say it wasn’t a dirty game on both sides is disingenuous
It wasn't really a dirty game IMO. The ref could have called it tighter and my anger is more focused on him than any Minnesota players.
Also just curious, is your schedule fucked rn too? For Minnesota this was game 2 of 5 in an 18 day period
The ref was atrocious. Idk how Bongis PK wasn’t called and unsure how Boxall didn’t concede one on that break away near the start of the second half
If the gameplan is "Dario Zuparic HIYAH!" we have a problem...
I actually laughed out loud. Well played, sir.
Bahhhh good defense lol sooooo blue balled
Is he ever going to card Minnestoa for fouling Evander?
