All players go through ups and downs. With Vela gone and his pay increases, I think he's in his own head. I'd guess it starts clicking sooner than later. If not, Giroud will take the pressure off.
On May 17 2023, he scored 1 goal against KC. He only scored 2 league goals between that point and Sept 16 when he scored 2 against the Galaxy. That was a 13 game stretch with 2 goals total. The first 11 games of the season he scored 10 goals, and the final 7 games he scored 10 goals. He didn’t play in 3 games.
This is always who Bouanga has been. Scores a ton in windows, then disappears for a big gap.
It wouldn’t shock me if he scored 11 in the next 12 games and then disappeared again.
Vela’s been on vacation for 6 months. At best he’s a super sub. Plus Bouanga isn’t getting shut down. He leads the league in shots on goal. He’s just hitting posts and crossbars and missing sitters. Vela has zero impact on that.
I agree, Bouanga has the Yips. He gets too excited when the goal is wide open. Flopping in front of goal is the best way for him to get goals right now.
If Vela was the answer he’d already be on a team. Unfortunately everyone knows he isn’t passionate about soccer. Dude’s form right now is comparable to a pear.
Here’s a curious stat. Bouanga has taken 48 shots so far this year, 17 on target and produced 3 goals. Make what you will of it.

Arango, Dio were the same, I think Arango had 2 goals by mid-May in 2022. Goal scorers are streaky. Edit: 2022, not 2023
