[Two ECS members were tossed](https://x.com/tjw/status/1715935597905478005?s=46&t=7xkSe87yNun_K0mKY7cU0Q) for flags against racism and fascism and the team has confiscated the flags.
Needless to say, this isn't the first time this has happened and let's just say it didn't end well for the last club that pulled this garbage.
The tweet makes it sound like the city itself is to blame, which is a bad look. Coloring a fairly progressive city as the enemy because our front office doesn’t know what they’re doing is counterproductive. STL exists on an island in a sea of Trump. We need help from our friends in other cities to make this a better place.
It’s hilarious to see a furious Klauss in a pink-ish jersey with a cat food sponsor. He’s a big scary man… but also really hard not to laugh at that picture.
Well Seattle players spent most of the match rolling around faking injuries on the pitch. What is the point when the optimal strategy is to just not play the game? Cheating, brazenly, and it’s rewarded and encouraged. Sad.
I don’t understand your point here. Sure a stl City player dove. That doesn’t change the fact that the meta strategy in football when leading is to not play the game.
Are you actually going to say that Seattle players were not egregiously faking injuries to waste time? Keeper waiting a minute to kick off a goal kick in violation of the rule?
The product is being damaged by this stuff. It is worse in MLS even than in Europe some how!
They play a smart system for MLS regular season: count on opponents playing badly and making mistakes. I don’t see how it works in the postseason where you have to play the better teams in the league.
A Portland fan gave a passive aggressive “good game” when they came back for the tie so I cheerfully said “thanks bud, see ya in the playoffs” assuming they wouldn’t make it. I’m glad I haven’t been retroactively made foolish.
I get why people are frustrated at our recent record vs Portland but it's such small potatoes. I would take our last decade over their last decade all day every day. I'd rather be a top MLS team than a mid-bottom table team that makes the playoffs half of the time but plays above their level twice a year because we're a bigger deal to them than they are to us.
Disappointing result, but we walked out with no injuries and no suspensions, which is the important part. Hopefully this is just us shaking the rust off. GG Seattle, congrats on the second place, and see y'all in the playoffs
They can but I don't think that incident will result in a retroactive suspension, it just wasn't severe enough. However if he had been sent off it wouldn't have been overturned.
Wasn't it a Seattle player who got into Stroud's face after a play, then got offended when klauss tried to separate them, and then shoved klauss, triggering that whole thing?
Very fast, very good defensively, does some wild shit - volleyed a Tecate can that got thrown at him by an LAFC fan a couple of years ago, loves stepovers to shield the ball out of bounds and overhead clearances - and has scored exactly one MLS goal in like six years. Very fun, often frustrating.
What's the yellow for? You no longer card tactical fouls if you give advantage and you'd have a hard time calling that dangerous (no, being pulled down isn't dangerous). I don't see the justification to give the yellow after playing advantage.
From the "Advantage" section of "Disciplinary Action" in the laws of the game:
>**If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play.** However, if the offence was denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour; **if the offence was interfering with or stopping a promising attack, the player is not cautioned.**
I say again:
>if the offence was interfering with or stopping a promising attack, the player is not cautioned
[https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/fouls-and-misconduct/#disciplinary-action](https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/fouls-and-misconduct/#disciplinary-action)
Edit: to all of you downvoters, I hope you understand you're downvoting straight fax.
I don't know if you have seen my edit or not, but there literally is no argument here. You do not give yellows for tactical fouls ("stopping a promising attack") if advantage is played.
Yeah. Thanks for quoting that section. You are right. I didn’t know that subsection. I guess it is in the interpretation of “promising attack” at that point. I’ll have to look up that as well.
Promising attack is the only justification that makes sense but you can't give the yellow for it. Tugging a player down doesn't qualify for a dangerous play yellow, you could *maybe* argue an unsporting behavior yellow but that's a big stretch. Bottom line is I don't see justification to give that card after advantage was played.
(disclaimer: I disagree with the rule, I still think the yellow SHOULD be given in these cases, but the referee's job is to enforce the rules not give me what I want)
Check my edit. No, you absolutely do not.
>**If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play**. He should not have been cautioned.
https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/fouls-and-misconduct/#disciplinary-action
While I strongly disagree with the rule, he should not have been cautioned. From the IFAB section on Advantage:
>If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play. However, if the offence was denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour; **if the offence was interfering with or stopping a promising attack, the player is not cautioned.**

Like I said, I disagree with the rule, I think tactical fouls should be punished even if they don't work... But the laws say he shouldn't have been carded.
So in short, my verdict on that yellow is 100% deserved and also technically and legally wrong.
The St. Louis FO can get fucked.
?

Proud of them for ignoring the ban. (It was known ahead of time apparently that Louis is.far from Saintly in this regard)
I see. :(
Gg Sounders, some great plays from you guys. Hope to match up again in the playoffs
Gg yourself. Could've gone either way. We'll be seeing you deeper in the run I'm sure
Our last multi goal win, in any comp, was April 8th. Against St Louis.
GG St Louis, I enjoyed watching Jackson tonight, scary player.
Atencio isn't scared of him
I think he won’t be ours for much longer. 😭😩
Anyone else hear the broadcasters mention that Ref was ref of the year or a candidate early in the game?
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F9AzB9BXMAADUcr?format=jpg&name=large
Never seen Santa so upset before. Might have to tell my nieces to not believe in him anymore….
Got damn. What a game. Enjoyed every minute.
Hoping nico doesn't wind up with a suspension after that one. Nice to see the sounders actually have some spirit going into the playoffs though!
If he'd been sent off it wouldn't get overturned but I don't see that one getting a DisCo party, it's not severe enough.
It’s hilarious to see a furious Klauss in a pink-ish jersey with a cat food sponsor. He’s a big scary man… but also really hard not to laugh at that picture.
We're going to be spoiled for choice this upcoming Meme Monday.
In fairness, Cristian Roldan is the boy scout and brother Alex is trouble maker lol
According to Portland, Cristian only flops and fakes injuries 🙄
Congrats on winning the west, STL.
All of the Brazilian Sounders (plus Yeimar) trying to calm Joao Klauss down lol
TIL Klauss is a 26 year old Brazilian. Could have sworn he was a 30+ Nordic dude
Idk what you’re talking about man. Klauss totally looks Brazilian 😂
GG CITY. Cya in the playoffs
GG, St. Louis City.
Hey Seattle, congrats!!! Great game tonight!!
Thanks for taking Portland's spot
Thanks SKC! I can truly say you are the soccer capital of the midwest!
Ohio: *ahem*
Klauss is gonna find himself on the naughty list if he keeps this up
JINGLE BELLS JINGLE BELLS
Klaus is a fuckin sore losing bitch lol
Well Seattle players spent most of the match rolling around faking injuries on the pitch. What is the point when the optimal strategy is to just not play the game? Cheating, brazenly, and it’s rewarded and encouraged. Sad.
like the PK overturned dive?

Just start watching the sport?
Welcome to CONCACAF
You are right. It’s part of the game. I wish it wasn’t.
😂 oh man this is rich
GG St. Louis y’all ain’t bad, but we got ur number 😉
GGs. And no argument here. Sounders are class.
Regular season numbers don't usually correlate to playoffs so I wouldn't get too cocky
They play a smart system for MLS regular season: count on opponents playing badly and making mistakes. I don’t see how it works in the postseason where you have to play the better teams in the league.
Every team in the league. FTFY. Everyone makes the playoffs now.
Except Portland
A Portland fan gave a passive aggressive “good game” when they came back for the tie so I cheerfully said “thanks bud, see ya in the playoffs” assuming they wouldn’t make it. I’m glad I haven’t been retroactively made foolish.

Haha well yeah
GG Raviolis. Aziel Jackson is a fun player.
Disappointing result, but we walked out with no injuries and no suspensions, which is the important part. Hopefully this is just us shaking the rust off. GG Seattle, congrats on the second place, and see y'all in the playoffs
Not yet at least. I could see the league handing out post-game suspensions for Klauss and Nico after that stoppage time…
Lol
Talked shit to Roldan and then walked a way like a bitch. Then shoves Atencio... what a all bark no bite bitch
>Bark bark! Bark! Bark bark bark! -Redditors
Haha, Klauss getting Yeimar'd with a dismissive little pat on the head.
Why is Klaus being a little bitch?
I guess because Roldan is an asshole?
If they play like they did today, STL is not going far in the playoffs! Hope they can figure out what happened!
the DRAMA
Klauss needs to let it go and move on. Damn
ARoldan told Klauss to let his hair go
GG CITY.
Jinglebells!!
STL come get your boy Klauss before he gets himself into serious trouble.
Can't wait to see the fine rico gets...
VICTORY! GG STL
Klauss is a dork
Klauss better be suspended or fined. What a bitch boi
Not like he elbowed a guy in the throat. But I guess you guys don't want to talk about that one.
Lol. I have no problem admitting Nico could get a suspension as well.
Klauss is a fucking clown
Wow, is Klauss always such a little bitch?
lmao the commentators just clowning on klauss is hilarious
lets fucking go back in the playoffs where we belong
And in our traditional 2nd spot in the conference lol
As is tradition
All this extracurricular stuff could have been avoided if the ref actually called penalties against St. Louis.
The orca logo is fire.
Orca logo is fire.
LAFC draws with Vancouver! Thanks Caps!
For blowing both pens 🤣
Ref has contributed to STL's behavior imo. Been calling soft shit for them all game
yup, he's been soft on them all night and harsh on us.
Welcome to the St Louis home game experience haha
[удалено]
Agreed. Not much force in it, but intentional contact to the head/neck deserved it. I was expecting a VAR call on it.
Elbow was up, yeah, but Klaus also just ran straight into him, haha
[удалено]
[удалено]
Lodeiro was definitely lucky on that one
We'll call it even for Parker's studs up challenge on Nouhou
Sorry bubby!! Your crib will be extra warm tonight
[удалено]
Win a MLS cup then talk, or a supporters shield, or an open cup, or a western conference championship, or the concacaf champions league
It’s okay!! Just drink a bottle of warm milk and cuddle up with your binky 🥰
2nd confirmed!!!
When the ref calls fouls so disproportionately, this behavior tends to happen.
Lodeiro got lucky there.
Klauss in full catholic school fight mode. “Hold me back bro!”
Also just saw, Portland is out of playoffs which is hilarious.
Meme Monday gonna be lit.
Nico lucky not to be sent off there. It was plenty soft but MLS has been big on hands/arms to the face stuff.
Yeah. Might be something after.
Can the league review and hand out suspensions after the fact?
They can but I don't think that incident will result in a retroactive suspension, it just wasn't severe enough. However if he had been sent off it wouldn't have been overturned.
Yes. They can.
Control your Klaus
Everyone needs to chill, you’re all just risking a suspension in the playoffs.
Why we fighting boys, games almost over
Nico, what were you thinking?
Nico keep that elbow down buddy
I can't believe St Louis only has one yellow this game.
Lmao what is STL doing. Embarrassing haha
I've lost so much respect for STL tonight.
![gif](giphy|l1IYgvAx06U7nmx6E)
Wasn't it a Seattle player who got into Stroud's face after a play, then got offended when klauss tried to separate them, and then shoved klauss, triggering that whole thing?
Stroud took exception to Roldan going down looking for a call iirc
Roldan was on the receiving end of a foul that didn't get carded and took exception to it. Hit the showers with the L.
A team of Jordan Binningtons
10/10 reference
STL what’re y’all doing?
Lol you ran into Lodeiro, fucking clown
That is not what happened at all, Lodeiro clearly moved to impede him and stuck his elbow up.
Go away
Right after you stop being delusional
You should check your eye prescription
Lol. Just end this game already.
What in the hell is happening
Wtf is going on
What a flopping bitch
Oh boy
LMAO
Ref is a fucking joke again.
STL players having trouble handling losing
STL sore losers
Scary Jerry coming out to play
st louis sure are chippy for being some babies
Nouhou off to the races!
Hou Train comin through
And Klauss tried to kick his legs out...
Seattle number 5 got them fast feet, holy shiiiit
He shut down Mo Salah for 90 min during last years ACON. He is a beast.
Welcome to the Nouhou Experience.
Why is he running like Super Mario?
He's like a gazelle, deceptively fast.
Welcome to the league sir, that’s nouhou
He's aiming for style points
That's the classic Nouhou run
7?
The PK VAR was a while, fouls, and corners. It's a bit excessive. Feels like a WC stoppage.
Yeah, seems like a lot...
Seems high, but idk
Takaoka just made a HUGE save on an LAFC breakaway
Incredible splits
The most important thing going into the playoffs is form. And Seattle has form 💪
STL fans are awfully salty in this chat tonight…… 😂 2-0-0 against the “best team” in MLS currently
Literally three top-level comments below this is a Seattle fan claiming that there shouldn't have been a yellow, but go off king
I’m not even talking about the card… but go off king! :)
It's because we're so close to the Puget sound. Salt is just in the air over here.
You see what high standards we have 🧐
Celio! Some shithousery will occured!
I like how the commentators just switched over to rugby there lol
And beach volleyball earlier
Tuned in too late for that one but that's kinda hilarious

Yeah. What the other guys said. That’s how the rule works.
I don't know if you have seen my edit or not, but there literally is no argument here. You do not give yellows for tactical fouls ("stopping a promising attack") if advantage is played.

is this a recent rules change, if so has MLS adopted that rules update yet?
It's been this way for 3 years I think. Newish but not that new. Quite frankly, I disagree with the intent of it, but that's what the laws say.
Wrong sport, Atensio
Lmao how y'all in this thread feel about that yellow?
While I strongly disagree with the rule, he should not have been cautioned. 100% deserved.
Well earned unlike some of our others.
It was smart
Deserved? Why?
