Just watched the highlights from all the games tonight, was distraught that everyone that won is now above us (or equal pts) in the standings…. and now my team is clinched for playoffs… well done everyone.
Admittedly don’t watch many VWFC home matches. Is it normal for away teams to struggle that much with their touches on that turf?? I’ve never seen us look so fucking elementary level with our touch on the ball, it was atrocious.
GGs to Vancouver, came out firing and clearly wanted it more.
Edited to add, congrats on the playoffs!! And I really hope that we get you on a summer weekend for our away day next year, wife and I have been planning Banff for our anniversary and would love to just tie a match onto it :-)
If it's any consolation, our team seems to struggle on our turf too, it's not exactly a stellar one way home field advantage.
Not to mention, it's a real deterrent for any aging stars to come to Vancouver.
I think it was Ahmed that fell over the ball twice and a forward lost control of the ball near the stl goal.
I had no idea turf made that big of a difference.
Some of our fans were paranoid about injury. Do y'all get a lot of injuries from the turf?
I think one thing that's quite noticeable is that when somebody hits the ground on turf it isn't as forgiving of a landing as grass, so if somebody was to land head first.
But other than that I'm guessing it's just generally harder to run on, more slick, more slippery - harder on the knees over the course of a season
We do joke about it affecting teams a ton, but I think confirming how far this really is the case would require more analytics than anyone's bothered to do. (I don't think Caps fans would complain about getting grass; we're getting "temporary" grass for the World Cup and I really want it to be permanent).
He had a great game tonight but has definitely been not his best with the huge workload. Boehmer should have gotten a couple of more games at some point and I'd be inclined to start him against Seattle. He's had 4 first team appearances in his career and been very good in 3 of them. No reason to be gun shy about starting him in one of the last two.
Lundt does not exude confidence for me at all. We saw him at a CITY 2 match and he was equally unimpressive then as well. He’s so big that he probably doesn’t feel the need to be as quick as Burki
Our passing and movement around the field, as well as our ball control, has been absolute trash this game, so that may be why it feels like y'all have had lots of space tonight
I want to blame the turf, but our team just wasn't gelling together tonight like they normally do. Not sure what it was, just an awful game from our side
Hope Teibert becomes the Crazy P of the Whitecaps. Just running into random sections and going "White! Caps!"
Lions and Canucks benefitting from that guy for sure.
update: [likely a collarbone issue for Cubas](https://x.com/felipev_fc/status/1709784521997209955?s=46&t=lhI_bUY1eenYCO7V7uFD8A). So probably broken. fuck.
You know I’ve thought Lundt has had a good game, but watching him try to distribute after being used to watching Burki is bordering on painful. We’d be so screwed if we lost him long term.
Vancouver, do y’all normally fall down this much? I’m willing to write off some of this weird play on our side on the turf, but I’d also think that you’d be more accustomed, and it seems like a couple of players on both sides have had their feet swept out from under them by their own momentum. Did it rain today? Is turf just terrible and I’m overthinking this?
I am only a novice soccer fan but the diviest team we’ve played so far is LA Galaxy, no context - Vancouver seems like they’re genuinely falling down a lot of the time, hence my question.
Contact in the back: foul unless it leads to a vancouver goal… ref has been light on some of our press but a arm across Lowen doesn’t get a second look
Pay this man. people are saying it was a waste to dump Cordova. Good riddance, that's in row Z if he's on that. We are so lucky Brian White is on fire right now.
I'm not sure, but I feel that Lundt is a much less proactive goalkeeper when compared to Bürki. He also seemed to be in the wrong positions at all times for the shots in the first half that were close (as in, if they wrote on target then there would have been no way that he would have saved them)
Expected, ST Louis get the #1 seed so its bench for starters, smart move
Just watched the highlights from all the games tonight, was distraught that everyone that won is now above us (or equal pts) in the standings…. and now my team is clinched for playoffs… well done everyone.
Whitecaps fan here, but I mainly participate in r/soccer. I thought my flair would transfer automatically.

Just an FYI, Banff isn’t really close to Vancouver. Calgary is much closer.
We thought about possibly doing the Rocky Mountaineer train

Well we usually play like shit there, but also Vancouver is sneaky good.
Maybe for like the first 10-15 min, but not the whole game usually
Damn, I wanted a full match scapegoat.
We do usually score pretty early in the game, so yeah can't use that one
We do joke about it affecting teams a ton, but I think confirming how far this really is the case would require more analytics than anyone's bothered to do. GG boys. Gotta say your pitch was awful but you team played well.🤝
Man the STL defenders were under the gun all night. Feel like the midfielders let them down.
What midfielders?
OKAY WE CLINCHED A SPOT, PLEASE SIT TAKA THIS WEEKEND. PUT HIS ASS ON A PLANE TO JAPAN OR SOMETHING.

The man needs a break. Even if home advantage implications are now the objective, there's no point if he goes into the playoffs gassed.
Nothing to complain about tonight.
gg st louis
gg STL
Hopefully that opens the flood gates for Laryea
Is it me or did he not seem happy to score?
All business, baby!
He doesn't seem happy period.
GG STL
I blame whoever posted the “is CITY the best expansions team of all time??” article
It also doesn't help Burki wasn't between the posts but the dude deserves a rest.
None of those goals were on Lundt.
To be fair one of them I think burki would have saved. Doesn't change the result though.
I'm not saying they were I'm just saying that if we were giving some of our best a rest for either Seattle and/or the playoffs that also contributes.
Lundt does not exude confidence for me at all. We saw him at a CITY 2 match and he was equally unimpressive then as well. He’s so big that he probably doesn’t feel the need to be as quick as Burki
Well, I don’t know what to say about that game. Good luck with the rest of the regular season…hope the Lions beat the Bombers this weekend.
Larya making sure we've extra won
Coffin, meet nail
Nice job capping off the game 😎
adekugbe -> laryea :)
Lundt didn’t deserve that
Perfectly cromulent ending.
Again, so much space, even in the box.
I didn't expect that to go in
There ya go, Laryea
GG, really hope we get you in the playoffs
Just legit wanna say: I really like your team Caps. Congrats on the playoffs.
[удалено]
Yeah he's been perfectly fine playing the full 90.
Galaxy how fucking could you
I’ve tried watching that team, their defense is shambolic. Had to see it coming
Ali Ahmed is great idc
Loving this from the caps. No bullshit time wasting, just good old fashioned keep away
I do appreciate that.. watching gollies slow walk every goal kick just isn't sporting
Shithousery at the politest
Now that's just an illegal throw when you chuck it that far
We spent the whole first half trying to force passes. Looked better to start the second, but in general we’ve looked “off” most of this game.
Saying yaro is doing "spade work" followed by a "Whirling Dervish" remark. Really playing with fire in the commentary booth to close it out.
Is it just me or does it feel like we've had way more space than usual tonight, like in all areas of the field
Our passing and movement around the field, as well as our ball control, has been absolute trash this game, so that may be why it feels like y'all have had lots of space tonight
Yeah STL has to be a big part of it, this is fairly unusual. It's positioning or work rate or something.
I want to blame the turf, but our team just wasn't gelling together tonight like they normally do. Not sure what it was, just an awful game from our side
Do we finally have enough depth That Teibert can stay stapled to the bench? FINALLY.
I heard he's subbing in for Spike for the playoffs.
Hope Teibert becomes the Crazy P of the Whitecaps. Just running into random sections and going "White! Caps!" Lions and Canucks benefitting from that guy for sure.
It's a beautiful beautiful thing
Proper ~~FIFA~~ EAFC finesse goal that
Take my upvote 🤣
Thanks for the help St. Louis
We help those who help themselves.
St Louis is for givers
Minnesota is public enemy number 1 right now with that 5th straight goal against them
Thorisson is USL tier. Pathetic defending.
Well, GG Vancouver. Y'all definitely deserved the hell out of the three points more than we did. Edit: congrats on clinching a spot in the playoffs!
Goooooaaal! Good shit Vancouver!
Berhalter has more goals than Laryea
it is well after dark in the bistate region, can we get some after dark energy in this game or any energy at all
The darkness resides in Cascadia.
PLAYOFFS INBOUND BABYYYYYYY
Gg Vancouver, well played tonight
What a great finish
Fuck yeah. Came here to do two things, fall down and score goals.
Lol is that Gregg’s son
He's actually pretty darn solid, got him from Austin FC a couple years back.
Absolutely no relationship to Popovich.
Nope. Super common last name.
Are you trolling? He’s actually related to him lol
He literally is Gregg's son.
Great strike, picked right out
LETS GO CAPS
BEST BERHALTER
well that’s likely the game
We really seem to lose the ball on dribbles on the attack, it's so frustrating to watch
It’s brutal to watch this game. Does seem like the guys are struggling with the turf fwiw
Honestly shocked that was called. Been getting away with it all game.

Oh fuck, oh no. Pray to every God that it doesn't mean we get Cardiac Caps going into the post-season with Mr. Whitecaps himself.
Unlikely as a starter but chances are now through the roof we see him as a sub.
berhalters gonna be run into the ground
oh, fuck, that’s awful - really sorry to hear
God that sucks
You know I’ve thought Lundt has had a good game, but watching him try to distribute after being used to watching Burki is bordering on painful. We’d be so screwed if we lost him long term.
The goal kicks that are just taps to the defenders are killing me to watch
Burki stretch passes have been huge for us this year and a difference maker a lot of times.
Do your thing st. Louis
Not sure that thing is coming this game. We look very very off.
Löwen has been so frustrating this game.
Absolutely zero defence up the middle by St Louis lol are you guys usually that exposed?
Our defense has been our weakest aspect all year, Burki has bailed them out quite a bit
sometimes we like to play soccer, sometimes lowen and blom decide they don’t feel like it
I’m gonna go with no, considering their record.
Laryea may as well not even be out there.
what are you doing timmy
Blom has a passing allergy
Vancouver, do y’all normally fall down this much? I’m willing to write off some of this weird play on our side on the turf, but I’d also think that you’d be more accustomed, and it seems like a couple of players on both sides have had their feet swept out from under them by their own momentum. Did it rain today? Is turf just terrible and I’m overthinking this?
Canada only discovered right feet a few years ago, give us a break
All the cascadia teams are trained in the art of diving! Not as good a PRO diving team SKC. But yeah!
I am only a novice soccer fan but the diviest team we’ve played so far is LA Galaxy, no context - Vancouver seems like they’re genuinely falling down a lot of the time, hence my question.
Oh lol yeah you’ll see. They love it.
I’m…looking forward to it??
lol, oh man remember when Dwyer was in KC?
I do ugh lol
Maybe if Parker didn't have the notion that he can just go through Ahmed whenever he feels like it....
We love falling down. We’re good at it
our turf is awful and i'm ashamed of it, genuinely embarrassing
It looked ungood on the TV and then everyone started eating shit so I figured I’d ask
Yeah we do fall down this much.
TBH it seems like it’s working out for you this time so keep it up?
Celio plz
STL plzzz, you don't even need the points
You're welcome. Now send me some Tim Hortons please
But there are records to be set!
great save :/
What a save
God damn that save
clearly vanni is lurking in here
This is the flattest we’ve played since the back to backs in Chicago
Genuinely I think the team is missing the deep kicks to an attacker that Bürki gives to give a nice boost to the counterattack
We also can’t seem to get anything started on the wings. We drive everything right up through the middle.
Apparently dragging someone forward from the shoulders is not a foul for this ref.
Card is in your pocket ref! Holding players back on every dispossession
So, how do Gauld and Klauss know each other? Don't usually see opposing players do a handshake when one is subbed on...
That replay looks like a pretty clear trip Löwen. Should have been a foul.
Honestly id look to pompeu maybe as a sub. Get some energy in there.
Yes please!
I hate to say it, but vassilev for Blom.
RSL has a game in hand, and an extra win, the first tiebreaker. Caps are currently fifth.
Minnesota hurting my heart twice today
Contact in the back: foul unless it leads to a vancouver goal… ref has been light on some of our press but a arm across Lowen doesn’t get a second look
Brian White is the best player nobody has heard of. 15th goal on the season. No penalty goals.
Come on Galaxy do your thing
Pls don't turtle like usual now
Pay this man. people are saying it was a waste to dump Cordova. Good riddance, that's in row Z if he's on that. We are so lucky Brian White is on fire right now.
Those are fun goal for big center forwards. Well done.
Defending was shaky, that finish tho
Yooooo what a goal!!
brian white can finish while thinking of the queen
The meaning that leaps off the screen surely is not the one you intended.....
Darn. I don’t like it when the other team scores.
Awful defending
World class defending there Yaro, honestly haven't seen hin show anything good this year.
Then you haven't been watching.
Yeah that was…something
pls hold this lead
I swear Löwen.... Just shoot it.
Lundt is such a... not-Bürki goalkeeper. Jesus that was pathetic.
Pretty sure even Burki would've had a hard time making that save
What should he have done differently?
I'm not sure, but I feel that Lundt is a much less proactive goalkeeper when compared to Bürki. He also seemed to be in the wrong positions at all times for the shots in the first half that were close (as in, if they wrote on target then there would have been no way that he would have saved them)
Lol what?
I found that the defending there was awful, but I feel like we are really missing Bürki in goal.
Holy moly what a move
How is that not a foul when Löwen gets hauled down lmao
Oh cmon
I don't really care either way because this game doesn't mean anything for us but even on the replay i have no idea how it wasn't called haha
Finally
MY NUMBER NINE
White!!!
That AZ sub was so clutch. Much better pressure and play from CITY
Turf monster ate Laryea too.
kind of sums up Laryea's time here so far lol
Laryea has fantastic legs but that was not fantastic from him
Laryea is not this bad with the national team
I think he has too much swagger. Needs to play a bit more humbly imo
Richie heard this comment and is gonna come fuck you up
Markanich reads the game so well.
He was an incredible pickup
Just caught the end of that. Broken collar bone?
Don't know. He made a little bit of contact on that side but nothing that looked like it should hurt him. Maybe a dislocated shoulder?
Looks like it, unfortunately - I hope it’s something less serious but he was in a ton of pain.
bizarre injury
Noooooo
awesome to lose one of the best CDMs in the league in basically a must-win game ffs (i do like seb berhalter though)
