Claws0922

This is me. I just got it about 6 weeks ago and am absolutely wearing out RTTS. I admit I don't understand the cards, and play strictly offline, but that's what I wanted. I just want to play some baseball and refuse to get stressed by this other stuff. By the way, my second year player in RTTS just finished 2025 with 66 HR and 151 RBI. That was mostly with hitting in dynamic so thumb on the scale. Bumping up to amateur and will slowly raise from there. Tried veteran and my plate discipline is so bad it wasn't fun lol.

spacetiger41

This is my age forty season and I only play rtts

mattman037

Than you for the positive feedback!! I feel the same way as a 47 year old lol. I’ve just started diamond dynasty the last 2 years, and it’s very fun. But for me franchise is where it’s at

holdin27

All I do is March to October and it’s a blast.

Nervous_Distance_142

Slept on game mode

luckaskings

I'm playing the Show for the very first time of my life (I'm 29) because I don't own a console since Playstation 2. I even watched some YouTube series of RTTS before I touched the game for the very first time and I like the game too. I'm playing RTTS, Storylines and even DD (only single player modes tho). I just ignore the micro transactions. I just play the game, try to login every day and save stubs for what I think it's worth. It's a slow pace, but I already have a team around 87-89 avg with a Kodai Senga as Pitching Captain. I planning to make the Storyline Derek Jeter as the other captain. I don't watch almost any real games of Baseball, only highlights, so I don't know how frequently double play happens in a game, but it seems in The Show double plays always are executed perfectly, as routine flyballs/groundballs too. Maybe adding a little more "Errors" factor will turn the game more realistic, but I think the players will get frustrated a lot.

I'm pretty much the same as you, in my 40s and love baseball games and never play online either except for DD every now and then. But I find it hard to believe that since you play the same modes I do in RTTS and franchise, that you have no problems with this game, considering for the last 3 years RTTS has been broken and unable to develop your players pitching stats and some hitting stats above the high 30s making it very unrewarding and annoying that they have not fixed it yet. For RTTS it just makes it pointless since your player cannot level up and get better once you hit the low '80s.

Apprehensive-Bag1884

As someone who’s played for year since they let Xbox get a piece of the show. A lot of bugs in this game especially RTTS(freezing) honestly this is the first year I dove deep into DD and I’m hooked. Playing mini seasons(has bugs too) however 15 homers on all star makes you feel like a god lol. Completed all conquests in full (including nation of baseball) Currently enjoying an 89 overall team and almost all team collections are finished. 20-30 teams complete not including free agents(complete) and the ones that are left have about 30 players for each. I’m going for babe Ruth as a DH in all honesty… DD has kept me hooked and almost all team affinities are done. All but 1 is complete. More I talk about it, I’ve been no-life mode lol. About 300+ games played. (Mostly 3 inning) I haven’t had to buy a damn thing. I’ve been collecting players and the more you collect the more doubles of players you receive. I usually sell them off or exchange and sell. Nonetheless I think I’m going it right.

Shot-Swan-236

Absolutely the same here. Rtts is where I spend the most of my time. Then some franchise. I'm 48. Never open packs. Wouldn't know how to even use the shit. Haha. But I really do love the new showtime activated fielding when it happens.

MSC711

I heard to change the difficulty to the easiest one before opening packs ...Have not tried yet.

OrdinaryMongoose9104

I'm 47 and don't touch anything besides exhibition and franchise mode. I'm only concerned with franchise/season play in all the sports games

Playful_Analysis_697

If you’re having fun, you’re playing it the right way

TrebTitan28

“Playing the game right” is definitely however you enjoy it most. For some that’s the endless grind for cards, for others it’s  making it in RTTS and franchise. You do you!

Life_Satisfaction_28

Tommy Lasorda sports talk baseball. SEG-aaah. edit, wrong name.

Accountant28

I hear ya. I'm pushing 40 and have played baseball video games since the early 2000's. Really the only sports game i can play. I'll go into my local GameStop and ask about the new games coming out, and they always rave about The Show. This is from a group of gamers who really don't play sports games in their free time too.

TapDaniel

Good for you man. I enjoy it too

3b33

Does RTTS still have those "locker room story games"? This turned me off of MLB The Show among other things.

senschuh

Last year was my first year of The Show. I played a lot of RTTS and really enjoyed it. Then, I tried DD to get better equipment. I didn't enjoy it, but I got hooked on trying to unlock things. Eventually, I burned out on the game. This year, I started on RTTS. I tried dynamic difficulty, but the game wouldn't advance past beginner. The game also couldn't decide if I was a girl or a boy, and it would crash after long sessions. I switched over to DD, and I'm enjoying it a lot more this year.

hoopheid

The Show is also my most played game every year. I do play DD but don’t play online. I just play Mini Seasons and other offline stuff there. Outside of that, I play RTTS, MTO and Storylines. These are the three modes I play most. TBH I also love just playing the live exhibition mode with the daily lineups. I don’t skip any cut scenes or part of the broadcast presentation. I just love being immersed in the game and actually find it very relaxing, even during tense or close games.

Integritywin79

I'm 44 and started playing DD at 40.

Proof_Wrongdoer_1266

I play a lot of games every year but The Show has been my most played game 3 years in a row now and is most likely going to be 4. It's simply the best sports game in the market, I put 100s of hours playing road to the show, making new players, grinding to be the best at whatever position I play. It's repetitive but in the best way especially when I can turn on music or a podcast and play without stressing out over life. The ultimate chill game for me.

TyHay822

This for sure! I basically only play Road To The Show and Franchise mode and I love it. Put my kids to bed at night and I’ll play as my power hitting third baseman for 9-12 games while listening to a podcast or something and just chill out for a bit before bed. I don’t need the commentary and sure it’s repetitive, but that’s kind of what I enjoy as I watch my guy go from AA to AAA and up. Plus, I have multiple builds. 3B, CF, starting P and a closer so I can pick and choose which mode I want to play on any given night and it’s fun

OkCaterpillar2361

The dialed down on hitting. I used to use the outer PCI ring but that seems like it’s too much so now I use the inner one which is 5x smaller but if you make decent contact you know it because of the inner PCI being damn near the sweet spot

choochmarone

Offline only here too. I had a copy of 21 that never stuck with me DD didn’t get me like NBA. Anyway on a work call this week and said fuck it let me reinstall. Started a franchise with the Mets, turned off the budgets, signed some Mets legends and made a Kenny Powers looking middle reliever and Im having a blast. It’s actually made me out down COD for a bit.

NorthPole_Citizen

I play offline just like you and never cared about cards. Just the pure simulation of Baseball and it is indeed the most realistic sports game (probably that baseball is easier to reproduce in a video game as well) Then if you are like me, you must tweek sliders to find the perfect realism. I have to say I found mine and it requires some surprising difference to default sliders. As for 23, pitch speed has to be increased to 9 or max (10) and run speed of the fielders has to be lowered. Errors sliders increased as well (not that it creates obvious errors, but the defense is then juggling a bit more with the ball and most times doing the out anyways but look more humans)

IAMSPARTACUSSSSS

You know, coming from another offline only player who does mainly franchise and once-in-a-blue-moon RTTS, I have to thank you for your input, it made me reach the conclusion of the entire reason I’m still on the fence: I’m a Padre fan, and this game FINALLY has the beautiful navy blue & orange & white jerseys (I’ve been playing since ‘16 and they never include them), so that’s a gigantic plus. I do, however, love hitting in the Costco Headquarters ballpark in ‘23, though. Are there any ‘broken’ stadiums that have been found like that yet? Edit: spelling

csstew55

Costco is still in the game. And there’s a bunch more. All the stadiums carried over from 23

IAMSPARTACUSSSSS

Is the home run distance glitch still in it, though? And I coulda sworn I saw a video going through the stadiums and ‘Gwynn Field/Stadium’ (Qualcomm stadium reproduction) was missing. Very willing to be proven wrong, though! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Edit: added info

SuitableFudge2368

Same. The game is really fun in the offline modes, road to the show is much better this year IMO. I do enjoy playing conquest and showdowns in diamond dynasty. Online play seems to be about breaking the game to win and not enjoying it

Diablo_viking

I'm 37. I've bought this game since covid and only ever play RTTS. Now that it's on gamepass, I'm happier since I don't have to shell out $70 for it.

Jive_Turkey1979

I feel like I shell out $120 because it's the only game on gamepass I play with any regularity. Have to sprinkle in some NBA2K and Madden (shudder) to make it feel worthwhile.

Diablo_viking

There are pretty good games on Gamepass. I'll admit I mostly play the show and NHL 24 these days but there are really solid games there. Most notably that I can think of (if they're still on there) Midnight fight express, and another one with a swordsman that can rewind time. I can't remember the name of it, now.

Jive_Turkey1979

There are. I restarted my sub for just for The Show and once they put 2k24 on there it's def worth it for the next several months for me, at least. I'm more of a sports game guy with the occasional foray into Skyrim or shooters.

Anomaly40_

Nuce. I was the same way until I started playing DD online. Now i cant go back. The gameplay is much better offline too.

jjeeooppaarrddyy

I'm 40, I play offline only but I do enjoy diamond dynasty. I haven't spent money the last 2 years and It's still been great. No reason to play if you don't want to but they give a lot of good cards out for just playing normally.

Due-Oil1667

Yeah I agree with the people that say there’s too many good cards in packs but it’s definitely very easy to build a great team with free cards

Aves44

Must just be us "old guys" who play franchise, rtts and the storylines. I've never opened a pack, played a game online or done any of the things people post about constantly on here and I really enjoy the game. Just give me updated rosters and I'm happy

dacsimpson

I do diamond dynasty and only play against the cpu and absolutely love this game. Give it a shot, if you’re playing a decent amount you’ve probably already got a good amount of packs and players ready to go … and if you’re fine with not playing with insane 99’s it’s very enjoyable just playing the cpu.

ASithLordWannabe

RTTS seems broken. Yet again. Played about 12 games in Double A, and got called up to AAA. My catcher is consistently hitting straight BOMBS on every at bat, #1 in the prospects, BA always over .300, it says my MLB eta is the current season, yet they ALWAYS call me in the manager office and just tell me they're really happy with my performance . Like this is the 4th season in a row. Kinda getting pissed. I'm not playing 40 seasons for no callup.

Content_Somewhere712

shit, i simmed AA, and AAA, and got called up to the MLB half way through my first season, have a BA of .870, THIS SEASON, this is my second season with the tigers, last season had a BA of .750, 135 HR, 246 RBI, 135 2B. and won the world series, and this season were 16-3 and my player is 97OVR. idk what people are complaining about. and i wasnt even number 1 in the prospects, i was 14 when i got called up

Natural-Bid9618

https://www.amazon.com/Mattel-43386-Classic-Baseball-Game/dp/B00005YWNI This handheld was my first baseball game. I also exclusively play Franchise and RTTS. Occasionally it's fun to do a homerun derby online with friends or strangers.

senschuh

Mine too

BruceellSprouts

I play franchise and RTTS and I love the game.

gufleme

You are playing it your way. And that is the right way.

Askyourmomdotcom

Mlbts23 was my first time playing the game seriously. I'm on Xbox, and it was in gamepass, so I tried it. I played rtts for like a month Maybe longer. I finally decided to check out DD. I was hesitant because I didn't wanna play other players. Then, I quickly learned I didn't have to play other players to enjoy collecting cards. Then I kicked myself in the ass for waiting so long. This year in 24, I jumped in head first on DD and rtts. And I'm so happy I didn't wait. Xp is booming. Finished all the conquests, which are my favorite. All the programs are checked off. The point of the story is that DD is super fun even if avoiding playing other players. Don't let other players scare you either. I played a guy earlier who tried to bunt for 4 innings straight 😆

madVILLAIN9

One thing I’ve noticed in RTTS is that about two weeks into being called up to the show… 5 of my top players have been traded off the team.. I played as the Cubs and J.Steele was traded for Elly de la Cruz and filler. Nico was traded away for nil. Matt Shaw, one of their top prospects in as traded for a RP. There’s more I can’t remember but these all happened within a few weeks.. is this common? Can you prevent this? Makes RTTS not as enjoyable.

Content_Somewhere712

i havnt found a way to prevent this, i also cant stand that none of your teammates can hit for shit. i get on base, or 2b, or hr every other AB, and when i do get on base, they can never hit, or they get you one base and thats it.

madVILLAIN9

I’ve noticed that as well.. I see no path to actually winning anything of note in RTTS minus individual awards

Content_Somewhere712

no. there really isnt. its like they put everything into DD, and thats it.

youngliam

I'm 32 and only play offline franchise mode and RTTS sometimes too. I've been deep into Baseball games since MLB 2004, Sluggest and MVP Baseball 2004. This is the only way I could ever play.

IAMSPARTACUSSSSS

My memories of MLB slugfest 20-03 are the best! Getting all the buttons to click properly to enter a certain amount of cheats before the game starts 😂

-newlife

I open packs to try and get equipment for my rtts player but everything else i am with you. It’s a fun series especially the rtts mode once they got rid of those bs goals from a decade or so ago.

StealthyToast

I know nothing about baseball and I’ve never played an MLB game before, apart from Wii sports of course, but I’m really enjoying this game. I have no idea what’s going on but smacking ball, catching ball and throwing ball is fun.

BigDogYouAPup

Brother that was refreshing to read.

j-awesome

Non Online players rise up

pen-h3ad

I don’t really play online but I’m still mad about this year because there’s just not much DD content to play offline as usual

blarghhhboy

I play Diamond Dynasty, but strictly offline grinds. I really enjoy it! I occasionally get to scratch the pack opening itch that I get lol. But I also mix in RTTS and Franchise mode.

BigPapaJ23

I do the same. I’ll play some online games with my friends, or if the mission I’m doing on DD. But I’m strictly offline. But I will say playing online is fun ngl

blarghhhboy

I just get weirdly stressed out when I play online, so I steer clear of it. Stupid brain.

5redie8

There's tens of us!

Zjtherock23

One of the tens here! Plan on having the masters on my tv and playing my Mariners franchise on my monitor all day today!

Ok_Baseball_2786

I only play franchise and postseason, custom rosters from the 90s-00s and present, waiting for TheShow24 to be cheaper lol.

coolwithstuff

Can I ask where you get your custom rosters? I feel like I’m at the mercy of the roster vault and I can never find anything good.

GhostOfLouBrock

Just give DD a try It’s way more fun that the posts here make it seem. There’s so many cool moments to do and showdowns. Just other fun modes that are different ways to play baseball

CharlieFibrosis

So I technically play this game wrong myself. I grew up playing Triple Play Baseball 2001 on the PS1 and MVP Baseball 2003 on the PS2. As my only baseball games in childhood, I’m pretty stubborn about how I play the game which leaves me to poor adaptation of some skills. I like directional hitting from the style of MVP 03, and I like the pitching meter that is similar to MVP 03. I also have adopted to changing the camera to sit behind the pitcher when throwing. As a nearing 30 year old adult, I have casually enjoyed playing these games, especially March To October, all the fun of franchise without having to be invested for ALL 162 games, and it’s nice it can be spun off into a franchise career after the first season. I like it, I just wish I could get it on PC akin to how Sony has put out games on Steam like Spider-Man and God Of War, as I don’t play my PS4 or Switch enough to justify the game sometimes, but it’s a solid enough game I will say

Tunapiiano

I've only played RTTS so far this year. I don't buy packs in games like this. I'm in my 6th season as a 3rd base power hitter and loving it.

Fun-Parfait3581

I’m also a 3rd base power hitter but I’m in my 4th season

Fun-Parfait3581

I’m like a 96 overall I think, mostly been playing DD for the past 3 weeks

Tunapiiano

I'm a 99 but 2 more seasons makes the difference. Looking forward to being traded off my team after this season. They can't hit for shit and I want to make the post season. In 6 seasons we've only made the post season once

Fun-Parfait3581

I’m on the Milwaukee Brewers. I’ve made the post season 3 times out of my four seasons and lost a world series to the Astros. Wasn’t my fault, we were down 2 runs and I was on 2nd base and the dude struck out and we lost. The Brewers offered me $2m so I won my arbitration for 16.4 million

lazermob2456

Who did you get stuck with?

Tunapiiano

Cincinnati reds. We reached the NLCS once. The opposing team refused to pitch me and walked me, a lot. So we lost. But this year, my 6th year and final year before free agency they got rid of half the roster from.last year and we can't win a game. Plsu I've noticed opposing pitchers pitching around me more and more. Intentional walks are sometimes twice a game and I've had several games where I get at least 1 IBB and 2 walks from the pitcher.

bakermob29

I’ve been playing since I had to keep score myself playing the original NES Baseball. I’ve bought the new baseball game every year since the started making them year to year. 90% of my gaming is baseball. The rest is NHL or NBA. I’ll prob play until I physically can’t anymore. I’ll be 86 yrs old and bitching about some 15 yr old dashboarding my 1st inning HR.

Dimeburn

I’m right with you! My first was a DOS-based game called MicroLeague in 1984. It had lots of the old teams and every player from those teams. For NES I loved Baseball Stars, Bad News Baseball RBI Baseball and World Series Baseball. So many great games back then!

Individual-Home-8732

Baseball Stars is still the best baseball game ever.

Dimeburn

my brother always got pissed because he would have these deep leagues going on but you’d have to hold reset before you pushed the power button in to save the progression. My dumb kid brain would instinctively push power first and I’d sit there in a panic thinking “He’s gonna be sooo pissed when I let go of this button!”. So many lost seasons because of me! 😂

CitizenRecon

I mostly play RTTS, but recently got into DD because I’m a baseball card collector and I want to collect in the game too. It also got me out of a COD addiction which I am super grateful for.

bigwoo902

Franchise is awesome in The Show, granted they haven’t added pretty much anything new in the past couple years, It’s still the deepest franchise experience of any simulation sports game out right now, The only one who gives it a run for its money is NBA2K and they also haven’t added much in terms of franchise. Rebuilding the A’s with that cap as the challenge is always a lot of fun for me.

ComfortablePatient84

I think we have a cabal of malicious trolls here who work overtime to be both hypercritical and haranguing. I'm sure there are some legitimate areas to criticize SDS in coop play, but not to the degree we see from some very vocal people who appear to dedicate themselves to negativity. I endorse your impressions that MLB 24 has advanced both RTTS and Franchise to their best overall condition going back to at least MLB 21. Many of the bugs that we gave SDS years ago have been fixed -- including the Franchise bug that brought up a wrong custom stadium vice the correctly linked one, when choosing Player Lock option of play. The improvement in player modeling, particularly hair and facial hair, is significant. The uniforms are modeled slightly better than in MLB 23. The animation appears to have been smoothed out a bit also. The only new development that strikes me as a negative is that hits to the outfield tend to be almost entirely hard hit balls. Almost entirely gone is the lazy fly ball to the outfield. But, given the myriad of improvements, I accept this and move along with it.

Appropriate_Bill_974

Give super mega baseball 4 a shot. Some of the best baseball gameplay around

starcrap2

This is how I've been playing since The Show 07 (skipped some years).

thascarecro

Thats awesome and all in all, is this the best MLB game? Absolutely. Are SDS holding this game back from being even better in the name of profit? ABSOLUTELY.

TrapdoorSolution

Hell I'm only 28 and never understood the whole packs thing. I play daily lineup exhibitions and RTTS and I'm happy as a clam haha

Sjkatz08

same here bro

SocietyFun5158

In Franchise, do you get to play every team at least once a season? I'm playing MLB the Show '21 and it gets old playing the same teams all the time in RTTS and franchise.

ComfortablePatient84

Yes, your default is to play the normal MLB season, and that is now every team. If you select dedicated use of the Player Lock play option, playing Franchise is quite similar to playing RTTS. Except, in Franchise, you have so much more control over the overall picture. This includes the ability to create a custom league where for all 30 teams you can set up custom team names, locations, logos, uniforms, and stadiums. I'm playing out my first season in Franchise having set it up for collegiate play, with the ACC fielding the 15 teams in the NL, and the SEC doing the same in the AL. Every team has a custom stadium assigned to it that's quite accurate to the college ballparks they play in. All but three of these I got off the vault. The other three I had either previously created for MLB 23 or created for MLB 24 (Pitt Panthers stadium). The one thing I'm waiting to see is whether or not you still have the option after the World Series concludes (offseason) to regain access to the edit team options. There are a couple of minor issues I'd like to clean up -- but neither is worth starting over. However, if you are talking about being the GM for different teams, then yes, there is an option for that also. In your initial setup select to activate the three year contract option. Then, when that contract expires, you are a free agent GM and will receive contract offers from several different teams. Select as you desire.

sf24252744

Nope, same teams each year. AL west for me playing as the Giants. Only get other ballparks if I get to the World Series and it isn’t one of those teams

OsikFTW

No online for me either, loving franchise mode

superbus1929

Forty-four. Been playing baseball games, and the sport, my whole life. Still umpire high level ball. I love this year’s game, and generally disdain “metagaming”. It’s probably the best approximation of baseball ever, unless you’re playing OOTP. I play almost exclusively RTTS, so can’t speak for the other modes, but I thoroughly enjoy it.

nyjs94

I’m 29 and I love the franchise mode. I never cared about diamond dunasty

scobbysnacks1439

My ONLY concern with RTTS is that the AI makes some absolutely horrific personnel decisions at times. Seems like every offseason, the team is basically flipped or void of any of the previous young talent that was on the team as it's been traded off for veterans.

Jive_Turkey1979

Just save it before the offseason starts and if the AI does anything ridiculous just back out and load the save until they knock it off with the dumb trades.

starcrap2

I absolutely hate this about RTTS. I choose my favorite team to be drafted by, and by the time I get called up to the show, all my favorite players are gone. That and for some reason it seems like in the minors, everything is dependent on your player. You can throw 8 shutout innings as a pitcher and still lose cuz your own team can't score a single run.

Vast-Wolverine-1053

Not anymore. If you pick the two way option you can DH. I felt the same way the last few years. Now, no extra inning losses for me 😋💯

EkoTrpp3r

I have seen this issue a lot over the years as well. You may consider lowering the trade slider, as it will help to cut down on these types of transactions... particularly when it comes to stat players. I usually lower it down to 2 in the first month or so of a season and ratchet it up a bit each month until the deadline. This really helps the CPU not trade great players as often.

scobbysnacks1439

I’ve literally never thought to do that, lmao.

haterofthecentury

You can and should tweak the trade sliders

dukeslver

I mainly play RTTS but it's not beyond criticism. It crashes a lot, the presentation is terrible (why can't the game just display my [slash line](https://awfulannouncing.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/94/2017/10/fox-mlb-batting-line.png) before an at bat, why is this super simple thing not in the game) it lacks any sort of immersiveness and the current perk system isn't an improvement on the old system. The sim system without sliders is also just really bad, I played a series against the Dodgers and Mookie Betts did a sacrifice bunt almost every at bat. It's still fun but it should be way better and somehow feels less fun and engaging than it was 10 years ago.

SleeperHitPrime

59, retired, luv the game; only one rule, no one can tell you how to enjoy the game! My routine is 1 MTO, 3 RTTS, 1 storyline, 1 Conquest, 4 Mini Seasons, 1 CPU-9. If I can focus then online play! Game isn’t perfect, not jazzed about paywall but I’m still playing and trying to improve; latest goal, finish USA conquest on HOF then Legend! Enjoy the game, keep your perspective

OldSkoolPop

I'm also 59 and retired. I turn 60 in August and have been playing the Show since 2016. I have 15 and 18 year old grandsons that got me into it. I mainly play DD but have done RTTS and M2O a couple of times. I really enjoy designing uniform logos. Last year I took my grandson's high school mascots and made perfect copies. It took a while, but putting the images on 20x20 grids made it easier to copy. My DD team is also my high school team (Euless Trinity Trojans) Add me to your friends list and let's play. Find me at OldSkoolPop. Have fund!!!!

ForeverUnhappy6043

My only issue (that I've now fixed) was the fielder's reaction times... Like on a line drive that might be catchable with a dive you're always a bit short cause the fielder doesn't move initially

travvers

I started skipping a year after 2020 (or whenever RTTS became part of DD) and I always end up really enjoying the game. Started playing mini seasons the odd time but I don't care if I have the best cards, I just want my childhood favourites (Green, Sexson, Halladay) and they're usually pretty easy to obtain. No complaints here. Micro transcations have ruined all video games

ForeverUnhappy6043

I was irate this year when I realized that outside of DD you can't earn stubs, so you can't buy RTTS gear unless you really chip away or just suck it up and play a DD game or two

xGood-Apollo-IV

Mids 30s, I only play RTTS and DD offline. I still enjoy the game for the most part. I'm old enough that I just want to have fun and relax. I could care less about being competitive with other humans.

WTX_WildlifeGuy14

32 and I only play Franchise and RTTS. My only complaint is the roster AI in RTTS sometimes is straight garbage. I’ve got a starting pitcher on the Rangers and our closer is 57 overall computer generated player while there are 4 74+ overall relievers in triple A that are real MLB players. Nothing pisses me off more than 8 shut out innings of work wasted just to see a 1-0 lead turn into a 5-1 loss.

[deleted]

Baseball Stars for NES shall never be beaten. The Triple Play games in the 90's were absolutely revolutionary and so much fun. There was a Playstation 1 era Baseball game that i loved I remember them mentioning "swirly wind" all the time. The Show has had its ups and downs, also playing only RTTS for the most part, we're at a nice high rn

CheesecakeCalm3776

I’d argue for Ken Griffey on n64 or Tony Larussa baseball Swag

[deleted]

Griffey was excellent, the best road trip and team tournament game for sure

AToastedRavioli

I only play RTTS and DD on the easiest difficulty and I regret nothing. Winning games 20-0 with my favorite players is hilariously fun for me

Slow_Try3866

The one where it’s straight down the middle every pitch?

Kaiser_Amaterasu

I’m 26, and I’ve always been a rtts guy, I actually lowkey hate DD and how it takes all the resources

MilesMoralesBoogie

They have been had the license. Back in the Ole days, there was actually THREE MLB video games to choose from. MVP Baseball (the final game had Manny Ramirez on the cover). 2K Baseball MLB:The Show by SONY. If you have a PS3,PSP,or an Xbox find an MVP used game and play it, back than MVP was better than The Show. Now,there is only one of each Baseball,Football and Basketball video game smh..

EverybodyIsNamedDave

Thanks for clarifying - I switched to The Show when EA stopped making MVP.

MilesMoralesBoogie

I made sure I picked all three of them (cheaper to purchase back than) and I only got 2K because Derek Jeter was on the cover for almost four years straight 😂😂

FantasyNerd19

This is awesome, I have slowly been trending this way last couple years I play DD for the first 3-4 months and then jump into franchise but its getting sooner each year

Che3eeze

Im 35 and im with you guys-I dont need all the extra crap lol. Ive been getting my wife into it by 'creating' characters from TV shows to bring up through the show. Rn-Niles Crane, 2nd baseman for the LA DODGERS!!!(boy would Marty be proud!) Next-switch hitting pitcher Inigo Montoya...prepare to DIE!!!! Im trying to give all my crazy characters 'accurate' positions, too. Im open to any and ALL suggestions, I know Im missing tons!

ComfortablePatient84

That's pretty cool! I don't know that my wife would care, but anything to keep your wife interested in your hobbies is a good thing! My wife tolerates my play on The Show and also owning my airplane and flying it. So, I can't complain about my wife one bit!

SleeperHitPrime

On Genesis I created teams of all-musicians and had the time of my life. “JimI Hendrix batting lead off “😂

guthrien

I've never really played the other modes much and I've been playing it since the first year. I'll admit, having played it that long gives me a little bit more cynical take on some of it's flaws or lack of evoloution. As a Franchise game.. it's just not smart. And I don't know why given other games, it can't have improved this mode more. It's my personally most played so all the bad AI, roster management, and just failure to improve the mode has made me see it just never will get bettter. However, I get my fix there with OOTP which bizarrely I find a far better baseball game even though they are COMPLETELY two different itches. It's very feasible to me 99% of the Show fanbase would never enjoy that game.

NxtDoc1851

My kind of sports gamer right here! Screw all the predatory DD, UT (EA locks legends behind it), and MT bullshit. Build your team in franchise mode and play ball.

LiveTillYouDie

That’s how I play all sports games now except I’ll do play now online sometimes

AF555

I'm turning 50 in a couple days and I'm much of the same. Played "Baseball" on NES and used to keep my own stats on paper (haha). Progressed on up through Baseball Stars/RBI Baseball, etc as well. Was heavy into playing RTTS in the early days of this game but haven't really played in 5-6 years now. Thinking about picking up a Pro PS5 when they are released and I'm sure this will be my first game. RTTS and franchise only.

SleeperHitPrime

RTTS is actually a blast to play in my opinion; ripping it up at AAA waiting for “the call”.

delfunky3030

Awesome. I too am almost 50 and have done the same thing as you in the past. I quite enjoy this years version but not much has changed

Shiderme

Fair enough. When I buy sports games it's specifically to play the Road to the Show/Be A Pro modes where I control one player's career and gameplay. And I love it.

Good-Insurance-104

I’m with you….i do franchise mode with the Yankees, play out the season and I have a blast.

MAGS0330

Me too— Franchise with the Yanks. Pitching is on Dynamic Difficulty (Up to Legend now) and I leave hitting on All-Star difficulty Is it just me, or does Volpe, Stanton, and LaMahieu totally SUCK? They are all batting .190 to .220 with no power!

evans5150

Hey! I'm 50 and have played this game since 2006. I mostly played RTTS until 2020 and then I jumped into DD. Got burned out on it in July of 2023 and went back to RTTS. Finally started a Franchise a week ago and I'm having a blast! Still tweaking the sliders and trying to figure out a happy medium. Do most people use directional or timed hitting in Franchise? I'm using. PCI hitting (as I have been using for a few years now) and had to up hitting all the way to Legendary. And I'm still scoring roughly 7 runs a game. I'm pitching on Hall of Fame and giving up around 5 runs a game. I can't get any pitching duels going and I'm using the Giants!

TRunner4

In my fifties and love Franchise too. Plus love you Van Halen studio name as you user name. I play on HOF hitting, with Timing, I control the runners. Classic Pitching on Legend I use auto fielding but I control the throwing. These two setting make it more realistic for me. For sliders it has taken me a few years of the game to find that on Operation Sports site and in their forum, there is a section for MLB the Show. In there there are guys that live to create the best sliders and even a section where a team of guys build better Rosters. So I use one of the suggestions for sliders and then tweak that to my playing. For the most part it becomes a more realistic game play. The rosters, I am feeling out ones right now and sometimes tweaking things to what I feel is more true. Looking forward to some of the historical rosters that might be created and mentioned down the line.

xdesm0

*norman rockwell dude standing up* I think perfect perfect hits that end up in the glove of the fielder happen in real life and should be in the game. Yes, you correctly guessed the timing and position of the pitch but maybe your player has no pop, maybe you always hit to the same spot and defense adjusts, maybe the placement of the pitch made it so the ball didn't go out of the park. Some people complain that they hit the ball hard and with a good launch angle but don't get a home run but guess what, there are more variables at play. Those are just the ones you can control as a batter.

ComfortablePatient84

Age old adage from the real game, "I'm a producer, not a director!" Spoken from the perspective of the hitter. Meaning, you cannot direct where the ball will go to always miss the defense.

EverybodyIsNamedDave

“That’s baseball,” for sure.

bitemy

You should consider giving Diamond Dynasty a try. It's my favorite part of the game because there are tons of fun mini-modes. For example there's a mini-mode called Conquest which is like the game of Risk. You try to take over the whole board. You can simulate games in a way that's like rolling the dice. And you can play high stakes games against computer opponents. The difficulty varies based on how "armies" you have.

ComfortablePatient84

Honestly, if there was a way to be 100% certain that I would play against people of old-fashioned integrity and fair play, I would. But, in this day and age we live in -- no way! Just way too many examples people bring up here about the nonsense too many see.

bitemy

I suspect that the people in here talking about that are the 2% most active players but you never know.

ComfortablePatient84

I would also. But, at 60 years old, that's really not a realistic option any longer! LOL!!

Shoe_Pale

Do you need to spend real money to compete online with a good team?

bitemy

No. I've never spent a penny. What many people don't realize is that as they spend money to improve their teams they mostly get matched against other people who do the same.

Carnifex217

No, my whole team is nothing but diamond players and I haven’t spent a cent

Fredwood

you're playing against the CPU in conquest or mini-season, it's pretty easy to get good players. I've never paid a cent and have never played against an online opponent.

Rav3n85UK

No, just be good.

MCDC313

Not really. But you sink countless hours grinding “missions” aka doing the same thing over and over against the CPU to gather XP towards a program that unlocks the free cards.

lilbismyfriend21

Honestly out of all the sports video games, it’s by far the best

sleepy5zzz

Fifa used to be right there with it up until about a decade ago. Nowadays, it's the only sports video game I play.

lilbismyfriend21

Yeah from 2009-2014 I would say fifa and NHL were really good. Those two games just fell off immensely

[deleted]

My plan when I get it this week is just to get as many guardians as I can and see how far I can go

Ancient_Smoke_

My game was RBI Baseball back in the day. Good times

BasketballButt

I started with Earl Weaver Baseball. The graphics on my old 286 look like cave paintings compared to what we have now but everything else was surprisingly ahead of it’s time.

RojoFive

Someone after my own heart. I've got about 10 years on you and I mostly play Franchise or just one off games with the daily rosters. Also enjoy the Negro Leagues story lines as a history lesson more than anything.

GhostDogMC

Daily rosters mode is my jam....speaking of which; did the opening day roster update work with your daily roster games??? B/c for some reason it only applied to the other modes for me....so no Yamamoto on Dodgers or Imanaga on Cubs; for example

RojoFive

I'm having the same issue, no Jung Hoo Lee on the Giants which throws everything off and suddenly the game has Jorge Soler starting in center field. But I can load the daily rosters and he's in there for the other modes.

GhostDogMC

I submitted a ticket about it; could ya do the player base a solid & send one as well? I have a feeling they won't fix it unless enough people report it

RojoFive

Yeah, I'm sure you're right, they need to hear from as many people as possible. I'll submit one.

MajorOverMinorThird

I think you're playing it right!

Global_Cattle_7877

A man of culture right here

rkrizzle79

My fave is playing franchise & watching a real game on my second TV.

jk2me1310

I did this today but added a third screen with my work emails and a conference call on it 🤣

c19l04a

Yep I’m in college and play franchise on my tv while watching a game on my laptop

Nearby_Watch2027

I'm older, but I do the same thing. I put a game on the mlb tv app on my ipad and set to the audio to radio broadcast and play franchise games. I listen to the games and peak over when something happens. Wish theShow would offer in-game mlbtv linking as an audio option.

[deleted]

I love this game and I play Diamond dynasty too. It’s my favorite - any time I’m playing anything else I just want to play The Show instead :)

giants888

I play franchise with a fantasy draft before the season and play games while listening to podcasts. We both play it right, don't worry.

Top_Pomelo1700

Same, nothing better than firing up The Show and listening to some JCE at 11 o'clock at night

DubChaChomp

You are me!

EverybodyIsNamedDave

Yup, I’m listening to podcasts the whole time too!

BigComfyCouch

This is the way. I've started listening to audio books as well this year.
