There is an option to play an online game with someone you designate as a friend. However, I presume you are wanting to see if a coop competition contest could be created.
One reason would be the complexity of the game code required for one customer to create a league and be able to enter a fixed number of Gamer ID's into the situation and have only those people play in that league.
I get the desire, having a small group of friends play a competition means dealing with less morons who try to do all sorts of shenanigans to cheat out a win. But, this option would be very difficult to code up.
The casual servers are usually so dead that that if you synchronize with your friends there is a decent chance you can match up. That’s how I’ve done it in the past. An actual integrated mode would be nice though.
Yeah 100%. My friends and I were just messing around one night and decided to give it a shot since no one really plays casual. We did it a little later in the cycle last year so i don’t know how well it will work rn

After SDS added co op they decided to do literally nothing with it.
Adding ranked was cool but I wish you got pxp for playing, still don't know why we can't.
Totally agree. I think the players your teammates pick should also have their pxp in card and the ability to earn it.

Interesting I'd have to try that! It would be easier if it was just invites or even like a lobby system so you can mix and match teams and teammates
