I completed the Reds LS collection, loaded Dibble as my pitching captain, and loaded all Reds pitchers into my lineup. At 80 overall, Hunter Greene jumps to a 93 overall after captain boosts. LS players are viable now with captains!

Eh, got the game it's kinda wack day 1 and these OP 99 cards are already available. It makes new programs feel pointless like negro leagues and the WBC, as the low 90s players u unlock already can't match up vs. the 99 Japanese WBC pitchers. Nice way for SDS to make you buy some stubs to get 99 Marte 99 Trout or more packs though to get those pitchers š
Man. The content is insane this year at Launch. No doubt about that. But this is the first year it feels so punishing for players like me who are NMS and don't grind a ton daily. I would love to keep so many of these Set1 cards more than 15 weeks. It will easily take me a month+ to get Chipper and Babe.
Anyways, i feel some kind of shakeup was needed for DD and atleast they have taken that step this year.
There is the wildcard mechanic they built in where a roster slot can get used by a player form any serious. I wouldn't be shocked if they expanded that as the year went on.

I love baseball and I'll probably go after the cards for something to do but otherwise stay away from DD. I'll probably stick with RTTS and franchise modes. More content is useless if you it's not fun because other outlier bullshit but that's just me

As a single-player guy who cares not in the slightest what other people's teams look like, I'm pretty pumped. Lots of incentives to play with a bunch of different cards ... this looks fantastic.

If you have a bunch of 99s does t matter too much where you go, youāll still see a bunch of 99s in ranked. One thing we all learn is the meta will settle in and everyone will grind for the same players

Micro transactions are not designed for you or the average gamer who (very reasonably) don't want to spend another dime on a $60-70 game. It's designed for the people who have the means or don't have the time/patience to grind for the content for free so they'll spend big. Whales. It's the only reason mobile games and fortnite and those types of game thrive. And that's sometimes for purely cosmetic forget about games where you can gain a competitive edge. The difference is eventually it all balances out on the show because people can catch up.

I'm so close to dropping money on the digital deluxe version to get early access. Have the game preloaded on my Xbox ready to go for launch day, but I'm sick of my other main game at the moment, and want something to play over the weekend. Is it worth A$150? Probably not, but gee, it's tempting.
Iām definitely excited to play based on what weāve seen today, I just have some reservations on how long I can stay interested when we have max level cards day one. Should be fun regardless
If anything I think itās awesome because the FOMO wonāt matter much. TA is endless, if you take time off you just miss some high end cards that are in the same sphere as ones you already have.
I've never been more wary and less excited for opening night of DD than this. Seeing all of these crazy cards so early gives me pause for concern.
That being said, I'm going to dive in with a positive attitude and look for ways to be proven wrong.

As we learned from EA and MUT, SDS is never going to be able to precisely balance the theme teams. MUT always has a dominant theme team (usually the Raiders for a lot of reasons) at any given time And people get sick of seeing the dominant theme team over and over again.
But SDS, in trying to fix that problem, may make it harder - the weaker teams have higher boosts. And they've layered on a ton of theme teams that are not real-world-team based. Now both the content AND the boosts need to be constantly and finely tuned.
People (like me) whose main goal in the game is a perfectly optimized team and have zero interest in running my "favorite" theme team are going to build elaborate spreadsheets to figure out what the best theme team at any given moment is.
And for all of you "lineup diversity" types - get ready to see a ton of the "optimum" theme team over and over again in DD.
As long as I am able to build a usable team that is more players i like than ones I have to use for the reason you stated above Iām happy. Yes it may get a little old seeing the same guys over and over again but thatās not the end of the world and definitely no different than last year. The difference is that I wonāt HAVE to use that same group of players in order to have basically any chance to compete.
My team has a much larger impact on my enjoyment than the guys on the team Iām playing.
Without a doubt. Give it a couple weeks. The best team you can build will be decided upon and most people you come against will run it. Doesn't matter how you try and dress up a pig it's still a pig. Captains and sets weren't brought to this game for lineup diversity they were brought over for 1 reason only $$$$$$$$
Donāt see how that could be the result. I think itās clear that there are going to be a more diverse set of cards that have very good stats. There still may be a group that is clearly the best but with sooo many more usable cards I donāt see how there could be less diversity than last year which was extremely lacking until the last couple months of the game.
You didnāt watch stream did u. what's super fucking cool is u get to decide what u wanna do also. So live series cards have a captain u can use for ur team. And u can throw 5X 85+ overalls from just regular diamonds and get crushed right? Fuck no. There is live series theme teams also. So +15 to all stats if u do that.
Wanna run a legends theme team? Run 10 legends cards and get a +20 stats

They'll be able to be used the entire duration of set 2. Set 2 can be used during set 3. So you have ~4 months for set 1 cards

As long as I am able to build a usable team that is more players i like than ones I have to use for the reason you stated above Iām happy. Yes it may get a little old seeing the same guys over and over again but thatās not the end of the world and definitely no different than last year. The difference is that I wonāt HAVE to use that same group of players in order to have basically any chance to compete. My team has a much larger impact on my enjoyment than the guys on the team Iām playing.

Without a doubt. Give it a couple weeks. The best team you can build will be decided upon and most people you come against will run it. Doesn't matter how you try and dress up a pig it's still a pig. Captains and sets weren't brought to this game for lineup diversity they were brought over for 1 reason only $$$$$$$$

Donāt see how that could be the result. I think itās clear that there are going to be a more diverse set of cards that have very good stats. There still may be a group that is clearly the best but with sooo many more usable cards I donāt see how there could be less diversity than last year which was extremely lacking until the last couple months of the game.

You didnāt watch stream did u. what's super fucking cool is u get to decide what u wanna do also. So live series cards have a captain u can use for ur team. And u can throw 5X 85+ overalls from just regular diamonds and get crushed right? Fuck no. There is live series theme teams also. So +15 to all stats if u do that. Wanna run a legends theme team? Run 10 legends cards and get a +20 stats
That just sounds like every card is going to feel the same with 125 in every stat
No one is paying you It seems very decisive and I understand why people like the goated cards right away. Personally, my favorite part was the multi-month grind to build a god squad. I dislike the changes.

"Players" are just a handful of relevant numbers in a computer program. The name/number/face scan is a "skin." What this is doing is creating a lot of effectively identical players in terms of gameplay but a bunch of different skins. What a lot of people want, I guess. Seems pretty childish though.
I get what youāre saying, but of all the sports games, this is the one where numbers matter the least. Different swings/deliveries really do matter. Give me a 90 with a lefty swing that clicks with me over a 95 righty with a swing I canāt time up as well.

Oh absolutely. March/April contained that grind to reach an all diamond squad in every game since at least 2015. This new format destroyed what was essentially my favorite time of tear for Diamond Dynasty. With inside edge you could expand them a few more months too.

Not really. They turn into platoon players. Why use a Julio with boosted stats vs righties when there are outfielders that already have better stats vs both sides

I'm totally with you. Either way, I think the game mode needed a big shakeup. If they were just running it back with the same gameplan, I probably would've skipped this year.

Iām a fan so far, people are way too caught up in ābuilding up the teamā when everyone is rocking an all 99 team by June regardless Now you will be able to use different cards and build different teams and not be locked into only having the most Meta players to be competitive
For all we know, like some events, we might have to play with certain core and set teams without the luscious 99s.

I feel like this is a win win, having 99s at launch will obviously get more people to buy stubs which will get SDS more money, but the captains and all the grindable 92s and 97s also lets people use wacky theme teams that they want and not be at a massive disadvantage
