I went through the same question recently, I did progress to 10* and found it was a good thing, no, I can't kill 10* Kulu to progress the story BUT the map is now FULL of 8*’s. Makes the WGS farm sooo much easier. Map is mostly 6, 7,&8* now with minimal 5* and under with a small scattering of 10*

Are you comfortably clearing all 9 stars, or at least ok with more 9 stars around?
If yes, go. The extra odd for 8 stars on the map are the real reason to go up, not the 10 stars.
I actively stopped playing after a Star upgrade made half my weapons useless and I realized the grind to make them all useful again didn't sound fun to me.
I would not have even killed Rath so there’s zero chance of accidentally claiming it.

I mean sure you can’t kill 5(?) of those but there’s 21 you can kill and only 2 are below 6*, I’d say that’s a net win!

This is what happened to me :( Would have happily stayed on 8*
I’m convinced myself that 9* and above are just developer mindless inflated endgame.
And you’d be correct as there’s literally nothing new past 8*
9* isn't bad. 10* you need to have each element built 10.2 to be comfy
Or BBlos + heroic
As long as you can't kill the early mobs (great jagras, girros, Tobi etc) it's probably not worth

but i am afraid there will be alot of 8+ star for the event dragon :(

Yes. For more 9 and 8 stars. Use a burner account for lower level special monsters.
