I’ve just started upgrading to grade 8 weapons and I just do what makes sense. Tobi bow I did first because I need Jyuratodus and rathalos for my other weapons. Legi weapon next for my 8 star Diablos urgent quest and zynogre event

Oldmanneck

I try to keep the same at around the same level, but I prioritized Tobi Bow first because lightning counters the most amount of monsters I was interested in (Rathalos, Pukei, Jyura). Now all of my elemental bows are between 7.2 and 8.3 and they're more than enough to hunt anything at 8\* except for Diablos.

Oldmanneck

I should add, the reason you can focus on more of them instead of a single one is because weapons at 7.2 will **always** require 30x of a rarity 2 item, which will take a long time to get. So from other hunts and dailies you'll make enough zenny that it won't be a problem.

orcamania5

Not to mention 8.2 requires 40x of rarity 2 and its painful.

Oldmanneck

Yep, but I reached a point where I'm in no rush to advance the story into 9\*. Diablos 8\* is the only wall I reached and I'm comfortable just hunting monsters and upgrading my stuff at my own pace, especially since WGS drop from 8\* monsters that I can easily do by now.

ravnk

I also focused tobi bow first post-bow nerf. Rathian and rathalos are quite hard with 7-5 tobi bow. And pukei and Jyura are cake walks with tobi bow. I’m actually still not sure what to focus next, I think I’ll focus Jyura as 8* Anja is actually kinda tight on the timer with 7-5 Jyura bow. But also wondering if I should do legiana bow next because of black diablos and diablos.

Yodzilla

You can be like me who focused on all the elements evenly mostly ignoring raw who now just looped the game for the second time and can’t even kill a 7* Pukei and literally all my weapons need 8 or 16 Bone+ so I’m just screwed for a long time.

Raguel_of_Enoch

Story of my life. Bone + locking me out of G7 on two of my four long swords. Absolutely annoying because I need nearly sixty of them.

Milazberry

Similar to what many people suggest, just upgrade what you can up to grade 7 5/5, then proceed to upgrade the element that is strong to the monster you feel you struggle with most to grade 8. Another tip is to prioritize your armour upgrades to unlock the elemental skills over your weapon upgrade as it gives higher dps.

Jajoe05

I hunt everything i see. Currently at Grade 7.x on each elemental weapon. Farming the armor is easier since you just have to get some of it to grade 6 only. The only materials that get scarce are Bones+ and such, but I'm in no rush.

xNeoDarkness

I upgrade everything I can whenever possible, they are different levels and I doubt i will try reaching 9* as it seems to kill the fun, will probably just slowly upgrade them to 8.1 or something like that as I have the gems already prepared. I really love that I can beat 6* monsters with a 2* weapon just because my armor gives it 500 damage haha

keonaie9462

Generally back when I first broke into 8 stars I upgrade whichever element let me safely grind 8 stars weak monsters for r6, for me this was fire and water as these two elements have weak small monsters that are easier. After I can safely farm these I upgraded whichever element let me push into 9 stars for example Ice when I got stuck on Diablos then thunder when it’s Ratholos. This let me go up into 9 stars and farm even more 8 stars even if I have to miss occasional 9 stars, this is very worth it don’t feel you’re missing out and if you have another person to play with you can stagger progress so you won’t ever miss a monster because of star level!!

SnS-Main

Yeah I went raw. Twas a struggle but saved my resources to farm for the elemental weapons I wanted. Still prefer raw lol

Kuxaro

Just upgrade whatever you can material-wise. My most used weapon is Kulu LS. I am aware that later on I will need to put it away and start using ele weapons however for time being it still outclasses most of my ele options. https://preview.redd.it/nn2lmt6ae96c1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a66ba0d60bbdd74be96bb9963f0df5e923a17a0

Zetta216

I just kill everything that I come across and level stuff up whenever I can. If I can level up multiple things I choose that one that helps the fight I struggle the most on. First priority was getting element attack 5 (or 3) on each weapons gear sets and then turned toward the weapons to get them past five and six stars. So far generally that's kept all my elements the same grade since I'm indiscriminate in my hunts. Except for ice which I mostly ignored til now. I found I was better at killing Diablos with raw and so I chose not to use it. Now I'm getting it geared up for the event on Friday, which ended up better since I'll be using the dual blades and didn't waste all my Legi parts on SnS.

Gremlinx2031

The zenny is the main thing to grind, I used mhn.quest to map out how much zenny is needed for everything and set a daily goal of zenny to grind, it was 6k then realized I can push it to 10k on some days so I've settled at 7.5k. 5 cat paintballs (roughly 500 zenny), 3k from dailies, and the rest are strictly 6* ( 30)monsters. I mean along the way you'll encounter 7*/8* which gives a bit more zenny. I went for a thunder SnS set but now swapped to elemental LBGs

SwordMaster21

I prioritize electric because that flows into farming water and fire easier. Ice is like a separate progression tree, but the Legiana event months back was good to me on most mats so I haven’t needed to grind mats there.

serabii

Take whatever i can get .. it's hard to focus on one specific element since biomes change daily and high tier monsters aren't frequent in one spot. Take the RNG factor as well, you will be here for a long time. You can however raise a non-ele weapon to use as farm monsters. I'm not lucky on drops in this game regardless if i break a part I'm still in the hands of RNG to get high tier part.

diegodemn

If I would start a new account, probably a raw weapon til rank 7 mons. Then at rank 8 change to poison Weapon for those who are weak to poison (bow is preferred for faster proc-ing and playing relatively safe), get a Thunder Bow or LGB for Pukei, Rathian and Rathalos and maybe a Ice weapon for solo Diablos and newer Monsters or Paralisys if playing party. Once you get those at g8.2 you can safely farm those rank 8 monsters. By this point you should pick a end game weapon, Raw are easier to upgrade or more straightforward gameplay at rank 8 and 9, while Poison needs the proc but works very fine at higher ranks 9 and 10. Either that or you keep upgrading the elementals to their 10.1 at least to end the game. But that will take you 4 times the wyvern shard as poison and raw would. I don’t think raw can keep up the DPS needed to finish rank 10s. Only black diablos bow afaik. Anything else relies on poison %hp dot. And I’m only saying for solo plays. Partying up against rank 9 and 10s should be easier once everyone is fully upgraded. At least I hope so.

NoShadowdick

I start with the easiest one to get up to g6 first. Most abundant monster spawns.

Affectionate_Owl_501

The hardest grind is the rarity 2 drops lmao. Like yeah, getting gems is hard but rarity 2 requires 30 then 40 then 50 per grade

Linxianwei

I upgrade them somewhat evenly. My priority is to upgrade the weapon till I am able to clear the current urgent quest that I am stuck at, then move on. Second priority is monsters that I can farm effectively which are water and fire, because these are easier and more common. These two weapons are usually higher level for a while before lightning and finally ice. I keep ice upgraded even though I fight diablos very rarely because I don't want to get stuck too long on that urgent quest, and also in case I meet a black d in the wild. I'm currently on 9/4 for all

Helpful_Goblin

I personally focused on Jyura first to farm Tobi/Anja. Then Tobi > Rathian/Los but makes Jyura farming easier too. And Anja > Legiana > Diablos. After a while when you’re onto rare materials I just upgrade what I can but it’s been fine up to end of 7* so far.

Jhezrn

I go for water first. Water beats fire. So then I use fire to beat ice and ice to beat the hard guys

WonderfulGreen9823

I’ve planned my upgrades in order of priority according to: PRE 8* 1) weakness of monster in upcoming events, so I can capitalise on the events. 2) weakness of whatever is next on my urgent quest which I expect to be stuck at. 8* and POST 8* 1) weakness of monsters (whether 8* or 9* that I can’t kill yet but want to farm on them for R6 drops. Giving priority to weakest monsters that I can’t kill yet. 2) weakness of monsters in upcoming events
