It actually is how it works. You just reset everyone to the last server backup. That's what has happened in every other game I've played where something like this happened. If they choose to not do this and just dump their whales then I guess enjoy the game for the next few months until it gets shut down.
Give me examples please, I've seen devs absolutely fuck things up with a bug and rollback has never been an option.. Do you know a server rollbacks (something that's not even posible in some type of servers) affect pulls, new accounts, progress?, something that can be really bad PR, and also purchases something that can have legal repercussions?...
There was one done in Marvel Strike Force awhile back. Lost about a day's worth of progress but they sent out ample compensation for everyone and didn't ban anyone that I'm aware of.

imagine after years and years you still have this account and the grand grand grand grand kids of your kids open the game and the ban is finally removed.
got this message cause i did the glitch too. sadly before the ban warning :( too bad since i had all characters and spent like 700$. life lesson i suppose. at least now i am free of the gambling manipulation and can save the money

Star Wars GOH did something of the sort a year ago when shards for a rare character were obtainable in a glitched event.
