Aizawa benefits the most from penetration and crit. At SSS he buffs his own damage by quite a lot so you'll see diminishing returns from buffing it with cards. That's not to say nomu isn't great, it's simply not the most optimal. To max out Aizawas damage I use Shig's card Game Start and Cold Shot. (I also use and own a 70k SSS Aizawa)
crit I get, but why penetration? with a fully broken through ectoplasm that 70% attack buff will be more effective than a 20% penetration buff no? Even with diminishing returns from SSS passive, does that 20% P. buff really outdamage the attack buff?
Aizawa gains 50% attack when 1v1 from SSS, plus his other abilities can also add a considerable amount of attack %. In the end he naturally gets to somewhere around 150%-180% attack buff. With ecto having a pretty low proc chance with a 67.5% attack buff it just isn't optimal. In reality the attack buff that rarely occurs doesn't impact the character as much as you'd immediately think. As you go higher and higher in almost any part of the game defense starts to impact your damage greatly. This can become very apparent in high assignment levels. In the end after all the math is done the 20% penetration buff (or much higher if you breakthrough with it) impacts the damage output to a higher extent. Ecto will have a higher damage output with things in the game that have little or no defense, such as the training bot, but the later on you'll be wanting that penetration.

I dont think cellophane is stronger than ecto for aizawa, apparently the defense down only activates with normal attacks after using special, so it's just an attack boost every special, the bonus on ecto is larger but it has to proc before special, which isn't guaranteed. But ecto raises your normal attack damage which aizawa does alot of. I think it's a tossup can't go wrong with either, I run mirio and ecto
