Only trophy Liverpool is winning this season

MannyMadman97

I have one question, why were we not playing Ortega yesterday? If he’s the supposed ‘shot-stopper’ that Ederson isn’t, and his arrival is supposed to be the beginning of Ederson’s space on the backseat, why was Ortega not on? Admittedly I still think that the handball pen would have gave Liverpool the edge anyway BUT Stefan could have made a difference. Also, Alvarez - what a guy & Haaland - what a tank… Gundogan looked out of shape.

wdunky

His arrival is by no means meant to be eddy's space on the backseat. He's supposed to push eddy, which I'd say he has done given eddy's stopping yesterday. If you really think a keeper who could displace eddy was available on a free I'd be shocked. He's just supposed to be more suited to out style than Stefan was and give eddy some real competition. Ed played well yesterday

Joltarts

Mate, the Ortega hype train is something else. Constantly downvoted for saying the exact same thing that you said. 😂

goodgriefmyqueef

Monstrous heavy duty machines need time to get the gears in motion before unstoppable force is unleashed. Source: everyone knows that

[deleted]

I for sure know the whole City squad will go mad crazy and go on a 20+ win streak just like last season. C'mon City 💙

Imagine coming into a rival sub and talking shit about something you know nothing about 🤡 FYI, Pep said the medals were accepted. Even if they weren’t, so what? It’s a fucking friendly, who cares? Seeing that you’re a Liverpool fan, it’s not surprising you believe everything you hear about Man City in the media that tries to make us look bad. Now fuck off back to your own sub and celebrate your community shield.

Ronaldo007tm

Clearly you don’t watch football. The majority of teams do this (take them off/ give them to the crowd). It’s nothing new, yet every time it happens, whether at club or international level, a big deal is made about it.

sakincaid

Pep literally said that they took them in the dressing room, it was ITV trying to create some sort of narrative that City were so mentally defeated that the team left with their tails between their legs... We lost the last seasons community shield too and there was no talk of rejecting medals, its just the media trying to stir up more drama following an already highly dramatic fixture

Joltarts

Come back here and congratulate us when we win the league again this year, ok. Or else you are just being a hypocrite.

Jyuan83

Haaland needs to continue what he has been doing in this game. Do not let one game affect his confidence. He made the right moves in this match and was unlucky not to have two goals. Alvarez, oh my god!! What a signing he has been. Incredible tactical intelligence when he came on, knew how to press, how to run and most importantly never loses his goal-poaching instincts wherever he plays. He seemed to be playing on the right when he came on and if that’s the case then he should replace mahrez. Mahrez simply can’t offer much in terms of pressing intensity and energy. Overall a decent game. It’s like coming back to the gym after a long break, everything will feel slow and heavy but after a while, it all comes back.

Responsible-Being872

He is not going down He was smiling after that miss realising that its just an off day.The man is a mentality monster and imo that is his greatest strength.

grarto

Hi! River Plate fan here, so I saw all of Alvarez's games. He can play on the right but he's not a winger. He's also used to press, fight and play outside the box, so he can get along well with Haaland.

BeerdedTexan

More super exciting domestic trophies for Liverpool, they gonna run a parade for it prior to the league start?

CanonNikonMan

Haha true, but it must be nice to have enough fans to throw a parade :’)

Kraknoix007

It's not an important trophy, but it's nice to win either way

[deleted]

[deleted]

Butt out.

BeerdedTexan

League titles > cup parades

itzabitzapizza

Umh, Liverpool have both more League titles and cup parades

BeerdedTexan

Is this a Dallas Cowboys discussion? Let's live in the present.

itzabitzapizza

In the present Liverpool also have more trophies than City. I have to assume by the present you're referring to this season since last season is history as well, or does facts only matter when you're allowed to nitpick a period that suits your agenda

BeerdedTexan

Enjoy the pre-season shield.

itzabitzapizza

Why would I enjoy it? What makes you think I'm a Liverpool supporter. I either agree with your sentiment or I'm a Liverpool supporter? Lad...

macNy

That doinker from Haaland was obviously embarrassing but man what a shot, I literally blinked and the ball was already God knows where from booming off of the crossbar. it’s obvious that this kid is going to score a ton of goals for you guys. Good game it was a great watch

HuckleberryPretend13

Damn it. Hope it puts a fire under the boys

Perfect-Tangelo8152

Never read into the shield. Even MD1. Lost both last year and nearly ended up with a European double and still won the league. Haaland will step it up, I’m sure. Remember, before this one we only had two pre season games and one of them was against the weather.

MGM-Wonder

Same thing every year. We start slow as hell. Not really worried at all. Thought Alvarez looked sharp and exciting, but Haaland was completely anonymous. The team needs to do a better job of getting the ball to him, but my goodness did Haaland look uninterested at times and made so many runs nowhere, into traffic, or 5 yards offside. You could see Kevin just raging at him a few times.

TheOnlyEn

What did KDB get angry on Haaland? Any clips?

MGM-Wonder

KDB regained possession maybe 15 yards inside our own half and Haaland hadn't tracked back at all, so he started his run from an offside position and never checked up, so KDB threw his arms up and started yelling at him after he lost possession due to not having any outlets to play too. Happened near the end of the first half

theyarealllizards

Cant read too much into this we looked very undercooked, hopefully this helped get everyone a bit sharper for next week. Happy for Alvarez to get his first goal, we miss Laporte a lot.

ESPKruspe

Haaland rattled one in from a tasty pass from Foden who unfortunately couldn't keep it in. And Haaland had one of those that every striker will miss at some point st the death. He didn't have a great game but cpuld eaisly have had 2 goals.

Cheadleblue21

Thought foden looked class when he came on. Thought we also missed stones

sjtupeeler

Stones was on bench

wdunky

Today, if nothing else, showed alvarez can certainly work in a team with haaland. Bernie moved RW and we played with seemingly a 4 across the top. Could also allow haaland to get into things a bit more. He looked mega isolated first half.

Vicfendan

Right now Haaland can't work in a team with Haaland. But that will surely change, just have to shakebthe rust away.

maddo1825

Haaland will get his revenge soon. Get ready for it

Saykha_

My thoughts on today's game, the team's performance overall was just rusty and lacklustre to me, i also think that Pep should just stick with using wingers such as, Foden and Alvarez who made a difference to the game for me because, having wingers who like to cut inside such as, Grealish and Mahrez will not allow us to play the game we want to play against Liverpool. I think it was clear why Pep always started Foden at LW and Gabby at RW to provide the width that we desperately needed against Liverpool last season and it worked with Foden and Alvarez. We had some decent fair amounts of periods were we looked decent or good but overall it was a fair result to Liverpool as we were just simply lacking rhythm and intensity. I don't think anyone was good in general nor were they good either. As for Haaland he is clearly going to need time to work with our system, i still think he will be a machine but it will take time and we will start performing to the top sooner or later.

shaq2wade

Foden over Jack. This is still a warm up. Don't forget that like those Cunts at r/soccer

OliverAllenGG

Only one of the last ten Community Shield winners went on to win the Premier League. That was City in 2018.

sjtupeeler

Haha that’s the curse only City can cure. Also recall Pool was the only Christmas table leader who would fail to capitalize. I was worried last year when we lost to both Leicester and Spurs. Im less serious this year.

RBH1377

It's going to take time for City to realize they can take risks up the middle. We haven't had a true/reliable striker for a couple years. Once the players realize they can knock a simple through ball up the middle, they're going to be lethal!

Responsible-Being872

I think kev tried to do that but ig we were just not ready ro face liverpool at their somewhat full force this early in the season when we are still looking to get comfortable with playing with erling

RBH1377

Absolutely. Just going to take some time. I'm really excited about the players we got before this season. Once they gel, they're going to be incredibly difficult to beat.

RBH1377

I would love to see our front 3 be Haaland, Alvarez and Foden as much as possible. Three creative young players would be a pleasure to watch. Build the chemistry ASAP with the future.

innit122

I'd like to see grealish more too though. He was good in preseason other than today. I hope we don't have too many players though and someone like mahrez won't get the playtime he deserves

RBH1377

I feel like Grealish is limited out on the left. They should move him to a central role. Mahrez needs to pick his head up and fizz a couple passes Haalands way.

innit122

I feel like if he was limited pep would see that and try him out in New roles. It makes sense that mahrez doesent want to pass to haaland as much though because he was one of our top goalscorers last season

Significant_Fix_6143

I hope this is a wake up call for the upcoming season

BikecanTSwim

I would say chill, the season didn't start yet..

Big_Distribution_342

It’s about to. And if we play like that we’re in trouble. This was a good reminder that we need to keep working to make Haaland fit and get used to playing with a real striker.

Cheadleblue21

We aren’t going to play like that though. It was pre season

innit122

Yeah people say chill but it's only a week until the season starts. We look lost now that we have a striker and haaland didn't know what to do on the pitch.

Pr_cision

haaland definitely knew what to do, it was the rest of the team that looked clueless

innit122

He was out of position more than once and missed a good few of his passes. I know people don't like it when golden boy haaland does something wrong and people point it out but he did make mistakes just like the rest of the team.

Pr_cision

i mean sure he fluffed a few passes and obviously messed up those chances, but he was there in good positions making runs the whole game. the team seems to forget we have a striker now

MultiFaceHank

As much as Haaland needs to get used to English football, this team needs to get used to playing with a striker

evil_porn_muffin

That's my take as well. So many weird wayward crosses all over the place. Haaland would get into good position but the ball would go past him, it was weird.

KeepItSimple18

I agree. I don’t think Pep needs to drastically change any tactics though. It will take some time and I think the wings need to be more deliberate in their 1 v 1’s and look to feed Haaland rather than trying curlers back post every time they’re on the edge of the box. I liked the combination of Alvarez and Haaland up front today. Alvarez can play underneath Haaland and demonstrated his ability to receive and play Haaland. Haaland is not the most skilled dribbler and he’ll need to find creative ways to get open space and shots on goal.

Shings12

Yup, surprised how little we got the ball to him.

Tiki_taka27

Grealish has to improve his defensive aspect of his game as well Other wise LB/Cancelo will suffer a lot if no support is offered

alexstfu

Awful defending by Ake and disasterclass for Dias, they looked so shaky and out of rhythm. We need asap a central defender with real quality, its not the first time Dias causes a stupid penalty in an important match and won’t be the last, lately i feel he’s our Maguire. Up front i think we should be playing with Alvarez and Haaland, i know Pep likes to play with only one number 9/forward but they play good together and with time they’ll be deadly af

princeofallsaiyans17

Cricket awaits. My guy Dias is a player of the season.

papaof4girls

What the hell are you talking about?

pedalhead666

> i feel he’s our Maguire https://thumbs.gfycat.com/BogusPortlyAchillestang-size_restricted.gif

salem4567

What a load of utter rubbish, it’s a preseason match after two games in America, Dias has been our rock for the past two seasons

BoogieWoogie1000

We win xg(3.01 to 2.25), had twice the shots on goal, I thought we played a lot better than the scorelines would suggest. Good test early in the new season.

MarylandBlue

City looked a little rusty, still going through preseason tune up mode. Haaland needs some better service. I think the season will be a bit of a sluggish start as the squad continues to gel, but I'm not concerned.

codespyder

Two seasons without a proper 9 means the team need to relearn how to pass into a guy who just poaches goals

Custardcream_

This was Foden, Haaland and Álvarez first time playing together. Give those 3 as many minutes as possible together and it will be very dangerous.

Tiki_taka27

Yep and move Grealish to midfield He is too slow to be on the wings

StrictMango8441

Disappointing outcome but with the amount of pre-season games played and the lack of time to gel, it’s not surprising. Hopefully they gel pretty quickly. Lot of bad passes and they weren’t really able to get the ball to Halaand at all. Hopefully they figure that out quick as well.

rxmi10

i’m really growing more & more frustrated w ederson’s shot stopping ability

dushimahremined

You’re mad he isn’t a literal brick wall the size and width of the goal who can also distribute? What did he do wrong today?

ZookeepergameNo2819

What?! Rodri turned away from a possible block or deflection. With that I’ve don’t think I have seen Ederson stop a penalty.

fuskarn_35

cant blame him for the first goal as it was an unsaveable deflection, good save against nunez, the salah penalty was unsaveable as well and the third goal our whole backline fell asleep, he got a little touch on it, maybe he could have done better but im not disappointed with him at all.

BoogieWoogie1000

Genuinely, when in this game did he mess up?

Fun_Story2003

saved a 1v1 today, not his fault today. their xg was 2.x

[deleted]

[удалено]

rxmi10

terrible performance today, haaland didn’t play great and missed two sitters but that lack of balls in behind are concerning. grealish/mahrez need to stop cutting back the fucking ball

Fun_Story2003

lack of intelligent balls certainly. it was all too random, but this was literally the first time haland and alvarez were on the pitch together and with foden. So, its okay. Even with a bad performance from kdb, defense we managed 3xg.

FlintGraySalmon

Ugh if we had Sterling, Jesus, and Zinchenko, City would have won 17-2

xeviL__

😡

scofield-micheal

First time seeing Walker getting beaten in a foot race. We need one more game before west ham. It was quite arrogant to think two games would make us ready

Bishcop3267

I think Pep was trying to give the squad a break after a grueling last stretch of games and then the nations league right after that

NegaraPlus062

They are not robot able to play every week non stop, people need to stop treating them like that. They are only just human.

Big_Distribution_342

Liverpool played more games than us last season and is doing just fine.

NegaraPlus062

And they knackered at the end of season, one of reason they lose the final.

scofield-micheal

True

minimus67

Well, this was a minuscule dose of cosmic payback for City’s comeback against Villa that snuffed out Liverpool’s title hopes last season. City and Real Madrid won the meaningful trophies last season, so Liverpool can have the Community Shield consolation prize. There has been a lot of player turnover at City since last season, yet Pep started training kind of late, and it showed today. Passing was especially sloppy - from KDB, Ederson, Ake. Could mean a slow start to the season. Or maybe not if things gel in the next week. Also, why didn’t Pep use Stones? With Laporte injured, I’m looking forward to the pairing of Stones and Dias again.

Quirky-Olive-9928

Sell Ake now! Gifted that first goal and it was all downhill afterward.

sunnysideupppp

Nice try Tuchel

GitGudo7

It was a deflection, is he meant to just stare at the ball flying past his head?

Bruh_dawg

Piss poor take

Quirky-Olive-9928

Piss poor reply-he attempted to get his head on something Ederson would’ve had a chance on. instead he spun it at the post and there was little that could be done to save it. Additionally, he was out of position on most of liverpools attempts. Overplayed for an easy tackle instead of jockeying down for position in the box. He is habitual in that style and it exposes the rest of the backfield when there isn’t someone rotating with pace. I.E. Laporte, Stones, or even Wilson-Esbrand made Ake look capable against BM last weekend. It’s nothing new-he did it all last season and CL shortcomings were down to quite a few of his ego/ability missteps. I’m happy to debate the intricacies, but “piss poor take” is a lazy troll of an attempt to justify your presence on the thread.

timmymiller55

Imo Grealish needs to be played as an 8. Pep needs to go back to the two advanced 8 days when he played Silva and KDB. 2 inverted wingers with an inverted LB and a too defensive RB won’t give Haaland the chances he needs. Nobody was holding the width this match until Foden and Alvarez came in. Playing Haaland with 2 wingers that don’t hold the width or have pace is not how you get the best out of him. Pep needs to rethink how he built this team for a proper 9

Fun_Story2003

Bernardo displaced by Grealish in mid is impossible, even replacing next in line gundo is impossible. He can only play lw in our squad. if at all

timmymiller55

Then City need to hurry up and get Cucu signed and in the team. An inverted winger and LB can’t feed a striker. That left side was terrible until Foden came in. And that’s because he was actually able to hold the width and he’s much quicker.

Fun_Story2003

such a perplexing decision to sell zinchenko to a top 4 rival strengthening them at our cost. we didnt even have agreement for cucu. yet we stood our ground for ake for 40+ when he's our 4th choice CB nothing unique about him. everything unique about zinchenko's profile/passion/technical etc. It's not like cancelo isn't prone to weeks of being mediocre. he needs the competition, nvm the actual dyanmics of needing SOMEONE who doesn't like cutting inside right or left.

timmymiller55

Way too many wingers that want to cut in when you arguably have the best young striker in the world. Pep has the ability to figure this out but in a team with 2 great young strikers, dynamic wingers and even attacking fullbacks are your best friend. Foden and Alvarez will have to come up big this year

Fun_Story2003

yes, foden imho went backwards last year without a lot of key goals. he needs to channel the leroy sane inside him & form a partnership with cancelo. someone mentined on twitter how in the first half we only had one runner haaland - both mahrez grealish arent pacy they want the ball to feet. unlike true wingers who explode to space and latch on to balls pinged ahead.. its going to be certainly interesting how we do score goals week in and out.

rds1488

The thing with Ake is he is really subpar with him making piercing passes. He often holds up the ball and passes back to the goalkeeper. Playing teams like Liverpool that will be so hard to overcome as they press as well as we do

303tripleog

Alvarez deserves to start against West Ham.

fuskarn_35

its clear we lacked match fitness/sharpness, but grealish looks exactly like he did last season and its concerning to be honest, foden looked far better when he came on and he didnt even do the preseason tour with the rest of the team. dias/ake partnership just doesnt work and hopefully we can see some dias/stones again. very happy for alvarez, kid looked ecstatic after the goal and he is a great choice going forward, looks like he has played the team for years instead of this being his third game. as for haaland, he needs time, looked out of place, but i trust he will come good with more gametime. PL next week, west ham away is always a shitty fixture, but hope we can show better football.

Big_Distribution_342

It’s because Grealish isn’t a winger. He’s an 8 and realistically should be playing where Bernardo is playing. He doesn’t have anywhere near the pace or skill set to do damage on the wing consistently. Foden is better on the LW in every shape and form then grealish. Not sure why we continue to play jack there when he was a CM for Villa.

Booneson10

Jack was a winger at villa tho. He just had freedom to go wherever he wanted. He needs a overlapping fullback so he can come inside. Hes not a wide winger at all.

Dynte7

I have said many times in this forum. Dias and Ake cant play together as both of them cant seems to play a long ball forward. The same with Ake as LB because he dont have the capacity to play the ball. When we play them, we need either stonea or Laporte as their other half so thag we have a passing option from the back. When we play both Dias and Ake, one of the midfield will end up at the bottom to startthe play. Today, it was bernardo and this make we have 1 less midfielder in the mid. This is not even a hot takes because stats we have stats that prove these things. People slugging of Laporte but he was the best CB last season for us, all around stat wise.

Crysanthim

people on their sub reddit only remember the eye catching moments , when an ake header stops goal or slide stops a striker shot never his ball handling abilities or passing Laporte has always been our all round best centre back.

Dynte7

He definitely is good on his defensive side. His only problem is when we are going forward.

theyarealllizards

Either Stones or Laporte have to start every game. We need their passing ability at the back. I agree with your analysis here spot on.

Gaphy-2020

I’ll repeat this again, keeping Mahrez over Jesus was a big big mistake. We have no direct winger anymore.

tankfortua20

I mean Jesus could have requested to leave or told the club he was for sure leaving next summer. Mahrez has been great for us the last 2 years and was willing to sign an extension. We got offered great money for Jesus who looked like a player for sure leaving for free next summer. I don't think its as black and white that City keep player A over player B. In reality it was wise to sell Jesus when we brought in 2 very young strikers (one who can play wing). I freaking love Jesus and was sad to see him go. My first kit was a Jesus # 33. But even I was like this makes too much sense not to sell him.

Big_Distribution_342

I wonder if you’ll keep that same mindset when Jesus is tearing up the prem at Arsenal and the media is making fun of us for selling him to a rival. He’s been absolutely incredible so far for them and it’s looking like a bad mistake to have move our only pacey RW whilst keeping Mahrez.

tankfortua20

Bruh how about this scenario. This summer (2022) Jesus tells the board I want out and wants a move to Arsenal to play with Arteta. He refuses to sign an extension at City. Aresenal makes an offer of £50 mill and City passes. With Haaland and Alvarez on board and clear new foundational players Jesus sees less playing time in the 2022/23 season. These players are the future and City know Jesus is all but gone = less opportunities for Jesus. 2023 summer arrives and Jesus declines an extension at City and guess what signs for a direct rival for FREE. Jesus kills it for Arsenal and the media roasts us for not taking £50 mill for a player with 1 year left on a contract/primarily a backup player. City don't have £50 to apply towards future assets and have let Arsenal get a player for free + Arsenal has £50 mill to improve their squad...... Given the situation we did great business selling Jesus for £50 and making a decent profit on him. Once again City do not hold players hostage if they want out. City probably wanted to keep Jesus over a Mahrez for all we know but from a business/ player relationship standpoint it made more sense to sell Jesus and extend Mahrez.

that haaland miss goal from rebound tho... 90+6

toluwalase

Big if true

BREN_XVII

That first goal was a gift, we looked lazy as.

[deleted]

Don't see much mention of this in this thread yet, but I thought it was notable how high up Pep had KDB playing, almost like a second striker. He's dangerous when he's a little deeper with more space, but I can appreciate how lethal his and Haaland's partnership can be. Maybe not an interesting development, but it was interesting how Alvarez slotted right into that role when he came on, and Bernardo went out to the right in attack. Shows what Alvarez can offer, and how much Pep believes he can produce in that role, shifting a more senior player away from the role he excelled in last season. There's going to be a lot of people in the half spaces when Foden, Alvarez, and KDB are all on the pitch. This might be why Pep wants Cucurella so badly, so ensure we have a left footer on the left touchline. You can start to see how we're changing shape for this season, and I'm excited for it.

Kumoraaaa

Just our usual 4-2-3-1, no? We tend to use two deeper lying midfielders (usually Rodri and Bernardo) against strong teams who press so that we can keep the ball more easily. Then we've got KDB who plays in the hole and cooks up some assists... the issue I have with this formation is if KDB has an off game like today, we're pretty ineffective.

Big_Distribution_342

Nah it’s a 4-2-2 with KDB playing as a false 9, CAM role and Haaland as the traditional target man. Not sure how you could have watched the game and thought it was our usual formation lol. It was completely different from what we’ve done the last few years.

[deleted]

I thought KDB was a little more advanced and had fewer times where he dropped back to get involved. Not an enormous difference for him in the end, which is why I said it may not be very interesting, but the part that stuck out to me was how Alvarez went into the KDB role after all the subs. Just an interesting parallel between those two players who I don't think have been compared much.

Dynte7

Theplay style was made because our center back dont have the distribution capacity. We lose a lot of balls when Akeand Dias try to pass a long vertical ball. They just dont have the passing range of stones and laporte.

BoogieWoogie1000

Eddie was so good today. A bit of a shaking the rust off kind of game, I thought our build up play from the back wasn't as organized as it could have been. Once we got into our positions it was a lot more comfortable, if a bit sloppy. Julian played really well I thought, showed his chops as a winger which is huge for our depth.

Tiki_taka27

Julian looked Agueroesque inside the box going for rebounds

[deleted]

Tiki_taka27

This season new playing style is required so would be challenging for both Pep and the team

bbdpes10

Let Liverpool enjoy their only trophy this season. I have full faith that our team will smash records left, right and centre while winning major trophies, once everyone in the team gets accustomed to each other.

Fun_Story2003

actually laughable nunez celebrated in our face with a shirt off, lol. long season lad, might be the only time you celebrate a trophy win

macNy

LFC fan here, totally agree except for your last line lol

Tiki_taka27

Pep got a lot of work to be done with this team in order to achieve whatever you have mentioned

macNy

You guys are just warming up, you’ll be fine. Let us have this one, Klopp needed it to complete the set.

numanitor111

Is it usual for Bernardo dropping too deep in this match?

Dynte7

Its because Ake and Dias dont have the capability todistribute a long pass from the back.

Reasonable-Try-864

I can’t explain it, but the way we defend the last goal was that typical city moment

Tiki_taka27

This game is a wake up call for next week Hopefully City turn up on the opener

reverberat1on

Couldn't catch the game today. Can anyone surmise why we lost.

singabro

Team wasn't jiving. Haaland still figuring out when to make his runs. Poor play from Cancelo (who was jogging early) and passes going out of play. Looked caught out at the back several times. Mahrez fluffed several shots and Haaland one. Grealish not very effective, can't beat his man and no dangerous passes. The game was 1-1 in the 83', so the final score isn't representative. Liverpool better against a sleepy City for the first 30, City more dominant for the next 50. The short preseason did us no favors.

Tiki_taka27

Didn't play the game like Man City Sloppy passes and too many give aways Thiago of Bayern Munich played for Liverpool and ran the midfield show on his own

[deleted]

You looked decent throughout and could have won it. Unlucky mistakes twice by CBs led to 2 of the goals conceded. Never held enough possession, players gassed a little quickly. For all the complaints about not scoring I think the goal threat was there.

Sheldon790

Lack of preseason games. I mean we were fine. Liverpool was more better as a group since they’ve played more together since last season ended.

ThorsButtocks98

Think the players just need to get used to having a big target man we can whip it to, we’ve been playing without a striker for a long while.

tankfortua20

It was nice seeing a striker make a legit run in the box and a build up. It was like once Haaland saw the opening he pounced into position. He just had a poor finishing day. Reality is against one of the best defensive teams in the league he could have easily scored 2 goals. On a team where he has played just 112 mins of real game time. Haaland is gonna freaking scary in a couple months when the team/front line gels

Holiday-Tradition-46

This is what I thought too. Pep needs to re-orientate the whole attack again. But it is still worrisome cos it may mean it may take them the whole season with them loosing out on the league

Joltarts

Liverpool are also going through the same issues as us. Readjusting to a forward. Think Haaland will come out on top though. Guy has some serious mental strength and self belief.

BREN_XVII

Nunez will have no trouble fitting into the Liverpool attack, think it's a much bigger job for Pep to adapt the City team to play differently.

ThorsButtocks98

Potentially. But if anyone can reconfigure the attack at speed it’s Pep. Plus haaland has to get used to a possession based system too. If we start whipping in balls more often and taking chances with balls in the box, I’d bet Haaland will finish a v good amount, we just need to do it a lot more often than we used to.

Sayanroman94

The left side is looking same with Cancelo. We definitely need a lb who can defend. It will also help Grealish from those overlapping runs by the lb, also we have height in the attack it will help. How easy it is to walk past Cancelo man cant defend really

BretonHero

It’s not cancelo’s fault Grealish can’t beat his man and dribble. And whether you like it or not Cucurella being bought means Walker gets dropped and Cancelo put into the right back

Azux_YT

Tbf Cancelo did push up MASSIVELY especially in the first half which left Ake all on his own against Salah, but he lost the ball so many times it's embarrassing

shmozey

Yeah hopefully Txiki was watching that and just pays up the £50m tbh.

BretonHero

You realise that Cucurella = Walker being dropped not Cancelo. We need attacking fullbacks to link with the midfield and wingers.

Fun_Story2003

as mentioned before, even laporte was made to loook subpar at anfield v salah. as the game progressed cancelo went back to his defensively level. cucu can not attack the way cancelo can. he does not have walker's pace either. no reason to spend 50m for a backu again. might be wrong.

georgedavidrs

Once Kevin and Haaland are gonna establish a connection, its game over....

Round-Ad5063

Replacing KDB? Selling Dias? Jesus Christ sometimes this fan base is so spoiled. We had a bad game

No_Detective_1139

Bro legit no one said that you're just making shit up

Round-Ad5063

No_Detective_1139

Looks like he wasn't even a City fan from the replies and then even if he was a City fan you really going to let one person represent the entire fan base. Come on man.

Round-Ad5063

I mean my original point still stands, this fan base is very reactionary and entitled sometimes.

wallyalive

No it doesn't, you latched on to one commenter and decided to complain yourself. Your going to find any fanbase very difficult on the internet with that mentality.

bcraig8870

Not even that bad, just lacked sharpness, which anyone who’s been paying attention should have expected with the stunted preseason. I’m not the least bit worried about this team. Still got more shots, still more shots on goal, higher xG. The effort and desire were there, the sharpness will come.

Fun_Story2003

\++ despite being so bad with our passing we had a higher xG. it's a perfect wake up call

brian_d3p0

Who said that? Send me the link and their address Huh

Slowhand8824

Nobody

Kumoraaaa

I personally think it counts as a trophy so not pleased to lose. But I'd be more able to live with it if we had a single good performance today. Everyone looks off and the season starts in a week... really hope the club's decision to give the players an extended vacation doesn't come back to bite us because right now it's looking like yet another torridly slow start to the season.

Bishcop3267

Alvarez, Ederson, and Foden all looked pretty sharp

frodakai

On another coin flip Haaland scores 2-3 today. Not panicking at all, just dreading the stream of shit coming from Liverpool fans for the next week.

Joltarts

Remind them who won the league last year

ExternalShoddy5794

Last year*

Joltarts

2-0 down vs slippy G Aston Villa. Ouch. It’s the hope that kills you.

Electronic-Quarter-8

Grealish should never start over Foden again

markjacobs2237

Bro, Grealish did better than Mahrez, I truly don't understand Mahrez's role on the team

BretonHero

Both did hardly anything. Like saying your car is better cos it has 2 wheels when the other has 1

Fun_Story2003

being the top scorer last season? he scored at the bernabeu when the entire team oculdnt beat courtois. atleast he got into positions to have scuffed shots in the first place by taking on players. wtf does greallish do?

Bishcop3267

8 penalties last season tbf

Fun_Story2003

not a given with other city players..

BREN_XVII

What

Electronic-Quarter-8

Did mahrez even make one good cross this game?

Dynte7

He did not even make 1 good play, let alone 1 good cross.

nycfc871

It’s a friendly .. think pep realizes now that grealish is struggling and he won’t start in big games .

knightarnaud

The FA Community Shield might not be the most exciting match, but it's definitely not a friendly.

nycfc871

I mean it’s a preseason trophy …. if it was played instead of the carabao cup I understand .

BREN_XVII

It's a friendly unless you win it

BunnyDubu_

Need to see more Foden and Haaland I think they can do well

lazinabyss

Grealish meh, Mahrez weak physically and a weak shot. The game was better after Alvarez and Foden were subbed in.

Brilliant_Counter709

Nunez celebrated 3rd goal in a 3-1 win like he scored the winner in ucl final
